CMP Announces New Corporation Mission and Vision

To better reflect its Nationwide responsibility for marksmanship excellence, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) has updated its mission and vision.

While the previous mission and vision have served the CMP well, the recent change in corporate leadership led by new Board Chair and CEO Jerry O’Keefe, provided an opportunity to renew the direction of the organization through its core values.

“When there are significant changes to an organization, a Mission/Vision review is prudent,” said O’Keefe, who assumed the chair role in September 2022. “In CMP’s case, the organization has grown significantly since the previous mission and vision were determined, and CMP is poised for additional growth. These two things in combination made it the perfect time to conduct this review.”

“New leadership often brings new ideas and a new focus that might result in a change,” O’Keefe went on. “Especially to the Vision.”

C’Mon Cold Front Whitetail Hunting Nomad’s Cottonwood Fleece Collection

Big game hunters know that cold fronts and frosty weather get game moving. When the temperatures drop, whitetails will make tracks to their favorite food source and pack in the calories to try and stay warm.

Taking advantage of cold weather hunting days puts both hunters and gear to the test. At Nomad, they recognize the need to be in the game when the mercury drops and the hunting heats up. Nomad’s Cottonwood hunting camo collection is designed to keep hunters warm and comfortable during long sits in frigid temps.

Nomad Cottonwood NXT Jacket –

Give cold weather a bear hug. The Cottonwood NXT Jacket features a high pile sherpa fleece exterior that’s ultra-quiet and water resistant. Along with a wind/water-resistant mid-layer and high pile “teddybear” fleece interior, it is warm enough for those cold late-season hunts. Because we designed it for comfort in the cold, the Cottonwood NXT Jacket features a contoured offset zipper that doesn’t bundle up when sitting and allows for a big ol’ kangaroo pocket to keep your mitts warm. Gusseted underarms allow unrestricted movement, and the safety harness port directs the tether out of the way. Keep essentials handy in the vertical chest pocket and midsection rangefinder pocket.

Choice Hunting Spots in the Mississippi Delta

Hunting is among the oldest activities of humans. Traditionally, hunting was the only source of animal proteins. Though some communities still live this way, today’s hunting is more of a hobby than a means of living.

Hunting is deeply ingrained in American culture, with millions of Americans practicing it yearly. According to statistics, hunters’ spending generates approximately $185 million daily into the economy.

An enjoyable hunting experience starts with finding the best spots for hunting. If you are in Mississippi or intend to visit for a hunt, this guide has spots you will want to check out in the Mississippi Delta.

Public Lands

The Mississippi lower delta region has no shortage of public hunting grounds. There are seven National Wildlife Refuges, the national delta forest, and seven wildlife management areas, with every area having unique hunting rules and entrance fees.

All public lands will require a hunting permit before you can go hunting, so you may want to confirm the requirements and limitations for every public hunting ground before planning your hunting trip to ensure you don’t get inconvenienced.

TRY KEEPING UP WITH THE FAST AND FRIENDLY BRASS RIFLE AND PISTOL BRASS COLLATOR

The Smoothest and Fastest Gravity Fed Brass Collator Available Anywhere

Farmington, MO – Fast and Friendly Brass, a premier brand in tooling and processing equipment and supplies for optimal efficiency in brass loading and reloading, has the ultimate solution for collating your rifle and pistol brass for ammo loading automation.

“This collator, to our knowledge, is the only commercially available collator that can keep up with the Fast and Friendly Brass Qualifier, or the Bitterroot Machine Off Press Brass Primer,” said Bill Birmingham, Owner of Fast and Friendly Brass. “Other collators jam and end up slowing down the reloading process. That inefficiency just doesn’t work for us, so we developed a collator that can keep up, and maintain a smooth operation for hours on end.”

Each Fast and Friendly Brass Brass Collator is ready to roll. Choose from several options, depending upon your needs. Pick from the Standard Rifle for 5.56/.223 Brass, (.300 Blackout with free conversion kit). Or go big with the .308/30-06 with our Large Rifle Turntable. Load .380/9mm with the Small Pistol Turntable, or go .40 S&W up to .45 Long Colt with the Large Pistol Turntable. The Brass Collator can be ordered for any of these options and can easily be converted to other calibers (Sm/Lg Rifle, Sm/Lg Pistol) with available conversion kits.

The Brass Collator has a 16-inch diameter bowl and can collate between 12,000 to 13,400 pieces per hour with 5.56/.223 or pistol calibers. Pistol calibers can collate at up to 15,000 pieces per hour. Yeah, it’s that fast. It will run virtually jam free due to the means of collation, and can work with just about any brass that you have available. An electronic control box is able to detect jams and will stop the collator, preventing equipment wear and tear. The Collator runs on a 1/8 HP motor that has more than enough power to run the process and yet it draws a scant 1.6 amps. We firmly believe this collator will speed up your production. For more information, go to Fast &Friendly Brass website.

Enjoying a Hike: Tips and Tricks from Experienced Hikers

If you’re going out on a hike, you don’t want to leave unprepared! Even the smallest things can make a world of difference when it comes to hiking, and we’re here to help.

We rounded up a panel of hiking experts and enthusiasts and summed up their thoughts on the most important factors you need to pay attention to when going out on a hike.

So here are some tips and tricks to help you make the most of your hike.

Make sure you have the right gear: Depending on the hike you’re going on, you’ll need different gear. Make sure you have plenty of water, a map, and appropriate clothing and hiking boots for the weather.Start out early in the day: This will help you avoid crowds and give you time to enjoy the scenery. The best time to get up for a hike is at dawn, when the air is fresh and the light is beautiful.Take your time: Don’t try to hurry through your hike. Enjoy the peace and quiet of nature, and take time to smell the flowers!Be aware of your surroundings: Especially if you’re hiking alone, it’s important to be aware of your surroundings at all times. Keep an eye out for potential dangers, such as wildlife or slippery rocks.Watch your step: This seems like a no-brainer, but it’s easy to get distracted while you’re enjoying the view. Pay attention to where you’re walking, and watch out for roots or other obstacles in your path.Be prepared for changes in weather: The weather can change quickly in mountainous areas, so it’s important to be prepared. Bring extra layers of clothing, and be prepared for cold nights even if it’s warm during the day.Enjoy the experience: This is probably the most important tip of all! Hiking is supposed to be enjoyable, so make sure you take the time to appreciate the beauty of nature and the peace of being in the great outdoors.

Things You Need in Your Backpack When Going Hiking

We have also rounded up a backpacking checklist of sorts to make sure you don’t forget anything important when packing for your hike!

Water: You can never have too much water when hiking, especially in hot weather. Make sure you have a water bottle or hydration pack, and fill it up before you head out.Food: Bring along snacks or a meal, depending on how long you’ll be hiking. High-energy snacks like nuts or granola bars are good for short hikes, while sandwiches or pasta dishes are better for longer treks.Clothing: Layering is key when it comes to clothing. You’ll want a mix of warm and cool weather clothes, as well as rain gear in case of bad weather.Maps: A map is essential if you’re hiking in unfamiliar territory. Make sure you know where you’re going before you set out, and bring a map just in case.First Aid Kit: You never know when you might need a bandage or some antiseptic cream. A small first aid kit can be a lifesaver on a hike.Sunscreen: Don’t forget to pack sunscreen, even if it’s not sunny! The sun can be deceptively strong, and you don’t want to get burned.Hat: A hat will protect you from the sun and keep your head warm in cold weather. Choose one that’s comfortable and won’t blow off in the wind.Trekking Poles: Trekking poles can be a big help when hiking, especially if you’re going uphill or downhill. They take some of the strain off your legs and help you keep your balance.Flashlight: A flashlight is always a good idea, even if you’re hiking during the day. You never know when you might need it, and it’s better to be safe than sorry.Camera: Don’t forget to bring a camera so you can capture the memories of your hike!

How To Choose The Best Hunting Knife

A good hunting knife can perform all the typical hunter requires, including skinning an animal and cutting through its ribs and bone. Hunting knives have a value that goes beyond what they can do in the wild. They’re also mementos that are passed from one generation to the next. It’s one reason to ensure your purchase of a new hunting knife is prudent. If properly maintained, a high-quality knife will serve you well while you go hunting and last for a very long time. Here are some things to consider before purchasing your first or next hunting knife.

Determine Intended Use

It’s critical to consider both the intended application and the kind of game you intend to hunt when selecting a hunting knife. A hunter for a big game will use a different kind of knife than a hunter for smaller game. Furthermore, it would be incorrect to assume that bigger is all the time better. An overly big knife can make the cleaning up harder and might result to self-cutting.

If you’re searching for a knife that will do one specific duty well, such as skinning bison, you need to buy a specialized knife created with a specific function in mind. If you purchase a specialty knife to use as a multi-purpose tool, it may not be able to handle all the activities you throw at it. So, always choose a design most suited for the tasks you intend to use the knife.

Pick A Blade

Blades come in a variety of designs, and which one you choose depends on your preferences and the kinds of game you generally hunt. Blades come in three basic varieties: clip point, drop point, and skinning blade.

The blade of a clip-point knife is narrow and has a distinct tip. The blade is remarkably flat. You can use this knife for regular camp duties and hunting tasks, such as field dressing and skinning. A clip-point blade is an excellent option for the hunter who needs a good all-purpose knife.

Tom Beckbe Tensaw Jacket Review

I needed a jacket that I could wear around respectable people on hunts.  I am spending more and more time with uplanders and dog folks chasing birds, and I needed a jacket that could go from field to dinner and hold its own in finer conditions as well as in the field.  Chasing pheasants, grouse and quail with Miko is giving me more opportunity to hunt with people versus the last several years where a majority of my efforts have all been solo hunting trips in heavy camo.  I also wanted a jacket that would someday get handed down to one of my kids kind of like one of the jackets I had from my father that has now been passed down to the oldest grandson in our family.

Waxed shelter cloth jackets have been around for well over a hundred years.  Tom Beckbe has created their version of a quality waxed shelter cloth jacket for the uplander at heart.  The Tensaw jacket is really made for Southern quail hunters.  It is heavy waxed cloth, but not an insulated jacket.  So while it keeps the wind and moisture out and off your body, it does not insulate well in extreme temperatures.  Honestly, this is exactly why I wanted it.  Often times, I want to layer up my clothes with merino wool layers, a flannel shirt, sometimes a wool sweater or fleece and then the Tensaw jacket depending on the temperatures I experience while hunting.  This is a pretty great jacket to throw on when the wind is whipping up a storm.

Waxed cloth takes a little bit of care to keep it in great condition.  A tin of reproofing wax is only $4.50 and holds 1.5 oz.  If you are buying the Tensaw jacket, it is important to just add the wax to your order because why not.  Keeping dry and worn areas of your jacket ready and covered in wax when needed is just a part of your maintenance, just like keeping a great pair of leather boots covered in mink oil.

The Tensaw jacket is a shell that will patina over time.  Like great copper, it looks better the more you use it.  This jacket allows a full-range of motion with a bi-swing back and gusseted underarms.  The large front pockets allow for great storage, and the hand warmer pockets are outstanding.  The hidden Napoleon pockets are perfect for your cellphone.  This jacket is made in the USA. Tom Beckbe is making gear “FOR THE HUNT.”  The company is six years old and already they are creating pieces of gear that will stand the test of time.

Of course, we have an affiliate relationship with Tom Beckbe to help all of our readers get product. Thank you for supporting our website.

Mule Deer Foundation Funds 45 Projects, Leverages Funding for a Total of $8.8 Million for Deer Conservation

The Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) announced today that it has allocated over $560,000 of Chapter Rewards funds for 45 conservation projects so far this year. Those funds were leveraged or matched by partner dollars for a total of $8.8 million to benefit habitat conservation, hunting and access, research, and wildlife management in 11 western states. The revenues were generated by local chapter banquets and state-based fundraisers, raffles, or other MDF efforts.

“Our chapters and regional directors work hard to raise funds to put back on the ground in their state, and the Mule Deer Foundation’s Chapter Rewards program plays a critical role in supporting these projects,” said MDF President/CEO Joel Pedersen. “Over a half million dollars was allocated so far this year, which was leveraged by more than $8 million more, for projects like fencing conversions, guzzler installations, habitat restoration work, and mule deer research projects. Those that support MDF should know their donations are making a difference.”

Mule Deer Foundation chapters host events during the year that bring together people who care about mule deer conservation and hunting in the West. The funds raised at the events help support MDF’s mission delivery through broad conservation initiatives as well as targeted projects through the Chapter Rewards program. Highlights of projects funded include the acquisition of 200 acres in the Century Heights North mule deer winter range in Idaho, a pinyon-juniper removal project in Nevada, annual invasive plant species treatments, over 30 miles of wildlife-friendly fencing work, wildlife gate installation to ease deer and other wildlife movement across highways, and much more. Of the 45 projects, there were 20 habitat conservation projects and 18 wildlife management projects, along with others that support research, access, and youth outdoors opportunities.

“MDF’s members care about our mission and support the organization knowing that their donations and participation are helping with mule and black-tailed deer conservation efforts,” said Marshall Johnson, MDF’s Director of Field Operations. “It’s great to see the hard work of our chapters and MDF staff paying it forward to the wildlife and hunting traditions that our members cherish.”

About MDF
The Mule Deer Foundation is the only conservation group in North America dedicated to restoring, improving, and protecting mule deer and black-tailed deer and their habitat, with a focus on science and program efficiency. MDF is a strong voice for hunters in access, wildlife management and conservation policy issues. MDF acknowledges regulated hunting as a viable management component and is committed to recruitment and retention of youth into the shooting sports and conservation. “We are proud to announce our new series, ‘La Revolución,’” said Simon Khiabani, owner and founder of SK Customs®. “‘Pancho Villa’ marks the first pistol in the limited-edition production run of only 300 full size Colt 19ll chambered in 38 Super. Along with an engraved depiction of The Monument to the Revolution in Mexico City, the side is completed with the general’s Army, known as “División del Norte,” holding a banner with Pancho Villa’s iconic phrase, “Fusílenlo, Después Averiguamos,” translated as “Shoot him, we’ll find out later.”

The coat of arms Free and Sovereign State of Durango emblem, engraved with “REVOLUCION,” decorate the right side of the “Pancho Villa.” Selective coverage of a Cannas floral scroll with frosted shadowing border a right profile design of the general fearlessly galloping into battle. Where No Boat Has Gone Before

Fresh off an epic season, kayak-angling legend Drew Gregory opens the knowledge vault

Drew Gregory is the first to admit his stealth-like, away-from-the-crowds approach to kayak angling is becoming something of an exception to the sport’s early culture. It’s an interesting twist of irony: That a game created to give anglers access to wild, remote fishing spots has lately trended toward the high tech. Yet while fellow competitors on the national kayak circuits increasingly lean on live sonar and kayak-mounted motors to reach offshore structure and deepwater bass, Gregory often clings to his people-powered, small-boat roots, paddling way up coves, feeder creeks and skinny backwater bays that rarely harbor human encroachment.

Winner of the last three Bassmaster Kayak Series tournaments and the 2022 Angler of the Year title, Gregory’s performances have been off the charts, almost literally. His most recent win at Pickwick Lake, Tennessee showcased Drew-isms aplenty. Paddling way—and we mean way!—

up a feeder creek in his self-designed Crescent Kayaks Shoalie, Gregory slung a variety of Z-Man® baits. Chief among them, a CrossEyeZ Power Finesse Jig  with a Pro CrawZ trailer anchored 175.5-inches of largemouth bass, besting second place angler Guillermo Gonzalez by 8-inches. Also noteworthy was the inventive way he fished the GOAT ToadZ surface bait (stay tuned).

But before spilling the beans, Gregory cleared the record on how he reached his tourney-winning location—another among those ‘special, remote places’ he prefers.

Does it matter what type of ammo you use?

Yes, it does.

But let’s talk more!

The type of ammo you use can have an effect on the performance of your gun. For example, using a lighter bullet in a lighter gun can result in more muzzle energy and less felt recoil. Conversely, using a heavier bullet in a heavier gun can result in less muzzle energy and more felt recoil.

So, if you’re looking to maximize performance, it’s important to It really depends on what you’re using the ammo for. If you’re just plinking around at cans or paper targets, then it really doesn’t matter what type of ammo you use. However, if you’re using the ammo for self-defense or hunting, then it definitely matters what type of ammo you use.

For self-defense, you want to use ammunition that will penetrates through flesh and bone. For hunting, you want to use ammunition that will expand upon impact and cause as much damage as possible. Also, for both self-defense and hunting, you want to use ammunition that is reliable and won’t jam in your gun.

By targeting return on investment at a sub-field scale, Michna will help define areas to explore alternative agricultural practices, voluntary conservation programs, cost-share and other funding opportunities to increase profits and success for a producer’s operation. The end goal of this position is to offer habitat-based solutions including soil health, water quality, carbon sequestration and rural economic development while maintaining high farm revenues.

“The Habitat Organization is excited and proud to collaborate with the great programs and people at Cotton Incorporated, United Sorghum Checkoff Program, and BASF Agricultural Solutions in this effort to promote farm profitability along with conservation initiatives,” Director of Sustainability Partnerships for Quail Forever Brent Rudolph said. “Texas Panhandle cotton and sorghum growers are committed to supporting a healthy environment and bright economic future for their families and communities, and quail, pheasants, and other wildlife will benefit from our efforts to work together here.”

The addition of a Texas-based precision specialist adds further momentum to Quail Forever’s collaborative agricultural initiatives to deliver sustainability outcomes. Starting in 2019, the Cotton Sustainability & Quail Recovery Project in cooperation with Cotton Incorporated set the table for innovation in the commodity sector. Since that time, the Sorghum for Birds initiative with the United Sorghum Checkoff Program and the recent national sponsorship announcement with BASF Agricultural Solutions have positively transformed Quail Forever’s grower relationships in focal regions for upland birds.

“This program is a great opportunity for sorghum and cotton producers in Texas. The collaboration aims to help farmers apply production data and precision ag technologies to identify less profitable acres and create biodiverse habitats,” Chief Sustainability Officer and Vice President for Cotton Incorporated Jesse Daystar said. “The project outcomes will benefit the environment and native bird species surrounding cotton farmland while helping producers increase profitability.”

Traction Innovation Headlines Korkers Winter 2022 Collection

Korkers, the award-winning outdoor footwear brand, is proud to introduce several new winter footwear styles debuting this fall.  The new Men’s and Women’s Alpine Chelsea, Women’s NorthLake Zip, Women’s SouthLake, Neo Arctic, and Neo Storm rubber boots highlight Korkers Fall 2022 assortment.

“When it comes to navigating winter weather, there are three critical elements that consumers require from their footwear which are keeping the foot dry, keeping the foot warm, and providing solid traction in slick conditions,” says CEO Brian Chaney.  “Generally, our competitors can keep people dry and warm, but they fall short when it comes to providing solid traction on snow and ice. Korkers proprietary OmniTrax® Interchangeable Sole System allows consumers to quickly and easily change soles to maximize grip and traction.  Our system is very similar to adding studded tires to your car during the winter, but performance soles can be changed in just a few seconds, making our boots and shoes incredibly versatile.  In addition, when soles wear down over time and begin to lose their original traction performance, they can be easily replaced with no downtime extending the life of your footwear” continued Chaney.

A variety of new winter boot and shoe types featuring Korkers OmniTrax® System will debut at specialty dealers across North America starting this October.  From casual Men’s and Women’s 6-inch slip-on Chelsea styles to 8mm ultra-warm neoprene Men’s and Women’s styles, Korkers new range covers a large range of winter footwear needs.
