N8 Tactical Introduces G2 Series Backer and Upgrades for Popular EDC Holster Models

SPRINGFIELD, MO – N8 Tactical, an innovative holster company with a mission to provide quality products with superior comfort for all day, everyday carry, is excited to announce the next generation in EDC holster technology with the introduction of the new G2 Series Backer. This second-generation backer is now included across the most popular N8 Tactical IWB and OWB holster lines.

The new G2 Series Backer combines three layers—each with a specific function to ensure the kind of comfort and security serious EDC/CCW practitioners demand from their go-to holsters.

The first layer is a durable black leather ergonomically contoured for a no-pinch fit and maximum support for the handgun. The smooth surface facilitates an easy draw while protecting the firearm finish from marring or scratching.

Next is a middle layer, or core, made of moisture-proof neoprene. This layer serves two critical functions essential to all-day handgun carry. First, the moisture barrier prevents sweat and body oils from reaching the handgun metal and compromising the leather over time. Second, the inherent cushion effect of the neoprene layer works with the leather to prevent uncomfortable pressure points, such as when sitting or when buckled into a vehicle.

Finally, the G2 Series Backer features a new perforated suede material positioned next to the skin or clothing. This is an ultra-smooth layer that reduces chaffing and better slides along tucked shirts or undergarments to prevent uncomfortable bunching and pulling. Being a breathable suede, this layer also minimizes moisture build up by promoting airflow between the body and the holster.

2020 Progress on Cross-Country Great American Rail-Trail Includes $4 million in New Funding and 2,000 Miles Completed

Rails-to-Trails Conservancy points to enduring commitment and progress for the Great American as reinforcement of the health and economic value that trails deliver nationwide

Washington—As the 2020 trail construction season comes to a close in much of the country, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC), alongside Great American Rail-Trail partners on the 3,700-mile route, celebrate a year that saw significant new investments and miles completed for the nation’s first cross-country multiuse trail.

More than $4 million in public and private funds were secured in 2020 for projects along the route. In addition, more than 20 miles of trail along the Great American corridor were completed, bringing the total on-the-ground mileage of the developing trail system to over 2,000.

“This year has proven how vital projects like the Great American Rail-Trail are to the country. Millions of people have found their way outside on trails as a way to cope with the pandemic,” said Ryan Chao, president of RTC.

“As the Great American Rail-Trail connects more towns, cities, states and regions, this infrastructure serves as the backbone of resilient communities, while uniting us around a bold, ambitious and impactful vision. Looking ahead, we’ll be working hard alongside our partners to advance trail development; there are 80 miles of new trail in the pipeline now and hundreds of miles to build overall. Closing critical gaps in the trail has the potential to deliver significant economic value to the people and places along the route, which will be so important as we move beyond the pandemic,” said Chao.

Infrastructure bill funds priority conservation programs

Chesapeake Bay, Great Lakes among areas to receive vital funding

Today, Ducks Unlimited (DU) applauded important conservation funding included in the bipartisan infrastructure agreement, recently passed by the Senate.

The agreement includes funding for several critical conservation programs aimed at protecting and restoring waterfowl habitat in some of DU’s highest priority areas, including in the Great Lakes, the Chesapeake Bay, the Pacific Northwest and more.

“Bipartisan agreements often yield the most impactful results,” said DU CEO Adam Putnam. “That’s certainly the case in this instance, as programs in many of our highest priority habitat areas are set to receive funding, helping to strengthen fragile, yet important, ecosystems and make drought-stricken communities more resilient. DU supports this legislation and we appreciate the Senate’s attention to programs that support natural infrastructure and are incredibly valuable to both wildlife and people.”

A breakdown of funding for important conservation programs included in the bill is below:

The FN 509 is a capable and versatile handgun platform that delivers rapid, precision fire in any environment. Officers training on marksmanship, tactical maneuvers and precision target engagements now have a more accurate and reliable sidearm, proven by the LAPD to perform with a wide variety of duty-rated handgun optics and ammunition.

“The Los Angeles Police Department is one of the largest and most elite law enforcement agencies in the country, with roughly 10,000 uniformed officers, and we are proud that they have chosen the FN 509 MRD-LE as their next duty pistol,” said Mark Cherpes, President and CEO of FN America, LLC. “The FN 509 MRD-LE is the only choice for agencies seeking an extremely capable and versatile duty pistol platform with proven reliability, accuracy and optic interoperability. Serving the men and women of an outstanding law enforcement agency like the LAPD brings great pride to everyone at FN, we look forward to supporting their police force with a remarkable handgun platform their officers will rely on every day.”

During the LAPD handgun trials, FN competed against several contenders in a 20,000-round-count endurance qualification, which it surpassed with zero malfunctions. “Exceeding all of the requirements LAPD sought in their new duty pistol was a high-performance standard to meet,” said Chris Cole, Vice President, Sales and Marketing at FN America, LLC. “With over a million rounds fired in development, the FN 509’s reputation for durability is proven here again giving LAPD officers a superior handgun they can depend on in the most demanding policing environments.

Infrastructure Bill Includes Mule Deer Foundation Priorities for Forest Management and Wildlife Crossings

Salt Lake City, UT: The Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) thanked the U.S. Senate for today’s strong, bipartisan vote to pass an infrastructure bill that includes several key policy priorities to improve forest management and build highway wildlife crossings. Thanks to the efforts of Senators Joe Manchin, John Barrasso, and Steve Daines, the infrastructure bill includes more than $8 billion to improve forest resiliency through active forest management projects. In addition, a new program will provide $350 million to create wildlife crossings on highways to reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions and reconnect traditional migratory corridors for mule deer and other wildlife species.

“Our federal forests have deteriorated due to lack of active management projects and increasingly hot, dry weather patterns; too often the end results are the terrible fire seasons like we have been seeing for too many years,” commented MDF President/CEO Joel Pedersen. “The infrastructure package passed today will provide critical funding for forest restoration projects like the ones the Mule Deer Foundation leads to thin the overgrowth of trees and reduce the understory brush, both of which provide the fuels that can feed these devastating, stand-replacing fires. Not only is this good for forest health, but it also provides the necessary habitat structure that is so important for mule deer, black-tailed deer, and other wildlife species.”

Through agreements with the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service, MDF has been actively working in the West to improve forest and rangeland health through stewardship projects. These projects include timber thinning, removal of dead and dying trees, as well as mastication of understory brush. Replicating natural disturbances through active forest management reduces the threat of catastrophic fire and also provides many benefits to native wildlife species. Forest restoration projects help reset the ecological succession in an area, encouraging regrowth of the grasses and forbs that mule deer and many other wildlife species depend on, as well as regenerating aspen stands. The investment in forest resiliency projects through the new infrastructure bill will provide critical funding to address the thousands of acres of federal forestland most at risk for wildfire, improving the habitat and protecting the communities on the wildland/urban interface.

“The Mule Deer Foundation also appreciates the inclusion of funding for wildlife crossings that is included in the infrastructure package,” Pedersen continued. “Through the cooperative efforts on big game migration corridors, we have learned a tremendous amount about where deer are moving and we know that highways often add a significant barrier for their traditional migration pathways. Using this science, new highway overpasses and underpasses are being built where they are needed most and in some places we are seeing more than 90% reduction in wildlife-vehicle collisions. The federal investment in wildlife crossings will allow us to add these structures in even more critical corridors, helping our wildlife but also reducing the human costs associated with collisions.”

Since the signing of Department of the Interior Secretary’s Order 3362, MDF and many other partners have been engaged in research and habitat projects to improve big game migration corridors and seasonal ranges. One critical component of that has been reconnecting corridors that are blocked by highways. Projects like funnel fencing that guide wildlife to safe places for them to cross highways is proving extremely effective at reducing collisions. The investment in more wildlife over- and underpasses will allow these animals to move between their seasonal ranges without the risk of navigating busy roadways.

U.S. Senate Delivers Historic Commitments to Sportsmen and Women in Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill

Minutes ago, the U.S. Senate passed a strongly supported bipartisan bill known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to fund our nation’s surface and water infrastructure systems. This bill includes historic investments in natural infrastructure to enhance conservation and to increase hunting, fishing, trapping, and recreational shooting opportunities for America’s sportsmen and women.

Since infrastructure conversations in Congress began well over a year ago, the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) has been advocating for the inclusion of investments into conservation and sporting-access programs as part of any infrastructure bill. In May, CSF held a policy briefing for Members of Congress and their staff to hear directly from the sporting-conservation community about our priorities for future infrastructure packages. Following the briefing, CSF orchestrated a letter that was sent to leaders in both the House and Senate that outlined our community priorities, many of which are contained in this bill including:

Reauthorizing the Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund: This investment will ensure that more than $650 million annually ($743 million last year) is provided to state fish and wildlife agencies for local fish habitat conservation as well as boating and fishing access through excise taxes generated by anglers and boaters.Establishing an innovative grant program to reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions and to enhance habitat connectivity: This provision will authorize $350 million over 5 years to help reduce the estimated one to two million annual wildlife-vehicle collisions. In addition to increasing human safety on the road, this legislation will help restore habitat connectivity for the species most cherished by sportsmen and women.Authorizing efforts to restore aquatic organism habitat connectivity: This bill recognizes the importance of improving and restoring aquatic organism passage by modernizing culverts. As such, this bill authorizes $4 billion for a competitive grant program to replace, remove, and repair culverts to restore fish passage.Providing increased financial resources to restore our national forests: By including the Repairing Existing Public Land by Adding Necessary Trees (REPLANT) Act, this bill will help the U.S. Forest Service reduce their 1.3 million acres planting backlog by removing the antiquated cap on the Reforestation Trust Fund.Increasing access to federal lands: The Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act authorizes over $2.1 billion over 5 years to improve infrastructure that is owned and maintained by the National Park Service, Fish and Wildlife Service, Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and the Army Corps of Engineers.

“Our nation’s transportation and infrastructure systems are vital to the conservation of our nation’s fish and wildlife and access for sportsmen and women,” said CSF President and CEO Jeff Crane. “We applaud the Senate for recognizing and supporting our nation’s fish, wildlife, and sportsmen and women by including robust investments in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.”

Since 1989, the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) has maintained a singleness of purpose that has guided the organization to become the most respected and trusted sportsmen’s organization in the political arena. CSF’s mission is to work with Congress, governors, and state legislatures to protect and advance hunting, angling, recreational shooting and trapping. The unique and collective force of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus (CSC), the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus (GSC) and the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses (NASC), working closely with CSF, and with the support of major hunting, angling, recreational shooting and trapping organizations, serves as an unprecedented network of pro-sportsmen elected officials that advance the interests of America’s hunters and anglers.

Boone and Crockett Club Hosts 20th Anniversary Celebration of the American Wildlife Conservation Partners; Schoonen Elected as 2022 Chair

The Boone and Crockett Club hosted more than 50 of the nation’s top hunting conservation organizations that work together through the American Wildlife Conservation Partners (AWCP) as they celebrated two decades of collaboration on wildlife policy. The event at Club headquarters in Missoula, Montana, celebrated accomplishments since the first meeting convened in 2000, which the Club also hosted. The actual 20th anniversary celebration had to be postponed last year due to COVID travel restrictions.

The partner organizations have delivered recommendations to six incoming or returning Administrations and Congresses through the Wildlife for the 21st Century agendas that are the foundation for AWCP policy work. Each year, the coalition has submitted numerous letters to policy makers to outline positions on key issues—430 over the 20 years of work.

The celebration took place during the AWCP annual summer meeting where partners discussed current priorities such as conservation funding, migration corridors, climate and infrastructure policy, forest health, and much more. As the meeting concluded yesterday, Club chief executive officer Tony Schoonen was elected to chair the partners starting in January 2022.

“Since the Boone and Crockett Club first hosted these top hunting-conservation organizations two decades ago, the American Wildlife Conservation Partners has played a critical role on wildlife and land conservation efforts. We had two mottos at the first meeting: ‘We believe in magic,’ and ‘It is amazing what can be accomplished when there are no concerns about who gets the credit,’” commented James F. Arnold, president of the Boone and Crockett Club. “This belief has served as a foundation for AWCP and is critical to our success of working together to support conservation, hunting, trapping, and land stewardship. The Club considers this common cause among today’s leaders as important as any of the accomplishments in the last 130-plus years and we believe this partnership is essential to carry forward wildlife conservation policy.”

By 2000, the sporting conservation community recognized that America’s hunting traditions were being challenged and pulled in multiple directions by many forces. In spite of great successes in restoring wildlife—especially game species—over the past 100 years, the changing social landscape made clear the necessity of facilitating a new federation of hunter/conservationist organizations seeking a common national agenda for wildlife. This would require building unity among wildlife organizations and increasing their collective effectiveness. Club members saw that a conservation partners’ summit would advance these ends and extend the great conservation legacy begun by Theodore Roosevelt, Gifford Pinchot, and other visionary conservationists in 1887. That summit 20 years ago led to the founding of AWCP.

Shoot Like A Girl® Releases Second Quarter Report for 2021

Shoot Like A Girl has released its second quarter report for 2021, citing impressive numbers, growth and insights that will help drive the remainder of the calendar year. Hundreds of women participated in the Shoot Like A Girl mobile range experience in five locations across the Midwest. The trailer covered traveled 3,498 miles to introduce these women and their families to shooting sports, allowing the Shoot Like A Girl team to empower more guests in more cities. The full report is available online.

“The second quarter of 2021 came and went so very fast; especially compared to the same quarter in 2020, when time came to a standstill,” said Karen Butler, Founder and President of Shoot Like A Girl. “I look back now and am proud that Shoot Like A Girl was able to be on the front lines of grass roots initiatives; safely travelling to deliver the message of safety and share the confidence that comes with the shooting sports. We completed five more shows in second quarter.”

Reaching More Women in 2021

In the second quarter, 516 women participated in Shoot Like a Girls’ experience to shoot a pistol, rifle and bow during the Home of the Brave Tour. With stops at Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s stores in Waco, TX; Wichita, KS; Council Bluffs, IA; Hammond, IN; and Lawrenceville, GA, the Shoot Like A Girl trailer covered a lot of ground in just a few months.

In addition to normal operations, Hunt Like a Girl was created to break down barriers so that women who wish to hunt, but don’t, find a way to feel encouraged and empowered to go afield. During three hosted hunts, women gained experience and confidence on their hunting adventures.
