Pan-seared Cod

Pan-seared cod is a delicious and healthy dish that's easy to prepare. Cod is a mild-flavored fish that pairs well with a variety of seasonings and sauces. Here's a basic recipe for pan-seared cod:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cod fillets (about 6-8 ounces each)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • 1 lemon, sliced into rounds or wedges (for garnish)
  • Fresh herbs (such as parsley, dill, or thyme), for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cod:
    • Pat the cod fillets dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture. This will help the fish sear properly.
    • Season both sides of the fillets with salt and black pepper.
  2. Preheat the Pan:
    • Use a heavy-bottomed skillet or non-stick pan. Heat the olive oil or butter over medium-high heat until it's hot but not smoking.
  3. Sear the Cod:
    • Place the cod fillets in the hot pan. Cook without moving them for about 3-4 minutes on one side, depending on the thickness of the fillets. You'll know it's ready to flip when the edges start to turn golden brown, and the fish releases easily from the pan.
    • Carefully flip the fillets using a spatula and cook the other side for another 3-4 minutes, or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. Cooking time may vary depending on the thickness of the fish. Avoid overcooking, as it can result in dry fish.
  4. Optional Garlic Infusion:
    • If you'd like to add a hint of garlic flavor, you can add minced garlic to the pan during the last 1-2 minutes of cooking. Sauté the garlic for a short time until it's aromatic but not browned.
  5. Garnish and Serve:
    • Remove the cod from the pan and place it on serving plates.
    • Garnish with fresh herbs and lemon slices or wedges.
  6. Enjoy!

You can serve pan-seared cod with your choice of sides, such as steamed vegetables, a simple green salad, or a grain like quinoa or rice. The mild and flaky cod is versatile and pairs well with various sauces and seasonings, making it an excellent choice for a quick and healthy meal.
