SAF RESPONDS TO STATE’S APPEAL IN MN BAN ON YOUNG ADULT CARRY

BELLEVUE, WA – The Second Amendment Foundation and its partners in a federal lawsuit challenging Minnesota’s ban on firearms carry by young adults has filed a response brief to the state’s appeal of SAF’s court victory. The case is known as Worth v. Harrington.

SAF is joined in the case by the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus, Firearms Policy Coalition and three young adults, Austin Dye, Axel Anderson and Kristin Worth, for whom the case is named. They are represented by attorneys Blair W. Nelson of Bemidji, Minn., and David H. Thompson, Peter A. Patterson and William V. Bergstrom at Cooper & Kirk in Washington, D.C.

The case was originally filed in June 2021 and is now before the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. At issue is whether Minnesota’s ban on firearms carriage by young adults in the 18-to-20-year-old age group violates the Second Amendment. Earlier this year, U. S. District Judge Kathleen Menendez ruled the Minnesota law preventing young adults from obtaining carry permits is unconstitutional.

“The state is stubbornly clinging to the unconstitutional law, and our response is quite clear,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “We expect to win again at the Appeals Court level.”

“Judge Menendez made the right call in this case almost five months ago,” concurred SAF Executive Director Adam Kraut. “We remind the court that the Second Amendment refers to a right ‘of the people’ without mentioning age, and certainly young adults fall within the definition of ‘the people’ ever since they’ve been allowed to vote, and generations before that when they were considered part of the militia, and have been accepted into the military.”

Hunting the Winged Lightning Bolt

Field to Fork: A Hunter’s Essential Tools for the Yearly Dove Opener

As the sun began sinking into the western horizon, I stationed myself on the edge of a field of wild sunflowers, surrounded by lanky mesquites and stately old live oak trees. It was the long-awaited dove opener, and I was almost giddy with anticipation! The yearly dove opener is akin to something like religion for many, and I’m honestly no exception!

The heat was finally starting to melt from the atmosphere, and the occasional winged missile was already loping across parts of the sunflower fields, showing promise of what the evening flight was likely to display. I stood along a fence row, tucked in close to help break my silhouette while wearing my lightweight King’s Camo short-sleeved safari shirt. Doves are so acrobatic when they see you, so anything to help break up your outline is welcomed when chasing these feathery lightning bolts!

Using a Weatherby 18i Deluxe to bag opening day doves!

The evening hunt began developing nicely, and waves of birds began flowing over and past my position. I’d love to lie and say I hit more birds than I missed, but if you have ever spent time in the dove fields, you know what an accomplishment that can be! The laughs rolled down the line of hunters as we each witnessed each other’s achievements, but more often, the hilarious misses. Still, as the shadows lengthened into the evening, I cobbled together my opening day limit of 15 birds.

Whenever I head out for the annual dove opener each year, I bring along a few tools. It makes my time in the great outdoors all that more rewarding!

RCBS® Rumble Returns for Second Year

Precision Rifle Match Draws Elite Shooters from Across U.S. RCBS Pros Robert Brantley Takes Top Tactical, Melissa Gilliland Takes Top Lady

RCBS®, the leading manufacturer of ammunition reloading equipment for rifles and pistols, congratulates RCBS pro shooters and the entire RCBS team for another successful “RCBS Rumble” — one of the most popular and fastest-selling Precision Rifle Series matches of the season.

A major high point for the RCBS brand as it celebrates its 80th anniversary, this year’s RCBS Rumble was held August 11-12 near Pleasant Hill, Missouri. With additional support from partners including Bushnell®, Hoppe’s®, Hodgdon®, GA Precision and Manner’s Composite Stocks, the Rumble drew 92 elite PRS shooters from across the country and sold out of registration spots in under an hour.

“This year’s RCBS Rumble was by all accounts a tremendous success,” said Laurie Kokoruda, senior product manager and match director. “We knew from the beginning that we wanted to make the course of fire even more challenging than the previous year, so we added more movement and new obstacles for competitors to face. Of course, the weather itself added its own degree of difficulty. Despite the new challenges, we heard nothing but positive feedback from shooters throughout the match.”

The match had a go-big-or-go-home feel, presenting plenty of fresh challenges for competitors to navigate. Hot and humid weather on day one gave way to hard rains and fierce winds that partly obscured targets on day two. Over the course of two days, shooters worked their way through 18 unique stages, including a new shooting tower. In addition to the main competition, the match included side stages sponsored by Manners Composite Stocks and Bushnell.

GET MORE DISTANCE WITH EASTON 4MM AXIS LONG RANGE

Salt Lake City, Utah – When 5MM AXIS came on the scene it revolutionized hunting arrows. The small shaft innovation offered better accuracy and mitigated friction to retain velocity and add penetration.  Now the concept has gone forward to the next level with the introduction of the new 4MM AXIS Long Range.

The Long Rang AXIS will offer bowhunters even more of what they want in a micro diameter arrow.  4mm AXIS uses a lighter weight carbon for more speed to the target in order to drive broadheads deeper upon impact. “Additionally, it adds penetration as the shaft passes through with less friction behind the broadhead channel” said Gary Cornum, Easton Director of Marketing. “Millions of successful hunts testify to the awesome effectiveness of a simple concept that equates to more downed big game—it’s like getting magnum ammunition made for a bow.”

Made in Easton’s Utah factory, the AXIS Long Range is engineered with specialized carbon-fiber to increase arrow velocity.  Easton 4mm nocks and front-of-center boosting 8-32 half-outs are included to help tighten arrow grouping.  4MM AXIS Long Range is available in four sizes, 250, 300, 340, and 400 in both standard straightness and in the ultra-precise ±.001 Match Grade.

How to Do a Vlog For Your Hunting Trip? 7 Easy Tips To Follow

Are you an avid hunter who wants to share your thrilling hunting adventures with the world? One exciting way to do so is by creating a vlog of your hunting trip! Vlogging, or video blogging, allows you to capture the essence of your hunting experience and share it with a wide audience. Whether you’re a seasoned vlogger or just starting, this guide will provide you with seven easy tips to help you create an engaging and captivating vlog of your hunting trip.

Choose Your Camera Equipment Wisely

Choose the right camera equipment to capture the best footage. Consider a camera with good low-light performance and image stabilization. Get extra batteries, memory cards, and storage devices. You could also consider using action cameras like GoPro or DJI Osmo Action for dynamic shots. Make sure to protect your gear from the elements by using a durable and waterproof camera bag.

Plan Your Hunting Vlog Content

Before you start filming, plan your content. Decide your approach – will it be a vlog-style with you contributing commentary throughout, or just one long shot as you capture the moments? Determine the outline and storyline in advance, make a script with an AI script generator, and be clear about what message you are conveying to your audience. Also, consider the best times to capture the best footage. It’s better to plan to ensure you don’t miss out on the best shots.

Tell a Story with Your Footage

While capturing video during your hunting trip, focus on storytelling. Rather than being a documentary highlighting events, focus on telling a story. Explain what’s happening on screen, how you feel, what you’re thinking, or how it took place. A good way to keep the viewers hooked is to build tension, anticipation, or climax until the big moment in your vlog.

Use B-roll Footage to Create Interest

B-roll footage is extra footage that is not the primary focus of the video; it provides visual stimuli or context for storytelling and can make your vlog more interesting. Capture footage of the beautiful scenery, sunrises, sunsets, hunting equipment and gear, and even the wildlife around you.

Hunters around the world rely on Ravin to deliver the world’s most accurate and technologically advanced crossbows. Now, the world’s most reliable crossbow shooting experience is made even better with the release of the Ravin integrated Xero X1i Crossbow Scope.

This new addition to the Ravin product line incorporates the high-performance specifications of Ravin models into the optic’s electronic operating system, delivering specific aimpoints based on range and crossbow setup. In addition to eliminating the need to make aimpoint estimations, the scope also lightens the hunting pack and reduces unnecessary movements in the stand by removing the need for a rangefinder.

With 3.5x magnification and digital overlays to improve sighting precision, the Ravin integrated Xero X1i Crossbow Scope can range game targets up to 125 yards away. Ravin shooters will also experience a customized Ravin internal look and feel with the optic’s Ravin-branded splash screen, new ranging screen and a customized aiming reticle on the digital overlay.

Sighting in the scope is quick and easy with pre-loaded Ravin Crossbow specifications. After mounting the optic, users select their Ravin Crossbow model on the scope’s digital screen. The user then sights in at 20 yards, and Garmin Xero X1i’s advanced processor automatically adjusts its ballistic algorithm for the Ravin model chosen, based on that particular crossbow’s technical specifications. The optic then provides digital pins, allowing it to be set up in as little as 10 minutes.

“Hunters know what to expect when they trust their hunts to a Ravin: the world’s best crossbow shooting experience that’s fast, accurate and reliable season after season,” said Russ Rowan, Chief Brand Officer at Ravin Crossbows. “By partnering with Garmin, a true innovator in hunting optics, we’ve improved the Ravin shooting experience. Previously, this kind of technology has only been available to high-end rifle shooters.
