Gamakatsu® Tool Line Adds Micro Split Ring Plier and Folding Braid Scissors

Make the most of your time on the water by using tools that work. The new Micro Split Ring Plier and Folding Braid Scissors with Split Ring Opener excel at opening split rings and cutting braided line. Gamakatsu engineers designed these tools for comfort, durability and ease of use. Both tools include a lanyard hole for adding a safety cord, keeping them close at hand and preventing loss.

The Micro Split Ring Plier inherits the essential qualities from the Gamakatsu family of pliers. The 5-inch long pliers, made from stainless steel, will not rust even in harsh saltwater environments, providing a lifetime of service. A premium non-slip grip works when wet, giving anglers a secure hold for fine operations like manipulating split rings, and it works equally well in large or small hands. A spring in the handle holds the pliers open during use, and a corresponding lock keeps them closed for storage. Its precision-ground micro-tip grips and opens super small split rings, and it is just as effective on large ones, too. A built-in braided line cutter cleanly shears tough fishing line. The Micro Split Ring Pliers stainless body etched with the Gamakatsu name contrast magnificently with its rich blue handles.

The Folding Braid Scissors with Split Ring Openeris a compact multi-function fishing scissor with similar construction elements as other Gamakatsu fishing tools. Its sharp stainless-steel blades will provide years of hard use snipping mono and cutting braided fishing line. The scissor’s tips feature a handy split ring opener. The blades fold safely into the tool’s blue handles for safe storage. When open, the 4-inch scissors proudly display the Gamakatsu name. A quality tool at a value-price.

The Sound of Stealth

Enthralling underwater footage gives voice to Z-Man’s® ChatterBait® StealthBlade

Remember your high school geometry class? Turns out, all that gibberish about vertices and isosceles triangles actually carries weight in the real world . . . the fishing world.

Lucky for all you slackers out there, professional angler Brett Hite was one of the few who paid attention in math class.

“Geometry, man. The right dialed in blade shapes, bends and angles are the biggest reasons your personal best bass probably ate a ChatterBait JackHammer,” exclaims Hite, Bass Pro Tour angler and a talented lure designer. “Building a ChatterBait that hums; that thumps and performs with the first half-turn of the reel handle is all about calculated geometry. It’s about oscillation and water displacement and achieving precise angles between line, blade and jighead.

“But the same math doesn’t apply in every fishing situation or body of water,” Hite continues. “Sometimes, a different vibration and pitch, a subtler flash, or a tighter action and smaller footprint can produce twice as many bites. Given a need for an even more refined bladed jig, we ultimately developed JackHammer 2.0, a.k.a. the StealthBlade.”

Cold Steel Introduces Recon Scout in 3V Combat Knife

Irving, TX – Cold Steel, manufacturer and innovator of purpose-built knives and blade tools for everyday carry, tactical, and hunting applications, has developed a new combat knife based on the company’s popular Trail Master® Bowie. Called the Recon Scout in 3V, this new platform delivers the broad-range function expected in a reliable, do-it-all fixed-blade but in a more compact size than traditional Bowies.

The Recon Scout in 3V is built around a modified Bowie blade profile. The 5/16th-inch blade has a broad yet subtle clip point with a 3.5-inch false edge, making it exceptionally strong and resistant to bending and breaking. The 7.5-inch overall blade length means the Recon Scout in 3V is comfortably manageable on the hip while delivering long reach for cutting and slashing.

Other features of this blade profile include a slightly curved edge and a modest belly. The gradual curve makes the Recon Scout in 3V suitable for draw cuts and chopping strokes. For more precise work, the belly curve presents optimal control for such tasks as skinning or field dressing.

Another advantage is the Recon Scout’s 3V steel blade material. Known for its incredible toughness, edge retention, and corrosion resistance, the 3V steel blade makes it ideally suited for hard use in combat applications or any field work.

The Recon Scout in 3V offers a robust, ergonomic handle made of textured Kray-Ex to ensure a solid grip when hands are wet or slippery. The polished light gold colored quillon and lanyard bolsters provide elegant, functional accents to the black grip and satin blade finish.

Huk’s Gunwale Collection Provides Big Performance At A Reasonable Price

Ardent anglers don’t think a little rain should get in the way of a day on the water—even if it’s blowing sideways. So the new Gunwale collection from Huk offers easily packable rain gear that keeps the elements at bay without a steep price tag.

Huk’s Gunwale Rainwear collection provides serious performance in the nastiest of conditions. At the heart of each garment is a hardcore, 10k wind and waterproof fabric, so it stands up to the worst of Mother Nature’s wrath but is porous enough to allow interior moisture to escape to the outside of the material. The exterior of the fabric features a durable, water-resistant finish that stands up to driving rain. Like all of Huk’s premium rainwear, the Gunwale collection features fully taped seams to remain wind- and waterproof. An internal liner wicks moisture towards the membrane and away from the body. Combined, all of these layers stop water dead in its tracks.

Each garment in the Gunwale line is constructed with top-of-the-line features to keep anglers dry and fishing longer. The adjustable hood offers excellent visibility but manages to keep rain and spray out of faces during the roughest rides. When the activity peaks, the integrated pit zips help ditch excess heat and keep sweat to a minimum. An elastic waist, waterproof leg zipper and zippered fly give the pants easy on and off accessibility. Storm flaps provide added protection for zippers to help keep gear dry. Best of all, each piece packs into its own pocket for easy storage, ensuring they don’t take up too much space on board.

Anglers trust Huk’s rainwear to keep the elements at bay so they can concentrate on what’s important–fishing. The Gunwale collection offers big performance in an easily stowed package, all at a friendly price.

Houston Safari Club Foundation Continues Partnership With “This Is Africa” Television Show

Houston Safari Club Foundation (HSCF)  a worldwide leader in hunting, conservation and education, is pleased to announce its continued partnership with the “This is Africa” television show

The dynamic brother and sister team of Andrew and Michelle Buchanan share a lifetime of experience in African hunting. Together with their award-winning production team, they tell the stories of conservation, community development, hunting and fishing across the Dark Continent. Michelle grew up on in a farming area, the only daughter of a prominent Zimbabwean Tobacco Farmer and Professional Hunter with her three brothers. Hunting was a part of life from a very young age, and it was during these trips to all parts of wild Zimbabwe that the spirit of adventure and the passion for the outdoors was engraved in her. Andrews vast amount of knowledge about wildlife and habitats, as well as his deep understanding of the local people and their cultures, has seen him across the vast majority of Africa. “This is Africa” airs on the Pursuit Channel.

Michelle Buchanan states, “Andy and I are very excited to be partnering with Houston Safari Club Foundation. We believe in supporting only the best hunting, conservation & education organizations and we feel exactly this way about the Houston Safari Club Foundation. We look forward to representing them and thank -you for your continued support.”

About This Is Africa
“This is Africa” is different. Michelle, Andy and their award-winning postproduction team will treat viewers to a new and refreshing concept whereby these young and energetic hosts leave behind the old formulaic, one-dimensional hunting show and introduce the next generation natural history series that knocks down the third wall without deflecting from the hunt. The tunnel vision of yesteryear’s shows will be replaced by knowledge of local people, cultures and animals (big and small). Poaching, antipoaching, community development and how these are directly affected by and affiliated with hunting will be an intricate part of this show. In a world filled with misinformation we will portray the unbiased truth about conservation through hunting. Delta Waterfowl Innovates Cutting-edge Duck Production Conditions Map

BISMARCK, NORTH DAKOTA — A new habitat modelling technique will allow The Duck Hunters Organization to produce maps of breeding waterfowl habitat conditions like never before. As first published in Delta’s “Fall Flight Forecast” media release earlier this month, The Duck Hunters Organization believes the innovative strategy marks a vast improvement in accuracy and precision over conditions maps of its kind.

“We’ve produced conditions maps in the past, but nothing ever on this level,” said Mike Buxton, Delta’s waterfowl programs manager and engineer of the new mapping technique. “Most duck production conditions maps are pretty rudimentary — they chart out these large ‘blobs’ of general areas based on direct observations and sometimes even educated guesses. It simply isn’t feasible to have enough staff spread across the entire breeding range to accurately gauge conditions firsthand throughout the year.”

Buxton’s mapping technique, on the other hand, relies on a series of complex computer models. While he won’t reveal all of his tricks — the innovative software strategy required considerable effort and a number of map iterations to perfect — precipitation as well as groundwater estimates are central to his computer modelling.

“Precipitation has been a large driver of wetland conditions maps, but it doesn’t tell the whole story unless you consider what’s already out there on the landscape,” Buxton said. “For instance, a few inches of rain in May could make things look pretty good on paper, when in reality if you entered the month dry, a lot of wetlands could still be empty. We believe this aspect of our improved mapping strategy alone will offer hunters a pretty darn accurate assessment of conditions for breeding ducks.”

Buxton’s conditions maps will be published in all five issues of Delta Waterfowl magazine — an exclusive benefit of membership in The Duck Hunters Organization — and monthly on Delta’s social media and at deltawaterfowl.org.

RAISING THE BAR WITH NEW EASTON 4MM FMJ ARROWS

Salt Lake City, Utah – Easton introduces a new addition to the FMJ flagship line—the 4MM FMJ. The 2021 4MM Full Metal Jacket has been updated with a new spine configuration, an all-new 8-32 point half-out system, and redesigned graphics

Full Metal Jacket arrows are the archery industry’s flagship hunting arrow because they offer the highest level of penetration and accuracy. Dual material carbon/aluminum construction guarantees precision and adds the critical punch of more kinetic energy. FMJ arrows pull more potential energy from the bow and increase penetration by focusing their mass into a smaller diameter and reduced surface area. This results in less friction during flight for higher speed and more kinetic energy downrange. The ultra-micro diameter also penetrates with less friction within the target for more pass-through impacts to take down game quickly and hasten recovery. The slick aluminum surface further reduces friction for even more penetration, and it offers noticeably easier extraction when pulling shafts from practice targets.

FMJ 4MM comes pre-installed with 4MM nocks and includes Easton’s new aluminum point half-out. The half-out optimizes front-of-center for easier broadhead tuning and more durability and is compatible with standard thread 8-32 broadheads and field points. Available in the most popular hunting spine sizes: 250, 300, 340, and 400.  Offered in both standard and Match Grade models.

North America’s Greatest Tournaments Unite To Launch The Sport Fishing Championship International Offshore Series In 2022

Points-based tournament series will crown one grand champion of offshore fishing

Momentum SE and officials from premier fishing tournaments across North America united on Monday to announce the formation of the Sport Fishing Championship (SFC), an eleven-event competition series that will award one grand champion in the sport of offshore fishing. The announcement was made at the 68th Annual San Juan International Billfish Tournament, which will serve as one of the tournaments on the competition circuit in 2022.

For the first time, the Sport Fishing Championship will connect independent, established fishing tournaments, creating a strategic alignment, and ultimately establishing a top titleholder. The series represents one collective vision from each of the partnering tournaments that together boast more than 400 years of fishing tournament history.

The SFC will award four winners based on results from the eleven-tournament regular season, which features three “championship fish” competitions and a points-based billfish championship. Teams earn points based on their placement in each qualifying tournament, plus are awarded additional points for every qualified catch throughout the season.

Monarch Habitat Takes Off In Wisconsin

Unprecedented Funding And Attention Adds To Gains On The Ground

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin monarchs looking for milkweed to lay their eggs on will now find hundreds of thousands of more acres of habitat in Wisconsin thanks to voluntary efforts by organizations and individuals statewide, including representatives from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

The Wisconsin Monarch Collaborative formed in 2018 to voluntarily plant milkweed and wildflowers on a massive scale. The collaborative’s efforts are essential to help reverse an 80% decline over the last 20 years in the Eastern population of monarchs that breed and migrate through Wisconsin and 15 other states.

Participants in the Wisconsin Monarch Collaborative include DNR representatives and other state and federal agencies, utilities, transportation groups, agriculture groups, university researchers, conservation groups and nature centers.

“Wisconsin Monarch Collaborative partners have made a solid initial down payment on our statewide goal,” said Brenna Jones, DNR Conservation Biologist and Wisconsin Monarch Collaborative Coordinator.

DRD TACTICAL ANNOUNCES NEW PRODUCTS

Lyons Falls, NY: DRD Tactical, innovators of quick take down rifles, has announced that they’ve added a few new products to their growing brand: the Traditional Ambidextrous Safety Selector, Tactical Ambidextrous Safety Selector, and the ARES.

The DRD Ambidextrous Safety Selectors are visual improvements over the standard. They offer improvements such as ambidextrous manipulation and are AR-15 and AR-10 compatible. The Safety Selectors come in two styles: Traditional, which offers one short and one long lever, while the Tactical has ribbed anti-slip levers. Additionally, the positive lock dovetail design ensures the product won’t loosen once installed. A pin-punch is also included for disassembly purposes.

The DRD Tactical ARES is an Adaptive Retention System for rifles. This locking retention system is simple to operate and ensures rifles stay secure while offering an ergonomic, easy release. With the ARES, you can reduce fatigue and strain with the spread of the rifle’s weight across armor carriers or tactical vests and dramatically reduce undesirable movement allowed by slings. The product installs easily on any MOLLE system carrier and is compatible with AR rifle platforms and a wide variety of firearms with QD sling attachment points. Additionally, an integrated adapter can be purchased separately and is an upgrade to the end plate.

“We’re excited to be able to offer accessories which allow our customers to customize and optimize their firearms. We offer a premium brand and now we’re also able to offer the premium furniture and accessories to match,” said CEO Larry Williams. Williams continued, “It’s rewarding to be able to dive headfirst into projects like this which allow us to leverage our capabilities while enhancing the experience for our customers.”

DroneSeed Acquires Largest Private Forestry Seed Supplier in the Western U.S.

Driven by Increasing Demand for Reforestation in the Face of Wildfires & Climate Change, Acquisition of Silvaseed Co. Positions DroneSeed as Vertically-Integrated Leader in Reforestation

(Seattle, Wash.) DroneSeed announced today it has acquired Silvaseed Company, a 130 year-old titan in the forestry seed collection and seedling supply business. The move expands DroneSeed’s reforestation services beyond aerial drone-based seeding to span seed collection, seedling cultivation in nurseries, and on-the-ground tree planting services. The acquisition comes at a critical time in the forestry industry, with skyrocketing demand for reforestation and many tree nurseries facing significant seed and seedling shortages.

“With the compounding crises of climate change, wildfires and forest loss, accelerating the pace and scale of reforestation is essential,” said Grant Canary, CEO of DroneSeed. “By creating the industry’s first vertically-integrated reforestation company, we now offer a ‘one-stop-shop’ of reforestation services for landowners and foresters: starting from seed supply, to aerial enhanced seeding, to seedling cultivation, to traditional replanting, and more. We’re thrilled to build on Silvaseed’s track record and are doubling capacity at Silvaseed to meet intensifying demand.”

Tackling the national shortage of tree seed & seedlings is critical to mitigate the exponentially increasing loss of forests due to wildfire and climate change. Forests are naturally regenerating fewer acres as fires impact larger areas, burn hotter, and natural “seed banks” in the soil and treetops get torched. There aren’t enough seeds or nursery capacity to regrow the trees being lost each year — the existing reforestation supply-chain evolved to boost regeneration in a minor percentage of fires, and now climate change fueled wildfire has increased demand many times over and supply of seed and seedlings hasn’t increased.  DroneSeed is eager to begin addressing this by building upon Silvaseed’s robust infrastructure and utilizing its aerial tech.

Z-Man Baits Dominate Pro Kayak Derby

Jody Queen wins Hobie Bass Open Series on the Susquehanna River

It’s undeniably big water, but Pennsylvania’s Susquehanna River might also be the coolest place on earth to stalk smallmouth bass via kayak. During and after the recent Hobie Bass Open Series (BOS) tournament—July 31 to August 1— a majority of the 139 kayak-fishing competitors came away in agreement: This is one special place for smalljaws.

Less certain, however, were the competitive paddlers’ notions on where to begin searching for said bronze bass. “The Susquehanna is an awesome fishery, but on a river that’s up to a mile wide, it can be hard to know where to cast first,” noted eventual tourney winner, Jody Queen. “You’ve got dozens of islands out there, and each one features entire networks of little critter hideouts created by boulders, grassbeds and fallen timber. Throw in all the countless subtle current seams and pushes, which create conveyor belts of bass food, and things can get interesting.”

Further confounding the fish-pattern process were decisions regarding which baits to bring and which ones to leave in the truck—a key strategic maneuver given limited kayak storage space. For Z-Man pros Queen, Drew Gregory and Ryan Lambert, however, the choice distilled down to a handful of tournament tested gear: Gimme a couple Z-Man blades and few bags of ElaZtech® softbaits, and I’m good.

Queen’s day-one smallmouths ate a finesse-rigged Bang StickZ.

Queen, who’s hails from West Virginia but calls the Susquehanna his home river away from home, wielded his usual one-two punch of tournament-winning baits—a ChatterBait JackHammer and a shaky head-rigged Bang StickZ. “Spent a lot of time on day-one probing laydowns around islands. I pitched the shaky head near high-percentage woodcover spots,” explained Queen, who won the same Susquehanna BOS event in 2020. “The Bang StickZ required me to slow down and fish with finesse. It produced some good bites that first day. But I was constantly noticing bass blowing up on baitfish, which presented the perfect opportunity to get aggressive with the ChatterBait.”

The Key Advantages of EOTECH’s Holographic Weapon Sights

EOTECH’s Holographic Weapon Sights (HWS®) are among the most elite optics in the world. Selected by USSOCOM and battle tested, EOTECH’s combination of technology and rugged build quality offer proven advantages to all who use them.

The most significant advantage the HWS offers is extremely fast target acquisition. It allows for maximum situational awareness by providing a unique rectangular heads-up display that supports target engagement with both eyes open that maximizes the user’s peripheral vision and situational awareness. Its unlimited eye relief allows the user to position the sight anywhere on the firearm and allows for off-axis usage where proper cheek weld or sight alignment isn’t possible.

The HWS offers other significant advantages over typical red dot sights. Because it is powered by a laser diode instead of an LED, the HWS offers the smallest aiming point in the industry. This, combined with the large outer ring, often known as the “donut of death”, provides unparalleled speed in engaging targets, while offering unmatched accuracy for a 1X optic. This advantage is compounded when the reticle is viewed under magnification. The aiming dot does not magnify in size like it does on LED-driven red dots. The user maintains the small 1MOA dot but now with a target that is magnified 3-5 times in size. This allows for more precise shots downrange.

Additionally, the holographic reticle is perceived by the shooter to be projected at the target, allowing focus on both the target and the reticle, whereas a red dot forces the user to shift focus back-and-forth from near to far – reticle to target. Holography also allows EOTECH to develop all types of reticle options including multi-dot ballistic solutions, stadia and ranging reticles, and solutions specific to unique platforms like less lethal or grenade launchers.

HWS models feature more brightness settings than most red dots to better adapt to all lighting situations and some models offer brightness levels compatible with night vision. All units are powered by commonly found AA or CR123 batteries and include a battery check indicator and a user-controlled auto-shutdown of four or eight hours to ensure power won’t be wasted.

Trapping Policy Organizations Formalize Partnership with CSF

The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF), the most respected and trusted sportsmen’s organization in the political arena, and the two foremost trapping and trapping policy organizations in the United States — The Fur Takers of America (FTA) and the National Trappers Association (NTA) — announced a formal partnership through a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during both organizations’ annual conventions this summer. This agreement will strengthen the relationship among CSF, FTA, and NTA, enhancing the ability of each organization to influence trapping policy across the United States.

CSF, FTA, and NTA individually possess resources designed to advance conservation and policy goals that benefit trappers. Establishing a recognized partnership between all three organizations at both the state and national level will allow each organization to leverage the others’ abilities to further promote trapping as a science-based resource management practice and protect our trapping heritage for future generations. CSF, FTA, and NTA recognize their mutual support for each other’s mission, ensuring that all organizations continue to operate on behalf of the nation’s trappers, both in the field and in the halls of government.

Through the partnership, FTA and NTA members will work closely with CSF’s policy staff to identify and track legislation that affects trapping, including issues revolving around methods of take and access. These conservation and policy experts will leverage the resources of each organization to better serve trappers and wildlife management, highlighting their role in efforts to reduce human-predator conflict and ensure heathy populations of furbearers and other wildlife using proven science-based management practices.

CSF is committed to working alongside the FTA and NTA staff and their respective members to champion policies that promote conservation, habitat restoration, and access through legislative and administrative processes at both the state and federal levels.

“Both the FTA and NTA are leaders in protecting and advancing the rights of trappers to use humane, science-based management practices,” said CSF president and CEO Jeff Crane. “CSF looks forward to strengthening our partnership with the FTA and NTA as we formally start to work together on conservation policy efforts that positively impact trappers and our wildlife resources.”
