Facebook Twitter PinterestLinkedIn

We rounded up some of the best RV trips in the South where you can experience all the wonder the lower half of the nation has to offer. The South is famous for white sandy beaches, down-home cooking, blues and jazz music, along with manners. “Yes, ma’am” and “no, sir” are staples within many Southern citizens’ vocabularies. You can find even more great RV trips in the South while planning your travels with RV LIFE Pro.

1. Charlotte, North Carolina

Situated conveniently on the North Carolina/South Carolina border, Charlotte offers up a large variety of indoor and outdoor activities and attractions.

Known as the Queen City, Charlotte is also home to one of the state’s largest theme parks, Carowinds. Spaced out over 400 acres, this park has a little something for everyone. A ticket to the theme park also grants you entrance to the attached Carolina Harbor Waterpark for even more fun under the Carolina sun.

Set up camp at the theme park’s campground and you’ll be just a few steps away from all the action. Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort offers full hookups and paved sites for RVs that are less than 41 feet long. The amenities are nice, ranging from a pool to a game room and a camp store for everyday needs.

Crossbows on Safari: Mission Sub1 XR

Mission Sub1 XR-

Mission Crossbows are the Mercedes models of the industry.  Like Ford and Chevy, most companies change and introduce new models each year.  Mission has found a platform that works and only tweaks as necessary.

Walt Lane has taken three safaris with his Sub-1 and lauds its performance and accuracy.  Mission nearly “owns” crossbow competitions, with podium-earned performances in almost every category.

Dead On-

I helped Lane test the zero on his Mission in camp, setting up a Morrell target at 30 yards with a tiny mailing label as an aiming point.  He shot from the standing position, and I pulled the arrow, “You missed… by ¼ inch,” I laughed.

The Mission Sub1XR is rated at 425 fps, which isn’t as fast as the fastest bows, yet  it delivers all the power any North American hunter needs.  Lane faced numerous shots like this one where exact shop placement and animal angle were critical.

Whoa! What a Waterbuck-

Tops on Lane’s list was a waterbuck, and this management species came to drink.  It was so mature that it was post-breeding and earned a discount to help manage the herd.

Which Teardrop Camper Is Right for You?

The popularity of teardrop campers has skyrocketed in recent years. From national parks to high-end RV resorts, you’ll see them everywhere. But there are so many designs out there that it begs the question: which teardrop camper is right for you?

What is a Teardrop Camper?

Teardrop trailers are named for their iconic shape. From a profile view, the teardrop begins wider at the front of the trailer and tapers off towards the rear. They are also known to be lightweight and compact, but they can vary dramatically in size, weight, and shape.

Teardrop campers are an excellent first step into the RV world for those who are tired of tent camping. While most aren’t fully self-contained like larger RVs, they will eliminate the hassle of dealing with a wet tent first thing in the morning.

Without investing in a massive RV or travel trailer, teardrops get you off the ground and provide a more sturdy hard shell exterior to protect you from wildlife and the elements. Dealing with rain, snow, and other inclement weather is much easier in a teardrop than in a tent.

The Pros and Cons of Teardrop Campers

It helps to know if a teardrop camper is the right RV choice for you at all. The debate over towable versus motorized RVs has raged on for years, but teardrops have specific advantages and disadvantages.

Stalking A Buck In The Sunflowers

Whitetail bucks have this seeming invincibility around them. Most hunters believe that whitetail bucks cannot be stalked by a bowhunter. But, it can be done and it is not immature bucks that I am bowhunting. These are mature bucks and, yes, they can be stalked. And stalking is the ultimate challenge.

The sun was high enough we had at least three hours to walk, run, crouch, crawl and even slither through the sunflower stalks. Looking across a field of combined sunflowers it looks as if there is no cover, depressions, or contours to use, but by carefully glassing, you can pick a route that will help with wind direction and concealment. On the way your route may change as deer move and wind directions switch. You need to keep all your senses on high alert.

Today the deer were on the opposite side of the field feeding and rutting. They were not focused on us. As we moved in their direction, we crouched and jogged through the sunflowers stalks picking our way, careful not to break or scuff a sunflower stalk and alerting any deer that we were inside their domain.

On the way to the deer we had to adjust to the deer moving, as well as to the changing topography. Keeping our heads low we regularly glassed the deer, looking for the big buck we had seen through the spotting scope, before deciding to go on this stalk.

We saw the big buck’s competitors but could not find the big buck himself so decisions needed to be made quickly, move closer or wait. I decided, and in a few minutes we were closer. Crawling on my belly sliding my bow ahead and picking my way through and around the sunflower stalks. My knees, elbows and back began tightening up, but you have forget the pain … and move on.

6 Benefits of Living In An RV

Many people associate RVing with retirees who have saved for years to travel in an RV. While they make up a good portion of the RV community, so too do young solo travelers, couples, and families in all stages of life. Many have even sold their houses and embraced the full-time RV lifestyle.

There are a lot of benefits to living in an RV, but if you’re wondering whether the RV lifestyle suits your preferences, you should know that renting an RV is a great option when you start. That way, you’ll have more experience to draw from when deciding whether to buy a new or used RV.

The Benefits of Living in an RV

There are many benefits of living in an RV, from the flexibility to work anywhere to the chance to set up a seasonal RV basecamp for your favorite adventure sports. Full-time RVing isn’t reserved for retirees anymore.

Here are a few reasons people are choosing the RV lifestyle.

Live Simply

The idea of downsizing and traveling lightly appeals to many. RVing forces you to consider every item you bring on your journey, forcing you to purge possessions that might be weighing you down.

A hand holding a roll of money saved
A busy highway with a lot of cars
Two men working at a table inside an RV

Is Being In The Woods Good?

Science is in the hunters’ corner when they tell you they’re going to the woods to relax, or calm down ,or to get a change in attitude. Here is what happens.

Research discovered evidence that the woodlands contain airborne substances (phytoncides) that relax humans, boost immunity, lower blood pressure and help fight cancer. Scientists also found compounds in the wilderness soil that improve mood and reduce anxiety and depression.

Mind, a United Kingdom mental-health charity, compiled a long list of ecotherapies and published a study that found nature walks reduced depression symptoms in 71 percent of its participants. Mind also found that three in five people with mental-health problems felt more positive about their lives when leaving an ecotherapy project.

As if the natural and physical-healing properties of Mother Earth aren’t enough, research also links our time in nature with creativity boosts, positivity bouts and greater acceptance of people’s differences. In the paper Rewilding Music; Improvisation, Wilderness, and the Global Musician, researchers in Helsinki, Finland, followed a study group of improvisational artists into the wilderness for three nights, and then to a group performance.

The study’s participants were asked to relate their experiences. They concluded that the qualities of listening, acceptance and authenticity were enhanced by their time in the outdoors. One participant said: “Personally, I am happiest when I am in the wilderness. I would stay there if I could, and I spend a lot of weekends just away from the city, in the peace of quiet of the forest, walking. When I’m there, I calm down.”

Crossbow Spotlight- Gearhead X16 Tactical

Gearhead X16 Tactical-

Many shooters transition from compound bows to crossbows for a variety of reasons. Some welcome the horizontal format while others wish they could still use their vertical gear. If you are in this latter camp, check out the Gearhead Tactical X16 as it embraces more elements of vertical archery than any other crossbow.

 “Wow, that bow is light,”

Exclaimed John Salvatore when I handed him the Gearhead crossbow for the first time. We were headed for Africa and John wanted to update his launch capacity. I suggested the X16 for its unique benefits, less weight just one of them.
The bow was topped with a Hawk scope with illuminated reticles, so we headed to my backyard shooting range to test the bow and see how Salvatore liked it.

Unique Features-

Erector sets were the Lego blocks of the late 20th century and if you are a boomer, you will recognize the unique structure of the X16 immediately. This design is the hallmark of the Gearhead brand and their compounds and crossbow have similar construction.

The X16 shoots compound bow arrows that snap into a trigger box and launch through a Whisker Biscuit rest. You read that correctly, this crossbow uses one of the most popular compound rests and shoots regular compound arrows.

In addition, the bow comes standard with a Triggertech trigger which is the best in the industry, in my humble opinion. Trigger function is one of the most critical elements of crossbow accuracy and this premium upgrade makes a difference.

Look Out For These Signs Of Pest Infestation In Your RV

Facebook Twitter PinterestLinkedIn

What Are The Signs Of An RV Pest Infestation?

Nobody wants to share their home with pests. This is especially true if you’re in a small space like an RV. Mice, flies, and other bugs can quickly take over your RV if you’re not paying attention. If you keep your eyes open for signs of pest infestation, you can stop these vermin before they get out of control.

Some signs are subtle, while others are quite obvious. It might not always be easy to identify the source of these issues, so look around carefully if you think that pests are to blame. Sometimes it might turn out to be mold, water damage, or mechanical problems instead. All of these are serious issues that need to be fixed, but first, you need to clearly identify the problem.

Below we have some common signs of pest infestation in RVs. If you notice one or more of these symptoms, it might be time to take action and/or call an exterminator.

Bad smell

A bad smell in the RV is one of the telltale signs that something is wrong. It may not always be due to pests, but this is a common cause. If the odor comes from moist areas like the bathroom or kitchen, the culprit might be mold.

10 Reasons You Should Travel More In Your RV

Facebook Twitter PinterestLinkedIn

Summer is starting to wind down and the RV travel season tends to go with it. RV owners look at putting their rigs in storage, emptying and winterizing the tanks, and getting ready for the flurry of holidays coming down the pipe.

This is a real shame. When summer winds down, so do the crowds, traffic, park and campground fees, hot weather, and bugs. This not only makes for a more pleasant camping experience, but it also keeps you in the RV mood, no matter what the weather.

Weather and camping conditions are just one reason to travel more in your RV. There are a few others that we want to discuss below, but before we do, we’ll talk about the elephant in the room: fuel costs.

Putting away the RV for the season will definitely save you money on gas and diesel. However, there are other things that will suffer if you quit RVing for the next six to eight months. These include your RV “muscle” memory, your rig’s systems, and even your sanity. These ten reasons go beyond just the price of fuel and cover things you may have never thought of during the RV off-season.

WAC ‘EM BROADHEADS AWARDED 2022 HUNTSTAND BEST VALUE AWARD

Earned with Penetration, Accuracy and Real Value

SUPERIOR, WI – Selected from a competitive field of 2022’s most dynamic broadhead designs, Wac ‘Em® Broadheads has earned the 2022 HuntStand Best Value Award for the Wac ‘Em 3-blade fixed broadhead. The recently-launched results of this year’s test can be seen on YouTube, where the test has been viewed nearly 30,000 times by discriminating bowhunters seeking insights into this year’s top broadhead designs.

Hand selected from a competitive field of eight premium-quality, 100-grain broadheads, the Wac ‘Em 3-blade rose above the competition to represent the “ultimate bang for your buck”. Taking into account both features and performance, the impressively consistent results in all of the 2022 Broadhead Tests’ evaluation of accuracy, penetration, deflection, manufacturing quality, and overall value allowed Wac ‘Em to edge out the competition in a very tight clash.

Stand-out performances from the compact design were noted in the penetration category where the 1 1/16-inch wide, 3-blade design posted the test’s best score while penetrating 9 ¼-inches through carpet, a 1/8-inch piece of plywood, and a clear ballistic gel medium seeking to simulate the hair, skin, and bone of a game animal. In the accuracy test, the well-manufactured design posted a consistent 3-shot group of 2 ¼ inches at 40-yards, which measured less than 1-inch greater than the control group shot with standard field points. When combine with a solid performance in the angled penetration test shot through a piece of premium ½-inch birch plywood, the stainless-steel construction of the Wac ‘Em 3-blade fixed broadhead “built an impressive case for medal contention” as stated in this year’s test video by HuntStand’s Executive Editor, Mark Melotik.

Adding to the heads’ tremendous value proposition is the included Red/Green Strobing Nockturnal FIT Nock designed to fit most arrows on the market today. At an M.S.R.P. of just $46.99, the cost was under HuntStand’s 2022 Broadhead Test average price while also including a bonus lighted nock designed to make bowhunters more successful in the field. “Add it all up… this head’s steady performance, serious bang for the buck and you have our test’s value leader,” concluded Melotik.

After four tenacious days of fishing, Huk’s Bryan Schmitt claimed his second blue trophy at the Guaranteed Rate Bassmaster Elite at Mississippi River. With a four-day total of 63 lbs. and 4 oz., Bryan edged out the second-place angler by 4 ounces for the win.

“When I won here in 2017, it flooded. It was just like this — my spot got better and better.” Schmitt said. “It’s a challenge, but I enjoy fishing in current because I feel current makes fish predictable,” Schmitt said. He leveraged his vast knowledge of how bass relate to moving water and vegetation to whittle down his spot progressively. On Monday, his winning strategy unfolded as he went all out for the win.

Schmitt relies on Huk clothing to keep him cool and comfortable on the water all year long. From shirts, pants, outerwear, rainwear, and footwear, Huk has anglers covered no matter the season or pursuit.

The blued-steel receiver offers 11mm dovetail slots, 6.75-inches long, with a metal scope stop provided. Other features of the Mod 65 include: a two-stage Quattro match trigger with metal trigger blade is adjustable for length of pull and pull weight; the Shock Absorber System (SAS) to increase accuracy potential by reducing the vibration inherent in a spring-powered airgun; and an automatic safety that engages upon breaking open the barrel and prevents the safety from being taken off while the barrel is open. The Mod 65 is a powerful, lightweight, and attractive rifle ready-to-go-out-of-the-box for use as a fun plinker or for target practice. Able to launch a lead .177 caliber pellet at up to 1100 feet-per-second and develop around 21 foot-pounds of energy, the power of Mod 65 also lends itself to be an effective small game/pest hunting tool by attaching the included 3-9x32mm Optima scope and rings that come in this combination kit. One-of-a-Kind Henry Rifle Heads to Auction for Shadow Warriors Project

Proceeds to Support Private Military Security Contractors Returning from Battle in the World’s Most Dangerous Locations

Henry Repeating Arms, one of the country’s leading firearm manufacturers, is proud to announce its latest Guns For Great Causes campaign with the donation of a one-of-a-kind New Original Henry Rifle to benefit the Shadow Warriors Project, co-founded by speaker, best-selling author, and former private military security contractor, Mark “Oz” Geist. The ornately engraved firearm is currently up for auction on Gunbroker.com, with 100% of the proceeds from the winning bid going directly to funding Shadow Warrior Project’s endeavors. Early estimates suggest the auction could exceed $50,000.

Mark Geist served in the United States Marine Corps for 12 years before deciding to extend his service to the country as a special operative contractor, where he became part of an elite security team for a CIA outpost in Benghazi, Libya. This facility would become the target of the Islamic militant group Ansar al-Sharia on September 11, 2012, and Geist is credited with saving the lives of 25 Americans during the siege. The actions of Geist and the rest of his team are depicted in the New York Times best-seller, 13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi, and a feature film titled “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.”

Shadow Warriors Project was started by Geist and his wife Krystal after he returned home mentally and physically injured, unable to work, and with no official support programs due to his status as a private contractor. Unlike active military members or veterans, there is no post-engagement support for private security contractors returning from battle overseas. The Shadow Warriors Project’s goal is to serve as a lifeline by offering financial assistance for medical bills, PTSD treatments, and other necessary rehabilitation to ease the transition into everyday civilian life. It is the only organization of its kind. Beneficiaries of the foundation are private military security contractors hired by the CIA or private firms that have conducted paramilitary security operations in some of the world’s most volatile locations.

“To learn about Mark’s service and understand what he and his brothers have gone through before, during, and after the 2012 Benghazi attack is humbling and nothing short of awe-inspiring,” says Henry Repeating Arms CEO and Founder Anthony Imperato. “Henry Repeating Arms wholeheartedly backs Mark and Krystal’s valiant mission and any organization dedicated to bettering the lives of those who sacrificed so much for our freedom and liberty. We pulled out all the stops for this rifle, so now my fingers are crossed for an auction record.”
