TrueTimber® Ambassador Rob Keck Secures Top Finishes in Alabama and Kansas Governor’s Turkey Hunts

TrueTimber brand ambassador Rob Keck recently landed top finishes in both the Alabama and Kansas Governor’s One-Shot Turkey hunts. Keck received the Top Gun award in the Kansas event, submitting the top bird overall and finished close second in the Alabama event. Rob bagged both birds wearing TrueTimber Strata camo while using a TriStar Viper G2 .410 shotgun, also featuring TrueTimber Strata camo.

“It was an honor to participate in these hunts with so many friends, industry professionals and political leaders,” said Keck. “Both of these events put out a strong statement for the preservation of hunting and its importance to these states and their economies. The competition aspect of these events is a lot of fun, but the real impact is having all these influential people gathered in one spot, pursuing a passion for hunting and conservation and having those key conversations to continue those efforts.”

Rob Keck has been a driving force in conservation and hunting for more than four decades. His leadership for 30 years, 27 as the CEO of the National Wild Turkey Federation, directed the return of the wild turkey across North America. Keck recently retired after twelve years as Director of Conservation for Bass Pro Shops. A passionate and accomplished big game hunter that has hunted above the Arctic Circle to Argentina, Keck was the first hunter to take a wild turkey in every state with a turkey season, plus birds in Canada, Mexico, Guatemala and New Zealand. Keck has been a state, US Open and World Turkey Calling Champion.

“Rob has been such a great ambassador for our brand and it’s always great to see TrueTimber camo at the top of the leaderboard,” said TrueTimber CEO Rusty Sellars. “He has had such a substantial impact on hunting and conservation over the course of his career and it’s really exciting to see the initiatives he continues to drive within the outdoor community. We congratulate Rob on his wins and look forward to seeing more great work out of him.”

Z-Man® Lures Crush it at Bassmaster Kayak Contest

Stealth-boat frontman Drew Gregory wins at Grand Lake, Oklahoma

With the soul of an explorer, Drew Gregory embarks on kayak treks free from the limitations that tie most anglers to used water. To go beyond big public boat ramps. To sidestep fossil fuels altogether. Unbound by the intrusions of 1-ton bass rigs, Gregory designs and fishes from ‘sneak boats,’ stealthy kayaks light enough to slide silently through the woods toward otherwise impossible-to-reach bass zones.

Matching his minimalist approach at the recent Bassmaster Kayak Series tourney at Grand Lake, Oklahoma, the cutting-edge kayak angler toted just a small bag of tackle and a few Ziplocs of his favorite ElaZtech® softbaits. By the end of Saturday, April 16, the renowned Kent, Ohio pro was clutching a fat check and a 1st place trophy—the fruits of 91.5-inches of portly, prespawn largemouth bass; 8-inches more than 2nd place angler Daniel Maffei.

It was Gregory’s first win on the Bassmaster Kayak Series. Yet the victory merely punctuated what has already been a prosperous kayak fishing career, highlighted by an Angler of the Year title and national tournament win the Hobie BOS circuit, plus a gold medal in the Pan American Kayak Championships.

Employing a stealth-like approach with a pair of Z-Man lures, Gregory paddled his silent 10-foot Crescent Ultralite kayak way up into a sneaky, remote spawning pocket just off the main lake—a spot he found via meticulous map study. “Though I’d never fished the lake before, my intention was absolutely to come in here, figure it out and win,” said Gregory, whose current goals include a Bassmaster Kayak Angler of the Year title.

Kyocera DuraSport 5G UW Review

I have to be honest, I have never reviewed a phone before. It was a little intimidating taking on something like this. I find It’s a whole lot easier reviewing hunting gear, boots, camping gear and hiking gear. Phones are more complicated. All that aside, I found the Kyocera DuraSport 5G UW to be a small, ruggedly designed phone with plenty of features.

Why a rugged phone like the DuraSport?

Most people have an iPhone or an Android, but we also know they are super expensive. Kyocera is now offering an affordable alternative: the DuraSport 5G. This phone lets you take advantage of the capability of 5G no matter where you are on the grid. They pair the reliability of the Verizon network with a rugged design to withstand whatever outdoorsmen and folks who work outside throw at it. This phone is tested to withstand drops, sand, extreme temperatures and water without failure.

Whether you are on the ranch, on the farm, at the construction site or in the outdoors you need your phone to be able to be there when and if you need it. This phone comes with a full 2-year standard warranty, and you do not need an additional case to keep it safe. The protection for this phone is integrated into the design. The phone is engineered to have a smaller, slimmer foot print. As well, this model is built to use the 5G network to provide fast video and video chats. If you are looking to show off the kiddo’s first wild turkey to grandma or share a video of a work project with a customer, fast video is important these days.

The camera is more than adequate during the day and excelled in low-light conditions. The programmable button on the side of the phone made it easy to take snaps and shoot video. This unit is set up to use the Android operating system and works with all of the major apps. We downloaded several and all worked great. The DuraSport comes with Qi Wireless charging or USB-C charging.

We found the Kyocera DuraSport 5G UW to be a capable phone that lasted over 34 hours of pretty solid use. We took calls, sent texts, sent photos, checked emails and shot close to 50 photos and about 3 minutes of video during that time. Charging was simple and easy and fast with the USB-C 27W brick and cable provided. Qi Wireless charging was at 8.1w and still seemed pretty quick.

6 Tips for Enhancing Your Hunting Experience

Hunting is an exciting experience, but it requires patience, accuracy, and proper preparation. Are you tired of going home empty-handed after a hunting trip? Read on for five tips to improve your skills and enhance your hunting experience.

1.   Research

Before you begin your hunt, conduct in-depth research to understand better the animal you want to capture. Take time to learn more about your target prey’s behavior and the most suitable way to track it. Some signs you could use to track animals include trampled grass, fresh bed, scattered rocks, snapped tree limbs, or animal trails. You should then determine the target prey’s habitat to plan your next hunting location better. By doing enough research before the hunting day, you will learn all you need to know about different animals to ensure the success of your hunt.

2.   Pick the right gear

Be sure to invest in the right gear before you set out to hunt to improve your hunting game, beat your competition and prevent yourself from struggling to meet your hunting goals. Your hunting gear includes transportation, apparel, and your favorite 22 rifles.

When choosing the right apparel for your hunt, you should consider the hunting location. Different locations have distinct weather conditions that may impact your hunting performance, so you need to conduct intensive research on the area and the weather to pick the right gear. Tools like binoculars, riflescopes, crossbows, and low-range rifles, to mention a few, can significantly improve the success of your hunt.

3.   Practice shooting

Shooting off-target allows your prey to take flight, so you need to dedicate sufficient time and effort to practice to ensure the success of your hunt. Be sure to practice pulling the trigger of the firearm you intend to use. The more you practice, the easier it will be to identify the ideal pressure for your trigger.

FAST AND FRIENDLY BRASS 5.56 BRASS QUALIFIER SEPARATES THE GOOD FROM THE BAD

This Tool Takes a Tedious Job and Automates it for Increased
Volume and Faster Production

Farmington, MO – Fast and Friendly Brass, a premier brand in tooling and processing equipment and supplies for optimal efficiency in brass loading and reloading, is proud to offer the 5.56 Brass Qualifier, a machine designed to speed up processing and reloading 5.56 ammo.

“Every commercial brass processor and reloader knows that sorting good 5.56 brass from bad is the absolute worst part of the job.” said Bill Birmingham, Owner of Fast and Friendly Brass. “It is mind-numbing work that can be hard on the hands and even harder on the eyes. Our machine automates this job, reducing the time it takes to get good brass ready for loading and speeding up the production. It also cuts costs and provides uniform quality of brass.”

The Fast & Friendly 5.56 Brass Qualifier can be tuned to allow or disallow any diameter neck size, depending on how tolerant your press or other equipment is to misshapen brass. This machine automatically rejects blanks, cases with crushed necks, and live ammo. The design of this machine ensures that the brass being fed into your presses or other equipment won’t break your equipment. The Qualifier will not check for case dents, nor will it sort by headstamp. How fast is it? A single Fast & Friendly 5.56 Brass Qualifying machine can check up to 12,000 cases per hour, limited only by collator speed. For the best results, we suggest pairing the Brass Qualifier with the Fast & Friendly Brass Collator, giving you the ability to produce at higher volumes. For more information, go to fastandfriendlybrass.com.

About Fast and Friendly Brass
Fast and Friendly Brass is owned in whole by Bill Birmingham of Farmington, MO. The company started out processing and selling brass in the St. Louis area starting in 2012 and nationally in 2014. In late 2015 Fast and Friendly Brass stopped processing brass to focus on a bigger need in the market – better tooling and equipment to improve the efficiency of reloading and brass processing. Since then, the company has become an industry leader in high-quality products to make reloading more precise and efficient. Learn more at fastandfriendlybrass.com.

SPRO’s Pin Tail Soft Plastic Baits Trigger Bites From Finicky Bass

When reluctant bass call for the ultimate in finesse approaches, SPRO’s Pin Tail soft plastic baits deliver in a big way. The two finesse baits provide big action in a small package, with a wiggle that no bass can resist. Even though the tantalizing action is more than enough to get the job done, SPRO® infused both of the designs with Amino Bite Scent to trigger the most reluctant bass to strike.

The two baits, the Pin Tail Stick and the Pin Tail Minnow, are made using high-quality Japanese plastic that provides lots of action while remaining durable enough to catch multiple fish. These baits are infused with Amino Bite Scent that creates a scent trail that leads fish to it, and the custom amino acid blend entices them to bite. In addition, each bait is infused with salt, which makes them even more enticing to bass.

The single tail on the Pin Tail Stick moves even when the bait is standing still, providing enticing, fluttering action no matter how you fish it. While there’s no wrong way to fish the Pin Tail Stick, it’s perfect for Neko, Texas, or Wacky rigging. The Pin Tail Stick is available in both 3.75” and 5” versions, so you can downsize when the bite gets really tough. A wide variety of colors, including Clear Gill, Cinnamon Mint, Spring Craw and Real Mimizu, let you match the hatch when you need to or stand out from the crowd.

The Pin Tail Minnow provides double the action, with a pair of tails that offers more fluttering action. The key is the hole in the tail section, which creates an even more tantalizing wiggle. The unique action is deadly on a drop-shot rig or swam on a jig head. Colors such as Ayu, Clear Chartreuse, Ozark Craw and Phantom Green are ideal for a broad range of water clarity and conditions. The Pin Tail Minnow is offered in both 2.75” and 3.75” lengths, perfectly sized to convince the wariest bass to bite.

Available in an array of fish-catching colors and infused with Amino Bite Scent, the Pin Tail series of soft plastic baits provide the action finesse anglers need to get bites on the toughest days. These baits deliver a wiggle that no bass can resist, with one tail or two.

SPRO® Pocket Tail Minnow Premium Swimbait

Boot-tail swimbaits have proven their worth as both jig trailers and as standalone lures on either a weighted hook or a jighead. However, not all soft swimbaits are created equally. SPRO’s Pocket Tail Minnow leaves the competition in the dust with a list of features that’ll turn the heads of inshore species like redfish, sook, trout and flounder.

The Pocket Tail Minnow is a 3.75-inch stick of dynamite, the perfect size for backwater fishing applications. Whether fish want a snack or a meal or to defend their territory, this lure appeals to all of their senses and antagonizes them in a manner that produces vicious strikes. At first glance, the Pocket Tail Minnow may look similar to other swimbaits in its class, but upon closer inspection – and indeed, when retrieved through the water – the differences are remarkably apparent. The hard-thumping tail contains a small pocket that provides a different sound profile than any other lure – so pressured fish will still be susceptible to this presentation. Meanwhile, the heavily ribbed body pushes a ton of water, so it calls a wide range of fish species from a distance, in clear water and dirty water alike.

SPRO’s Pocket Tail Minnow gives anglers the edge they need when targeting many light-tackle saltwater species. Made from a highly resilient elastomer, the Dura-Tough material is infused with Amino Bite Scents. Amino Bite Scent creates a scent trail that fish key in on, and the custom amino acid blend triggers strikes by activating fishes’ predatory instincts. Amino Bite Scent‘s unique formulation perfectly mimics the smell and taste of baitfish. The scent even helps fish locate the bait in heavy cover, where sight distance is limited.

Poured from a premium Japanese soft plastic recipe, the Pocket Tail Minnow is the perfect combination of durability, softness and action. The innovative, elastomer material is super strong, so the Pocket Tail Minnow lasts fish after fish. The tough construction of the bait stands up to even tough saltwater predators. The durable material floats, giving the bait the buoyancy it needs to add even more action to lures. The added floatation helps keep bait up in the water column, so anglers can stay in the strike zone longer.

The Pocket Tail Minnow is available in 16 proven colors, perfectly matched to different forage bases and water conditions, so you’ll always have the right tool for the job.

Remington Partners with Blood Origins for Arkansas Black Bear Conservation

Remington Ammunition is excited to announce their new partnership with Blood Origins, a nonprofit organization dedicated to conservation. Remington will be joining the organization as a mission supporter and part of Blood Origin’s Conservation Club.

“We look forward to this partnership with Blood Origins,” said Joel Hodgdon, Remington Director of Marketing. “Their global initiatives are something we’re proud to help support. Being able to do so in our home state of Arkansas while aiding in conservation is important to Big Green.”

Blood Origins funds conservation projects in the US and abroad, completing boots-on-the-ground work while simultaneously telling the story of hunting’s positive impact on wildlife and communities.

The partnership with Blood Origins comes about as the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission prepares to collect new information on their black bear population by putting collars on bears in the Gulf Coastal Plain of Arkansas. With the help of Blood Origins, data gathered throughout this initiative will be used to directly monitor black bear populations and assess growth rates needed for sustaining the black bear population.

“Remington has joined in our mission of conveying the truth about hunting and hunters,” said Robbie Kroger, Founder of Blood Origins. “With Remington’s support, we’re able to continue to share a message of conservation through scientific study and impact.”

Available in .177, .22, and .25 calibers, it can be fine-tuned and tailored to various competitions and shooting styles. Among its many features is the ability to accept commercially available pistol grips and buttstocks made for modern sporting rifles and a reversible cocking lever for ambidextrous operation.

You’ll find that the ergonomic pistol grip is covered in a soft, durable rubber and is textured to provide maximum grip and control. The 5-position telescoping buttstock also features an elevation adjustable cheek rest that can be moved in 5mm increments up to 40mm tall, or it can be removed for low-profile optics. Hatsan’s famous fully adjustable Quattro Trigger now includes a trigger pad that can be moved vertically and rotated left or right for maximum precision and comfort.

The Factor RC’s power output is also highly adjustable, featuring an externally adjustable pressure regulator with its own output pressure gauge. A power level knob controls the amount of air transferred into the barrel. On the opposite side, a hammer preload adjuster helps fine-tune power output and cocking effort and features a removable 580cc carbon fiber air tank. The Factor RC is also equipped with a Foster-style quick-disconnect fill inlet. In place of the normal fill nozzle, an extended QD is included. An integrated color-coded manometer allows the system pressure to be easily monitored at a glance.

The 23-inch-long precision rifled and choked barrel will ensure accuracy, while Hatsan’s QuietEnergy technology full-length barrel shroud will reduce noise output. A standard ½” UNF threaded muzzle piece is included to allow a larger sound moderator or air stripper to be added without modifications. To round out the Factor RC’s features, 2 high-capacity SwingLoad magazines (that can be linked together to facilitate faster mag changes) and a single shot tray for precision loading are included, a picatinny rail installed beneath the forearm, along with a combination optic system that will accept Picatinny, Weaver, and 11mm dovetail mounts.

Ducks Unlimited celebrates Earth Day 2022

Friday, April 22, is the 52nd annual celebration of Earth Day

Ducks Unlimited (DU) encourages you to celebrate Earth Day by getting outdoors and experiencing the natural wonders around us. Earth Day 2022 is April 22, and this year’s theme is “Invest in Our Planet.”

DU has invested in our planet since its founding in 1937 because DU conserves, restores and manages wetlands and associated habitats for North America’s waterfowl. These positive impacts on our natural ecosystems also benefit people and communities through cleaner water and air, improved flood control, carbon storage, recreational opportunities and climate regulation.

“In 2021, Team DU celebrated a monumental conservation milestone by restoring or protecting more than 15 million acres of habitat in North America since its founding,” said DU Chief Conservation Officer Karen Waldrop. “Thanks to the commitment of DU’s volunteers, members, partners and staff, we invest in our planet every day.”

Here is some information on just a few of the places across North America where Ducks Unlimited is investing in our planet.
