Savage Arms recently attended and participated in the 2023 National R3 Symposium in Albuquerque, New Mexico May 22-25, 2023. The event was delivered by The Council to Advance Hunting and the Shooting Sports and attended by hundreds of representatives of state/national agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGO) and hunting, shooting, sports, fishing and outdoor industries across the country. In addition to contributions at the event, Savage’s commitment to R3 is significant and ever-growing.

Savage partners with many organizations that engage in boots-on-the-ground R3 efforts. The company is proud to work in tandem with entities that focus on conservation, mentorship and education. Several Savage partners run unique programming to educate new hunters and shooters, have women-led chapters, host youth events and mentored hunts and more.

Savage Digital Marketing Specialist Kristin Boeshart spoke on the Industry Engagement in R3 Panel at the recent event. Facilitating relationships between industry and NGO/agency professionals on the R3 front is a constant topic of conversation. To accurately contribute to this conversation, the panel of industry professionals discussed current efforts and sparked some new ideas for creative partnerships moving forward.

With Nebraska’s permit quotas reduced for the upcoming deer seasons, hunters may find tags easily obtained in the past will be in limited supply. They can help improve their chances of getting a permit by applying during the respective periods in June and July.

Changes to permit quotas are driven by changes in the field, notably a severe decline in deer harvest last year.

The 2022 deer harvest was down 11% statewide from the previous year and down 22% from 2020. Mule deer buck harvest was the lowest since 1981 and whitetail buck harvest was the lowest since 1994.

As a result, nonresidents will find fewer permits will be available to them.

SITKA announces new initiatives using science and stewardship to fuel natural systems through its grant program.

SITKA is calling for Ecosystem Grant Applications under a banner of new program priorities to continue to support conservation impacts made not only by large organizations but also by grassroots efforts led by passionate individuals. These grants will continue to fund projects that improve the state and function of an ecosystem through habitat restoration, biodiversity, conservation and working landscapes, while also supporting the growth of the hunting experience through access, education, and mentorship. A brand-new initiative will be working across sectors in a shared stewardship effort to prioritize whole ecosystems through collaborative conservation.

Lindsey Davis is the new Director of Conservation and Advocacy at SITKA Gear leading this important program which has been a SITKA initiative since 2019. Davis comes to SITKA with a background in conservation and advocacy with a diverse array of constituents including ranchers, farmers, underserved communities, native tribes, education institutions, businesses and policy experts. She has worked in the environmental and outdoor sectors for nearly two decades and serves on several boards across the industry in addition to being a volunteer citizen scientist. “I am thrilled to be working with the SITKA team and building upon their conservation legacy. SITKA’s focus on prioritizing whole ecosystems stands out not only in the hunting space, but in the outdoor industry as a whole. Our newly refined program pillars and priorities will allow SITKA to continue to make an impact in protecting wildlife and its habitats, while also ensuring the future of hunting and building new partnerships in the conservation arena,” said Davis.

Each summer, competitors from around the country travel to Camp Perry in Port Clinton, Ohio, for the National Matches, which are open to the public. But many people don’t realize that marksmen of any skill level are welcome to shoot at the Petrarca Range and the National Matches. Petrarca Range, located on the grounds of Camp Perry, is a covered range open on Mondays to the public and features electronic targets equipped with the most innovative technology on the market.

Marolina Outdoor Inc. the parent company of Huk Performance Fishing and Nomad Outdoor has tapped Joe Becker as the new Vice President of Marketing for both Brands. Becker has already begun his tenure with the company over the past month but is excited to transition to his new role and help pave a path forward for the future.

Becker will be responsible for leading and managing all areas of marketing for the Huk and Nomad brands. He will be a key player in the company’s success, responsible for driving growth and profitability through effective marketing strategies and tactics. “With an impressive career in the Apparel & Footwear industry spanning more than 23 years, we look forward to Joe leveraging his knowledge and experience in the industry to benefit Marolina Outdoor and our brands,” adds Dean Rurak as Chief Executive Officer at Marolina Outdoor. He continues, “We are confident Joe is the best candidate to plot the course for growth and new customer acquisition for Huk and Nomad.” 

Becker recently served as Creative Director for the Wolverine Boot brand as well as Ecommerce Creative Director for Merrell, Creative Director, E-Commerce Marketing Manager and International Marketing Director for Cat Footwear and Art Director for Carhartt.
