SENTRY Tactical™ CEO, Mike Noell, chats with TacticalPay Radio’s Brett Grayson

From Navy SEAL to the founder of BLACKHAWK! to CEO of SENTRY Tactical, Mike Noell discusses his passion for making products that enhance human performance with TacticalPay’s host, Brett Grayson, on the TacticalPay Podcast.

Mike Noell, CEO of SENTRY Tactical, was recently featured as a guest on TacticalPay Radio with host Brett Grayson. Grayson jumped right into the podcast summarizing Noell’s background as a Navy SEAL, leading into his founding of BLACKHAWK!, a highly reputable brand that dominated the tactical gear market for over a decade, and introducing Noell’s new endeavor, SENTRY Tactical.

Grayson asked Noell to share why after a successful run with BLACKHAWK! he did not just sit on the beach and enjoy the fruits of his labor. Noell explained that he feels he was put on this earth to do what he is currently doing, which is designing, manufacturing, and marketing products that enhance human performance. The products that SENTRY Tactical produces are designed and made to enable special operation forces, police, and even sport shooters to perform their mission or job better.

SENTRY Tactical Gunnar Low Profile Operator Belts

When asked if BLACKHAWK! was a competitor to SENTRY’s product line, Noell responded that the products are different and don’t compete but acknowledged an overlap in customer crossover. He pointed out that SENTRY is focused on producing the next generation and the next level of equipment for their military, law enforcement, and special forces customers.

Noell admitted that “you are only as good as your last operation,” and has built on his former successful business model by bringing back his former executive team, operations, manufacturing, and marketing under the new SENTRY Tactical banner. “SENTRY is light years ahead of BLACKHAWK!,” Noell added, also revealing that SENTRY is working on Tier 1 level products that the company will be able to scale toward other markets from law enforcement to shooting sports, and hunting.

TrueTimber® Returns as Sponsor for Noah Gragson’s Return to JR Motorsports in 2022

TrueTimber has announced a partnership extension with Noah Gragson as he returns to JR Motorsports for the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series along with co-partners Bass Pro Shops and Black Rifle coffee. This marks the third straight season Gragson will compete in the NXS carrying the Bass Pro Shops, TrueTimber, Black Rifle paint scheme on his No. 9 car. This announcement comes following Gragson’s back-to-back wins the past two weekends in Darlington, SC and Richmond, VA, marking his third and fourth career NXS victory lane appearance.

“We are really excited to stay on board with the number nine car and to continue to support Noah and the JRM team,” said TrueTimber CEO Rusty Sellars. “Noah brings the heat week after week and is always pushing the limits to be at the front of the pack. He is extremely motivated and loves showing support not only for our brand, but for our co-partners Bass Pro Shops and Black Rifle Coffee. This group has shown its ability to succeed in the past and we can’t wait to see more of Noah running up front.”

Gragson currently sits sixth in NXS points with one race remaining in the regular season, firmly inside the playoff field. So far this season, Gragson has earned ten top-five and 16 top-10 finishes, with his best results being the last two weekend’s wins in Darlington and Richmond. Gragson also won three of the four Xfinity Dash 4 Cash payouts this season, pushing his career total to four after taking the $100,000 bonus at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2020.

“Johnny Morris believed in me enough to put Bass Pro Shops on my car to start the 2020 season, and it paid off with victory the first time out,” Gragson said. “It was special to stand in Victory Lane at Daytona with Johnny right beside me. Bass Pro Shops, Rusty Sellars at TrueTimber and Evan and Mat at Black Rifle Coffee Company have been fantastic to work with. We still have a lot to accomplish this season but I’m looking forward to battling for a series championship again in 2022.”

During his career at JRM, Gragson won at Dayton in 2020 and again that same season at Bristol Motor Speedway. The young driver has amassed 35 top-five and 62 top-10 finishes in that span and has made the playoffs in each of his three seasons with the team.

DU TV this week: Thunderbird

Watch it on the Sportsman Channel

This week Ducks Unlimited Television (DU TV) takes you to the Texas coastal prairie. There the DU TV cameras capture great hunting action and we learn more about the Texas Prairie Wetlands Project.

In this episode, co-host Ashley Horobetz hunts with Thunderbird Hunting Club’s Travis Peterson and Forrest and Hunter Steele, sons of Todd Steele, DU Magazine contributing photographer and the club manager. Also sharing the blind is DU biologist and area native Taylor Abshier.

Thunderbird headquarters is south of El Campo, Texas, in the heart of the central flyway’s wintering grounds. Most of the land here is privately held, so DU has worked with landowners for decades, restoring and improving wetlands habitat.

“With Texas being 95% privately owned, it’s key to work with landowners on this landscape,” Abshier said. “This year, we are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Texas Prairie Wetlands Project. Over 90,000 acres of habitat restoration have been delivered in that time and DU has worked with over 700 landowners in 28 counties. Through the program we provide survey, design and engineering services to ensure what we build has a minimum lifespan of 10 to 15 years.”

Gamakatsu® Introduces The New G-Power Flip & Punch Hook

Bass fishing innovation is nothing new to professional angler and Gamakatsu pro Aaron Martens. With Aaron’s brilliant insight, Gamakatsu has developed the new G-Power Flip & Punch Hook. A step up from the G-Finesse Heavy Cover Hook, the newly designed heavy style is the ultimate in-between hook for heavy to super heavy cover.

The TGW (Tournament Grade Wire) hook, paired with its welded eye, make this hook the strongest in Gamakatsu’s G-Series lineup. When using larger baits and weights for punching through grass mats and flipping into heavy timber, anglers need a hook that’s versatile in all types of cover and able to withstand extreme conditions. “Gamakatsu nailed it with the G-Power Hook,” said Jeff Roberts, Gamakatsu sales manager.

Aaron thought of everything when it came to the new G-Power Flip & Punch Hook. This hook has a shortened point length providing less hook exposure in heavy cover; however, it leaves ample amount of the hook exposed to penetrate through the biggest of bass mouths. Reeling in a five-pound bass is a task of its own, but when adding two pounds of weeds to it, the odds of losing that fish increase. Just like Aaron, all anglers want to land the fish of a lifetime and leave the salad for the dinner table.

Gamakatsu’s new G-Power Flip & Punch Hook comes in a variety of sizes 2/0, 3/0, 4/0 and 5/0 and is complemented by the Nano Smooth Coating finish ensuring this hook maintains Gamakastu’s reputation as the sharpest hook in the boat.

SCI and Texas Trophy Hunters Association Finalize Their Transaction

Safari Club International (SCI), the leader in defending the freedom to hunt and promoting wildlife conservation worldwide, and Texas Trophy Hunters Association (TTHA), Texas’ leading organization for promoting, protecting, and preserving the state’s hunting heritage for future generations, are excited to announce they have concluded their transaction whereby SCI has acquired TTHA.

Founded in 1975, TTHA has long been viewed as a key organization in protecting Texas’ hunting heritage and SCI has no plans to change that. TTHA will continue to operate independently as Texas Trophy Hunters Association with its members and corporate partners maintaining their full benefits.

“This acquisition is part of SCI’s strategic plan to enhance its ability to help protect the freedom to hunt worldwide. This expansion seeks to strengthen SCI’s advocacy for hunters while also defeating efforts by anti-hunters to deny everyone the freedom to hunt,” said SCI CEO W. Laird Hamberlin.

“TTHA is excited to be joining forces with SCI to protect the freedom to hunt and the preservation of wildlife for future generations. We believe SCI has much to offer TTHA’s members and we look forward to a stronger TTHA in the future,” commented TTHA CEO Christina Pittman.

“SCI’s future rests on four solid pillars. They are Membership, Convention, Advocacy and Conservation,” Hamberlin noted. “TTHA has similar pillars. The combination of these two organizations will provide synergies to both organizations, strengthens all four of those pillars for the organizations, and lays the foundation for additional internal and external expansions in the future.”

New York Union Wireman Stalks Once-in-a-Lifetime Mule Deer on Brotherhood Outdoors TV

Spring Hill, Tenn.—Journeyman electrician Dustin Morgan travels from Mexico, New York to northeast Utah in hopes of putting his archery tag on a velvet mule deer buck on an episode of Brotherhood Outdoors airing this week on Sportsman Channel.

For Morgan, a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 43, spotting and stalking trophy mule deer over rolling, sage covered hills is a brand new experience. It’s even more meaningful because his father Don, also a union member and Morgan’s longtime hunting partner, is there to witness it.

Hours of scouting and glassing numerous shootable bucks pays off when the pair and their guide find “Captain Hook” in a spot that allows Morgan to make a stealthy stalk into bow range.

“Hunting the West is something I’ve always wanted to do,” said Morgan. “This was an amazing experience for me, especially being out there with my father, and I want to thank the USA for all of it.”

Brotherhood Outdoors also offers a behind the scenes look at the everyday lives of hardworking union members. In this episode, Morgan installs a new fire alarm network at the high school he attended as a student.

Walker’s® Introduces the ATACS Sport Earbuds

Walker’s®, the leader in hearing protection and enhancement, announces the release of the company’s most ergonomic electronic sound management system yet for shooters and hunters. ATACS Sport Earbuds delivers the state-of-the-art performance serious shooters demand in a platform designed to excel in all-day comfort and operational convenience.

Increasingly, professional shooters, recreational shooters, and hunters are favoring the comfort and digital control of earbud-style sound management systems to protect their hearing and to amplify and discern ambient sound. While earbuds perform these tasks admirably, fitment and security can vary between shooters—especially during high-activity, high-mobility scenarios such as competition shooting and hunting.

The all-new ATACS Sport Earbuds address these challenges by incorporating a dual retention system into a sophisticated and ergonomic platform. Since shooters come in all shapes and sizes, the Walker’s engineers set out to develop an earbud system that would work for everyone. They did this by incorporating soft and flexible ear hooks and a behind-the-neck retention strap into a freshly designed earbud chassis. This unitized retention system, combined with multi-sized foam ear tips, means the ATACS Sport Earbuds are comfortable to wear under any condition and will remain in place even during high mobility activities.

Beyond the comfort and ergonomic features, the ATACS Sport Earbuds include the latest in sound suppression/enhancement technology and operational control. Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, for example, pairs the ATACS Sport Earbuds to your phone via the Walker’s LINK 2.0 app, providing remote control of the listening mode settings (universal, clear voice, power boost, and high frequency boost) as well as auto shutoff times (off, 2, 4, and 6 hours), volume control, battery level, ambient mute, and social media links.

The new ATACS Sport Earbuds come with three different-size foam ear tips and a USB-C charging cable to deliver up to 7.5 hours of battery life per charge.

Germany’s Lower Saxony Police Department Converts to Blackhawk Holsters for Duty Use

Blackhawk®, a leader in law enforcement and military equipment for over 20 years, announced today its German distributor Helmut Hofmann has been awarded a contract from the Niedersachsen Police Department in Germany for new duty holsters from Blackhawk’s T-Series Holster line. The Niedersachsen Police Department, which includes the entire Lower Saxony state police, selected the Blackhawk T-Series L3D as its new service holster as part of the full agency conversion from a competitive brand.

The Niedersachsen Police, which is comprised of 8,000 sworn officers, becomes the second largest European contract for Blackhawk T-Series L3D holsters following the recent French Army win. GET MORE DISTANCE WITH NEW EASTON 4MM AXIS LONG RANGE

Salt Lake City, Utah – When 5MM AXIS came on the scene it revolutionized hunting arrows. The small shaft innovation offered better accuracy and mitigated friction to retain velocity and add penetration. Now  the concept has gone forward to the next level with the introduction of the new 4MM AXIS Long Range.

The Long Rang AXIS will offer bowhunters even more of what they want in a micro diameter arrow. 4mm AXIS uses a lighter weight carbon for more speed to the target in order to drive broadheads deeper upon impact. “Additionally it adds penetration as the shaft passes through with less friction behind the broadhead channel” said Gary Cornum, Easton Director of Marketing. “Millions of successful hunts testify to the awesome effectiveness of a simple concept that equates to more downed big game—it’s like getting magnum ammunition made for a bow.”

Made in Easton’s Utah factory, the AXIS Long Range is engineered with specialized carbon-fiber to increase arrow velocity. Easton 4mm nocks and front-of-center boosting 8-32 half-outs are included to help tighten arrow grouping.  4MM AXIS Long Range is available in four sizes, 250, 300, 340, and 400 in both standard straightness and in the ultra-precise ±.001 Match Grade.

Shimano School Tackles Fall Stripers

Captain Mike Roy Details Productive Patterns for the Fall Bite

Shimano School returns on Tuesday, September 14, with another informative and entertaining event. JP DeRose hosts these live-streaming video seminars, featuring compelling topics and special guests from across the spectrum of the fishing world. Shimano School meets every two weeks and streams live on the Shimano Facebook Page and the Shimano North America’s YouTube Channel.

Captain Mike Roy headlines this edition of Shimano School to discuss Fall techniques for striped bass. Roy is the owner-operator of Reel Cast Charters, and has been guiding clients to trophy stripers in the Connecticut waters of Long Island Sound for over a decade. He has carved out a unique niche in the Northeast sportfishing community by specializing in shallow water striper fishing with light tackle – and he loves chasing stripers in the fall.

Roy notes that, “as water temperatures cool in the fall, big stripers that were pretty lethargic in late summer get supercharged, with aggression levels that are off the charts. Our prime bite window starts in September and can run into mid-November, with every predator – bonita, bluefish and striped bass – on the chew. All of these fish are feeding aggressively as they get ready to travel south, completing their annual migration up and back down the Atlantic coast.”

“In this edition of Shimano School, I’ll be detailing our approach the fall bite from the perspective of light tackle and relatively shallow water. I’ll go in-depth on the ways that we use the versatile G. Loomis IMX-PRO Blue series of saltwater rods to cover the entire presentation spectrum – from small plastics up to big surface poppers. This is a Shimano School that every striped bass angler will appreciate.”

Fall Bass As Easy As 1-2-3

By: Dr. Jason A. Halfen

Fall is an extraordinary time to be a bass angler. As water temperatures cool from their summer peak, baitfish make predictable changes to their typical locations, and bass – both smallmouth and largemouth alike – respond in kind, following their prey and feeding with urgency. After a long summer that scatters bass across multiple habitats, fall is a time of consolidation, pulling large numbers of fish into more focused locales. At the same time, the bass feeding switch is flipped to “on”, providing anglers with excellent opportunities to catch large numbers of heavyweight fish as the leaves show their first tinges of yellow, crimson and gold. Here are three proven techniques that will put more bass in the boat this fall.

1: Throw poppers near hard cover

Shallow water becomes far more hospitable to baitfish as surface temperatures begin their downward slide, with prey frequently congregating near hard, shoreline-related cover. Bass, of course, are never far behind, and can be found waiting to ambush baitfish near docks and fallen timber. Surface poppers are an excellent way to draw bass into the open, triggering aggressive strikes and providing anglers with an all-encompassing, entirely visual fishing experience.

Bass holding near hard cover are suckers for the Mad Max popper.

Dialing in the proper cadence for working a surface popper can quickly become an exercise in interpreting the bass’ mood as dictated by sky conditions, water temperature and general levels of angling pressure. Sometimes, a hearty “chug” followed by a long pause will be effective, especially when calling bass from long distances. At other times, a nervous skitter across the surface that sprays a little water and leaves a distinct bubble trail is best. When working the bait away from cover in open water, a traditional walk-the-dog retrieve can be quite effective. Experimentation is the key; try several different retrieves, being sure to work strike-provoking pauses into each, until you crack the code.

Archery And Crossbow Deer Hunting Seasons Open Sept. 18

Hunt Smart Hunt Safe This Deer Season

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is reminding hunters of their first opportunity to pursue deer this fall with the opening of the 2021 archery and crossbow deer seasons. These seasons run concurrently statewide from Sept. 18 to Jan. 9, 2022. The archery and crossbow seasons extend to Jan. 31, 2022, in  27 Farmland Zone Deer Management Units and all metro sub-units.

“We saw another mild winter last year, so Wisconsin deer hunters can look forward to increased harvest opportunities this season,” said Jeff Pritzl, DNR Deer Program Specialist. “Whether you’re hunting public or private land, I encourage hunters to get out and become familiar with seasonal food sources as this will influence deer movement in their local area.”

In 2020, archery and crossbow hunters harvested more than 110,000 deer, including more than 64,000 bucks, an increase from 2019.

Those interested in hunting with both a vertical bow and crossbow may do so by paying full price for one license and purchasing a $3 upgrade for the second license. Only one bow buck harvest authorization will be issued to hunters who purchase both licenses.

DU TV this week: Collegiate Rivalry

Watch it on the Sportsman Channel

This week Ducks Unlimited Television (DU TV) takes you the Mississippi Delta, home of the blues and a storied duck hunting destination.

In this episode, co-host Ashley Horobetz hunts with DU’s Ducks University members and college rivals in the flooded timber near Tippo, Miss. University of Mississippi (UM) Chapter chairman Kenndi Pass joins Horobetz and Mississippi State (MSU) Chapter Chairman Ben Ferguson for some great action on fast-flying woodies and good-natured ribbing between the rival schools.

“Everyone knows there’s a rivalry between Ole Miss and Mississippi State,” Pass said. “But it’s really cool to see how that rivalry has fueled an amazing outpouring of support in both chapters leading to more resources for DU’s wetlands conservation efforts.”

The campuses of UM and MSU are located less than two hours apart in the state, and families often have members that attended both schools. So, the rivalry runs deep, but when it comes to raising money for Ducks Unlimited, students at both schools agree it’s good for the ducks.

DC PROJECT APPLAUDS ATF NOMINEE WITHDRAWAL

Americans Deserve Unbiased Leadership

Today, the Biden Administration pulled David Chipman’s nomination to serve as the Bureau of Alcohol Tabacco Firearms and Explosives director. The DC Project and its members opposed Chipman’s nomination and raised significant concerns to legislators given his history serving as a policy advisor for a gun control advocacy group and his participation in the trial related to the ATF’s uncontrolled abuse of authority in Waco, Texas, in 1993.

Chipman would have been a disaster for law-abiding firearm owners and the gun culture of our nation. More importantly, he would have had a detrimental impact on women’s ability to protect themselves and their families.

Founder of the DC Project, Dianna Muller, stated, “The DC Project applauds the Senators who listened to voices of their constituents and sent a message to the Administration that Chipman was unfit to lead the Bureau of Alcohol Tabacco Firearms and Explosives.”

“We will work tirelessly with Members who defend the Second Amendment and ensure that ATF leadership is unbiased and will serve the American people with integrity. We will continue to defend the Constitution and the principles upon which our country was founded,” she added.
