Holosun Delivers a Direct Mount Solar Charging Sight for SIG Enthusiasts

Modular firearms are nothing new. They’ve been around for well over 100 years. Despite this, SIG successfully developed one of the most modular pistols. So successful that the US Armed Forced uses a variant of these modular pistols as the M17/18. The civilian model of the M17/18 is the SIG P320, a pistol that can be customized for concealed carry, competition, or just plinking at the range. Users can attach a pistol optic with their milled slides for some of the best and most consistent loadouts.

The SCS-320 (Solar Charging Sight) is designed for P320 optics-ready handguns and other DPP footprints. It takes the already well-designed P320 and augments it for optimal performance. The new optic attaches directly to the slide without needing an adapter plate. For perfect reticle illumination, the unit uses multidirectional light sensors in complement with a solar charging system to adjust brightness automatically. The SCS can operate indefinitely using an internal, rechargeable 20,000-hour battery, meaning you will never need to change batteries again. While brightness is automatically calibrated, an intensity override function locks the optic into a high-brightness mode for 30 minutes.

Three reticle options are available for the SCS320; MRS 32 MOA circle with 2 MOA dot, standalone 2 MOA dot, or standalone 32 MOA circle. Adjustments are 1 MOA per click with a full +/- 30 MOA travel range.

The aspheric glass lens provides zero distortion and is protected in the 7075 T6 aluminum housing and nitrogen purged for the best results. To be as watertight as possible, the SCS320 is IPX8 certified. 0.90×0.63 inch window provides a large area of view with superior optics availability.

For those shooters who want to incorporate one of the best and newest long-life optics for their P320 pistol, the SCS320 is made to fit the bill. There are fewer pieces to keep track of, there is no need for additional maintenance tools, and no longer will a user need to keep spare batteries on hand. Delta Waterfowl Celebrates a ‘Big Win’ for Hunting Access

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reinstates waterfowl hunting at a popular National Wildlife Refuge

BISMARCK, NORTH DAKOTA — Gather your gear and get the decoys ready: Waterfowl hunting at Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge is back on this season.

Today, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced a reversal of its June 6 decision to close waterfowl hunting for the 2023-2024 season at the 10,795-acre refuge near Sumner, Missouri. Instead of complete closure of the refuge to waterfowling this fall, about 85% of the units where duck and goose hunting occurred in previous seasons will be open to hunters. Swan Lake is estimated to host 1,500 hunter days each season.

“We always wanted to have waterfowl hunting this season at Swan Lake if at all possible,” said Jason Wilson, project leader for the Big Muddy National Wildlife Refuge Complex, which includes Swan Lake NWR. “It’s a big win for everybody, and we’re glad to be able to make it happen.”

Three of the refuges 20 units—S2, S4, and T1—will remain closed this season for rehabilitation work, including tree and brush removal. In addition, the refuge will no longer backfill units for no-show hunters, and the check-in/check-out, as well as the hunt draws, will be done online.

Gear up for Dove Season with NOMAD

America’s most hunted game bird, the dove, makes its way southward as the long hot summer days begin to wane. Dove season celebrates the promise of autumn and fall’s bounty. For many hunters, dove season brings the fellowship of shared stubble fields, partners sitting on buckets overlooking cow ponds, and the season’s first dog work.

While finding a shady spot on a cut field’s edge or tucking away behind sunflower stalks may seem like one of the simplest forms of hunting, dove season brings a few challenges: proper hunting clothing can help. Beating the heat with quick-drying material and choosing garments that move and flex helps hunters stay comfortable in the field and be more successful.

Exclusive to NOMAD, Mossy Oak’s Migrate is extremely effective at keeping hunters hidden. Implementing a successful camo pattern onto comfortable, quick-drying fabrics is the ultimate goal for dove hunting this fall.

September’s warm days and sometimes sweltering humidity can put the heat to dove season. The folks at Nomad understand the importance of staying comfortable and beating the heat when it comes to warm-weather hunting; their lineup of warm-weather camo shirts will have you covered this fall and pull double duty next spring.

Late Drop Persimmons from Chestnut Hill Outdoors

There are few natural foods more attractive to deer than ripe persimmons. To take full advantage of the power of the persimmon, Chestnut Hill Outdoors selected several American persimmon varieties, especially for their abundant fruit production, to create their ‘Deer Candy’ collection. Among them are several “Late Drop” Deer Magnet varieties that fall after most native and some cultivated varieties, further widening the window of attractiveness your property offers to wildlife.

Deer Candy persimmons are all grafted female trees, which means they are vigorous and proliferate, bearing 1.25 – 1.5″ diameter fruit in just 2-3 years, depending on the care they receive and the climate to which they’re exposed. Chestnut Hill Outdoors selected grafted American persimmon varieties that are cold-hardy so they can be grown over a much wider geographic area – planting zones 5-9. The fruit drops over several months to further expand your window of attractiveness and opportunity.

You can further widen the window of attractiveness while improving pollination and production by planting Early Drop grafted American female persimmons along with your Late Drop Deer Magnet varieties.

Chestnut Hill Outdoors is more than just a nursery. They also provide sound advice and instruction on proper planting and care to ensure you receive the maximum benefit from their products. And they ensure the plants you receive are suited to your regional climate. For more on the varieties listed above and all Chestnut Hill Outdoors products and how to care for them, visit ChestnutHillOutdoors.com, or call (855) 386-7826.

Chestnut Hill is the best place for you to purchase your food plot and deer attractant plants because they offer a large selection, their plants are specifically bred to attract deer, and they offer customers different-sized plants at different levels of growth. To ensure you receive the maximum benefit from their products, they also provide sound advice and instruction on proper planting and care. The Advantages of a Good CultiPacker

Building food plots requires considerable time, money, and effort. However, land managers need to take the proper steps to maximize that investment; otherwise, it might be squandered. Site conditions, seed selection, and the appropriate application of soil nutrients are all important, but good germination rates will only be realized with optimal seed-to-soil contact. Firminator’s built-in Cultipacker offers several advantages to ensure better germination rates and a better return on investment.

Different soil conditions and seed selections call for various treatments. With simple top link length adjustments, the Firminator’s main pitch can be changed so the implement leans more or less heavily onto its disk assembly for deeper or shallower cuts. This also allows the cultipacker to roll on the soil with additional frame weight being transferred to it so it can pass over the field to firm up the seedbed before planting small seeds. A mid-range setting gives varying degrees of disk depth, simultaneously allowing the built-in cultipacker to maintain good ground contact and break apart clods while leveling and firming the soil.

Unlike conventional, single-application implements, the all-in-one configuration of the Firminator allows for firming the soil during the seeding pass so seed is dropped directly in front of the packer wheel, where it is pressed into the soil surface for superior time- and money-saving seed-to-soil contact.

The standard Firminator G3 and integrated cultipacker are adequate for most conditions. However, Ranew’s Outdoor Equipment also offers a Pro-Grade Cultipacker Upgrade. Its larger, 16-inch wheels will easily roll over looser sandy or fine silty soils that tend to flow up and over a smaller wheel. The larger wheels also add weight and surface area to allow the accurate seeding system to function properly in all soil types.

They also make a Heavy Duty Stand-Alone Cultipacker in a standard 6-foot model featuring 9″ heavy-duty cast-iron cultipacker wheels, high-speed greaseable bearings, and category 1 and 2 hitch pins; and a professional model with upgraded 16-inch cast-iron cultipacker wheels to create the best seed to soil contact possible. Both models are built with the same heavy 3-inch square tubing as the Firminators frames and come in 6, 8, and 10-foot widths.

Wood Earns Four Overall Wins at National Rifle Games Matches

By Ashley Dugan, CMP Staff Writer

CAMP PERRY, Ohio – At only his second attempt, Sgt. Jonathan Wood, 38, ARNG, of Kennar, LA, cleaned up at the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) 2023 National Rifle Games – racking up four individual titles, including within two culminating events.

During the competition series, part of the annual National Matches at Camp Perry, Wood claimed the Three-Gun and Four-Gun Aggregates for his combined outstanding performances in the Garand, Springfield, Vintage and Modern Military events. Admittedly, Wood hadn’t prepared much before arriving at Camp Perry in 2023, with only two competitions beforehand and little else.

“I actually don’t practice that much,” he said, incredibly. “I just don’t have the time. And I don’t like putting on a coat in Louisiana – it’s 100 degrees outside!”

Instead, his preparation is simple.

All-New St. Croix Onchor Salmon & Steelhead Rods Available Now

Premium and comprehensive Onchor series expands to 30 distinct models to support any salmon and steelhead presentation or technique

PARK FALLS, WIS. (September 1, 2023) – From Alaska and the Pacific Northwest to the Great Lakes, the appeal of hooking and landing a powerful salmon or steelhead is only exceeded by the number of diverse ways these large, hard-fighting anadromous species are targeted by anglers. Each species is unique, exhibiting its own patterns and preferences with respect to habitat, forage, feeding, and spawning, and each changes and takes on additional distinct habits once it moves from the ocean or Great Lake into its natal river or stream.

For these reasons, salmon and steelhead anglers require an equally diverse offering of rods and tackle optimized not only for different trolling techniques, but for other specialized presentations like drifting; hovering; jigging; casting plugs, spinners, and spoons; back trolling; and float fishing, to name a few.

Driven by its mission to provide all anglers with the upper hand, St. Croix Rod introduced the Onchor Series of salmon and steelhead trolling rods last year. Designed and handcrafted to help anglers master the full gamut of torturous trolling techniques used to target heavy, hard-pulling salmon and steelhead, St. Croix Onchor Series Salmon and Steelhead trolling rods were conceived in the Pacific Northwest for the benefit of salmon trollers everywhere. Four Onchor trolling models were released featuring proven St. Croix technologies like IPC (Integrated Poly Curve), FRS (Fortified Resin System), and ART (Advanced Reinforcing Technology), combined with all-new carbon-fiber grips and hybrid SCIII carbon fiber and linear S-Glass blank designs. These exceptionally strong and durable trolling-model rods are built on requisite moderate, parabolic actions that remain surprisingly light in the hand.

Onchor Expands From Four to 30 Models for 2024

New for 2024, Onchor expands from four trolling models to encompass a total of 30 models, including six trolling models, two center pin models, 14 spinning models, and eight casting models, each distinctly optimized to give anglers the edge in any presentation.

The two new trolling models – a 9’ medium power, moderate action (ONCC90MM2) and a 10’6” extra-heavy power, moderate action (ONCC106XHM2) – feature the same SCIII carbon / Linear S-Glass hybrid blank technology found on last year’s trolling models, offering a premium combination of light-in-the-hand feel, extreme durability, and soft and forgiving parabolic action. All other rods in the expansive Onchor Series feature the proven performance of crisp, light, strong, and sensitive SCIII carbon construction.

Onchor’s components and handle designs continue the theme of lightweight performance with uncompromising durability. Rigid, double-foot stainless-steel guides with hardwearing aluminum oxide rings support trouble-free line management with diverse lines, from monofilament and braid to lead-core.

Fort Worth, TX (August 29, 2023) – TRUE Knives has become well-established as a reputable source of quality knives at a highly competitive price. With many new outdoor offerings over the past few years, it’s easy to overlook some of the most used knives. Not with TRUE! With recent releases of hunting and tactical knives, TRUE now brings to market a line of SYK Fillet Knives. Historically fillet knives have often featured earth tones or muted colors. TRUE takes a different path with the SYK line hoping to encapsulate a new era of fishing and outdoor enthusiasts who aren’t shy about their gear but are proud of what they carry and happy to show it off. This new vibrant design is meant to complement current gear on the market, add an additional element of safety and awareness while simultaneously enhancing an angler’s lifestyle.

SYK, is synonymous with ‘cool’ or ‘excellent’ and lends itself well as an adjective in the fishing world. The SYK series of fillet knives come in 7-inch and 9-inch offerings. Both are a medium flex and tapered for the best cut geometry. These are not ‘old school’ designs. Instead, they make a bold statement. While bright, coming in green and blue, these fillet knives match the aesthetic of today’s angler lifestyle. Inspired by the Yellowfin Tuna, these knives are a distinct set suitable for fresh and saltwater use.

High visibility colors make it hard to overlook or miss the razor edge provided by the SYK lineup. The blades are made from quality 9Cr18MoV high-carbon steel for excellent edge retention, corrosion resistance, and durability. The finish is a bright green Cerakote® that assists with visibility and overall safety.

The handle is built with a TraxGripTM texture and provides cushion, ergonomics, and ample traction in wet environments. Molded into the handle is a finger guard to aid in proper handling and control while offering a firm grip. With two sizes, most fish can be prepped with ease. The 7-inch is perfect for small to medium fish while the 9-inch knife can handle medium-sized fish and larger.

Pulling everything together is a unique sheath made to allow for drainage and visibility. The sheath is made from 100% recycled ocean-bound plastics. TRUE Knives is dedicated to keeping the environmental waterways clean for future generations to enjoy and participate in fishing activities.
