Premium and comprehensive Onchor series expands to 30 distinct models to support any salmon and steelhead presentation or technique
PARK FALLS, WIS. (September 1, 2023) – From Alaska and the Pacific Northwest to the Great Lakes, the appeal of hooking and landing a powerful salmon or steelhead is only exceeded by the number of diverse ways these large, hard-fighting anadromous species are targeted by anglers. Each species is unique, exhibiting its own patterns and preferences with respect to habitat, forage, feeding, and spawning, and each changes and takes on additional distinct habits once it moves from the ocean or Great Lake into its natal river or stream.
For these reasons, salmon and steelhead anglers require an equally diverse offering of rods and tackle optimized not only for different trolling techniques, but for other specialized presentations like drifting; hovering; jigging; casting plugs, spinners, and spoons; back trolling; and float fishing, to name a few.
Driven by its mission to provide all anglers with the upper hand, St. Croix Rod introduced the Onchor Series of salmon and steelhead trolling rods last year. Designed and handcrafted to help anglers master the full gamut of torturous trolling techniques used to target heavy, hard-pulling salmon and steelhead, St. Croix Onchor Series Salmon and Steelhead trolling rods were conceived in the Pacific Northwest for the benefit of salmon trollers everywhere. Four Onchor trolling models were released featuring proven St. Croix technologies like IPC (Integrated Poly Curve), FRS (Fortified Resin System), and ART (Advanced Reinforcing Technology), combined with all-new carbon-fiber grips and hybrid SCIII carbon fiber and linear S-Glass blank designs. These exceptionally strong and durable trolling-model rods are built on requisite moderate, parabolic actions that remain surprisingly light in the hand.
Onchor Expands From Four to 30 Models for 2024
New for 2024, Onchor expands from four trolling models to encompass a total of 30 models, including six trolling models, two center pin models, 14 spinning models, and eight casting models, each distinctly optimized to give anglers the edge in any presentation.
The two new trolling models – a 9’ medium power, moderate action (ONCC90MM2) and a 10’6” extra-heavy power, moderate action (ONCC106XHM2) – feature the same SCIII carbon / Linear S-Glass hybrid blank technology found on last year’s trolling models, offering a premium combination of light-in-the-hand feel, extreme durability, and soft and forgiving parabolic action. All other rods in the expansive Onchor Series feature the proven performance of crisp, light, strong, and sensitive SCIII carbon construction.
Onchor’s components and handle designs continue the theme of lightweight performance with uncompromising durability. Rigid, double-foot stainless-steel guides with hardwearing aluminum oxide rings support trouble-free line management with diverse lines, from monofilament and braid to lead-core.
