SPYPOINT FLEX Trail Camera Review

I have to be honest, I am not the biggest trail camera user in the country. The last time I used a trail camera it was not even a cellular trail camera. There was something about heading out to the field to pick up used cards and dropping in new ones, then coming home and dropping those cards into my laptop with some cheap card reader that sometimes works. The world is changing, and this year I am changing along with it starting with the FLEX Trail Camera.

What makes the SPYPOINT FLEX Trail Camera Unique?

The SPYPOINT FLEX’s dual SIM cards are a game changer on this camera. They allow the system to automatically find the carrier with the strongest signal in remote areas. I hunt ranch land in Nebraska, and the signal on my cell phone can go from strong all the way to weak to non-existent depending on the day or even the direction of the wind. I honestly don’t understand it because sitting in a blind on a water tank, I can have a strong three bars and an hour later be on LTE or have no signal whatsoever.  The SPYPOINT FLEX trail camera can search out the signal it needs to send you the photos, video (with audio) and time lapses with the Flex. We especially like the Time-Lapse + option that allows you to take a time-lapse and still take photos when the camera’s sensor goes off and wildlife walks by.

How to Setup the SPYPOINT Flex Camera?

Setup for the SPYPOINT FLEX.

Download the SPYPOINT appCreate an account (select your plan; we recommend the insider’s club and the best plan)Screw in the antennaInsert memory card (Micro SD)Install batteriesTurn on the cameraFormat the memory cardPress the test button to get a photoTurn off the camera and take to the fieldInstall the camera, test it and enjoy (At this stage you can log in and change the settings for your camera to have it set up the way you want it.)

How does the SPYPOINT App give you an advantage?

The advantage to the Insider Club on SPYPOINT FLEX is tremendous. A single payment of $99.00 gives you 250 free photos a month, the BUCK TRACKER species filter, your 12 month photo history, you can save your 500 favorites to show off to your friends, access to 50 free HD trail camera photos you can download to really zoom in on that monarch whitetail buck and you are entered into a monthly giveaway to win some pretty cool gear. The biggest advantage is that you get 20% on all photo transmission plans and you never have to deal with a carrier like AT&T, Verizon or any of the other carriers on the market to get a sim card.

How the SPYPOINT Game Camera Plan works?

The simplicity of the SPYPOINT FLEX trail camera is that it comes to you with the dual sim cards already installed. When you choose a photo and video plan for your camera you are working directly with SPYPOINT. You can choose to pay for your plan monthly or annually and there are plans for every budget.

One of the options is to use the plan monthly for the 2 or 3 months you are hunting or running your camera year round. One of the best in the industry, Lee Lakosky, in his book Hunting Mature Whitetails The Lakosky Way states his passion for hunting big deer, “It’s about watching them for several years as they grow up. It’s about getting trail camera photos, finding their sheds, naming them and wondering if they’ve survived the season.  That’s the real magic in managing for big deer.”  My plan for 2023 is to have my cameras out in the field for the entire year. We hunt ranch land so it will require a little bit of effort. One of the things we did like is that we can shut off individual cameras from the app which allows you to take a breather while the cows are mowing down the grass.

Sidney Coffin Joins Team Blaser

Blaser is pleased to announce Sidney Coffin as the newest member of Team Blaser. Coffin specializes in Bunker Trap, also known as International Trap – a sport in which clays move at 68 mph or faster and at wider angles than American Trap. She is a two-time Junior National Team member with 2023 team selection matches underway and has her sights set on the 2024 Olympics.

A native Texan and current freshman at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Coffin shoots on the university’s shotgun team. Her first exposure to shotgun shooting came in the seventh grade when she joined the 4-H shooting program, and she’s never looked back.

“Sidney is an exceptional talent, and we are proud to welcome her to Team Blaser and support her efforts in Bunker Trap tournaments throughout the U.S. as she eyes the road to Paris in 2024,” said Jason Evans, CEO, Blaser Group.

“When I visited Blaser USA’s corporate headquarters for the first time, I had a great feeling overall – about everything,” said Coffin. “The people there are wonderful and so supportive of my hard work. I am honored and proud to be part of their team and love shooting my F3 Supersport.”

2023 Keep Wildlife Wild Poster Contest Now Open

Submit Poster Designs By Feb. 17, 2023

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced that the 2023 Keep Wildlife Wild poster contest is now open. Students in fourth, fifth and sixth grades enrolled in public, private, parochial or home schools in Wisconsin are eligible to participate.

The Keep Wildlife Wild program began in 2014 to spread the word about our shared role in keeping all wildlife healthy in its natural habitat. The contest’s goal is to create a poster that teaches the importance of enjoying and observing wildlife in the wild and not keeping wildlife in homes or as pets.

During the warmer months of spring and summer, the frequency of human and wildlife encounters increases, especially those involving young wild animals.

While most of these encounters are harmless, there are times when well-intentioned people disrupt wildlife because they mistake a lone baby animal for an orphan.

The First Hunt Foundation Recieves $120,000 Grant to Develop Free National Online Mentor Training

Most organizations recognize that personal mentoring and coaching of new hunters may be the long term answer to helping save our hunting heritage.  Mentors/Coaches come in many forms and are represented by a wide array of skills and talents. Although there are doubtless thousands of great mentors/coaches across the US, there is no known training standard in the R3 community for developing highly qualified and trained mentors/coaches as ambassadors for saving hunting and shooting as part of our culture.  The First Hunt Foundation has desired for years to pull training together that could fill that gap.  The NRA Hunters’ Leaders Forum is in lockstep with that desire and has granted $120,000 to the First Hunt Foundation to help with development of an interactive on-line training that will help all mentors/coaches in their quest to train the next generation of hunters.

The total cost of the project will be $160,000 and FHF President Rick Brazell says they believe they will easily find national organizations or companies to help sponsor individual sections of the training to achieve the remaining $40,000 and show their support for the R3 effort.  Brazell says, “Our vision is to establish the gold standard for training mentors/coaches in the R3 community utilizing best practices for coaching and mentoring across various demographics and needs”.  By also incorporating “How to talk about hunting” in today’s society the course will enable educators to become effective ambassadors for hunting and shooting sports, but also be able to pass that important information onto the next generation of hunters.

AllenComm, a corporate training and e-learning company, will develop the training modules for the FHF. AllenComm has developed numerous training programs for the NRA and is familiar with outdoor related training efforts.  They will work with the FHF and many subject matter experts to design and test the training before it is released to the public in early 2023.

Brazell adds, “We are even more excited that FHF has been awarded a Technical Assistant grant from the National Mentoring Resource Center to help with development of this training.  Having them aboard insures we are using the latest science and research around mentoring.  Having their seal of approval will validate the trainings credibility.

“The NRA Hunters’ Leadership Forum is happy to support the First Hunt Foundation,” said Peter Churchbourne, Director of the NRA Hunter’s Leadership Forum.  “We have been long overdue in having a properly designed online training course to help those teaching hunting and shooting skills that is available to everyone.  I’m excited the training will be free.  Every Fish and Game agency and NGO in the nation will be able to utilize this training to help their people better understand best practices for mentoring and coaching new hunters.  I want to thank the generous Hunters’ Leadership Forum donors for providing the funds that made this grant possible.”

THAW sets the stage with Rechargeable Personal Hand Warmers

One of the greatest complaints about chemical, disposable hand warmers is the inability to limit and restart the reaction to conserve the heat. That heat energy is lost when walking indoors from outdoors, even if it’s just for a moment. Even more, once the hand warmers have been used, they are considered trash. For the eco-conscious, this means that more waste is produced.

THAW has set out to solve both these problems. They have produced both large and small personal rechargeable hand warmers. These USB-C charging devices double as power banks for any other electronics that might be with you on a cold day. They are warm to the core by offering double-sided heating.

The small and large hand warmers come standard with memory recall to return to heating just as it was left with three different power settings. The small hand warmer can heat up to 10 hours on low at 46C/114F, while the large hand warmer can heat up to 17 hours on low at 46C/114F. No matter the environment, THAW has set out to keep you warm – Warm to the core.

How to Get Together With Other Hunting Enthusiasts

Hunting is a social affair. While you can do it on your own, you’ll have much more fun with other hunting enthusiasts. Finding the right hunting partners can be a complicated process. However, your choice could make or break a hunt.

Get together with partners that you can get along with. They should share your ethics and interests. You don’t want to go hunting with someone who makes you uncomfortable. Here are a few tips for getting together with other hunting enthusiasts.

1. Ask Around

The easiest way to find like-minded hunting partners is asking around. You can always find someone in your social or business circles. Find out whether your friends, neighbors, or colleagues enjoy hunting. There are millions of hunters in the country. You’d be surprised to find out how many of them are in your circle.

2. Join Conservation Groups

Many non-profit organizations hold events to introduce novice hunters to the sport. Joining such groups helps you meet others with similar interests. You can enjoy a lot of support for your hunting expedition. According to a recent QDMA study, 60% of its members would train a novice hunter in their community.

3. Find Mentors Online

Look online to identify classes or programs in your area if you’re having trouble finding a one-on-one mentor. Group courses and programs are educational and a lot of fun. You can always find hunting partners online if you don’t need mentorship.

The Coveted Short-Barrel Colt Python

Introduced in January of 2022, the new 3-inch Python looks like the original revolvers, but that is where the similarities end. Underneath all the beauty, Colt made several improvements that significantly enhanced the functionality and finish of this legendary revolver.

Colt’s newly redesigned action, using nine fewer parts, for a smoother and more robust action. The new leaf spring action is smooth, repeatable, and varies little from cylinder to cylinder vs. Python’s of old. Pythons are double- and single-action guns with a spurred hammer. The silky-smooth trigger pull on a Colt Python is second to none and is part of why these premium revolvers have such outstanding accuracy. Adding to its performance, the new Python includes more steel in the frame, so feeding the Python a steady diet of hot magnum loads is no problem!

Like all new Colt Pythons, the 3-inch barreled version is chambered for the powerful 357 magnum and features a 6-round cylinder. Its semi-bright stainless steel finished barrel and frame contrast with stunning walnut grips. The grip’s shape, deep checkering, and inlaid golden Colt logo are reminiscent of the classic. Its ribbed top strap and full-length underlug are unchanged from the original.

In addition, the ergonomics of the grip are more precise, so shooters won’t have to bring out their hand files. Colt also designed this grip to fit older Python Grips, which is excellent for collectors. User-interchangeable red-ramp front sight allows the consumer to change sights without needing to search out a gunsmith, as with Pythons of old. Its top strap is more robust, with 30% more surface area vs. the original.

Colt Pythons are always fun to shoot, but a peppy load in the 3-inch model promises to bring an even bigger smile to everyone’s face. The compact 3-inch model’s classic looks and modern enhancements ensure a lifetime of shooting pleasure. So, whether it’s for personal defense, enjoyment at the range or filling a gap in a firearms collection, the Colt Python 3-in is worth a closer look.

A Firearms-friendly Payment Gateway That Integrates with BigCommerce and GunBroker Now Offered by Blue Payment Agency of Windham, Maine

FFL dealers who use both BigCommerce and GunBroker to sell online can now use Blue Payment Agency’s firearms payment gateway setup and support program to streamline their credit card processing.

Many FFL dealers that sell online – and ship only to other licensed federal dealers – use both the GunBroker auction website and their own BigCommerce website to reach more firearms customers. Blue Payment Agency’s BigCommerce/GunBroker FFL payment processing allows these dealers to use one account to process online credit card sales. This benefits FFL dealers by providing an affordable application, approval, setup, integration, and payment processing reporting system.

Blue Payment Agency requires that all FFL dealers, who process payments online, ship their firearms to other federally licensed dealers. This way, a full background check can be performed on all buyers using the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).

Blue Payment Agency has designed an FFL payments program that streamlines the entire process for multi-platform e-commerce gun dealers. The Blue Payment Agency BigCommerce/GunBroker FFL payments program helps automate approvals, and their trained staff will help FFL dealers integrate their payment processing into both the auction page and e-commerce website.

Alex Roy, who is the founder and president of Blue Payment Agency, explains it this way, “BigCommerce FFL dealers that also use GunBroker need a simple way to process credit cards, track online revenue, and process any credit card refunds without using multiple payment gateway logins and multiple merchant accounts. Our consolidated e-commerce payment gateway program allows dealers to view and manage all their online sales – whether they are through an auction website like GunBroker or a traditional e-commerce website like those hosted by BigCommerce – all in one place.”

New NDA Video: How to Easily Debone Venison for Travel in CWD Zones

Avoiding transportation of deer carcasses out of CWD zones helps prevent the spread of chronic wasting disease into new areas, and the National Deer Association has released a new video helping deer hunters debone their venison for safe, legal travel.

The new video, available on NDA’s YouTube channel at youtube.com/deerassociation, was created in partnership with The Bearded Buck of Pennsylvania. NDA Chief Conservation Officer Kip Adams processes a doe harvested at The Bearded Buck property while teaching techniques for skinning and deboning venison.

“Whether you’re hunting deer in the early season in warm temperatures or hunting a CWD management zone where carcass transportation is restricted, it’s a useful skill to be able to quickly skin, quarter and de-bone venison for easy and legal transportation,” said Adams. “If you hunt in a chronic wasting disease (CWD) zone, it’s critical to prevent the spread of disease to new areas by leaving the carcass in the CWD zone where you harvested the deer.

In the video, Adams shows all the steps on how to process efficiently, effectively and safely according to CWD guidelines. The new video will help deer hunters go from field to freezer in no time.

Visit http://youtube.com/deerassociation to watch the new video and many other educational videos on deer science, hunting and management.

ESCORT’s BTS Bullpup Series Shotguns are Built to Last

The ESCORT® BTS Bullpup offers all the perks of the VTS series shotguns in a more compact, portable package. This next-generation shotgun is available in either 12 ga or .410 cal and is offered in either black or FDE Cerakote. Using the same gas-piston system as the other VTS shotguns, the BTS Bullpup is slender, with smaller dimensions, thus it is more agile to and at the shoulder. Great for close-quarter action.

The tough polymer lower receiver also doubles as the forend grip, with soft rubber inlays for improved handling. The synthetic barrel cover features Hatsan’s patented ThermoDefend technology that absorbs and dissipates heat while containing the gas operating system. A DuraDefend magazine well, lined with alloy, enhances the durability against extended use.

Recoil control is distributed between a soft rubber buttpad and a long recoil spring. The reversible charging handle offers the ability for ambidextrous operation. The soft rubber pistol grip is removable and can be exchanged for one of many currently available aftermarket options to suit the individual user. The one-piece carry handle sight can be replaced with the included flip-up sights for a lower profile or when using mounted optics. Picatinny rails are also located on either side of the forend to accommodate a variety of accessories.

The 12-gauge models feature an 18” barrel with removable chokes, including an extended cylinder bore choke brake that helps tame recoil with heavy shots or slugs. Also included are full and improved cylinder flush-mount chokes, with additional options available from HatsanUSA. Each gun ships with two 5-round magazines, but an optional 2-round magazine is also available. The gun is chambered to accept 2¾” and 3” shells and will cycle them interchangeably with no external adjustments required by the shooter.

The .410 models feature a 20” barrel with a fixed cylinder choke, suitable for both shots and slugs. This shotgun is one smooth operator, offering the same recoil-absorbing characteristics as the larger caliber models. The BTS ships with two 5-round magazines but there is also an optional low-capacity mag that holds three shells. The gas operation performs similarly, both standard and magnum loads cycle smoothly and reliably with no external adjustments required.

Hunters Find Ultimate Cold-Weather Hunting Gear in Nomad’s Conifer NXT Series

Late season hunts usher in frigid temperatures and often the hottest deer activity of the season. Thankfully, Nomad’s Conifer NXT Line is designed specifically for these moments.

The Nomad Conifer NXT Jacket and Bibs provide maximum protection and superior huntability in harsh winter conditions.
