ICAST 2023: Reinventing anAmerican Inshore Favorite

St. Croix upgrades Avid Series Inshore rods for elevated performance and value in 2024

Experienced inshore anglers seeking best-in-category performance among American-made mid-priced fishing rods have looked to St. Croix’s vast Avid Series Inshore lineup for well over a decade. Today, when an angler is standing on the deck holding a Seafoam Green Metallic rod, everyone knows they’re casting an ideal combination of American-crafted performance and value. And the Avid name represents the same to anglers in other diverse waters. Favored by performance-oriented anglers of all pursuits, Avid is a legacy series for St. Croix Rod – a name never to be retired – encompassing 99 distinct and current models in the general freshwater, walleye, panfish, travel, saltwater inshore, and surf-rod categories.

“Avid Inshore was last refreshed in 2015,” says St. Croix Brand Manager, Ryan Teach. “And while those upgrades were significant at that time, they pale in comparison to what we’ve been able to do to the series for 2024, starting with the use of our hybrid carbon fiber material in the blanks.”

Each of 23 distinct Avid Series Inshore models for 2024 now starts from an all-new SCIII+ blank, precision engineered and crafted from a distinct combination of premium SCIII carbon and exotic SCVI carbon. Meanwhile, St. Croix’s proprietary Advanced Reinforcing Technology (ART) and Taper Enhancement Technology (TET) are now used in conjunction with existing IPC and FRS technologies to dramatically increase strength and durability while enhancing smoothness and heightening each specific action. The result? Avid Series Inshore rods that are lighter, crisper, even more sensitive, and better balanced in the hand, while supporting all the diverse ways inshore anglers fish.

“None of the things that anglers already love about Avid Inshore have changed,” says Teach. “We’ve retained the iconic Seafoam Green Metallic color, the lightweight and worry-free stainless-steel and Alconite guide trains, and the full cork handles,” he says. “Though we’ve updated the reel seats and redesigned those full-cork grips for improved balance and ergonomics, while also moving to a more durable cork material.”

Independent Medical Group Supports Suppressor Deregulation

Lexington, KY: The Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA), an independent medical group that focuses  on evidence-based practices in the delivery of audio-vestibular care, has circulated a letter to  Representative Jeff Duncan (R-SC-03) and Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) supporting the deregulation  of suppressors through the Hearing Protection Act. Their rationale is simple: suppressors are a tool that  can help prevent noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) and other hearing damage.

“As an independent medical group, the Academy of Doctors of Audiology has absolutely no vested interest in  suppressors outside of the positive impact that they have on hearing conservation,” said Knox Williams, Executive  Director of the American Suppressor Association. “Their endorsement of the Hearing Protection Act, which would  give law-abiding citizens improved access to suppressors, highlights the importance of these tools when it  comes to firearms safety. We applaud ADA for putting this letter together and actively supporting hearing  conservation.”

“ADA is committed to advancing public policy initiatives related to hearing loss  prevention and early intervention. Therefore, ADA endorses the Hearing

Protection Act,”

Body Piercings and Plastics Surgery

New Z-Man® Rattle-Snaker® wires ElaZtech® and all soft plastics with fish-attracting sound

Among all the extra-terrestrial benefits of Z-Man ElaZtech baits, their enigmatic ability to “self-heal”—even after numerous strike lacerations and hook stabs—unlocks some rather valuable bait-rigging mods. Stick a hook into a GOAT, Turbo CrawZ or Jerk ShadZ two, three . . . ten different times. Catch a dozen big redfish or fifty largemouth bass. Re-rig the same “used” bait time and time again with next to no damage. ElaZtech is so tough it’s been known to occasionally outlast the hook. Crazy, right?

These same magical self-healing properties make superplastics ideal vehicles for numerous creative hacks—perhaps none more exciting than implanting them with fish-attracting rattles or auxiliary weights. That’s where an impressive little tool known as the Rattle-Snaker® emerges from your tacklebox.

Adding the benefits of sound attraction to any soft plastic bait, the Z-Man Rattle-Snaker effortlessly implants tiny rattles in a quick, safe two-step process. Its patented tool design allows for precision insertion of rattles— or tungsten weights— into bait bodies via a stainless-steel insertion needle and pushrod. Simply insert the tool’s point into the bait’s tail, head or torso. Place a rattle inside the tool’s hollow needle. Implant it in place with the pushrod and you’re immediately wired for fish-attracting sound.

Several years ago, recognizing the value of amplifying his favorite ElaZtech baits with maraca-like vibes, Rattle-Snaker inventor Oliver Green endeavored to engineer a turnkey fishing tool. “I knew if I could contrive a device capable of injecting a rattle into my favorite soft plastic baits, it could be a pretty big deal,” notes Green, an inshore saltwater specialist from southeast Florida.

Toyota, Alumacraft Boats, And South Dakota’s Second Century Habitat Fund Team Up For The WIN.

Sioux Falls, SD —- South Dakota’s Second Century Habitat Fund (SCHF) has collaborated with Toyota dealerships of South Dakota and Alumacraft Boats to raise financial support for habitat conservation efforts in South Dakota. They offered a raffle prize consisting of a Toyota Tundra TRD Pro and an Alumacraft Classic 165 boat, loaded with outdoor gear provided by, Gerber, Scheels, Berkley, WileyX, Ugly Stick, Maven Optics, Seaguar Fishing Line, and Grizzly coolers which was promoted through social media ads and email campaigns starting October 2022. The campaign was conducted in partnership with the South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks, resulting in an impressive amount of over $380,000 raised for habitat conservation.

According to Brian Bashore, SCHF Executive Director, the Toyota Tundra and Alumacraft boat combination was the most significant prize offered in the three years they have been running the raffle. The success of the past raffles demonstrates the widespread support South Dakota receives from people across the country, ensuring the preservation of conservation efforts and the continuation of pheasant hunting as a top priority for all to enjoy. None of this is possible without the support of our partners, especially Toyota and AlumaCraft. They truly made this happen.

The winner of the raffle was Ross Gaulke from Mitchell, South Dakota. Bashore personally informed Ross of his victory just before the announcement was made to a crowd of over 500 guests at the Fund’s inaugural Gala on June 3rd in Sioux Falls, SD. Bashore expressed his satisfaction with the selection, stating that Ross is a deserving winner. Ross and his wife recently acquired 60 acres of land and have been actively working on enhancing wildlife habitat by planting over 2,000 trees and converting the rest of the land into native grasses. Ross was one of 5,500 people to purchase tickets, and he was selected as the winner through the SD Game, Fish, and Parks’ big game license lottery system.

The funds raised from this raffle will be used to support habitat programs throughout South Dakota, aiming to foster high-quality habitats for wildlife to thrive and ensuring the continuation of the state’s renowned pheasant hunting tradition for future generations.

XS Sights Introduces R3D 2.0 Tritium Night Sights for Glock and Smith & Wesson Pistols

XS® Sights is excited to introduce R3D 2.0 tritium night sights. These new and improved second-generation R3D notch and post tritium sights are engineered to give gun owners a brighter, stronger set of self-defense sights that are even easier to install than the original models and built to withstand years of EDC use and abuse.

Designed to drive focus downrange, the new R3D 2.0 sights feature significant improvements from their gen 1 counterpart. The two rear tritium dots are bigger and brighter than those in the original R3D. The new sights also have a PVC ring surrounding the rear sight lamps for a more defined edge to improve sight picture and further differentiate the front dot from the rear sight lamps. The rear sight is also blacked out and serrated to reduce glare. When paired with the high-contrast, orange or green dual-illuminated photoluminescent Glow Dot front sight with a tritium vial, the R3D 2.0 provides more visible indexing for precision alignment. This front sight is wider than many on the market – 0.145” – and its Glow Dot activates after absorbing ambient light to glow in low light while the tritium lamp is self-luminous, glowing in low or no light for 12 years.

Say goodbye to filing and hammering. The new EasyPress features built into the dovetail of the R3D 2.0 rear sight eliminate these steps. XS has paired a crush zone with a lead-in edge which reduces the force needed for installation by up to 50%. The directional lead allows the sight to be pressed over 1/3 of the way through the slide’s dovetail before making full contact. After full contact is made between the sight wall and dovetail, the crush zone begins to collapse, making final installation easy. The new sights also have a BlackNitride finish with double the corrosion resistance of the original black oxide surface treatment.

“R3D 2.0 night sights are a top choice for those seeking advanced precision and accuracy in their everyday carry handguns. Installing them is a breeze with a sight pusher, and once they’re in place, they’ll stand up to years of use,” said Addison Monroe, Marketing Manager, XS Sights. “R3D 2.0 is the brightest notch and post option available. These sights are engineered to align quickly and accurately, especially in low-light conditions, making them ideal for people who rely on their firearms for personal defense in any situation.”

The new R3D 2.0 sights are currently available for the following:

C&H Precision is the One Stop Shop for Gun Owners with the Addition of Cerakote!

In-House Cerakote Now Offered by C&H Precision

As gun owners seek customization to their pistols, access to qualified gunsmiths can become more difficult. While a singular gunsmith may specialize in a specific customization aspect, very few can provide a wide range of precise and difficult upgrades for a pistol. This is where C&H Precision is leading the way.

C&H Precision has begun offering Cerakote finishes for pistol slides in their growing list of customizations available. Coming in OD Green (ODG), Grey, FDE, and Black, C&H Precision’s Cerakote makes it easy to make your pistol what you truly want. This expansion of personalized coloring and finishing adds to the complete list of available offerings from C&H Precision’s workshop.

Optics cuts and adaptor plates have long been C&H Precision’s bread and butter. Earlier this year, introducing proprietary optics meant customers didn’t need to search for a quality optics manufacturer for their new slide cut. With new finish options, customers can take a standard or ‘in the raw’ pistol and make it perfect the first time with just one shipping label.

Starting at $60 with a 1–2-week lead time, Cerakote from C&H Precision enhances the look of your pistol while increasing durability and resistance to scratches and corrosion.

John Rigby & Co. introduces new limited edition Swiss Rigby rifle

London gunmaker John Rigby and Co. has collaborated with specialists from firearms importer Sell-In-Swiss to create an exceptional collection of limited edition rifles that pays tribute to Switzerland and the famous precision of the 7.5×55 Swiss calibre. The series is limited to just 52 pieces in total, the idea being that two of these rifles are created for each of Switzerland’s famous 26 cantons.

The design is derived from Rigby’s legendary Highland Stalker rifle, echoing its elegance and simplicity, but the aesthetics and features mark the Swiss Rigby Rifle out as a truly unique firearm. As with all Rigby rifles, indicated by the mantra ‘fit for purpose’, the Swiss Rigby Rifle embodies robustness, precision and functional reliability in a rifle that any discerning hunter would be proud to carry.

The famous 7.5×55 Swiss calibre combined with an open sight and rear dioptre means that this gun shoots to extreme precision and can shoot from 300m without difficulty. 300m is the standard length of a Swiss rifle range. The individual rifles in the series are numbered on the magazine floor, which also showcases the calibre and the designation “Swiss Limited Edition”. This design will never be reissued and is not being included in the Rigby catalogue. It is truly limited to these 52 pieces, and there are already plenty of famous names from the hunting world already lining up to take a closer look.

Each Swiss Rigby rifle will be delivered in a beautiful hand-manufactured gun case that serves not only to keep the rifle safe when it’s being stored, but also looks superb in any gunroom. The interior and exterior design and colours of the case have been meticulously chosen to ensure the case is a totally new design, marking the significance of this collection.
