Sioux Falls, SD— Second Century Habitat Fund (SCHF) awards Eric Johannsen with it’s 2023 Habitat Steward of the Year Award at it’s inaugural Gala in Sioux Falls, SD on June 3rd, 2023. 

The Habitat Steward of the Year Award recognizes a South Dakota Landowner who provides an outstanding example of pheasant habitat development and conservation while promoting awareness to sustain South Dakota’s strong outdoor heritage of pheasant hunting for current and future generations.

“It’s wonderful to recognize landowners like Eric who demonstrate outstanding efforts in pheasant habitat development and conservation while promoting the preservation of South Dakota’s outdoor heritage of pheasant hunting,” said Jim Faulstich, Habitat Committee Chair for the Board of Directors.

The SCHF acknowledges the crucial role played by landowners in their organization and considers them as true conservation heroes. Eric’s ability to balance land use for agricultural production and habitat development showcases his dedication to providing ample acres for wildlife and people to thrive and enjoy stated Brian Bashore, Executive Director of the fund. 

Eric Johannsen was nominated by several of his peers, and the SCHF board unanimously selected him as the well-deserving recipient of the 2023 award. As part of his recognition, Eric received a $2,000 cash award and a plaque during the Fund Gala, which was attended by more than 500 guests.

Columbia, MO – MidwayUSA Foundation has provided cash grants for the third year in a row to help ranges across the country expand and encourage more youth shooting sports activities. This year, $900,000 has been awarded to 45 recipients. These grants ensure our country’s ranges are able to support our youth with the best shooting experience possible.  

This is just one of the many programs that MidwayUSA Foundation offers to provide funds to grow and sustain youth shooting sports. Since this grant program’s inception, some funded improvements have included creating bigger and better parking areas to allow a range to host larger youth events, handicap accessibility for ease of athletes and spectators, the addition of sporting clays courses to offer youth shooters another way to compete, and more. MidwayUSA Foundation’s Range Development grant program ensures that the future of youth shooting sports continues to progress.   

Since 2021, the Foundation has awarded 122 grants, totaling $2,150,000, for range improvements. These funds have been dispersed throughout the entire United States. The Northeast region has received $631,681.84 and the Northwest region has received $571,597.61. In the south, ranges in the east received $540,722.05 and the west region received $405,998.50 in range development funds. BELLEVUE, WA – Attorneys representing the Second Amendment Foundation and its partners in a challenge of Delaware’s ban on so-called “assault weapons” and “large capacity magazines” have filed a brief with the U.S. Third District Court of Appeals in a consolidation of cases.

SAF is involved in two of the three cases, known as Graham v. Jennings and Gray v. Jennings. The appeal brief focuses on three questions: Whether Delaware’s ban on commonly-possessed rifles, mischaracterized as “assault rifles” and the ban on “large capacity magazines” violates the Second Amendment, and whether the District Court erred in refusing to grant a preliminary injunction in both cases.

SAF and its fellow plaintiffs are represented by attorneys Bradley P. Lehman at Gellert Scali Busenkell & Brown in Wilmington, Del., and David H Thompson, Peter A. Patterson and John D. Ohlendorf at Cooper & Kirk in Washington, D.C.

Other plaintiffs are Firearms Policy Coalition, DJJAMS LLC and individual citizens Owen Stevens and Christopher Graham, William Taylor and Gabriel Gray.

“Delaware has banned the most popular rifle in the country, along with the standard-capacity magazines supplied by manufacturers to consumers in most other states,” noted SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “The laws being challenged have literally criminalized ownership of these popular arms and the magazines supplied with them, essentially jeopardizing an act of self-defense if it involves one of the affected firearms or magazines.”
