SPRO’s Tackle Box Lineup Makes Storage Easy, Safe and Secure

For years, SPRO® has brought anglers across the fishing spectrum a series of multispecies tackle items that are invariably the best in their class. Often overlooked is SPRO’s series of waterproof tackle boxes that live up to those same standards.

SPRO’s 3500, 3700 and 3700D share a distinctive black-tinted exterior and lime-green latches, but their similarities don’t stop at appearances. Inside, they feature layouts that are easily adjustable both vertically and horizontally to organize and separate your precious lures, and the compartments are tight-fitting to preclude unnecessary mixing. But that’s not all. These boxes come with a waterproof seal that prevents moisture intrusion and keeps your lures rust-free. Even if you drop the box, it won’t open; another measure taken with your convenience and wallet in mind.

The three boxes come in popular sizes that will fit in your hand, your tackle bag, or just about any boat compartment.

The 3500 is 10” x 7.4” x 1.87” and retails for $8.50.

The 3700 is 14” x 9” x 2” and retails for $11.50.

Team Gold Tip Takes Home Triple Crowns and Gold Medals at IBO World Championship, US Open

Levi Morgan, Tim Gillingham End Record-Breaking Seasons with Impressive Wins

Gold Tip, an industry leader in carbon arrows and bolts, is celebrating recent team wins, including taking home two golds at the IBO World Championship (August 5-8 in Seven Springs, Pennsylvania), and gold at the USA Archery Target Nationals and U.S. Open (August 18-21 in Richmond, Virginia). In addition, the Triple Crown awards for all three IBO Men’s Pro classes were won by Gold Tip Shooters this year.

At the IBO World Championship, Gold Tip shooter Levi Morgan had an incredible come-from-behind win in the Men’s Pro class, where he hit the final eight 11 rings in a row to take home the top prize. Likewise, the Pro Bowhunter podium was swept by Gold Tip and Bee Stinger shooters, with Jonathan Smith taking home top honors, John Ball in second place and Justin Ertel in third place. In the Senior Pro class, Gold Tip shooters Jeff Kirkland and Tim Gillingham took third and fourth, respectively.

The IBO’s Triple Crown culminated with all three of the Men’s Pro Classes being won by Gold Tip shooters. The IBO Triple Crown is awarded to the top points leader in every class over the three tournaments of the IBO National Triple Crown. Levi Morgan dominated the Men’s Pro Class, Tim Gillingham reigned supreme in the Senior Pro Class and the Pro Hunter Class was topped by longtime Gold Tip staffer Matt Bressler.

At the USA Archery Target Nationals and U.S. Open, Team Gold Tip continued to shine, with Tim Gillingham taking gold in the Compound Master Men’s event. With a stacked field of experienced shooters, Gillingham went head-to-head as a top four seed in the medal matches to earn his first-place finish. In the process, Gillingham took home two world records in the Master Class. This extends his tally to three new world records for the year, each accomplished with his Gold Tip Pierce shafts and Bee Stinger Premier Plus bars.

The U.S. Concealed Carry Association is Committed to Educating Texas Firearms Owners

The organization now offers a free guide as a resource for HB1927.

The U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA), the industry-leading organization in firearms training and education, released the 2021 Texas Permitless Carry Guide to encourage Texas gun owners to make safety and training a priority with the inception of H.B. 1927.

On June 16, 2021, Governor Abbott signed H.B.1927 (the Firearm Carry Act of 2021) which allows individuals 21 years of age or older in Texas to open carry or concealed carry a firearm in public without a special permit or license. The bill went into effect today, making Texas the 21st state to permit constitutional carry.

“The USCCA is proud of Texas for continuing to fight for and preserve Texans’ natural-born right to self-defense,” said Founder and CEO Tim Schmidt. “The USCCA is committed to providing a resource for the firearms community to understand the provisions under H.B. 1927.”

That resource is the 2021 Texas Permitless Carry Guide. The comprehensive guide will cover topics including:

Western Hunting: What Are You Packing?

Hunting our Western States usually requires a good deal of hiking over some steep and rocky terrain, making the weight being carried a real issue. So, the intelligent Western hunter looks for lightweight, compact gear.

Such as the following…

Swagger’s SEA12 (Extreme Angle) Bipod, for example, from Swagger Bipods. Every shooter wants the rigidity of a traditional bipod but also have the ability to cant and traverse with ease. Swagger took that desire and put it into the shooter series bipod’s compact SEA12 extends from 9- to 12-inches and packs very light at just 13.6 ounces. Designed for hunting or shooting situations where acute angles are the norm, the SEA12 features extreme can and traverse. The over-molded Flex Ready joint provides a very stable shooting platform, and the unit mounts right to a Picatinny rail.

The TRUE Replaceable Blade Knife is a nifty and very functional pocket knife featuring replaceable blades. The secure, two-step blade release system gives excellent cutting control and provides simple blade replacement. Equipped with three blades, each made of 3CR13 Stainless Steel: two fine edge blades; and a saw blade for added functionality. The steel clip and blade storage case provide convenient carry, and the whole package folds in under 3.5-inches.

As for getting to the destination, security should never be compromised. The SnapSafe Trunk Safe II will keep gear secure in the hunter’s vehicle for the drive out and back. Valuables are stored out of sight in this roomy safe—exterior dimensions, 42”W x 7”H x 13”D—but are easy to access via a digital lock and with a key backup. The heavy-duty 13- gauge steel exterior features a rugged 6-gauge steel door operated by eight interior locking lugs.

Pheasants Forever, Quail Forever, and United Sorghum Checkoff Program Unveil Habitat Incentive Program for Kansas Sorghum Producers

Sorghum for BIRDS initiative showcases connection between habitat and grain production

Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever have partnered with the United Sorghum Checkoff Program (USCP) to offer conservation cost-share opportunities for sorghum producers in western Kansas. The new sustainability initiative – Sorghum for BIRDS (Building Innovative, Resilient, and Diverse agricultural Systems) – targets low performing acres by offering growers a one-time incentive payment to apply targeted conservation practices in tandem with sorghum production. The Sorghum for BIRDS application period is now open to Kansas producers in a 15-county region.

Committed to showcasing the nexus between upland bird habitats and sorghum production, The Habitat Organization and USCP launched the Sorghum for BIRDS initiative to help achieve mutual goals for landscape-level sustainability and profitability in the heart of America’s sorghum belt. Paired with a wide variety of targeted conservation practices, the program is designed to provide increased technical support for sorghum growers to enhance upland bird habitat while improving farm-level profitability and sustainability outcomes.

“Sorghum has such an important role to play in sustainable farming systems, especially here in the High Plains,” says Kira Everhart-Valentin, USCP Sustainability Director. “Its resource-conserving nature makes it a key contributor to healthy soils and the protection of precious water sources, while its wildlife-friendly characteristics help to support diverse ecosystems. Sorghum is good for birds and good for farms, and we’re very excited about this opportunity for growers to bring more value to their operations.”

“Sustainability begins with profitability, which is why our new initiative is groundbreaking for western Kansas. Sorghum for BIRDS is an incredibly exciting opportunity to reach new growers and help connect them to cost-share programs they may not otherwise be aware of,” stated Brittany Smith, Precision Ag & Conservation Specialist for Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever. “My role is to help producers identify conservation options that address profitability and sustainability throughout the entire farm.  Working one-on-one with growers, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever will help implement innovative solutions from start to finish.”

USMC’s Minturn Wins Three- and Four-Gun Aggregates at 2021 National CMP Games Matches

CAMP PERRY, Ohio – Returning to the National Matches for the first time since 2016, 1st Lt. James Minturn, 29, of the U.S. Marine Corps shooting team made himself comfortable on the ranges as he claimed both the Three-Gun and Four-Gun Aggregate competitions during the Games portion of the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) National Rifle Matches. Minturn accumulated scores of 865-21X and 1156-30X, respectively, in the events.CAMP PERRY, Ohio – Returning to the National Matches for the first time since 2016, 1st Lt. Minturn accumulated scores of 865-21X and 1156-30X, respectively, in the events.

The CMP National Games matches feature a variety of vintage and modern rifles fired in recreational-style competitions. The events provide unique challenges to competitors while also celebrating the legacy of each remarkable firearm on the historic grounds of Camp Perry – home to the National Matches for over a century.

Doug Armstrong led the John C. Garand and Vintage Military competitions.

“It was a little chaotic, but it was good,” Minturn said of his 2021 Camp Perry showing. “I had a lot of new rifles that I had never touched before, so I had no zeroes – so that was fun.”

Minturn has been to the National Matches several times, even as a junior, and made the most of his 2021 experience by firing in CMP’s Highpower events in July, followed by the traditional National Trophy Rifle matches and the National Games Matches the following week in August. He also fired in the National Air Gun events and the concluding National Long Range Matches.

It had been about eight years since Minturn had fired vintage-style, leaving him to resort to a mix of borrowed rifles from friends and family to use on the range during the Games events.

SnapSafe® Vault Doors – Turn Any Room into a Secure Vault Room

SnapSafe® Vault Doors enhance the security of any closet, room or storm shelter. Upgrading a wooden door to a heavy-duty steel SnapSafe Vault Door is an economical, ultra-secure, yet elegant option.

Want the ultimate for in-home security? A vault is a big step up in security and storage space compared to a safe. Whether fortifying a safe room or protecting various valuables in one place, a vault is a great flexible solution. Yet, many homeowners don’t consider incorporating a vault into a new or existing building because of perceived complexity and cost. SnapSafe® Vault Doors change that experience. With to-home delivery, mounting hardware, clear instructions, and prices comparable to other security solutions, a SnapSafe vault door is a smart upgrade to high-security for any home or business.

While freestanding safes or lockboxes deliver excellent security, a vault room provides advantages that neither of those options offers. First, a vault room allows a single location for safekeeping valuables. And secure storage space is the perfect place for displaying guns, art, jewelry or collectibles. The vault room door secures an existing room, rather than taking up space, like a safe. Finally, a vault room door costs thousands less than other comparable solutions.

The 12-gauge steel SnapSafe Vault Door and frame boasts a total of 18 bolts – nine locking bolts and nine deadbolts lock into the frame plus a steel-trimmed exterior. Vault doors are available in three styles to suit any floorplan and preferences: two 32-inch wide vault doors in either in-swing or out-swing configurations and a 36-inch wide in-swing door.

Vault door installation is easy with two people using the included instructions, tools and mounting hardware. Every SnapSafe Vault Door is delivered directly to any street address, s

Chestnut Harvest – Return on Investment

In a world of instant gratification, too often, we fail to consider the long term. The folks at Chestnut Hill Outdoors have a different philosophy. With four generations of tree-planting expertise, they believe in putting down roots and investing in the land, so it will continue providing sustainable benefits not just now but for generations to come.

Dunstan Chestnut trees provide a prime example. Food plots are a great way to attract wildlife, and when planted today, they will produce tomorrow but need continual re-investment to provide dividends. Planting Dunstan Chestnut trees as an alternative or supplement represents a one-time investment. It won’t pay off quite as quickly, but it will continue to do so indefinitely once it starts in three to five years. You and your family can enjoy them soon enough, and your children and grandchildren will enjoy a sustainable habitat later, carrying on the family traditions of love and appreciation for the land.

The roots of the Dunstan Chestnut go back to Dr. Robert T. Dunstan, who in the 1950s, stopped the complete devastation of the American chestnut tree by developing a blight-resistant hybrid called the Dunstan Chestnut. This resilient tree produces large, nutritious nuts that are good for wildlife, good for people and good for the land.

Dunstan eventually moved his second-generation stock to north-central Florida, where the family established Chestnut Hill Nursery. In 1984, they planted a grove of 500 trees using grafts from the best of the second generation trees and the third generation of seedling Dunstans. Today, those trees are over 50 feet tall and 16-20 inches in diameter, and represent the foundation for Dunstan Chestnut stock now available to consumers.

Dunstan Chestnut trees offer several distinct advantages to landowners looking to enrich their environment now and for future generations. They’re blight-resistant, so they will not succumb to potentially devastating infestations. They grow faster and bigger than oaks, sometimes bearing in two to five years, where a white oak might not bear for 20 years. They lack the boom and bust cycles more common to oaks, and their blooms come out later in the spring, so they are far less susceptible to broad-scale mast crop failures caused by late freezes.

American-Made Hunt Brand, FORLOH, Teams Up With American Olympian, Scotty Lago

Olympic medalist snowboarder partners with brand to share his passion for hunting

What does American snowboarder and Olympic medalist Scott Lago have in common with an American-made technical hunt apparel brand? A shared passion for the hunt and an appreciation for nailing the smallest details.   FORLOH, the first and only brand to manufacture high-end technical hunting and outdoor apparel that is 100 percent made in America, is pleased to announce a partnership with Scotty Lago, the 2010 Winter Olympic bronze medalist in snowboarding.

“Scotty is an incredibly talented snowboarder, no question, but also a passionate hunter and dedicated conservationist and we’re stoked to partner with him at FORLOH,” shares Andy Techmanski, Founder and CEO at FORLOH. “This is an awesome opportunity to show the multidimensional lives of hunters here in the US. Yes, we enjoy spending time on the hunt but we all have other pursuits that we enjoy. It’s just that not all of us receive an Olympic medal for our performance.”

Lago’s passion and love for hunting originates from his childhood when as a young boy he’d watch his dad in the tree stand. While his passion for snow and speed ultimately took him across the globe in search of powder days, and Vancouver where he scored a bronze medal during the Winter Olympic games in 2010, these days Lago spends almost every day in the woods.

“FORLOH gear is the best apparel I’ve worn and I’m blown away by the attention to detail and the technical aspects that truly set it apart. Besides the amazing performance, the opportunity to back a brand completely manufactured in the US is awesome,” adds Lago. “The versatility of their camo patterns means I can wear their gear turkey hunting, duck hunting, deer hunting…I don’t need a full closet of patterns anymore.”

Firminator – Accu-Seed System

Among the many features that make Ranew’s Outdoor Equipment Firminator all-in-one food plot implement the most versatile piece of equipment in the industry is its Accu-Seed System. It allows the Firminator to handle any seed sizes from large corn, soybeans, peas and sunflowers down to the tiniest clovers, without seed waste or need to change seed hoppers.

When planting food plots, seed blends are often a better option than monoculture. Different plant species grow and reach peak nutrition at different rates, and providing a more diverse crop expands when your plots will be most attractive to wildlife. Different plants also have different tolerance for environmental conditions, and a blend ensures at least some will be able to withstand fluctuations like drought or flooding and early or late frosts.

However, different plants can sometimes have vastly different seed sizes. Accommodating them can be problematic for conventional food plotting equipment where larger seeds may get stuck or smaller seeds will spill through too quickly. It may require multiple implements and time-consuming adjustments or result in costly seed waste.

The Firminator’s Accu-Seed System ensures that won’t be the case. It allows you to adjust the metering openings in one-sixteenth-inch graduations until you find the proper selections for the largest seed in your blend. As you move forward, the seed is dropped into a specially designed baffle that thoroughly distributes the seed right in front of the culti-packer to enhance seed-to-soil contact for better germination rates and protection from wind deflection. Because the system is ground-driven, the seed is metered out relative to the speed you travel. Even better, when the Firminator stops rolling, the seed stops falling. You won’t have to worry about wasting smaller seeds that may continue to spill out of other hoppers.

With the optional seed hopper agitator, you can even spread blends with extreme size differences in a single pass. The agitator helps keep seed thoroughly mixed and prevents smaller seeds from sifting through too quickly.

TickEase Tick Removal Tweezers

I feel like I have been writing a lot lately about bugs and honestly, I am no expert but I spend a whole lot of time outdoors with my hunting dog either training, working, dog walks and hunting.  All of this time outdoors has me hyper focused on keeping safe.  We already fully recommend the best prevention for ticks is to not get ticks and the combination P2 Pak from Ranger Ready is our absolute recommendation to keep ticks off your body and clothes.  Clothes treated with permethrin and skin treated with picaridin keeps ticks away in most all cases.  However, if someone is not treated or a tick shows up on a dog, you have to have a plan to remove it.

Tick Man Dan Wolff created the TickEase product says, “I designed TickEase with a very fine-tipped pair of tweezers at one end that is perfect for removing even the smallest ticks from humans quickly and effectively.  The other end of the tool features a slotted scoop that is perfect for removing those big, engorged, blueberry-sized ticks from pets and other animals.”

Miko, our pup came back after a day in the field and I was able to immediately test these out as she had a tick insider her ear.  It worked quickly and the fine tip tweezers also worked great to get out a splinter out of my hand a few hours later.  These are not expensive at $11.99 and having a great set of tweezers in your first aid kit and your dog first aid kit is not a bad idea.  You never know when having a great set of tweezers will make a difference for you.

Check these out at TickEase.com or buy them on Amazon.com.

HAVA’s 10th Annual Clays for Heroes Sporting Event

Honored American Veterans Afield (HAVA) hosted six veterans from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center at a two-day shotgun training and sporting clays event. Three Soldiers, two Marines, and one Sailor participated and shared the camaraderie of time away from the hospital and medical appointments.

The veterans spent the first day with three champion shooters/coaches. Shotgun shooting has many differences from the typical military shooting platforms of rifles and pistols.  The second day was a full sporting clays course

“We are so happy that the veterans from Walter Reed are able to participate in our event” said Ashley Butcher, Clays for Heroes founder. “We started the event as way to raise funds to help veterans, so that they can be here and take part in the event means so much to all of us.” Butcher jokes that both her Mom and Dad “work” for her, but the reality is that the three of them are the core of an impressive group of volunteers that have organized 10 consecutive and successful events.

“We are ever so grateful to Rochester-Brooks Gun Club for providing a venue for this event. Their sporting clays course is phenomenal” said John Butcher, who, when asked what his role in Clays for Heroes is, frequently says “I’m Ashley’s Dad and do what she tells me to.” But, at every turn, John was there helping the veterans have a safe and fun event.

Karen Noel, Walter Reed’s recreational therapy representative said, “I think this group of veterans is shooting very well!”

2nd Annual Women’s Clays Extravaganza Draws 82 Competitors from 17 States

AUSTIN, TX (AGirlandAGun.org) — “Pull!” was the anthem heard around the courses as 82 competitors participated in the 2nd Annual Women’s Clays Extravaganza Presented by CZ-USA Field Sports and hosted by A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League (AG & AG). The shoot included Trap, 5 Stand, and two different Main Event sporting clays courses. It took place August 27 & 28, 2021, at Powder Creek Shooting Park in Lenexa, KS.

CZ-USA Pro Staff hosted half-day clinics on the two days prior to the shoot. “One of my favorite things about AG & AG is the organization’s focus on education,” says Dave Miller, Shotgun Product Manager for CZ-USA. “Unlike so many misguided programs, AG & AG provides opportunities for its members to learn and grow in the shooting sports.”

A group of women from Austin, TX, break clays in the flurry hosted by CZ-USA.

Ranging from brand-new to sporting clays to Master-level shooters, the competitors varied in skills and experience. There were four Junior shooters in attendance. In addition, many shooters were pushed outside their comfort zones to try new shotgun sports that they had not competed in before.

“I shot trap for the first time and had a perfect 25 out of 25 straight hits my first round!” exclaimed Leslie Woolley from Cleburne, TX. “The Texas girls all had a great showing on clays and trap both. We have also had as much fun giggling as much as we have shooting!”

82 competitors participated in the 2nd Annual Women’s Clays Extravaganza Presented by CZ-USA Field Sports and hosted by A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League (AG & AG).

Medals were awarded to the Top 3 in sporting clays and the Top 3 in 5-stand and trap, as well as the Top 1 High Overall winner. The Top 10 Overall Finishers included:

The Redesigned Shimano Nasci FC Delivers Premium Features to All Anglers

The New Nasci FC Spinning Reels Expertly Blends Smooth Operation with Durability

Anglers demand smooth operation and durability from their reels, paired with the capacity to excel at multiple presentations while seamlessly pivoting between freshwater and saltwater applications. The newly redesigned Shimano Nasci FC series of spinning reels provides all of this and more at an affordable price point.

The redesigned Nasci family includes six reels in sizes from 500 to C5000 to support a wide range of freshwater and saltwater applications. New for 2021, all Nasci FC reels in the 1000-series and larger now incorporate Shimano’s SilentDrive technology. A feature found in Shimano’s flagship lineup of reels, SilentDrive leverages high-precision, micron-level tolerances for each drive train component to reduce wobble, noise and vibration. Anglers fishing with Nasci will enjoy smooth, quiet reeling and enhanced overall reel performance thanks to SilentDrive.

A refined, robust gear train is at the core of every redesigned Nasci reel, now fortified with premium Shimano technologies to ensure reliable operation across a range of demanding applications. Each Nasci reel incorporates the Shimano HAGANE Gear: A cold-forged aluminum drive gear that delivers smooth feel and function over many seasons. By leveraging an exclusive three-dimensional design process and eliminating cutting work on the drive gear, the HAGANE gear offers unparalleled durability compared to reels with diecast or machined gear construction.

Nasci FC reels in the 1000-series and larger include the Shimano X-Ship and CoreProtect systems. By supporting the pinion gear with bearings on both ends, the X-Ship system maintains precise alignment of the pinion gear with the drive gear, providing increased gear durability when fighting hard-charging game fish. CoreProtect delivers enhanced water resistance without creating a heavy rotational feeling by protecting three critical reel areas – the roller clutch, body and line roller – against water intrusion. All Nasci FC reels incorporate the Shimano G Free Body design, reducing fatigue and enhancing casting comfort by shifting the reel’s center of gravity closer to the angler’s hand position.
