Before joining TWA, Justin spent seven years with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department where he served as the Private Lands and Public Hunting Program Director. He is a Certified Wildlife Biologist with a bachelors and master’s degree from Texas A&M University. He and his wife Rachael live in Austin, TX with their daughters June and Jill.

Founded in 1985, TWA represents the interests of private landowners and hunters and provides conservation education to youth and adults around the state.

David Lange, 54, of Glen Rock, N.J., is number one – in fact, he’s number one three times over.

A talented marksman, Lange holds five Distinguished Badges: Pistol (2001), .22 EIC Pistol (2015) and Rifle (2018), along with his new Air Pistol and Service Revolver Badges he claimed in 2022. Three of those (Air Pistol, Service Revolver and .22 EIC) were Badge #1s.

Distinguished Badges are the highest individual award authorized by the U. S. Government for excellence in marksmanship competition. He also earned spots on the National Matches President’s 100 in both pistol and rifle in 2021. Additionally, he has set several individual national records and was a firing member of a record-setting team.

774-acre Bobwhite Hills WMA expands quail habitat and public access in South Carolina

Quail Forever’s Build a Wildlife Area® Program is proud to announce the acquisition of the 774-acre Bobwhite Hills Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Lee and Sumter Counties, South Carolina. The property, featuring longleaf pine savannah in the heart of the northern bobwhite’s southeastern region, was officially dedicated today amongst an enthusiastic group of partners and supporters. Quail Forever is currently working with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) to create a management and access plan incorporating objectives for hunting, wildlife viewing, hiking, and ecological research.

Bobwhite Hills WMA marks the first property Quail Forever has acquired east of the Mississippi River and located within the renowned Southeast region of the quail range where the historical relevance of bird hunting has deep ties. Likewise, this purchase provides a major lift to quail hunting prospects in The Palmetto State. “This acquisition will double the number of opportunities for public draw hunts for quail in South Carolina,” said Michael Hook, Small Game Program Leader at SCDNR.  Public hunting opportunities will commence in the 2023-2024 season due to existing leases on the property.

The sprawling property abuts a 2,000-acre leased Wildlife Management Area and is a focal point of the USDA NRCS – South Carolina Longleaf Pine Initiative, the National Bobwhite Conservation Initiative, and is identified as a medium priority focus area of the South Carolina Conservation Bank, a major contributing partner to the property’s successful purchase.

“The bobwhite quail is an iconic game bird that even as populations declined, continued to bring together generations of sportsmen and women,” commented Raleigh West, executive director, South Carolina Conservation Bank. “The acquisition of Bobwhite Hills represents not only an opportunity to grow the native quail populations, but also it sets a backdrop for continuing our state’s rich sporting traditions.”

Team Winchester member Zach Kienbaum was recently inducted into the 2022 National Sporting Clay Association (NSCA) Hall of Fame — an honor bestowed on only the greatest competitors in the history of the shooting sports. Native to California, Zach began shooting in 1990 with his dad at a local club, River Road Sporting Clays. He’s reached the podium at the National Sporting Clay Association (NSCA) Nationals for the last five years in a row, including two championships in 2018 and 2019.

20-Year Agreement Paves Way for National Wild Turkey Federation to help Reduce Wildfire Risk, Promote Healthy Forests and Wildlife Habitat

EDGEFIELD, S.C. — Today, the Biden-Harris Administration announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service and the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) have signed a landmark 20-year national master stewardship agreement.

This first-of-its-kind agreement paves the way for these partner organizations to work together to address the wildfire crisis in the West and promote healthy forests across the U.S. It also includes an initial $50 million commitment from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law as well as regular agency appropriations and other sources.

“This agreement reflects our strong, long-standing relationship with the National Wild Turkey Federation and its four decades of forest restoration work on national forests and grasslands,” USDA Forest Service Chief Randy Moore said. “Larger wildfires, more frequent natural disasters, and other disturbances that continue to threaten the health of the nation’s forests and grasslands, and the wildlife habitat they provide, means the work we do together is even more vital.”  

When Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the Forest Service’s wildfire crisis strategy at the beginning of this year, the NWTF began to identify areas where they could assist. Using funding made possible by this agreement, the NWTF will develop regional projects to protect communities, reduce wildfire risk, and improve forest health, wildlife habitat, and water quality on national forests and grasslands.
