Elite Tactical XRS3 Riflescope WinsOn Target Magazine’s Editors’ Choice Award

Bushnell®, an industry leader in performance optics, is pleased to announce that its Elite Tactical XRS3 riflescope has been awarded an Editors’ Choice Award by On Target Magazine. The staff at On Target  praised the XRS3 for its highly effective G4P reticle, uncompromising optical quality and precise adjustments.

“Every year, we try to pick out the best of the best new products for On Target’s Editors’ Choice Awards, ones that demonstrate incredible technical achievement or value for the money,” said Ben Battles, editor of On Target. “The Elite Tactical XRS3 hits both of those criteria. This scope was designed for extreme long-range shooters with its outstanding optical quality and attention to detail inside and out, but the XRS3 also gives shooters some of the best value possible for this class of optic.”

The XRS3 6-36×56 FFP scope features the most advanced Elite Tactical optical system ever. The XRS3 comes with a high magnification ED Prime objective, as well as fully multi-coated elements, EXO Barrier™ protection and a proprietary G4P reticle with new reticle element coating. The new coating pushes the limits of the ultrawideband coating system by increasing light transmission by nearly 2% over previous designs.

This year, Elite Tactical is releasing an additional reticle, the EQL, for the XRS3. The new EQL is a 0.2 MIL grid developed to be fast and precise no matter the required hold or read. The wave-based hash system with intermediate floating and overlap dots is thinned and “opened up” where possible to reduce perceived complexity and target obstruction. Other features include main stadia integer floating dots, half value overlap dots and integral milling bar sections.

For more information on the XRS3 or to see the full lineup of Elite Tactical optics, check out Bushnell.com.

ISOtunes Sport CALIBER Review

ISOtunes Sport this week announced the latest extension of its line of high-tech electronic hearing protection with a Bluetooth wireless in-ear model. We have had a set of these for the last couple of weeks for testing. The CALIBER offers true wireless in-ear hearing protection for hunters, shooters and those who need protection from gunshot noises and hearing amplification.

Wireless In-Ear Hearing Protection

The CALIBER is a true hearing enhancement device as well as a Bluetooth device that works well with your phone. We had these in our ears for close to 48 hours on and off and the hearing enhancement was exceptional. I would recommend them for hunting based on that one fact alone. I could hear the squirrels running through the trees, the leaves rustling and even the tick, tick, tick of the my floorboard heater as it warmed up my office. The sound of the dog panting took me by surprise after letting her in from the yard after she chased the squirrel back up the tree.

The CALIBER will be great for on the range but also great in the tree stand during archery season. You will be able to hear the deer coming in with the 8x hearing enhancement. As well, you can listen to music on your phone or the latest video and even take a call. The hearing enhancement works even while on a call so no one is going to sneak up on you. The in-ear Bluetooth headset style is all the rage these days and the Tactical Sound Control technology amplifies natural sounds and reduces the sound of gunshot noise. The gunshot noise is shut off when a gun is fired with its ability to block 25 db of noise.

The CALIBER gives you 13 hours of use and shuts off after two hours to protect the power. The case recharges the device and the individual units are dustproof, sweatproof and waterproof. These can withstand submersion in water and come out working and ready to use. The Bluetooth will work up to 30 feet from the connected device. They come with a wide variety of Short TRILOGY™ Foam eartips ranging from sizes small to large, three pairs of Tall TRILOGY™ Foam eartips ranging from sizes small to large, one pair of silicone triple flange eartips, a charging case with a lanyard, and a USB – C charging cable.  I found the Tall TRILOGY small to be a perfect fit for my ears to get the coverage and feel like these were well seated in my ears.

The USB-C case is easy to charge, and with the lanyard it is easy to keep your hearing protection protected and in your pack ready to go when you need them. Upon pulling them out they are automatically on and ready to go and begin working quickly. They are easy to pair with Bluetooth, and I found them easy to use while making calls or listening to music.  They picked up my voice pretty well and while testing and listening to music I could clearly hear everything around me. On the range with the shotgun, I was able to hear the things going on around me with a significant reduction of sound.

Top Practical Items That Every Hunter Must Have

Hunting is one of the most challenging adventures a person can undertake.  This is why one must prepare the best one can. If you want to have a successful hunting trip, you must be equipped with not just some of the best hunting supplies but also some practical items that will help you around the woods and make your hunting experience a memorable one.

If you are new to hunting, there are many things that you need to know before you go out and hunt. One of the things new hunters should learn about is how to be prepared for anything and everything whether it’s on their hunting camp or out in the field hunting game. The following is a list of items that all hunters should have no matter what hunting game they are after.

Hunting Backpack

Hunting usually requires you to go through trials with the uneven ground making it difficult for you to carry your hunting gear – especially if you are hiking several miles into your hunting site.  A good quality hunting backpack will allow you to easily bring all the necessities that you need wherever you go. Of course, size depends on what type of hunting game you are after but it should be comfortable enough for extended use. You can also opt to use a hydration pack while on the move so you can easily replenish during long hikes. There are many great options when it comes to hunting backpacks so you should check out all the available options and buy the one that will suit your needs perfectly.

Hunting Binoculars

Sometimes when hunting animals like deer, spotting them from afar is not enough to ensure a successful hunt or stalk – they need to be within close range before taking a clean and precise shot. Binoculars can help you see animals from a distance and locate their exact position so you can take your shot without wasting too much time and energy trying to stalk them. There are small powerful binoculars available these days that hunters can easily bring along wherever they go. You should also have a good spotter with you to make sure that your shots will be accurate and of course, safe.

Hunting Knife

A good grip, sharp blade, and well-constructed knife are essential to every hunter.  Aside from helping you prepare your game for hunting, it will also be helpful around your camp or when faced with an emergency. It is important to know that bigger blades are useful in heavy-duty hunting such as skinning and quartering out your game. Since you will be doing a lot of cutting, make sure that it has a good grip so you can handle it well even when wet. The best handle materials for a hunting knife are wood or synthetic. It is also important that your knife can stay sharp even after being used to cut through thick animal hide and bones.

Factors to Consider When Buying a Beginner’s Hunting Rifle

While most people will often suggest buying the best rifle available, it’s important to account for the user’s marksmanship. Beginners may not be able to handle rifles that are meant for more experienced hunters. If you’re planning on acquainting yourself with hunting rifles, these are the things you need to consider when buying your first rifle.

Game Size

The first thing to base the type of rifle to buy should be the target you intend to hunt with your rifle. While it’s not impossible for beginners to hunt big game, it’s highly recommended that beginners hunt small game like jackrabbits and turkeys to develop both their aim and their hunting skills.

Since small game is incredibly fast, it’s much better to hunt with either an air rifle or a bolt-action rifle that has minimal recoil. If you intend to hunt big game, these are some rifles you may want to consider. These rifles are of higher caliber and they pack a lot more power, and have a lot more recoil. Be warned that these rifles are suited only for experienced hunters who have good aim. Due to the higher recoil, it’s going to be more difficult to recenter your shot should you miss.

Budget

Hunting may not be for everyone, and unless you’re completely set on making hunting a hobby, beginners are advised to avoid spending large amounts of money on a rifle because there’s still a chance that they may not continue with their hunting hobby. A budget of $300 to $500 is optimal for a beginner’s rifle as rifles within this price range already come with a synthetic stock, which are lightweight and durable. This helps with accuracy and ease of aiming. Only purchase better rifles when you’ve honed the skill to match their caliber.

Accuracy

Accuracy refers to the ability of a rifle to hit the same spot repeatedly. The smaller the spread of your shots in a grouping, the more accurate the weapon is. It’s going to be very difficult for beginners to gauge the accuracy of a rifle that they’re about to purchase, as they’ve likely never held a rifle before. The best measure to determine whether a rifle is accurate or not is to ask those who have already handled the rifle as they have in-field experience of how the rifle actually performs.

A .22 Caliber Rifle

Most sources will recommend that beginners get a .22 caliber rifle as their first weapon. This is sound advice because .22 caliber rifles like the AR-15 Rifle are versatile enough that they can be used to hunt small to medium-sized game. Hunters tend to retain their .22 caliber rifles even after they’ve gained more hunting experience, as it will serve you well in the long-term.

CZ-USA Introduces Bobwhite G2 Shotguns for Lefties and Smaller Shooters

The Bobwhite G2 Southpaw and Bobwhite G2 Intermediate are purpose-built and feature-rich

CZ-USA is proud to introduce two new affordable side-by-side purpose-built double guns. Both are an extension of the popular Bobwhite G2 shotgun line: the Bobwhite G2 Intermediate, with dimensions that are a little more compact, and the Bobwhite G2 Southpaw, designed for left-handed shotgunners.

Left-handed shooters always face difficulties when shooting guns cast for right-handed people, but there is a new double gun option from CZ-USA that will make things a bit easier for lefty shotgunners.

CZ is proud to expand its lefty-friendly offerings with the Bobwhite G2 Southpaw side-by-side. Nearly identical to the standard Bobwhite G2, the Southpaw’s stock is “cast on,” meaning it’s bent in the opposite direction so that it will properly fit when a shooter brings it to their left shoulder.

All other popular Bobwhite G2 features remain, including its CNC’d receiver, double triggers, English-style straight grip, and interchangeable choke tubes. It features 28-inch barrels and includes five flush chokes from Cylinder to Full in 12 or 20 gauge with an incredible price point of $709.

State Record Seatrout Gobbles Z-Man® ElaZtech® Bait

Scented Jerk ShadZ™ and HeadlockZ HD™ Jighead shatters 61-year-old NC record

Todd Spangler’s morning started off with one big bite—and a tidal wave of high-fives. Approximately 8am on Wednesday, February 9, Spangler hooked a new North Carolina state record spotted seatrout—the biggest of the species landed on hook and line in 61 years. A few hours after officially weighing the monster inshore specimen, Spangler and his friend Josh Hamby returned to the water for a few more casts.

A phosphate miner and veteran inshore saltwater angler from Merritt, North Carolina, Spangler hooked the 12-pound 8-ounce seatrout on a 4-inch Z-Man Scented Jerk ShadZ and 1/8-ounce HeadlockZ HD  jighead. The record-breaking trout, which measured 33-1/2-inches with an 18-inch girth, bested the previous, six-decade-old state record caught at Wrightsville Beach by four ounces.

“It was our first bite of the day,” recalls Spangler, who was fishing a creek mouth on the Neuse River when something cracked his ‘Dark N Stormy’ pattern Jerk ShadZ. “I’d been retrieving the bait by popping it up and letting it fall back to the bottom—trying to imitate a shrimp—when I felt a sharp little thump, almost right below the boat. My initial thought was that it struck like a smaller trout, but when I felt the big head shakes and screaming drag, my buddy and I thought we’d hooked a sizeable striped bass.

“A few minutes into the fight, we saw a broad silvery flash, which further fooled us into thinking striper,” Spangler said. “This time of year, we’re mostly targeting seatrout, which bunch up in big numbers in these creeks during the winter. We often catch redfish and stripers, too, but striper season is closed.”

NEXEN TIRE PARTNERS WITH ANIMAL RESCUE RIGS PROVIDING RELIABLE TRACTION IN TOUGH TERRAIN

– Animal Rescue Rigs selects Nexen Tire’s Roadian MTX Xtreme Off-Road Tires for “PAWS ONE” Animal Recovery Vehicle –

Nexen Tire America, Inc., a worldwide leader in high-performance, passenger, SUV/light truck and winter tire technology, has partnered with Animal Rescue Rigs (ARR), an animal-rescue 501(c)(3) charity, to supply the company’s most capable off-road tire for PAWS ONE, a highly modified 2018 Nissan TITAN XD Gas PRO-4X which debuted at the 2018 Specialty Equipment Manufacturer Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas. PAWS ONE features 35-inch Nexen Tire Roadian MTX Xtreme Off-Road tires and was built to provide support for securing lost and/or injured animals during and after natural disasters. Rescuers are required to cover virtually all terrain types and need a tire with maximum traction across multiple driving surfaces, including on- and off-road, often in muddy and snowy conditions. With massive winter storms sweeping the nation, first responders have battled high winds, frigid temperatures and snowstorms to provide rescue services. PAWS ONE stands ready to help stranded animals that end up in similar situations.

“Nexen Tire believes in Animal Rescue Rigs’ mission, and we are proud to fully support them in anyway we can,” said Brian YoonSeok Han, CEO of Nexen Tire America, Inc. “We fully understand natural disasters can happen at a moment’s notice, and rescuers need to have the best equipment to respond quickly and safely. Having tires capable of tackling nearly any terrain, like the Roadian MTX, allows first responders to answer the call and provide critical rescue services when it matters most.”

Nik Miles, chairman of the board for Animal Rescue Rigs, firmly believes in the expanded capability provided to PAWS ONE by the Roadian MTX Xtreme Off-Road tires.

“PAWS ONE is truly a comprehensive, purpose-built vehicle offering plenty of rescue capabilities. However, one thing the build really needed was a capable tire. Our mission is to assist animals, no matter where they may be – and if we don’t have the equipment needed to reach them because of traction limitations, we can’t complete the mission. Thanks to our Roadian MTX tires, we’re confident PAWS ONE will tackle virtually any terrain when called into service,” said Miles.
