Halo Waterfowl owners Chase and Greg Camp grew up in Georgia, at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Hunting was at the heart of their upbringing. When they were invited on their first duck hunt, everything changed.

Brad Allen began duck hunting with his father at age six. He grew up in the small community of Beedeville, AR where duck hunting is a way of life and the Cache river is in your back yard. Something about this morning called for a borrowed cigarette and some leftover two-day old sushi. It’s what we do when we’re out there riding. Getting dirty and loving every minute of it. Pyro Putty came from our love of the outdoors; hunting, fishing, hiking and countless days camping with my family and friends.

About 5 years ago, Pyro Putty founder Will Bartlett was working on a design for a compact fuel efficient stove called a rocket stove for camping in cold weather. It is a compact wood burning stove that burns at a high temp and doesn't put off  smoke or soot as it burns. Most rocket stoves need you to start the fire clear in the back of the burn chamber to start it drafting properly.

After searching online and finding that most people were using a propane torch to light the stoves, the realization that defeats the purpose of having a small portable stove if there was a need to carry a torch to light it. The decision to make a fire starter that would light any stove that was also non toxic, moldable, easy to light fire starter that is waterproof and lightweight.

Most fire starters on the market were either too toxic to touch or hard to light, or were bulky and too heavy to pack. The other problem presented was the fact that most of the the fire starters on the market required you light them first, build your fire and hope it burned long enough to start the bigger pieces of wood on fire.

We wanted to make sure that what we created was moldable and sticky, with a long burn time. With the diverse landscapes we needed to make sure that this particular fire starter was water resistance as well as wind resistance to help ease the time it would take to light it and start a fire.

After some trial and error, we finally found the recipe that met all of these needs. After a trial run with friends and family, we decided to open up this amazing product to everyone around us.

With further experimenting we were able to make it burn like a candle with a clean burning flame.

Why choose us?

There are many great outfitters and areas to hunt in BC which makes it difficult to choose one. We feel our operation is among the best for several reasons. It is a very large (2850 square miles), diverse habitat, encompassing the foothills/lowlands of the Omineca mountains in the South as well as a beautiful 30 mile long mountain range to the North.

There is low hunting pressure with high game density and most of the area has not been hunted by the previous outfitter allowing the possibility of being the first hunter into some of this remote country. We customize each hunt based on your preferences and capability. We often see over 10 bears per day in the spring and an average of 3-4 moose per week per hunter during the rut. Our wolverine range has some great goat hunting within a provincial park with 100% success rate over the past 10 years with no other hunters ever seen in that area.

Our work ethic, professionalism, friendly nature, and logistics is second to none. Prior to guiding and outfitting full-time, Ray also worked as a manager in big industry for several years. One thing to consider when booking a hunt is that some guide/outfitters manage the hunts but are not the owners of the business. Ray and Dan strongly feel that being both the owners and operators allows them to be more vested in the company and its success than simply being an employee. It should be a consideration when booking your next hunt.

Various wildlife species are injured or orphaned every day particularly because of our impact within their environment. Great Basin Wildlife Rescue offers safe rehabilitation and release of wildlife back to their natural habitat. To further the understanding of Utah's wildlife species the organization also provides educational outreach activities.

We offer custom overnight fish and float trips for those who want to experience Alaska’s river fishing at it’s best. Our day trips cover several miles of our many local streams. Our guides are experienced in both Fly & Conventional fishing, so let us know your preference and we will take care of you. Alaska Fly Fishing lessons are available for the beginner or novice fly fisher.

STEPHAN LAKE LODGE IS A REMOTE WILDERNESS LODGE

Stephan Lake Lodge is located 50 air miles Northeast of the small town of Talkeetna and 140 air miles from Anchorage in the spectacular Talkeetna Mountains. Our lodge has been in operation since the late 1960’s and is one of the finest wilderness lodges in Alaska. We offer a casual atmosphere and comfortable accommodations. The lodge overlooks Stephan Lake and the jagged peaks of the Talkeetna Mountain range. Our large lounge has a natural stone fireplace and is a wonderful place to relax and share stories of the day’s adventure.
