Duck, Duck, Goose! CZ-USA’s Hard-Hitting 12-Gauge Waterfowl Shotguns

CZ-USA builds shotguns for serious waterfowlers. From pump action and over/under to semi-autos, CZ shotguns deliver outstanding performance in the harshest hunting conditions. Because CZ makes a wide range of field-ready shotguns, choosing the best model for waterfowl hunting is sometimes overwhelming. So here is a curated list of dedicated camo-clad waterfowl hunting shotguns to help narrow down the options.

The CZ 712 G3 camo is the latest version of the tried-and-true soft-shooting gas-operated semi-automatic shotgun. The shotgun comes with two pistons, one for light/medium and the other for heavy magnum loads. Both pistons handle a wide range of shotshells up to 3 inches, the light for target shooting and the heavy for field loads. The 712’s Mossy Oak Elements Terra camo protects metal surfaces and keeps the shotgun hidden. Other features include an oversized safety, bolt release, charging handle, and a shim kit to adjust its cast and drop.

The CZ 1012 Synthetic Camo is for waterfowl hunters who love inertia-operated semi-auto shotguns for their simplicity, reliability, and minimal maintenance. The 1012’s gas-less system is tuned to run a variety of shells — from light-recoiling target loads to the hottest 3-inch magnum field loads. This model is available in 26- or 28-inch barrels with a vent rib and includes a fiber optic bead sight. Models with Mossy Oak Blades or Mossy Oak Bottomland camo blend well in various hunting environments and habitats.

The CZ 612 Magnum Waterfowl is a 12-gauge pump action shotgun built for the goose blind. The 612 Magnum Waterfowl cycles all waterfowl shotshells up to 3.5-inch magnums, and it comes with five extended black choke tubes delivering optimum patterns with any load. A flat vent rib 28-inch barrel provides excellent balance point ability. A complete camo hydro dip protects the shotgun’s metal and keeps it hidden from waterfowl.

The CZ Swamp Magnum is a 3-1/2″ chambered Over & Under 12-gauge shotgun ready to knock big birds from the sky. It’s the only over/under in the CZ line with an automatic safety, bringing added safety protection to the duck blind. It features 30-inch barrels for a smooth swing, a set of extended choke tubes for optimum patterns, and ejectors for lightning-fast reloads. The Swamp Magnum’s polymer stock is cloaked in Realtree camo, and all metalwork is blacked out.

Make Your Home or Cabin Safe Resolutions for 2023

Cop Talk: Safety Advice from a Suburban Beat Cop

When you are making New Year resolutions resolve to make sure that your home and family are safe. Here are some tips from retired Midwest police officer John Good, to protect your home.

1.       Install an alarm

It seems intuitive to have an alarm installed in your home,  but according to Alarms.org:  “Burglars are most attracted to homes that do not have home security systems, but only 17% of houses have a system in place. Homes without a security system are 300% more likely to be burglarized. Ninety-five percent of all home invasions require some sort of forceful entry, be that breaking a window, picking a lock, or kicking in a door.”

Once your alarm system is installed, add a security sign in your front yard, as well as security system stickers on your windows. Burglars will actually look through windows to identify motion detectors in the residence. Consequently, hanging fake alarm company signs, or stickers on your front door, without an actual alarm system is worthless.

HEVI-Shot Ammunition Announces New Waterfowl Loads for 2023

HEVI-Shot is proud to announce new waterfowl loads for 2023. An all-new product line and several new existing line extensions will be showcased and on display at the 2023 SHOT Show (Booth No. 11838), January 17–20 at the Venetian Expo and Caesars Forum in Las Vegas, Nevada. These additions include new offerings in HEVI-Shot’s HEVI-XII, HEVI-Metal Xtreme, HEVI-Bismuth Waterfowl, and HEVI-Hammer Waterfowl.

HEVI-Shot’s all-new HEVI-Metal Xtreme load feature a layer of HEVI-Shot’s original 12 g/cc HEVI-XII tungsten pellets (30 percent) stacked over steel pellets (70 percent) in the same shell. The dense tungsten pellets are three shot sizes smaller than the steel pellets to ensure both layers have equal downrange performance. The load features the FLITECONTROL FLEX wad—sourced from HEVI-Shot’s sister brand Federal Ammunition—for consistent long-range patterns and is set to blistering velocities. These new loads are available in four 12- and 20-gauge options.

HEVI-XII is the original 12-density, tungsten alloy recipe from HEVI-Shot. HEVI-XII pellets hit harder from a longer distance. Its pellet material is 53.8 percent denser than steel–doubling the downrange energy. Shooters can drop three shot sizes for the same lethality and 28 percent more devastating pellets on target. Available in a full line of loads, including new shot size No. 2, 4 and 6 offerings in 12 and 20 gauge.

HEVI-Bismuth Waterfowl loads are safe for both modern and classic waterfowl shotguns. Its 9.6 g/cc pellets allow shooters to drop a shot size compared to steel. Now there’s a choice for every wingshooter, with offerings from .410 bore to 10 gauge, including two new 28-gauge loads.

HEVI-Hammer Waterfowl loads consist of layered bismuth pellets (15 percent of the payload) over steel pellets. This gives hunters more range with added density, tighter patterns, and improved shot strings. These loads are available in a wide selection of 12- and 20-gauge options, including new 3 1/2-inch 12-gauge No. 2, 4 and BB.

Built for extreme cold and the most inhabitable corners of the Earth, the Expedition series was first conceived during a visit to Greenland where FORLOH supports weather stations conducting critical climate science. The extreme weather, including rapidly changing levels of precipitation and intense cold, led the FORLOH team on a mission to design the ultimate waterproof down apparel.

“Our goal was to meet the need for Greenland climate science missions, and we’ve gone above and beyond with the Expedition: it’s the lightest, most durable waterproof down outerwear on the market,” said FORLOH founder and CEO, Andy Techmanski. “True to the FORLOH philosophy of no concessions, the Expedition features a world-first in the 800+ fill power USA pure white down. This didn’t exist, so we challenged the Downlite Outdoor team and they delivered, creating a new process to make it happen. The Expedition is extreme enough for Everest but comfortable enough for a winter storm in Chicago.”

Every aspect of the Expedition is crafted to maximize warmth, comfort, and temperature regulation. The lining is an engineered pattern, with each baffle strategically weighted based on location and corresponding temperature needs of the human body. The collection also features the first-of-its-kind responsibly harvested 800+ fill 90/10 power USA down, a major breakthrough in down technology developed in partnership between FORLOH and Downlite Outdoor. The 3-layer shell is fully seam-sealed, waterproof, breathable and lightweight, and built to maximize durability while also being military-proven for stealth.
