Camping World’s Guide to RVing Grand Canyon National Park

Grand Canyon National Park is the second-most visited national park, just behind Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It’s one of America’s most distinguishable natural landmarks, not to mention one of the seven natural wonders of the entire world.

Even those that don’t venture down into the canyon during their visit are amazed by the geological forces that have shaped the region for millennia. But hiking into the Inner Gorge puts things into a whole new perspective

Why Visit Grand Canyon National Park?

The Grand Canyon is truly a sight you have to see to believe. It’s a mile deep, 277 miles long, and 18 miles wide. Photos or videos don’t do it justice as the canyon’s sheer size is astonishing.

From many points on the river, it’s impossible to catch a glimpse of the river winding by below. That river is responsible for so much of the canyon’s history, but there’s a story to be told in the layers of ancient rock visible from every angle.

It’s a bucket list destination and something everyone should see in their lifetime. Its name says it all; it’s truly “grand” and a jaw-dropping masterpiece that will leave you speechless.

April was a perfect time for my first visit to the park!

This is the Oldest-Known Photo of a Deer

When was the first-ever photograph taken of a deer? The year might surprise you, as will the species of the deer that was photographed for the first time in the U.S. It’s amazing how far photography has come in the past 25 years. 10 Most Beautiful Places According to RVers

With so many incredible places to see, how do RVers decide where to go next? Simple. They ask other RVers about the most beautiful places they’ve been! Recently, one of our RV Lifestyle Facebook Group members, Mya, did just that, and boy, she got lots of answers! (Over 500 comments!) It is a bit of a loaded question since beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But lots of comments included obscure, less-known places that offer picturesque views.

The Rise Of Female Bowhunters

The end of Vermont’s archery-only deer season is almost here, and today it’s my turn to bowhunt. A mile away, my husband prepares dinner while helping our daughter with her homework.

I see a coyote pup zigzagged through the tall brush, following a path that runs beneath my treestand. Blue jays in all directions sound their alarm.

Sixteen feet up the tree, I’m above the young predator’s radar. I watch the coyote hesitate before skirting the path that leads to my house (and dog). Instead, it climbs the rocky slope that takes it the opposite direction.

In October our home has the promise of bow season intertwined with the chaos of a busy household, working parents, school-age children and rural life. These days this scenario is increasingly common nationwide as more women take their turn in treestands to harvest meat for their families.

How To Prevent Catalytic Converter Theft

Facebook Twitter PinterestLinkedIn

Prevent Thieves From Stealing Your RV’s Catalytic Converter

Catalytic converter theft has been on the rise in recent years. Also known as the cat, catalytic converters are easy to access and quick for thieves to unbolt or cut away from the exhaust system. Thieves can steal a calalytic converter in minutes, and it is impossible to trace them back to the vehicle they came from.

Scrap metal buyers pay between $300 and $1,500 for a catalytic converter. This can be a lot of money for just a few minutes of easy work for a thief. They don’t care that this vital part of your vehicle’s exhaust system can cost thousands of dollars to replace. It really makes sense to take steps to prevent thieves from accessing your catalytic converter. In this article, we’ll look at how to prevent catalytic converter theft from your RV or truck.

Why do scrap metal dealers buy stolen catalytic converters?

Catalytic converters were developed in the early 1970s to help reduce vehicle emissions. Your converter uses the precious metals palladium, platinum, and rhodium to create a chemical reaction that results in fewer harmful emissions.

It’s not hard to figure out why scrap metal dealers are so eager to buy catalytic converters from thieves. On the commodity market, palladium and rhodium have really gone up in value over the last five years. While the value of platinum has fallen over the last year, it’s still worth a lot of money. To see why scrap metal dealers like buying catalytic converters from thieves, let’s look at a five-year price comparison:

Just like learning about anything else, the best way to learn about RVing is by doing it. But when you are new to the RV lifestyle, owning an RV can be a little nerve-wracking. When it comes to RVing, most of us are never as nervous as we are on that first trip, bringing the RV home from the RV dealer. Aside from the nail-biting first journey home, we’ve wondered what other experiences RVers had as new RVers.

So, we reached out to the RVing community and asked seasoned RVers to share the best firsthand experience they had as a new RVer. The response from our fellow RVers was enthusiastic, and we have eight wonderful anecdotes to share with you.

Camping Alone To Bowhunt Elk

Camping alone on top of a mountain can be a fear inducing proposition. Sometimes you feel like you’re the perfect late night snack for a wandering hungry black bear. My senses were on hyper alert on those mountain hunts. A blade of grass or a thin limb brushing the fabric of my tent caused my heart to pound inside  my chest. Darkness led to fear until I felt I was the main character in a Stephen King novel.

Hunters push further and further hoping to unlock the numerous secrets of the woods. That curiosity can get us in over our heads and at times cause a paralyzing fear. As uncomfortable as it may be, following our curiosity and the challenges of the hunt creates an opportunity for personal growth. Before long, what we once thought of as impossible now resides right in our wheel house.

On September 2nd, the night before opening day of Montana’s archery elk season, curiosity, stemmed from years of my natural progression as a hunter and helping friends to pack elk out of some absolute pits around the state, had me hiking into a pit of my own. A basin that I had always shied away from due to its remoteness and the seeming impossibility of extracting an elk from. I made it to the trailhead at 10 PM. After a 4 hour hike to the ridge overlooking the basin, then 4 hours of sleep, I dove in at first light.

At last light that evening, during a raging storm, I snuck up on a wallowing bull and sent a well placed arrow at 40 yards. I was alone and 7 miles from my truck. The high of harvesting an elk quickly turned into that sobering “here we go” moment as I knew the next 48 hours would be an all out grind. 4 hours later I had the bull deboned and all the meat hanging. By 8am I got the first load of meat out to the trail head. It was an all-night slog with a short pitstop at my snow covered tent. Unbeknownst to me, my tent was leaky and inside my sleeping pad was literally floating in a pool of water. Lesson learned.

Thankfully I had two friends that eagerly drove 2 hours to help after getting my ‘bull down’ text. After enduring the wettest, snowiest conditions I’ve ever encountered in Montana, we got the remaining 250 pounds of meat out.

Camping World’s Guide to RVing Wind Cave National Park

As the world’s first cave to be named a national park, Wind Cave is an outstanding addition to the National Park Service. It is the world’s longest and most complex cave system, with 149 miles of explored passages containing intricate box work and frostwork formations.

Many miss its allure by only noticing the undulating prairie that lies above this geologic anomaly. In fact, the cave’s discovery by white Americans came from two brothers peering into a 10” x 14” hole as the wind whistled out of it. By knocking the hat off the boys’ heads, Wind Cave acquired a name and a reputation.

Why Visit Wind Cave National Park in an RV?

Wind Cave is an excellent destination for RVers who enjoy hidden gems underground and the rolling hills and ranchland above. The park has one campground with plenty of space for motorhomes and travel trailers.

After hiking over scenic trails, then cooling off in the cave, RVers quickly realize that Wind Cave National Park has even more going for it.

The park lies amid many other nationally recognized attractions. In fact, its northern border is next to the popular Custer State Park. Crazy Horse Memorial and Mount Rushmore National Memorial are also nearby.

Camping World’s Guide to Camp Lanterns

One of the most exciting aspects of camping begins when the sun goes down, and the stars come out. By the warmth of the campfire, you can toast marshmallows to make the most epic S’more while listening to the lovely sounds of nature.

But beyond the campfire glow lies the dark of night, and what you can’t see can often ruin a good time. Luckily, camp lanterns can save the day — or rather save the night – by illuminating more of your campsite and providing a valuable backup light source in the event of an RV power outage. Not only for RVs, camp lanterns also prove handy to have for the home as an essential part of any storm kit.

From lanterns that double as bug zappers (like the Personal Mosquito Zapper with LED Lantern) to Bluetooth speakers that look like lanterns (like the iJoy Lumina Light-Up Lantern Speaker), you have plenty of options to light up your campsite and let the good times continue as long, and as late, as possible.

Not sure which camp lantern is best for you? No worries. Check out this guide to camp lanterns and let Camping World light the way.

The Brightness of Your Camp Lantern

Before choosing a type, ask yourself how bright you want your camp lantern. Lumens, which measure and determine how bright a light is, are the metric to look at in terms of a lantern’s light output. The higher the number of lumens, the brighter the light will be.

NEBO OMNI 3K: The Bright, Reliable, Worksite Light

One essential thing on any worksite facing a deadline is a bright, realizable lighting source.

Whether the job runs late into the evening or an indoor worksite that needs a lot of illumination, a tool that can brighten up the workspace so the job can get done is invaluable. In these situations, the last thing needed is a heavy, bulky, hot work light with twisting power cables that leave half of the job site not adequately illuminated. Plus, this is an additional work hazard. These situations call for a bright, easily maneuverable LED-based lighting source that will keep the site brightly lit while being simple to power, easy to carry, and a snap to use.

The new NEBO OMNI 3K is that lighting source, the world’s most versatile work light.

With a powerful 3,000-lumen DUAL C•O•B output, the OMNI 3K is an Omni-directional work light with an adjustable, magnetic handle and dual rotating lighting panels for bright, hands-free light all around the work project.

With six light modes, including two dual light, two single light and two red light settings ranging from 8 – 70 meters, the OMNI 3K is perfect for any size job site. It has a battery range of 1 – 8 hours in white light mode and 11 – 20 hours in red light mode depending on the chosen setting.

Rock River Arms New Semi-Auto Hunting Rifle – All Terrain Hunter (ATH)

Colona, IL – There is no doubt we are in the “golden age” of semi-auto rifles with companies like Rock River Arms continuing to offer top-quality rifles designed with premium materials and strict quality control — all sold at reasonable prices. Rock River Arms earned their reputation by manufacturing some of the most accurate and reliable semi-auto rifles for the law enforcement and civilian markets. Now for 2022, the company ups the game for hunters with the introduction of the All-Terrain Hunter (ATH), a mid-length rifle that stands tall in the field of AR-platform hunting rifles.

Designed specifically with the modern hunter in mind, the ATH rifle’s precision 18-inch heavy match stainless steel barrel is cryogenically treated for maximum stability and accuracy even under high-volume shooting conditions. Chambered in .223 WYLDE to accommodate both 5.56mm and .223 Remington hunting ammunition, the ATH barrel incorporates a 1:8 twist rate and boasts a guaranteed 3/4 MOA accuracy at 100 yards.

The barrel mates to a forged A4 upper receiver and is shrouded by a 13-inch extended lightweight free-float handguard. The co-witnessed, full-length rail system offers plenty of room for high-magnification optics and thermal gear for late-night varmint hunting while the M-LOK® compatible handguard ensures ample mounting positions for bipods, slings, and lights.

Hunter ergonomics also score high marks with the RRA ATH. A winter trigger guard provides ample room for the trigger finger even when wearing heavy gloves. The Hogue pistol grip also accommodates gloved hands with its no-slip rubber coating and prominent finger grooves. To meet changing shooting scenarios and clothing requirements, a six-position RRA Operator CAR buttstock rounds out the lower receiver assembly. With its generous cheek weld and textured buttplate, this stock makes it easy to maintain a secure and comfortable sight picture in a fast-paced hunting environment. The stock also incorporates multiple quick-detach sling mounting points and a watertight battery storage compartment.

Hunters will appreciate the ATH’s operational controls. The star safety selector, for example, is easy to manipulate when wearing gloves. More noteworthy is the inclusion of RRA’s world-class Two-Stage Ultra Match Varmint Trigger. With its light take-up, crisp break and 3.5 – 4 lbs. pull weight, this trigger goes a long way toward minimizing shooter-induced shot disturbance—a critical factor in long-range accuracy.

The Waypoint Collection features a hoodie, long sleeve shirt, polo, men’s 7.5” shorts, women’s 2.5” shorts, and men’s pants.

Converting plastic waste into more practical applications like clothing made from recycled materials is an effective way to reduce the impact of single-use plastics on the environment. Huk partnered with REPREVE® to incorporate these recycled materials into its Waypoint line to help reduce plastic pollution. The collection will have the same unique Huk style but with an eco-friendly twist. On average, nine recycled plastic bottles are used to create one item in the Waypoint collection. The blended fabric provides flexibility and stretches while maintaining shape and fit.

The Waypoint hoodie and long sleeve shirt feature 62% recycled polyester, 33% rayon, and 5% spandex. The lightweight recycled yarns are used to create an environmentally sound garment without sacrificing comfort or functionality. The hoodie and long sleeve shirt feature cooling fibers that work to remove heat from the surface of the skin, keeping anglers more comfortable and on the water longer. The hoodie is available in men’s and women’s sizes.

The Waypoint polo is the perfect choice for dressing up an outfit a little bit. The polo features 62% recycled polyester, 33% rayon, and 5% spandex resulting in a comfortable, lightweight product. The polo has the same cooling fibers as the hoodie, which will keep outdoorsmen cool and out in the sun longer. It is rated 50+ UPF for ultimate protection against the sun and features a chest pocket for storing lightweight items.

The Waypoint men’s 7.5” shorts are a perfect combination of style and comfort. The performance shorts are made from 37% recycled polyester, 35% polyester, 20% cotton, and 8% spandex and feature a moisture-wicking waistband. This combination provides superior stretch, mobility, and sun protection for a full day of water-filled activities. Ideal for both fresh- and saltwater fishing applications, the shorts are quick-drying and stain-resistant. Houston Safari Club Foundation (HSCF) and “Hunting Matters” welcomes Chris Williams of Williams Knife Company

Inspired by his grandfather, Chris Williams is a second-generation knife maker. He watched his grandfather craft knives from discarded bandsaw blades in his workshop. This prompted Chris to create his own style of knives that were as beautiful as they were functional. This “hobby” continued to blossom as he made knives for friends until he ultimately walked away from a promising career as an investment banker to fully dedicate his energy into creating legendary knives.

In 2005, Williams Knife Company was born and what has evolved has become a veritable artform. His big break came in 2010 when he crafted a new style of oyster knife that he named “The Edisto”, designed specifically for the small cluster oysters found along the east coast, which won the overall 2011 Made in the South award from Garden & Gun Magazine.
