“Wild Boar Fever: The Art of Boar”: Epic Driven Hunting Series Launches September 11 on Outdoor Channel and MyOutdoorTV

In 2019, Outdoor Channel introduced North American audiences to one of the world’s most popular and exciting hunting methods – driven hunting – with Wild Boar Fever presented by Aimpoint. On September 11,  a new season of this most-celebrated global driven hunt series launches on Outdoor Channel and MyOutdoorTV (MOTV) – Wild Boar Fever: The Art of Boar presented by Aimpoint.

Narrated and curated by the star of Wild Boar Fever, legendary German hunter Franz-Albrecht Oettingen-Spielberg, The Art of Boar showcases the very best scenes from 11 Wild Boar Fever  seasons filmed over the past two decades.

Wild Boar Fever: The Art of Boar is the ultimate celebration of everything that has made Wild Boar Fever so popular with global audiences. Watch monster keilers being taken at full pace in France, Hungary, Croatia and Romania. See the precision marksmanship that defies the laws of physics and, of course, watch many of the most famous scenes of Franz-Albrecht doing what he does best. Franz-Albrecht also reveals to audiences for the first time what it was like starring in the most famous Wild Boar Fever scenes, which molded a generation of hunters and defined a category. Wild Boar Fever is an epic compilation of arguably the best driven hunting scenes ever filmed, all together in one Season for the first time, starting September 11.

Wild boar huntingin Europe involves more than a bolt-action rifle and steady nerves. A driven hunt pushes boar towards hunters from their daytime cover using specially-trained dogs and a team of fearless beaters. The hunters selectively shoot the boar with single shots from bolt action rifles as they run through the gun line. This style of hunting is the most popular method in Europe because – not only is it a highly-effective means of managing a growing and menacing population – it is a fast-paced, challenging and thrilling method of shooting game on the run.

“The Wild Boar Fever series was created to capture the imagination of hunters the world over,” Aimpoint President Lennart Ljungfelt said. “By filming real hunters in the most exciting driven hunt scenes, audiences were offered dream scenarios showing them the very pinnacle of this style of hunting. We are proud of Aimpoint’s participation in all 11 seasons of this groundbreaking show. Two decades ago, we had no idea how far the Wild Boar Fever concept would go. It has since been instrumental in making this hunting genre the most popular in Europe and beyond. The Art of Boar promises to take Wild Boar Fever fans on a tour de force through the most spectacular footage ever created in the hunting field.”

Chiggers are the Worst

How to Protect yourself from Chiggers while Hunting

Chiggers are nasty little bugs, and when I say little, I mean tiny.  When they bite you they leave the most irritating, scratchy bite you can imagine.  Most people think these insects are invisible, but when you have lots of them on you all at once, you can clearly see them.  Hunters wearing dark clothes rarely see chiggers , but if you are wearing light clothes the red color of the chiggers is clearly visible.  Sometimes, they seem to swarm up on you and when this happens, don’t panic.

Chiggers are tiny larvae from the arachnid (spider) family. They are referred to as chiggers, the red menace and sometimes red bugs.  Most people never notice when a chigger is on them or when the chigger bites them, but the reaction over the next 24 hours and beyond is enough to drive you crazy.  Chiggers are found in tall weeds and grasses, forests, farms, grass lawns, ponds, lakes and hiking trails.  I have even seen them on the edge of concrete patios.  Chigger are active at all temperatures above 60˚F (16˚C) and they die at temperatures below 42˚F (6˚C).  In the Spring, I pray for late season cold snaps and in the Fall I hope for early season cold snaps to kill off chiggers.

Where do Chiggers Live?

Walking into the outdoors is the perfect to get bitten by chiggers.  Chiggers hang out on the grasses and leaves of vegetation and crawl across leaves on the ground.  They love moist, shady locations filled with lots of leaves.  If it is hot and dry, you may not find chiggers, but if there is shade and moisture you can bet they will be around.  I have them in my backyard. They love the area around our compost bins and our gardens as well in the grass.  Chiggers brush off onto your clothes and transfer themselves onto your skin and crawl up your legs.  They can easily crawl up your boots, socks, skin or pants.  They are incessant.

How to Prevent Chiggers from biting you?

The best way to protect yourself from chiggers is to prevent their ability to survive on your body.  We recommend the Ranger Ready P2 Pak for the ultimate one-two punch against chiggers, mosquitoes, black flies and ticks.  The P2 Pak contains a bottle of Ranger Ready’s Permethrin 0.5%, to spray on all of your clothes, as well as a bottle of their Picaridin 20% to apply on all of your exposed skin.  We started using Ranger Ready Repellents in late 2019 and found that using the combination of Permethrin on my clothing and gear and Picaridin on all of my exposed skin made an immediate impact. I have not been bitten by a chigger when I’ve used Ranger Ready’s Permethrin and Picaridin in the last two years even though my time in the outdoors has increased.

How to get Chiggers Off

If you have not sprayed yourself and your clothes and you believe you have gotten chiggers on your clothes or skin, the first step is to spray down with Picaridin.  Picaridin works like a mace to bugs like chiggers and ticks.  The next step is to take off your clothes in your garage or outside and put them into a black trash bag. Then hit the shower as quickly as you can.  Soap and water do a solid job of getting rid of these pests on your skin.  After that, run your clothes in the dryer at extreme heat for 25 minutes before throwing them into the washing machine for a full wash.  Once your clothes are washed and dried, treat them with Ranger Ready Permethrin 0.5% so you are protected from chiggers and other biting insects on your next adventure.

TRUE Knives SmartKnife+ Puts Multi-Use in a Small and ‘Smart’ Package

A stand-alone knife is always better than a multi-tool. What about a stand-alone knife that has had some additions? When the primary purpose of a tool is for cutting, and it retains that foundation, adding some extras can carry a user far beyond standard capabilities. It may not entirely be a multi-tool, but it definitely comes in handy.

TRUE Knives releases their SmartKnife+. It’s a small pocket knife that has been augmented to add some additional uses. Whether a user actually employs these additions, it doesn’t take away from the original function of being a knife. This knife houses a bottle opener, a .25” bit driver with a Phillips bit included in the magnetic bit storage, three flat head screwdrivers, 6mm-14mm wrenches, wire strippers, a pry bar, a 2” inch ruler, and a 5cm ruler. All of this is housed in the high-grade stainless-steel frame. This has a true multi-tool capability.

The 2.375” partially-serrated blade is 420 stainless steel with a black oxide coating, more than enough for daily tasks. This steel material is easy to sharpen and will offer some serious rust prevention. When folded, the flipper acts as a flathead screwdriver or small prying tool, while the opposite is a bottle opener. On the butt of the knife is a small pry bar and two additional flat head screwdrivers. Just above the pry bar is the .25” bit storage. The .25” bit driver is accessible at the top of the handle when the knife is closed. In the middle of the handle are a series of metric wrenches that can cover most tasks, and, on the sides, a 2” ruler, a 5cm ruler, and a file are featured.

This knife is, at its core, a knife with extra features. TRUE Knives has devoted itself to keeping the main use unadulterated, effectively retaining the full usability of the knife with extra features. CZ Expands Striker Pistol Line with New P-10 F Competition-Ready

The new P-10 F Competition-Ready offers all of the popular striker-fired pistol line’s features in an enhanced, competition-ready package.

While many of CZ’s tactical handguns were born of competition guns, the new CZ P-10 F Competition-Ready pistol followed the opposite trajectory. The CZ P-10 C, released in 2017, was the gunmaker’s first striker-fired pistol. It was designed as a compact polymer-framed gun for self-defense and military use and was followed by the subcompact P-10 S and the full-size P-10 F.

The new P-10 F Competition-Ready has a barrel and slide that are a half-inch longer than the full-size model, providing a longer sight radius for the included fiber optic front sight and fixed serrated rear sight, resulting in increased accuracy. Additionally, like other P-10 models, the slide is milled to accept mounting plates for the most popular micro red-dot optics on the market—a must for any competition gun.

The pistol is outfitted with an Apex Tactical extended magazine catch, Apex Tactical extended slide stop, HB Industries trigger and Apex Tactical back-slide cover for increased performance. The half-inch longer barrel also has improved ramp geometry and a match 9mm chamber; both features were designed to improve the reliability and accuracy of the P-10F Competition-Ready. Since every competition gun needs a little flash, gold accents on the barrel slide cover and on the trigger and Henning Group magazine bases make this handgun stand out in the P-10 line and on the firing line.

Like the original, the new P-10 has a polymer frame with three interchangeable backstraps and ergonomics similar to the hammer-fired CZ 75, and a cold hammer-forged 5-inch barrel with a black nitride finish for unparalleled accuracy and durability.

Primal Descender Device and Full-Body Harness Combo for Treestand Hunters

Automatic, Controlled and Hands-Free Descent

Safety harnesses are essential when it comes to treestand safety, but hanging in a harness for too long after a fall can cause permanent injury, or even death.

Primal Treestands’ Emergency Descender prevents injury or death by safely lowering the hunter to the ground immediately after a fall, even if the hunter is unconscious.

A safe but quick descent is essential because after just a few minutes of hanging in the harness, the harness’s leg straps can interrupt blood flow to and from the legs, causing a deadly condition known as suspension trauma. Pain, unconsciousness and even death can occur within as little as 15 minutes of hanging in a harness.

The Emergency Descender lowers the hunter automatically and hands-free IMMEDIATELY after a fall, even if a hunter is unconscious or injured. The weight range for users is 120 up to 300 pounds. The Emergency Descender is small enough to fit into a coat or safety harness pocket, weighs less than 2 pounds and provides up to 25 feet of descent. The Emergency Descender is a simple system that could save your life! The new Protector Harness is lightweight and comfortable for all-day hunts, featuring padded shoulder and waist straps and a lineman’s climbing belt for equipment installation.

How much is your life worth? Get down easy with the Emergency Descender, and hunt again tomorrow!

Fall wild turkey season opens Sept. 15

LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska’s fall wild turkey season begins Sept. 15, giving hunters a chance to harvest two turkeys on a single permit.

Turkey hunting can be combined with big game, upland game, waterfowl or fishing for a true Nebraska mixed bag adventure.

Fall turkey permits are valid statewide, cost just $8 for youth age 15 and younger, and allow hunters the option of harvesting with either a bow or shotgun. Fall hunters can buy up to two turkey permits, and the bag limit for a fall permit is two turkeys of either sex.

Turkey hunters in Nebraska enjoy a long fall season, which ends Jan. 31, 2022, and high success and satisfaction rates. Wild turkeys can be found all across Nebraska, and more than 1.2 million acres of land are publicly accessible across the state.

The Nebraska Public Access Atlas provides hunters a guide to publicly accessible lands. It is available at  outdoornebraska.gov/publicaccessatlas.

Convergent Overseer Predator Pro Pack: A Triple Whammy for Predators

Convergent’s Overseer Predator Pro Pack is a set of easy-to-use mouth-blown predator calls designed by Master Call Builder Kerry Carver and professional predator hunter Byron South. So when you need realistic sounds to bring predators in, the Overseer Predator Pro Pack is the perfect handheld solution.

Predators such as coyotes often move into areas where they haven’t been historically numerous. In many cases, they begin to compete with human hunters for wild game, sometimes severely reducing natural populations of desirable species such as deer and wild turkey. It’s only natural that hunters wishing to reduce the number of predators can attract them by using the sounds of wounded or distressed animals. The Predator Pro Pack contains a trio of the best calls ever made for this purpose.

The Overseer Open Reed Predator Call is often relied upon by professional hunters due to its wide range of sounds, offering the ability to make high-pitched bird sounds, raspy distressed-jackrabbit sounds, and everything in between. The Open Reed Overseer can even be used to imitate coyote howls and ki-yis, all while resisting reed freeze. In addition, its thin Mylar reed makes it easy to blow, and the unique tone board design helps hunters easily transition from low to high pitch sounds.

The Overseer Predator Bite Call offers a rubber mouthpiece, which hunters can “bite” to change its tone and create a wide range of distressed-animal sounds. Adjusting one’s pinch point and air pressure enable callers to create “emotion” in the call to get predators excited about coming in – even those call-shy critters who have learned to be wary of coming to calls.

The Overseer Closed Reed Cotton Tail Call brings simplicity and consistency to your calling, ensuring the perfect sound every time. Neither lip position nor bite pressure matter with this call, making it extremely easy to use. To vary the pitch and volume of the calling, use your hand to create some backpressure. The double stainless steel reed is designed to last a lifetime, ensuring that a hunter’s calls will always sound like a cottontail rabbit in distress.

CZ-USA P-10 M CCW Pistol Now Available in the U.S.

CZ-USA has announced a new era in concealed carry pistols with the much-anticipated micro-compact P-10 M pistol release. This gun has everything people love about CZ pistols while being engineered explicitly for flawless concealed carry.

The ultra-slick and affordable 9mm P-10 M is sized just right for easy concealability while retaining the famed ergonomics of the full-size P-10 pistol in the ever-expanding line of polymer-framed handguns.

The 3.19-inch barrel is cold hammer-forged and is almost two inches shorter than the largest pistol in the line, the new P-10 F Comp Ready. And while the barrel is only slightly shorter than the barrel on the P-10 C, the new P-10 M is both slimmer and more than 4oz’s lighter than our subcompact P-10S!

Weighing in at a featherweight 20.1 ounces, the P-10 M has a capacity of 7+1 rounds in a slim, metal staggered magazine, which contributes to the handgun’s narrow overall width of just one inch.

The first thing most people notice about the P-10 M is its completely smooth appearance. There are no controls or levers on either side of the gun other than the magazine release.

Scott Reynolds, stated, “Assisting with critical costs provides the opportunity for more athletes to participate in shooting sports where they’ll learn leadership skills, confidence, and discipline that will benefit them throughout their lives. Our June 2021 cycle was the largest June grant cycle to date, proving growth and continued opportunities for youth involved in this great sport. I am elated to see more and more teams requesting their cash grants year-over-year.” In 2021 alone, MidwayUSA Foundation has paid over $5.3 million in cash grants to youth shooting teams. These funds are benefiting 1,358 teams and those teams are eligible to apply for their cash grant every year.

Each shooting team’s grant is 5% of their MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment balance, so as a team’s endowment grows, so does their annual cash grant. The Foundation offers various resources to help shooting teams increase their endowment. Every youth shooting team can receive donations directly to their endowment through the MidwayUSA Foundation website. Those tax-deductible donations are also matched, thanks to Larry and Brenda Potterfield, owners of MidwayUSA, who fund the Foundation’s Matching Program.  Along with donations, teams can request free products to use in their community fundraisers. Proceeds donated to their endowment from these free products are also matched. The MidwayUSA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity working to sustain and grow the shooting sports industry by providing long-term funding to youth shooting teams through annual cash grants. Every donation made is tax-deductible and allows the Foundation to assist in expanding and enhancing the leadership skills, confidence, and discipline of today’s youth through shooting sports activities. The Foundation supports all shooting disciplines.
