EDGEFIELD, S.C. —On Aug. 9, the Utah Senate honored the National Wild Turkey Federation’s 50th Anniversary with a citation presented at the Utah State Capitol.

In attendance were Lynn Worwood, NWTF Utah State Chapter president; Rick Brittain, NWTF regional director; Chuck Carpenter, NWTF district biologist; and four members of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, including Director Jay Shirley. 

The citation, in part, reads:

“WHEREAS, since 1985, the National Wild Turkey Federation has invested more than half a billion dollars to conserve or enhance more than 22 million acres of critical wildlife habitat, forests and grasslands across public and private lands. The organization is the largest and longest-serving nongovernmental stewardship partner of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service, conserving habitat on National Forest System Lands for more than 40 years and engaging in the development and implementation of the USDA Wildfire Crisis Strategy; 

WHEREAS, on the 50th Anniversary of the National Wild Turkey Federation, we salute the organization, its chapters, and members from across the United States for their efforts to further scientific, state-led wildlife management and the conservation of America’s wild turkey and its habitat;

The success came out of the Summer League 10 target 2000-point 200X Maximum Match, located at Tri County Gun Club (TCGC). It was there that Hubbard took first overall in a fierce battle for the top spot.

This particular 600 yard Summer League Match put shooters to the test by challenging them to a variety of long range shots – with competitors facing 10 targets overall. Hubbard seized first place for Team Savage at TCGC by finishing with a score of 1991- 119X for all 10 league targets.

The National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers (NASGW), is adding three additional distributor data feeds to their distribution sales and inventory analytics platform, SCOPE DLX. Updates to the platform, which already tracked more than 65 percent of all new and imported firearms, will go live, August 16, 2023. 

“The industry’s most accurate and expansive data set keeps getting better,” said NASGW President, Kenyon Gleason. “This update will add more distributor data and inventory to our DLX platform as well as continue to enhance our robust data tagging matching nearly 99% of the available firearms UPCs.”

The new distributors that are now contributing data include new members Primary Arms and 2nd Amendment Wholesale as well as longtime member MGE Wholesale, which was previously limited in their ability to share data. Manufacturers will also be able to automate reports for their products from all 21 distributors. 

“We continue to look for ways to expand and improve SCOPE for the benefit of our subscribers and the shooting sports industry,” said Tom Hopper, NASGW’s Senior Data Analyst.  “We have seen incredible adoption of our members utilizing the data to understand the market and strategize ways to capitalize on future opportunities. In addition to increased distributor data, the August 16 update will include an update of UPC tagging, resulting in the most current and accurate categorization of products. This round of data attribute enhancements has been an ongoing effort to catalog and map existing UPCs that were missing standardized attributes that most products across the industry include. These attributes help with data segmentation, reporting, and product comparisons. Accurate attribute tagging is one of the key features that sets SCOPE apart from other industry data platforms. Accuracy of the data is crucial to creating quality reports that users and the industry can rely on. When the products are not cataloged consistently it makes it difficult, if not impossible to collect accurate data. This attribute update is a big step forward in SCOPE’s progressive development.

BELLEVUE, WA – The 38th annual Gun Rights Policy Conference, co-hosted by the Second Amendment Foundation and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, will be held Sept. 22-24 in Phoenix, Arizona.

The theme of this year’s event, which will be held at the Marriott Phoenix Airport Hotel is “Road to Liberty!” Registration is available online at the SAF website. For those unable to attend, the conference will be available on multiple virtual platforms including YouTube and Facebook.

This year’s conference will be attended by more than 600 gun rights advocates and activists, and will feature a veritable “Who’s Who” of leaders in the Second Amendment movement. More than 80 speakers will offer presentations on a variety of subjects including legislation, the upcoming campaigns for the 2024 elections, firearms litigation and more. 

Already scheduled are such notables as Alan Gottlieb, Adam Kraut, Massad Ayoob, Mark Smith, AWR Hawkins, John Fund, Tom Gresham, Mark Walters, Steven Gutowski and representatives and staff from SAF, CCRKBA, FPC, NRA and GOA as well as leaders of state organizations. Winchester Ammunition announces its Top Shot Sub-Junior Program, which awards the top sporting clays shooters in the country as part of the National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA) Championship Tour. 

The Top Shot Sub-Junior program will recognize the top 4 competitors and each will receive 25 cases of Winchester AA® target shotshells, as well as a gear package. The year-long points race winners will be announced at the conclusion of the National Championship in San Antonio, Texas, on October 29, 2023.

Columbia, MO – MidwayUSA Foundation currently funds approximately 2,800 youth shooting teams at the high school and collegiate level. This results in thousands of youth athletes competing in shooting sports across the nation because funding is available.  One of those athletes can be found in the hills of West Virginia breaking clays on a trap field that exists because of her determination and industry leaders believing in her goals. 

Makayla Scott wasn’t always so determined.  In and out of foster care at a young age, she struggled to fit in. That changed when she found her forever family in The Scotts and at the same time, found her passion for pulling the trigger.  Makayla was twelve years old when she joined the local 4-H shotgun team and recalls that life-changing moment.  “There was a wonderful team of coaches that got me behind that shotgun.  As soon as I took that first shot, the first thing I hit…it was like fireworks.”  Fast forward years later and Makayla’s desire to give other youth that same experience, led to building a trap field in her own backyard.  Appropriately named ‘Field of Dreams,’ Makayla turned this dream into a reality through hard work and the collaboration of three companies.

Varusteleka’s Finnish Brutality will be organized for the sixth time at the Loppi shooting center in Finland on Aug 19 and 20, 2023. This international competition sold out in a few seconds. The idea behind Finnish Brutality is that the shooters need to be able to perform even under physical duress.

Created by Finnish military and outdoor store Varusteleka and online video program InRange TV, the Finnish Brutality shooting competition will see its sixth iteration at the Loppi shooting center in Southern Finland. This international competition gathers contestants from all around the globe. A total of 160 shooters will participate in the competition, 50 of which will shoot in the pre-match and work as Range Officers during the main match. Tickets were sold out in 10 seconds this year. 

Brutality matches are known for challenging the contestants’ marksmanship in unconventional and stressful situations, such as shooting from a trench filled with cold water, from a moving vehicle, or immediately after physically challenging tasks.

The competition is also very popular among the YouTube community. The social media stars Forgotten Weapons and Administrative Results from the US, Polenar Tactical from Slovenia, and many other influencers will take part in Finnish Brutality.

This year, the stages have been designed to be even more brutal and challenging than before. Last year, the contestants of the Recon division had to run 2 miles between each stage. This year, it has been replaced by the Breacher category, where the shooters must perform a variety of physical challenges between stages in full combat gear.

BELLEVUE, WA – The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday granted a stay sought by the Biden administration in a federal challenge of the “new rule” on frames and receivers published by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, allowing the rule to remain in effect while the case moves through the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) was allowed to intervene in the case, which is known as VanDerStok v. Garland, as a plaintiff. The high court stay is in effect through the final disposition of the appeal, including a petition for certiorari. If that petition is made and denied, the stay terminates. If certiorari is granted, the stay remains in effect pending the Supreme Court’s ruling. 

“While we are disappointed that the Government’s final rule remains in effect pending the outcome of our appeal,” said SAF Executive Director Adam Kraut, “we remain optimistic that we will ultimately prevail. We believe the district court’s rationale, striking down the final rule, was legally sound and we look forward to defending our position on appeal.”

SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb was not discouraged by the court ruling on what essentially is a procedural matter.
