U.S. LAWSHIELD® CHAMPIONS PERMITLESS CARRY IN OHIO

Legal Defense for Self Defense®

U.S. LawShield®, industry leader and America’s largest provider of Legal Defense for Self Defense®  coverage, addresses Ohio becoming the 23rd state to pass permitless carry, also known as constitutional carry, and encourages gun owners to educate themselves on what this means to them as residents of the state.

Under Senate Bill 215, which went into effect, Monday, June 13, 2022, gun owners 21 or older can carry a concealed handgun without a permit. This new law also means they can legally possess a handgun without a license, training, or a background check.

According to U.S. LawShield President, Kirk Evans, “Even with this new law passed in Ohio, restrictions on carrying guns in certain places like courthouses remain in place. Understanding the new law will be important for handgun owners who want to carry without a permit because gun laws are complex and could place you in a difficult position if you don’t follow them.”

Evans continued, “Education is the core of the U.S. LawShield mission, and we provide our members and other fellow gun owners with the in-depth information they need to legally arm themselves and to create safer communities. Permitless carry doesn’t mean that everyone can just carry because they want to. It’s important to know who can carry, where you can carry, etc. Without having your concealed carry license or CCW, you could be completely unaware that you’re committing a felony. Ignorance of the law isn’t an excuse.”

FPC Statement on Senate Gun Control Agreement

“Inalienable rights are not up for negotiation”

Firearms Policy Coalition issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Senate’s release of the “Bipartisan Safer Communities Act”:

In closed-door Senate gun control negotiations, and after-hours release of text, the United States Senate has failed the People yet again in both their cowardly process and on the merits of the measure, which seeks to abrogate the fundamental rights of the People. The two-party system has fallen miserably short of protecting the rights of the People since its inception and this tradition of treachery continues today.

The proposal seeks to chill the right to keep and bear arms by incentivizing local disarmament proceedings, of which many states currently employ secret ex-parte hearings, massive penalties and enhancements reminiscent of the mass incarceration of the so-called war on drugs, naked discrimination against young adults, and an aggressive assault on peacable conduct.

This proposal is an act of violence against the fundamental rights of the People. Should this package be adopted, it will result in the imprisonment, injury, and death of peaceable people. Those who vote in opposition to human liberty terrorize the People who must chose to be disarmed or take the risk of incarceration, locked in a cage and separated from their families, their career and their agency–for peaceably keeping and bearing arms–which is their inalienable right.

Barnett’s New Hyper XP 405

The Hyper XP 405 is built around the narrow diameter HyperFlite arrow. Barnett is the 1st crossbow company to improve the “ammo” in the crossbow category by advancing the technology of narrow diameter arrows into the crossbow platform. HyperFlite narrow diameter arrows provide numerous advantages. Deeper penetration, less wind drift, increased durability and engineered to deliver maximum kinetic energy.

The Hyper XP 405 features a narrow 10 in. axle to axle profile when cocked, making it super maneuverable in tight quarters. The short, custom composite laminated limbs provide plenty of power without added fore-end weight for a more stable shooting platform. The parallel limb configuration, combined with a track-mounted string dampener, significantly reduces recoil and noise during the shot while enhancing accuracy.

As its name implies, the Hyper XP 405 is built around Barnett’s HyperFlite narrow-diameter arrow technology. Pairing the Hyper XP 405 with 22-inch, .204-diameter HyperFlite arrows provides a deadly accurate combination of blistering speed, maximum kinetic energy, and deeper penetration. The increasing the arrow’s 21% FOC and 61% greater ballistic coefficient reduce wind drift and improve downrange accuracy.

As a result, the Hyper XP 405 sends the small-diameter HyperFlite™ arrows downrange with incredible speed – up to 405 ft. per second and delivers 138 ft. lbs. of kinetic energy! The Hyper nock increases string-to-nock engagement by 30 percent resulting in increased accuracy, reduced string wear, and no dry fires. The arrows boast a straightness tolerance of +/- .001 inches for supreme accuracy and consistency.

The Hyper XP 405 also features a metal-injected molded trigger and TriggerTech™ Frictionless Release Technology (a $200 value). This provides a reliable, crisp, 3-pound pull for consistent shots and improved accuracy. An Anti-Dry Fire (ADF) system and a nock sensor ensure the crossbow cannot fire unless the arrow is loaded correctly. Finger safety reminders above the generous pass-through foregrip keep fingers well out of the string path, and an adjustable buttstock allows for a perfect length-of-pull fit so the XP 405 can be fitted for youth, women and men.

Mule Deer Foundation Receives Funds to Hire Dakota Grasslands Habitat Partnership Coordinator

The Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) was awarded a $270,000 grant to hire a habitat partnership coordinator in the Dakota Grasslands region through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s (NFWF) Northern Great Plains program. The new full time staff position within MDF will work with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), North Dakota Game and Fish, South Dakota Game, Fish, & Parks, Montana Fish, Wildlife, & Parks, and Wyoming Game and Fish Department as well as industry and conservation partners. The partners will match the grant funding level through in-kind volunteer work, donated use of heavy equipment, and other existing habitat restoration funds. Led by the dedicated MDF staff coordinator, the partners will increase opportunities to implement conservation projects to restore habitat for mule deer, sage grouse, pronghorn, and other wildlife in the Dakota Grasslands project area of western North Dakota, eastern Montana, northwestern South Dakota, and northeastern Wyoming.

“In the past five years the Mule Deer Foundation in North Dakota has been initiating projects with private landowners and bringing in partners from industry and volunteer workforces. As a result, 25 miles of fence have been removed or modified to wildlife friendly designs, and in 2021 a project to reduce juniper encroachment affected over 1,500 acres of habitat,” said MDF Director of Conservation Steve Belinda. “The Dakota Grasslands habitat partnership coordinator will be our first conservation staff person with an emphasis on the eastern range of mule deer, which is dominated by private land with intermixed federal and state lands. We are excited about the potential with federal, state, and private landowners on cross-boundary projects that improve the critical mixed-grass ecosystems found in the project area.”

The Dakota Grasslands is a key focal area for NFWF’s Northern Great Plains program and consists of grasslands and sagebrush dominated habitats that are highly productive for pronghorn, mule deer, sage grouse, and numerous other grassland and sagebrush obligate species. State and federal agency partners have highlighted the need for cross-agency, partner coordination and planning for cumulative efforts to occur in the region. MDF’s Dakota Grasslands habitat partnership coordinator will provide critical new capacity to network across state, federal, tribal, and private lands to implement landscape-scale habitat conservation in the region. Priority projects will include grassland habitat restoration through conifer removal, cheatgrass control/eradication, rangeland fire restoration, grazing management, and fencing modifications. Riparian restoration activities will focus on restoring wet meadow or riparian areas through structureplacement (e.g., Zeedyk structures and beaver mimicry) and habitat improvements.

“Mule Deer Foundation chapters and partners have been active in the Dakotas for several years, organizing volunteer workdays to modify fencing to wildlife-friendly designs, remove invasive junipers, and restore riparian areas,” said Marshall Johnson, MDF’s director of field operations who also leads MDF’s efforts in the Dakotas. “Having an MDF habitat partnership coordinator in this region who can take the lead on developing and implementing these projects in coordination with our existing partners will significantly increase the amount of work we can get done together. This will benefit mule deer but also hundreds of other species that depend on our native grasslands.”

About MDF
The Mule Deer Foundation is the only conservation group in North America dedicated to restoring, improving and conserving mule deer and black-tailed deer and their habitat, with a focus on science and program efficiency. MDF is a strong voice for hunters in access, wildlife management and conservation policy issues. MDF acknowledges regulated hunting as a viable management component and is committed to recruitment and retention of men, women and youth into the shooting sports and conservation. CMP Announces New Wyoming State Directors for Youth Programs

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is happy to welcome two new State Directors for the state of Wyoming: brother and sister duo, Phillip and Linda Dobkins.

The CMP appoints State Directors to oversee marksmanship programs in each of the 50 states. The mission of the State Directors is to provide leadership, resource and program information, coordination, networking, motivation and publicity for junior shooting within their state.

Raised in Laramie, Wyoming, Phillip and Linda Dobkins have been active in marksmanship most of their lives through competition and coaching. The pair even started their own youth shooting sports program in nearby Cheyenne.

“The logical next step was to start hosting matches and helping other clubs grow,” Linda explained of their involvement in youth shooting sports. “We checked with the CMP and found that the State Director position was currently vacant for Wyoming, so we both applied.”

“Participation in junior smallbore/air rifle competitions have dropped recently, and that prompted me to contact the CMP about upcoming matches,” Phillip added. “Since I’m also head coach of my own program, I felt I could really help boost participation and match sponsorship by becoming State Director and providing leadership to other clubs in the state.”

Topwater Tactics that Tap into Striper’s DNA

By Todd Corayer

Striped bass, renowned for their opportunistic, often lazy feeding style yet beloved for their line-stripping runs when hooked, are a conundrum to many. Successful striper fishing requires all anglers to be prepared for both moods, armed with tools to force bass to attack – to call them on a real-world, DNA level. When tides, temperatures, winds, and even Nature herself are working against you, the Shimano CURRENT SNIPER Splash Walk is the one, special, exciting lure to beckon the biggest stripers.

At 3 3/8 ounces, it’s a 7 ¼” long cast spook reminiscent of classic search baits, combining high-tech design and old-school fishing sense. At rest, its rear section sits low with just its head peering over the surface. It’s an exhausted, wounded fish. At full throttle, it’s a drum roll of rattles and splashes working perfect patterns, rising, crashing, exploding, dominating the surface, zig-zagging in a frantic flight reaction. I think it makes stripers angry.

Combine a Shimano Teramar North East 7-foot, Medium Heavy power, Moderate Fast action rod with a Shimano Spheros SW reel spooled with 30-pound-test braid to work the CURRENT SNIPER Splash Walk properly. You’ll need some sensitivity to present it in tight locations, coupled with real backbone to hold fish tight. Tie 18 to 24 inches of 30-pound-test fluorocarbon leader directly to braid and the Splash Walk directly to your leader.

Splash Walks perform best when you understand how stripers hunt so take a few practice casts off the dock before you pick a spot. “Right, left. Right, left. Right, left. See? Just like that,” Captain Jack Sprengel of East Coast Charters taught me. It takes time to learn the method, to find that sweet rhythm but the best fishing often comes after listening to solid advice. “Right, left, right, left…” Proper cadence develops after a few casts. Keep your rod tip up, your reeling steady. Find your timing of rod up and down, right and left. Slowly, you will develop muscle memory, making the Splash Walk suddenly heel right, left, right, left. Water will splash as it hauls itself up and down, driven by your smooth power and control. It’s a deadly siren call and a lot of fun to retrieve.
