Back by popular demand: Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kentuckiana Raffling a Rare Flight of 5 Pappy Van Winkle Bourbons

The organization’s previous Pappy raffle sold-out in an outstanding 3 days.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kentuckiana (RMHCK), which is raffling five Pappy bottles packaged as a flight, is expecting the 1,750 tickets to fly off the shelves during its upcoming bourbon raffle. The raffle kicks-off Aug. 16 and will be held in partnership with bourbon expert Fred Minnick.

Each ticket will be sold for $100 each and 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit families who stay at the House when they travel to Louisville for medical care for their children.

“You can nab five coveted bottles offered as a group and support sick children and their families,” said Minnick, who serves as the organization’s exclusive partner for this charitable endeavor. Minnick personally authenticated each bottle and recently appraised this raffle at $22,000. He also has confirmed all five bourbons’ origins.

“Pappy Van Winkle’s value has skyrocketed,” said Minnick. “These prestigious bottles will only continue to increase in value — it’s a beautiful tribute to Pappy’s legacy that they can raise so much money for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kentuckiana. And, whomever wins these bottles will instantly have one of the best collections in their respective area,” he added.

Florida gun company says they won’t comply with ATF cease-and-desist order

ORLANDO, Fla. – The president of a Florida-based gun company released a recorded statement Friday saying his company will not be complying with a cease-and-desist order issued by the ATF in late July.

According to the cease-and-desist letter issued on July 26, the ATF alleged that Rare Breed Triggers’s FRT-15 trigger was actually a machine gun, and the agency ordered Rare Breed Triggers to halt production and sales, and create a plan to address the triggers that had already been sold and distributed.

In the video, Lawrence DeMonico, president of Rare Breed Triggers, says his company will not be complying with the order by the federal agency and lays out his case for why they are choosing to civilly disobey the order.

According to DeMonico, contrary to the ATF’s allegations, DeMonico says the fact of the matter is that the FRT-15 cannot fire more than one round by a single function of the trigger. That’s important to note, because that is probably the most pertinent portion of the definition of a machine gun as defined by the Gun Control Act and National Firearms Act, DeMonico says.

Beyond making the case for why they would not be complying, DeMonico says the company immediately responded to the ATF’s cease-and-desist order to inform them that they did not agree with the ATF’s claim. Additionally, DeMonico says they have also followed up by filing a lawsuit in the United States Federal Court for the Middle District of Florida.

Brotherhood Outdoors Takes Maryland Glazier to Texas to Hunt Wild Aoudad Sheep

Spring Hill, Tenn.—Union glazier Zach Galis of Derwood, Maryland, swaps his well-used scattergun for a long-range rifle in his quest for free range aoudad in the desert mountains of west Texas on an episode of Brotherhood Outdoors airing this week on Sportsman Channel.

A member of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) Local 963, Galis is an avid waterfowler and occasional whitetail hunter in his home state. He first learned of the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance (USA) as a teenager when he attended the USA’s Capital Area Sporting Clays Shoot with his dad in 2009.

While more accustomed to a shotgun, Galis gets comfortable with a long-range rifle before burning ATV fuel and boot leather with USA’s Forrest Parker and guide Tucker Lehr in his quest for desert sheep in the remote Texas highlands. When they spot a mature ram, the trio must climb to 4,000 feet to get into position for a shot.

“Never in my life did I dream that I’d be here,” said Galis. “Thank you USA, Brotherhood Outdoors, and my union for giving me this opportunity. It was the hunt of a lifetime—without a doubt.”

Catch every minute of Galis’ exciting hunt for Texas aoudad when Brotherhood Outdoors airs on the Sportsman Channel Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 4 p.m. Eastern with re-airings on Friday at 11:30 a.m., Saturday at 1:30 a.m. and Sunday, Aug. 29 at 11 a.m.

All Guard’s Freeman Wins Overall at 2021 Camp Perry President’s Rifle Match

CAMP PERRY, Ohio – Maj. Samuel Freeman, 37, of the National Guard All Guard Rifle team, was the overall competitor of the 2021 President’s Rifle Match – firing a score of 396-19X. The match was part of the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) National Rifle Matches at Camp Perry and has been a prestigious part of the annual event for over 40 years.

“It felt wonderful,” Freeman said of his return to the National Matches after missing last year’s cancelled event.

Freeman is a long-time competitor of the National Matches, making his debut in 1997 as a junior and even taking the Small Arms Firing School in 1995 at 11 years old.

Freeman had reached as high as fourth place overall in the event before claiming the win this year.

“This is what I did as a kid,” he said. “I didn’t play a lot of baseball or play football – this was my sport, service rifle shooting. So, this (the National Matches) was the big culminating event.”

Freeman has fired in the President’s Rifle Match several times throughout his career, reaching as high as fourth in the esteemed 20-person shootoff held at the conclusion of the match. At this year’s event, he felt confident in his zeroes but was still concerned with the wind blowing 10 miles-per-hour directly into his face on the 200 yard line during the standing portion. The wind improved during the rapid fire stage at the 300, which caused Freeman to underestimate the conditions at the slow-fire 600-yard phase and led to a break into the 9-ring.

A Coon Hunt to Remember

Anyone can get in over their head, regardless of how good or experienced of a hunter you are. I have heard so many raccoon hunting stories. Some good, some bad and some that are just unbelievable to the point that you don’t even want to listen. But I didn’t hear the one I’m fixin’ to tell you. I witnessed it firsthand.

For a little background, Ole’ Dan, the dog we were hunting with was about nine or 10-years-old. When he was young, he won the high point Blue Tick Male category at the National Winter Classic out of 885 total dogs two years in a row. This was such a solid dog that, when he opened his mouth, you knew that there was a ringtail bandit fixin’ to run up a tree.

The grandfather of my 18-year-old son’s girlfriend at the time was talking to him at one of their family gatherings and telling Lane (my son) of his coon hunting days and that he had not been coon hunting in like 50 years. Of course, with the manners that I have bestowed upon him, Lane extends the invite to the woods sometime. Well, the grandfather said he had 1,500 acres of timber, and that the coons were eating all his deer corn and wanted them thinned out. So, they arranged a time and we met the next week to take him on a ring tail hunt to show him how good ole’ Dan was. Keep in mind that when you are talking to folks who know dogs and have been in the coon hunting woods, they are always reluctant when you tell them that you have a good coon hound.

After all the formalities of meeting and discussing the lay of the land, we cut ole’ Dan loose. He went only about 50 yards and struck, which means that he opened his mouth with a very loud tone to say, “Hey, I’ll have him treed in a minute or two.” Within about five minutes Dan is looking up with a long locating bark and then several short choppy barks to say, “Hey, where y’all at? I’m down here with the meat on the outside.”

After we drove over to the sight, we were only about 100 yards from ole’ Dan, but it was 100 yards up an extremely steep hill. When we arrive at the tree, Lane is there waiting on us and has the coon found and was excited as a 10-year-old. The coon was at least 35 pounds. I told him that when he takes the final shot, to make sure he had a good one and to shoot it dead. We didn’t want ole’ Dan to get hurt or have to fight the coon. So, I hold the light on the coon and Lane raises his .22 caliber rifle. Being the crack shot that he is, Lane pulls the trigger it appears that the coon is fixin’ to fall out dead.

Fishing kayak vs Boat Kayak

In recent times, more people are opting for a fishing kayak to a fishing boat, and this is no coincidence. Kayaks can have many advantages over boats, like more exclusivity, less weight, more economical, and a healthy recreational habit. This is not to say fishing boats do not still have their advantages, so what is the better option between a fishing and boat kayak?

Fishing Kayaks

Fishing kayaks are mainly categorized as sit-on-top kayaks and sit-in kayaks. Some of the main benefits of kayak fishing include the fact that it helps with fitness and workouts, it is relatively cheaper to buy and maintain, its parts and supplies do not cost as much as a boat, plus it is very quiet and offers more relaxation. Some benefits of fishing kayaks are

More Economical and better value for money

Boats are not only more expensive, but they also consume more fuel, are expensive to maintain, and also the filing and registration process can be quite expensive too. You can hardly maintain a boat under a budget, as most of the parts can run into hundreds of dollars, apart from fuel and maintenance costs. As a result, boats are a very large investment, with some costing as much as $10,000.

Kayaks, on the other hand, are much simpler to maintain and require minimal supervision. You can check out https://www.meltontackle.com/kayaks/fishing-kayaks for fishing kayak options at affordable prices, along with supplies, buying guides, and much-needed information on how to maintain your fishing kayak.

Good for staying fit and working out

Kayaks are very good for relaxing and enjoying a quiet fishing experience. They are not as difficult to steer as boats, and this allows them to be easily navigable across many water bodies.

The Harvester 300, like its name describes, is a purpose-built suppressor designed with the hunter in mind. It is rated up to .300 WIN, but will accommodate all of the most commonly used hunting calibers between .223 REM and .300 WIN. It’s 17-4 heat-treated, stainless baffles and aluminum tubing make it lightweight, yet strong enough for all hunting needs.

For hunters looking for a heavy-duty use suppressor, the Omega 300 and Omega 36M are slightly heavier than the Harvester, but do offer more versatility. Both the Omega 300 and Omega 36M are world-class suppressors commonly used for both recreational and tactical shooting. The Omega 36M is the most adaptable suppressor currently available, allowing for short and long lengths and accommodating calibers ranging from .22 Hornet up to .338 LM.

“Come by booth 289 and see us!  We look forward to discussing the benefits of hunting suppressed with you,” said hunting enthusiast and SilencerCo Marketing Manager, Brooklee Grant.
