The CelluCORE 20 Solar combines the reliability and image quality of the CelluCORE 20 with an integrated solar panel to dramatically increase battery life. This camera includes a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and can maintain a full charge for up to 70 images per day with four to six hours of direct sunlight.

“We’re always looking for ways to help hunters get more use from their cameras without having to disturb hunting spots,” said Jason Harris, director of marketing and product management at Primos Hunting. “Integrating a solar panel is a simple, effective way to extend overall battery life allowing owners to get more time from their cameras all season long.”

C’Mon and Gear up for Dove Season

America’s most hunted game bird, the dove, makes its way southward as the long hot summer days begin to wane. Dove season celebrates the promise of autumn and fall’s bounty. For many hunters, dove season brings the fellowship of shared stubble fields, partners sitting on buckets overlooking fields of sunflower, and the season’s first dog work.

While finding a shady spot on a cut field’s edge or tucking away behind sunflower stalks may seem like one of the simplest forms of hunting, dove season brings a few challenges: proper hunting clothing can help. Beating the heat with quick drying material and choosing garments that move and flex helps hunters stay comfortable in the field and be more successful.

A simple camouflage pattern with mixed drab greens & browns like Mossy Oak’s Migrate or Shadow Leaf is extremely effective at keeping hunters hidden from incoming doves. Implementing a successful camo pattern onto comfortable, quick-drying fabrics is the ultimate goal for dove hunting this fall.

September’s warm days and sometimes sweltering humidity can put the heat to dove season. The folks at Nomad understand the importance of staying comfortable and beating the heat when it comes to warm weather hunting; their lineup of warm weather camo shirts will have you covered this fall and pull double duty next spring.

NOAA awards $18.9M for harmful algal bloom research, monitoring

NOAA is announcing $18.9 million in funding for harmful algal bloom (HAB) research projects and monitoring activities throughout U.S. coastal and Great Lakes waters.

HABs can produce toxins or cause other harmful effects that can damage ecosystems, disrupt our seafood supply, impact economies and threaten human health. Marine and fresh waters of the U.S. are increasingly impacted by HABs, with blooms reported in every state. They cost the U.S. economy millions of dollars each year, and costs from a single major HAB event can reach tens of millions of dollars.

Investments in these projects represent a coordinated effort between NOAA’s National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS) and the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) Office within NOAA’s National Ocean Service to advance our nation’s ability to observe, monitor, forecast and manage blooms. NOAA’s Ocean Acidification Program (OAP), under NOAA’s Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research, has also partnered with NCCOS to advance understanding of interactions between acidification and HABs in coastal waters and the Great Lakes.

NCCOS has allocated $16.1 million to fund harmful algal bloom research in fiscal year 2022, including $3.3 million for six new research awards, $10.4 million for 23 continuing awards and $2.4 million for two Community-Directed Spending projects. Four of the new competitive research awards are funded in partnership with NOAA’s OAP. Funded projects will determine interactions between HABs and ocean acidification; establish a U.S. Harmful Algal Bloom Control Technology Incubator; enhance detection of toxins and improve forecasts; and investigate the social and economic impacts of harmful algae.

“Harmful algal blooms and ocean acidification are two issues that impact coastal resources and we need to understand how they interact,” said David Kidwell, director of NOAA’s NCCOS Competitive Research Program. “In addition to better detection methods, we want to continue the development of technologies for controlling HABs, and enhance and improve our forecasting and monitoring abilities. These grants will help with those goals.”

Tooth-tough DoormatadorZ baits outlast Alaskan halibut

“Everyone thinks halibut just sort of sit on the bottom like a doormat, sulking and waiting for a meal to swim along,” remarks Z-Man pro angler Miles “Sonar” Burghoff. “But when you watch ‘em on an underwater camera, you quickly discover these eccentric fish are anything but bottom feeders. In fact, they’re one of the coolest predators you’ll ever encounter—and if you want to experience an incredible halibut bite, amp up your approach with multifaceted ElaZtech® baits.”

Recently, during his eighteenth Alaskan fishing expedition—including many years as a fishing guide— the Tennessee based bass ace employed a rapid-fire halibut-catching program that tapped the species’ little-known affinity to hunt the open seas.

“We put an underwater camera down there, and all we saw were halibut cruising around, actively swimming well above the ocean floor,” Burghoff recalled. “Made me realize these fish are much more of a predator than they are a sedentary bottom feeder. We catch ‘em all the time while trolling for salmon. I believe they’re sight feeders first, though they certainly rely on scent to find prey, as well. Heck, we’ve had big halibut swim up 100 feet just to strike a trolled lure.”

Drifting over deepwater halibut terrain, Burghoff noted that most anglers—including those in his own fishing party—typically deploy cut herring and squid. “But I think it’s way more fun—and efficient—to actively jig with a DoormatadorZ—a super soft and lively, yet exceptionally durable ElaZtech bait designed specifically for big halibut and flounder,” he believes. “The bait’s big chunky twister tail never stops pulsing, thumping; even a bit of tidal current can activate the bait’s tail, which also helps distribute its potent scent.”

Slayer Enchantress Elk Call Review

I first learned how to call elk in 2003, though I have never been very good at calling elk. I sound like a ratty young spike at best, but sometimes that really weak sounding satellite bull is a little more agonizing to a worked up bull than sounding like a big herd bull. I have had enough success with this method that I will probably keep it around for the time being. At the moment, I am much more interested in becoming a better turkey caller and duck caller than worrying about elk. The great news is that the Enchantress Elk Call from Slayer Game Calls is super easy to learn.

I have spent some serious time filming some of the best elk callers in the world. I love watching techniques in the field with guides. I have always been bothered that I could not do what they do; specifically I could not put a reed call into my mouth without an immediate gag reflex. I could never get past it. I made every attempt to overcome this including trimming and cutting down dozens of reeds to try and make them work always to same conclusion. No bueno.

Slayer created the Enchantress Elk Call to be a true external all-in-one call that is easy to learn and create realistic elk sounds. The Enchantress is a push call which has an internal reed with a silicone cover that works like a rubber “tongue” to compress the reed and pull out high pitch tones with the call. To work this call you use your thumb nail to compress the button and create the sounds. Slayer produced a great video with Cody McCarthy, Slayer’s head of product innovation. Operating the Enchantress, and tips on how to use the Enchantress are great videos to help you get started on using this call. The external call attaches to the Swagger bugle tube which allows the bugle tube to draw out more lifelike bull sounds. This method is easy to pull it off the bugle to mimic the sounds of cow elk.  We like that Slayer donates 10% of each purchase to organizations working to protect wildlife, the environment, and support conservation efforts, all of which ultimately protect our hunting heritage. If you cannot use a reed (or even if you can), this is a call worth purchasing. The Swagger Bugle Tube is exceptional for reed callers ,so you can have one call or many.  WIN/WIN.

Which Type of Gun Powder is Best for my Rifle?

Many gun powders are being sold in the market. Although none of the gun powders are bad, some types of powders are more efficient and versatile than others. Some of the great powders that can cover many needs of reloaders include:

Hodgdon CFE BLK

This is a spherical reloading powder that burns very fast and is new in the market. The CFE BLK is a good powder option for reloaders of the .300 AAC Blackout because they can use it at all bullet weights. Some of these bullet weights include the subsonic 200-grain plus bullets and light 110-grain bullets.

The CFE BLK is dense. Therefore, it can potentially fit a lot into a small case. Therefore, if there is an issue of case capacity, this spherical powder can deliver more velocity numbers because it can pack more in the case.
