How Does The Harvest Hosts Membership Program Work?

Harvest Hosts is an RVer membership program that invites RVers to have unique overnight stays. I have been a Harvest Hosts member for every year I have been RVing, and it has been worth it.

It doesn’t matter whether you like wine or brews, farms or museums, and attractions or golf. There is a space for you at over 3,500+ choices across North America. And Harvest Hosts is adding hundreds of new ones every month. But just because it is one of the fastest growing RV services doesn’t mean you’ll want to join. So, why would you?

The Harvest Hosts stories

Every time my husband and I stay at a Harvest Hosts destination, we visit the owner and learn about their farm, winery, or entertainment venue.

How To Reuse Plastic Bags And Bottles In Your RV

Clever Ways To Reuse Plastic Bags & Bottles In Your RV

We live in a world that emphasizes single-use items. This is a simple truth and one that we all need to try to work around. Although many items (such as plastic bottles and grocery bags) are designed to be thrown away after a single use, many people have discovered how to reuse these items.

We tend to accumulate plastic bottles and bags in bulk, especially if you buy a lot of bottled water or forget your reusable bags at the grocery store. Although they can be reused for simple purposes like multi-use water bottles or trash can liners, many people have found unique and interesting ways to make these items useful again.

Just remember that it’s usually a good idea to thoroughly wash your bottles and bags before you use them for anything else. Plastic is sometimes porous, so it absorbs things it has touched before. Give everything a good soak and rinse before repurposing them!

How to reuse plastic bags

Plastic bags are very easy to come by, especially if you frequently go grocery shopping. Common uses for these bags include trash can liners, dog poop bags, and storage for additional grocery bags. But with a little work and imagination, you can use them for so much more!

Looking For This Year’s Bucks, Pt #1

I started using Game/Trail Cameras way back in the last half of the 90’s. The first ones took pictures on 35mm film and you had to use magnets to activate them. The pictures were good but limited to the particular role of film you used. And the magnetic deal only worked part of the time, which definitely was not a positive feature.

Last year I put out a dozen SpyPoint cellular cameras. Ok, you might be wondering how they did. To parse the answer down to one word … they Sucked.

Why? First, the pictures were blurry. The color was imprecise. The Instructions were not easy to understand. And set-up was confusing. Hmmm, troublesome to use and lousy pictures; they’re not gonna get me twice.

A couple of guys on my deer lease got their cellular pictures on Bushnell and Moultrie and their pictures were good. I pulled their websites up on my browser and read all about them. Then I bought one Moultrie Mobile camera called the EDGE. This time, before buying more I wanted to check one out.

The Moultriemobile.com website had a How To Video to set the camera up. It said ‘EDGE: Just Turn It On And Go.’ Frankly, to borrow a line from Buddy Holly, I thought, “That’ll Be The Day.”

NDA Reports 282 New Deer Stewards and 2.3 Million Acres Impacted in 2022

The National Deer Association (NDA) tallied another successful and exciting year for their Deer Steward program with a powerful lineup of courses.

“This program has proven to have such a large impact across the country and it’s really exciting to see it continue growing,” said Nick Pinizzotto, NDA President & CEO. “These programs give deer hunters the knowledge they need to go make an actual difference where they hunt. That is an extremely powerful tool when implemented on this scale and we are already seeing noticeable changes.”

2022 began with a unique in-person Deer Steward Level 1 custom course for Whitetail Properties in Illinois, followed by a Habitat Enhancement Module for their Land Specialists in Kentucky. This year also marked their biggest Deer Steward course yet, featuring a custom training for the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission in Little Rock. With nearly 90 biologists, technicians, foresters and WMA managers in attendance, this proved to be the largest audience in the program’s history. NDA has held custom courses for five other state wildlife agencies including Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio, and Tennessee.

In August, NDA wrapped up another public Level 2 course in Wisconsin alongside event partner, Vortex Optics. Vortex Optics offered a private tour for all attendees to experience their impressive headquarters and world class shooting and training facility, the Vortex Edge. With nearly 40 students from 15 states, the organizations spent several days discussing all things deer biology, habitat management, population ecology, hunting strategies and more led by NDA’s Kip Adams, Matt Ross, Ben Westfall and Dr. Craig Harper from the University of Tennessee.

Across all of NDA’s Deer Steward in-person and online courses this year, the nearly 300 attendees are projected to impact more than 2.3 million acres by implementing course knowledge on the lands they hunt or manage. The friendships, knowledge, and appreciation for deer management gained through these in-person courses are an integral part of the program. It is extremely important to the NDA that they are back in full swing, educating and interacting with deer hunters, landowners, and natural resource professionals.

Wyoming Women’s Antelope Hunt Auction Dinner Sold Out for 2022, Other Opportunities to Be a Part of the Event are Available

Clearmont, Wyo – In its momentous tenth year, the Wyoming Women’s Antelope Hunt will bring women from across the nation together at the Ranch at Ucross in northeast Wyoming for a weekend of hunting, mentorship and camaraderie from October 6-9. One much-anticipated event in a meaningful and exciting weekend of hunting and camaraderie is the annual silent and live Auction Dinner. The Wyoming Women’s Foundation (WYWF) will again host 300 guests, hunters, guides and volunteers under a tent at the Ranch at Ucross for a festive evening of fun and fundraising on Friday, October 7.

“I am so grateful to say that the Wyoming Women’s Antelope Hunt is coming into year 10 very strongly. To think of where we started and what this event has become, I am humbled. The sponsors and the greater Clearmont community around Ucross that have supported this event since day-one took a chance on a new thing in 2013 and have made it a Wyoming institution. Local landowners have invited us back each year. The guides share their time and expertise to help the women learn and grow as hunters. An ever-growing community of kind and generous people attend our Auction Dinner and Online Event. So many people have come together to make this event a success.” says Rebekah Smith, WYWF Director.

The weekend provides training on all aspects of hunting, from shooting and harvesting to processing. 46 women hunters from 12 states will attend the sold out experience this year, including 16 first-time hunters. Mentors will help the new and experienced hunters sight-in their rifles, some shooting for the first time, on Thursday, October 6. By the end of the day on Saturday, October 8, strangers will have become friends that will last a lifetime. Women attending will have gained new skills, and forged relationships that will enable them to continue their hunting journey.

The in-person dinner, silent and live auctions and raffle on October 7, 2022, at the Ranch at Ucross is sold out for 2022. However, there are still ways to get involved!

First, Auction Dinner Sponsorships are available to underwrite tables for hunters, volunteers and guides. Sponsorships benefit members of the hunt community and help raise funds for the Wyoming Women’s Foundation’s larger mission: to help women achieve economic self- sufficiency and provide opportunities for girls.

Camping World’s Guide to RVing Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve

When most people think of Colorado, they think about the Rocky Mountains and popular ski towns. The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve can often be overlooked, but it is one of the state’s most notable spots!

The sand dunes, which are believed to have started forming about 440,000 years ago from the combination of opposing winds and a huge supply of sand from the valley floor, are the tallest in North America. They’re a must-see for any RVer.

Why Visit Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in an RV?

Not only are the sand dunes a rare natural phenomenon, but the entire area surrounding the national park is filled with beauty. As you drive to the park, you’ll quickly fall in love with the San Luis Valley and be greeted with sweeping views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains on the east and the San Juan Mountains to the west.

Once inside the park, you’ll be amazed by its diversity. Its high desert landscape is home to lakes, forests, wetlands, grasslands, meadows, and shrublands. Plus, with over 100,000 acres to explore, you’re sure to find what excites you most!

Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve was also recently named one of the quietest national parks, which is just another feature that makes it feel somewhat bizarre. It’s truly a park of contrasts that you have to see to believe.

How To Manually Operate RV Slideouts

Want to get more out of your RV? Subscribe to the Camping World YouTube channel, and never miss a video.

RV slide-outs have given otherwise compact RVs more interior living space since their invention in 1915. They completely change the look and feel of your RV interior, providing more space for cooking, lounging, and entertaining guests.

But what do you do if your RV slide-outs don’t retract when you’re packing up camp?

Lubricating your slide regularly is one way to avoid this issue, but there is a way to operate RV slide-outs manually. The procedure varies based on the type of slide your RV is built with, so understanding that is your first step.

Types of RV Slide-outs

RV manufacturers use different slide-out manufacturers in their builds. While there are more than these three RV slide types, these are the most common:

The Deer Woods Reacts To Our Rain Spell

I watched the weeklong rainfall every day, wanting the rain to stay longer, or at least bring water enough to wake up the sun parched land and bring out the underlying green of native grasses and plaster some leaves on the dry brush and trees, young and old.

It took two days for the change to begin.

Deer came out during the daytime, munching leaves and twigs.

Lots of deer were depleted from our recent sizzling, dry and waterless months. I chronicled their story with a combination of my Minolta and iPhone. Below is a doe walking along a old and rusty fenceline.

Every new day was noticeably greener as new growth crept into view.
