Team Winchester’s Dania Vizzi and Jake Wallace Capture Gold at World Cup in Peru

The World Cup tournaments of the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) are a qualification path to participation in the Olympic shooting events.  And the most recent World Cup in Lima, Peru (March 27-April 7), saw the U.S. topping the medal count, with Team Winchester bringing home its share of the gold.

With the support of legendary AA® shotshells, two of Team Winchester’s best, Dania Vizzi and Casey “Jake” Wallace, ascended to the center of the podiums for their matches.

Dania Vizzi put in a stellar performance medaling in gold twice.  First, she won women’s skeet over a fellow American shooter, by a single target.  Then she and her women’s team skeet squad went on to defeat the Italian team decisively in the final. Vizzi notched two of Team USA’s four recorded gold medals in Lima, Peru. Men’s team trap sent Wallace and his squad into a shootout with always-formidable Spain, where they won the gold by a single target.

“We at Winchester are extremely proud of Dania and Jake for their victories in Lima, and the performance of Team Winchester this World Cup season,” said Matt Campbell, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Winchester Ammunition.  “It is extremely impressive to watch Team Winchester members compete against the world’s best sport shooters and come out on top.”

With 11 total medals, the Americans earned nearly twice as many as the next best country, Italy, which won six. Congratulations to all Team USA shooters for their success in Peru. Next on the calendar will be the World Cup in Lonato del Garda, Italy, April 19-30. You can look for Vizzi and Wallace, and Team Winchester, to compete there with their eyes on even more gold.

DC PROJECT RELEASES VIDEO TO COMBAT GUN CONTROL LIES

We’re of Offense Now!

The DC Project, Women for Gun Rights, a nationwide grassroots organization of women dedicated to safeguarding the Second Amendment, today released a new video titled, We’re on Offense Now. The educational video explains the truth about the demonization of gun owners and that misinformation about responsible gun ownership will no longer be tolerated.

“I have listened to their lies, and I have taken their punches, but I refuse to stay silent any longer,” declares Dianna Muller, Founder of the DC Project, at the beginning of the piece. “If we expect to preserve our Constitutional rights, we cannot continue to sit on the sidelines. We must speak up and have conversations today. The truth is powerful, so please share this video.”

DC Project Advisory Board member Beth Walker discusses the organization’s reach and how it reflects every facet of women in America who own guns. “The individuals who are vocal gun control proponents have no idea what responsible firearms owners look like. They are surprised to learn that women own or even want guns. They simply cannot imagine that moms, daughters, and grandmas exercise their freedom to choose firearms as a way to defend themselves. Help us show them the truth with this video,” she asks.

We’re on Offense Now also features professional shooter and Venezuelan immigrant Gabby Franco. She saw first-hand what happened in her country when the right to bear arms was stripped from its citizens. “Anti-gun messaging drove the people of my homeland to accept the lies that convinced them to relinquish their freedoms. Their consent left my people unable to protect themselves from tyranny.”

An Insider’s Account of Cooper Gallant’s Bassmaster Open Victory

G. Loomis and Shimano Connect Young Canadian Angler with Success

Cooper Gallant is one of the brightest rising stars in tournament bass fishing. Competing in a full slate of nine Bassmaster Open events this season, this energetic 24-year old Canadian is reaching for lofty goals – including a coveted spot on the Bassmaster Elite Series – as he leverages his expertise against fields of talented, ambitious anglers. At the recent Bassmaster Southern Open event on Cherokee Lake near Knoxville, Tennessee, Gallant moved closer to achieving his on-the-water goals by claiming his first Open Championship, a distinction that carries with it another prestigious prize: A spot in the 2023 Bassmaster Classic.

“I have been fishing bass tournaments for over ten years, competing in my first when I was 13,” reflected Gallant on the day after he traveled to the site of the upcoming Northern Open on the James River. “That first event hooked me, and I’ve focused everything I’ve done since then on climbing to fishing’s highest competitive level – the Bassmaster Elite Series.” True to his north-of-the-border origins, Gallant has an innate affinity for smallmouth bass. “I love chasing smallies,” offered Gallant, “and as it turns out, every fish I weighed at Cherokee Lake was a true bronze beauty – and this is how I caught ‘em.”

“We had some cool days and cold nights during the practice period before the event. Although the timing was right for shallow bedding fish to dominate the bite, I worked to develop a pattern that wouldn’t be impacted as badly by fickle spring weather. Starting on my second practice day, I figured out how to find and catch staging offshore smallies in water that was anywhere from 15 to 30 feet deep. I was able to locate some nice schools of bass, and dialed in that bite on the third practice day. As we approached the event, however, the weather started warming. I saw that my groups of fish were getting smaller as bass moved toward the bank. I felt like I would have to keep an open mind and be willing to adjust from my deep pattern to chasing shallow spawners if that really kicked into high gear on competition days.”

Fortune smiled on Gallant as he lowered his trolling motor into the water on the first tournament day. “I was fired up to see that the water was still cold – right around 52 degrees – which meant I should still be able to make it work with staging fish. Within the first 10 minutes of fishing on that first day, I already had 15 pounds of smallies swimming in the livewell, and I knew I had a shot at earning some important points toward Elite qualification – and maybe even winning the event and a trip to the Classic. My primary presentation was a Damiki Rig, with a 4-inch fluke rigged on a ⅜-ounce Smeltinator jig. I also threw a drop-shot rig with an X-Zone Hot Shot 3 ¼-inch Minnow in the green pumpkin/blue pattern anchored by a ¼-ounce weight. These are two classic ways to bag smallies back home, and I was excited to see that Cherokee Lake bass were also fired up by them.”

Industry Leaders Return to CMP’s Talladega for Second Annual Shooting Sports Showcase

TALLADEGA, Ala. – On March 14-15, 2022, the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) Talladega Marksmanship Park in Alabama played host to the second annual Shooting Sports Showcase – a private opportunity for marksmanship wholesalers, dealers and media members.

Over 20 exhibitors like Century Arms, Bowden Tactical, Leupold, Trailblazer Firearms and others sponsored booths for the Shooting Sports Showcase, highlighting their own innovative products currently circulating within the industry. The day of promotion and fellowship was jointly hosted by the Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA), the Southeastern Outdoor Press Association (SEOPA) and the National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers (NASGW).

Those in attendance were not only open to viewing and holding products but were even able to test them out on the range.

The 2022 Shooting Sports Showcase was held on an overcast, cold and rainy day, but the dismal weather didn’t stop the crowd of spectators from enjoying the 500 acres of rifle, pistol, shotgun and archery areas of the outdoor Talladega facility. Exhibitors, ranging from nationally-known to new-on-the-scene, demonstrated fresh products and groundbreaking accessories through interactive displays that included competitions and prizes for guests. The event allowed media representatives to gain a hands-on preview into the future of marksmanship technology as well as to discuss existing trends – all while receiving a personal tour of the Talladega grounds.

“There were plenty of things to see, touch and, most importantly, shoot,” remarked POMA member Jim Shepherd, who attended the event.

Industry leaders were spread throughout the 500 acres of the park, displaying their latest products.

Within his own article featured on The Outdoor Wire online newsletter, Shepherd expressed enthusiasm for not only the products available for viewing during the Shooting Sports Showcase but the opportunity to speak one-on-one with experts as well – learning directly from the professionals in a safe and engaging environment.

Local NWTF Chapter Partners with Agencies to Improve Habitat and Ecosystem

The NWTF’s local Cherokee Chapter recently partnered with the USDA Forest Service and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency to improve wildlife habitat and prevent the encroachment of invasive plant species in Tennessee’s Cherokee National Forest.

The Cherokee Chapter donated $2,500, via the Tennessee State Chapter, to TWRA, which leveraged the local chapter’s donation with Pittman-Robertson funds (dollars from hunters and shooting sports enthusiasts), providing a total of $10,000 for partnership work on the Sylco area of the national forest, just this spring.

Autumn olive, one of the targeted invasive species in this project, was once planted for erosion control in the past. Over the years, however, it has spread, and now is outcompeting native plant species throughout the forest. The encroachment of autumn olive reduces the quality of habitat for wild turkeys, other wildlife and decreases the overall biodiversity.

“We, along with TWRA and NWTF, are doing our best to remove the plant from wildlife openings to attempt to gain control of its invasion throughout the Forest,” said Bo Reynolds, biological science technician of the Cherokee National Forest.

The recent partnership between the local NWTF Cherokee Chapter, TWRA and the Forest Service helped regulate the encroachment of the invasive species through a variety of forest management practices, including mulching, mowing and herbicide applications. Forest Service biologists state they are expecting to see early successional plant species thrive in the areas where management was completed.

NWTF Waterways for Wildlife Initiative Announces Inaugural Funding

EDGEFIELD, S.C.— The National Wild Turkey Federation launched its new Waterways for Wildlife Initiative by awarding 14 high-priority conservation projects with funds totaling $2,807,947 with partner match.

“We are extremely proud to begin delivering on-the-ground conservation within the first year of the Waterways for Wildlife Initiative,” said Jared McJunkin, NWTF director of conservation operations for the central region. “The fast-building momentum of this initiative is a result of our strong conservation partnerships and the all-encompassing work our Waterways for Wildlife seeks to accomplish. It was really easy to bring a diverse group of partners to the table for the common good.”

NWTF’s Waterways for Wildlife Initiative was announced just last year in November and requested proposals for conservation projects that will enhance wildlife habitat along rivers and streams, while improving the critical water resources these areas provide, primarily in NWTF’s Great Open Spaces Region in the Big Six of Wildlife Conservation.

With partners and NWTF staff ready to get to work and with funding secured, Waterways for Wildlife will begin work on the 14 shovel-ready projects in 2022, which will potentially enhance 7,677 acres of wildlife habitat and impact 77.9 stream miles.

“Waterways for Wildlife really showcases how our conservation work for wild turkeys has far-reaching benefits for many species and overall ecosystem health, including important water resources needed by people and wildlife” McJunkin said. “Never before have we captured stream miles as a conservation metric, and it’s exciting to see how the work we do improving wild turkey habitat also improves such an expanse of riparian habitat.”

A Vessel Safety Check Will Keep Your BoatUp-to-Date with New Boating Safety Equipment Regulations

A no cost, no penalty vessel safety check ensures you’re in compliance

How do you know your boat is ready for a safe summer boating season and complies with new U.S. Coast Guard regulations? A no cost, no penalty vessel safety check from the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and U.S. Power Squadrons can help, and to get one all you have to do is go to cgaux.org/vsc. Appointments can be made for a vessel examiner to come to your boat or you can learn where scheduled inspections are taking place around your town.

Upon successful completion, the vessel is awarded a U.S. Coast Guard / Auxiliary / U.S. Power Squadrons decal that informs law enforcement and safety agencies that your boat was in full compliance with all federal and state boating laws during a safety check for that year. The program is sponsored by the  BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water.

A vessel safety check can greatly increase safety aboard your boat. (credit U.S. Coast Guard)

“With the recent changes in regulations on engine cut-off switches as well as  changes to fire extinguishers and new 12- year expiration date, a free vessel safety check can help ensure your vessel is in compliance,” said BoatUS Foundation president Chris Edmonston. “It also gives you peace of mind that your boat meets federal safety standards and that in an emergency you will have the necessary equipment to save lives and summon help.”

Boat clubs, marinas, boat yards and municipalities with launch ramps are also encouraged to reach out to their local U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary or U.S. Power Squadrons to schedule a vessel safety check day at their property.

The U.S. Concealed Carry Association Responds to President Biden’s ATF Nomination and Ineffective Anti-Gun Agenda

The Administration Continues Down the Wrong Path Towards More Failed Gun Control Policies That do Little to Prevent Crime, Protect Families

West Bend, WI – The U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA), which is one of the fastest growing organizations in the country advocating for responsibly-armed Americans, released the following statement after President Biden unveiled a new regulation aimed at so-called “ghost guns” and nominated Steve Dettelbach as the next director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF):

“It is deeply troubling to see President Biden once again nominate someone with an anti-gun record to serve as the new ATF Director.  This, along with the Administration’s proposals with respect to so-called ‘ghost guns’ are just the latest evidence that the Biden Administration is more focused on restricting Americans’ God-given right to self-protection than targeting criminals and reducing violent crime.  Nothing that the President is proposing today will make Americans safer in the face of skyrocketing crime because criminals by definition do not abide by the law.  It’s disappointing that the President is doubling down on ineffective policies instead of supporting law-abiding Americans who simply want to protect themselves and their families,” stated Tim Schmidt, president and founder, the U.S. Concealed Carry Association.

President Biden’s previous choice for ATF Director, David Chipman, was withdrawn seven months ago after receiving major criticism from Senate Republicans and some moderate Democrats. The USCCA was  outspoken in their opposition, noting how Chipman’s leadership could lead to further restriction of Americans’ inalienable right to self-defense. As the last two years saw record numbers of first-time gun owners, it is more important than ever for leaders to stand up for the rights of law-abiding gun owners.

“We believe the President and Congress should turn their attention to the real threat facing our communities: the explosion of violent crime and increasingly emboldened criminals.  We challenge this Administration to start enforcing the laws we already have instead of creating new regulations that cripple law-abiding gun owners.  The USCCA will continue to stand with and advocate for policies that empower more responsibly-armed Americans to be their family’s first line of defense, such as national concealed carry reciprocity,” concluded Schmidt.

Viridian to Exhibit at Texas Police Chiefs Association Annual Conference

Viridian Weapon Technologies continues to educate and inform law enforcement on its FACT Duty Gun Camera, the only product designed to show what really happened in an officer involved shooting. This time Viridian will attend the Texas Police Chiefs Association (TCPA) 2022 Conference in Galveston Island, Texas April 11-14, 2022 and can be found in booth #210.

The TCP promotes and enhances the professional development of all executive and management personnel within duly constituted law enforcement agencies in the state of Texas. The conference will feature speakers to help keep attendees ahead of the trends with informative topics for both large and small agencies. The 2021 show saw a record number of vendors and this year promises to follow suit.

“We work with several agencies in Texas and have had our highest profile use-case to date for the FACT Duty in the state as well,” said Viridian President and CEO, Brian Hedeen. “The WMC is the only technology designed to capture an OIS from the unobstructed view of the gun, and footage from these WMCs continues to provide critical evidence in court.”

The Viridian WMC provided crucial evidence in an officer-involved shooting (OIS) trial in Vernon, Texas in 2020. The jury convicted the defendant of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a public official. The WMC provided the critical evidence in the case by showing the defendant pointing a sawed-off shotgun at Vernon Police Corporal T.J. Session during an exchange of gunfire in which both Corporal Session and the defendant were shot and wounded.

The highly advanced WMC employs a 1080p full-HD digital camera with a microphone and 500 lumen tactical light. Viridian’s proprietary INSTANT-ON® technology automatically activates the camera and microphone whenever the officer draws the firearm from its holster. Not only does this eliminate risk of failure to manually turn on the camera during a critical event, but it also keeps the officer from fumbling with cumbersome equipment.

RCBS®, the leading manufacturer of ammunition reloading equipment for rifles and pistols, congratulates long-range competitor Paul Phillips for winning the ELR Light Class during the recent Spearpoint ELR Match held in Barnard, Kansas. Phillips, who prepped for the match using an RCBS Rock Chucker®  Supreme Press and MatchMaster Powder Dispenser, led the field throughout the two-day match to secure his first win of the 2022 ELR season.

During this year’s competition, Phillips opted to compete in the Light Class, which requires shooters to use a rifle weighing under 26 pounds and chambered in .338 caliber or below. His personal rig for the match was chambered in 33XC and fired a 300 grain Berger bullet propelled by Vihtavouri Powder inside a Petersen cartridge using a Federal 215 M primer.

The Spearpoint ELR match featured many of the top long-distance shooters in the world, including the reigning King of 2 Mile team. After the match, it was noted that 76% of the shooters registered were in the Top 100 ranking in the world for King of 2 Miles.

EASTON CELEBRATES 100 YEARS OF AMERICAN-MADE GREATNESS

Easton, the longest standing archery company in the United States is proud to celebrate their 100th anniversary. Easton’s inception began with a family name, and today is still a family-owned company focused on its legacy and the future of archery.

Founded in 1922 by Doug Easton, who began crafting his own bows and making arrows out of cedar and pine. Soon, his craftsmanship was renowned, and his arrows were regarded as the finest in the country. In 1929, Doug moved to Los Angeles, opening Easton’s Archery Shop, where he would hit the sport full force with a host of wood-arrow innovations — the first screw-in point system that would become the world standard, then in 1949, with the production of the world’s first aluminum arrow, the 24SRT-X.

The small family shop moved and grew. Over time, Doug and team created the venerable XX75 and X7’s. Jim Easton came to work for his dad in 1960, and his engineering mind expanded the company to new altitudes with products such as ski poles, aluminum baseball bats, aluminum-carbon hockey sticks, road and mountain bike frames, and aluminum drumsticks use by top athlete and performers at the highest level.

Doug Easton’s legacy lives on with his son, Jim, and his grandson, Greg Easton, who would help pioneer virtually every major advancement in arrow technology to this day.  Under their leadership, the introduction and evolution of aluminum-carbon (AC) hybrids would be the next innovation to sweep the Olympic podiums. Today, the small-diameter carbon and FMJ revolution has redefined bowhunting success around the world.

The powerful draw of the sport, and the relentless push to innovate couldn’t make history without the millions who put their trust in Easton and share their singular aim of excellence. Of all the honors and achievements, the success of archers keeps Easton looking down-range since 1922 and to the century ahead. www.eastonarchery.com

Morton GO Review

The Morton GO is the environmental answer to buying cheap plastic bottles of anti-bacterial hand sanitizer over and over. Over the last several years, we have become inundated with hand sanitizer. We see these little bottles everywhere. I have seen them in parks, in parking lots and in the gutters on local streets. Morton has created the answer to throwaway bottles with a reusable bottle that allows you to create your own non-toxic disinfectant with water and table salt that is 99.9% effective at killing germs.

How does the Morton GO work?

The Morton GO uses the creation of HOCI disinfectant all in a simple, small spray bottle. It takes only a small packet of table salt and standard tap water.

What is HOCI?

HOCI is basically H for Hydrogen, O for Oxygen, and CI for Chlorine. Combined, HOCI is HypoChlorus acid. HypoChlorus acid is not the same as HCI Hydrochoric acid or muriatic acid. HOCI is naturally created by the white blood cells you have in your body, and these white blood cells create HOCI to fight infections. HOCI is used in many everyday products to kill germs and eliminate odors. I actually took the Morton GO on a recent fishing trip. I can attest it kept my hands from smelling fishy after use, and I knew my hands were cleaner before stepping into my truck.

HOCI is created between salt and water when an electrical charge is passed through the solution. It takes about 45 seconds. The good news is this entire thing is self-contained in a small travel sized spray bottle. It is slightly heavier than a cheap plastic bottle, but the worth is that you will know you are doing something to protect the environment. And in less time than you would think, this system pays for itself in keeping you healthy.

Conclusion

I have been using this unit since December. I took it to a trade show in January and used it all week. It is easy to spray, and it can be refilled anywhere you have a little table salt and water. This is a great gift for those that travel. These are worth a look: Mortongo.com, made from the team that creates Morton Salt which has been around for more than a century.
