EOTECH® and Easterseals Lead the way for the Mental Health Matters Movement

Easterseals Michigan recognizes the ever-growing need for mental health services and that is why they have partnered with EOTECH to launch the Mental Health Matters Movement to encourage people to take a free, anonymous mental health screening.

“EOTECH is committed to giving back to our community through worthwhile initiatives. When you consider that every 40 seconds a person dies by suicide it makes this mission even more critical. In the time it takes a person to take this quick, anonymous screening, 3 people have lost their lives and that’s why it’s critical we do our part to get the word out” said Lisa Kemp, Director of Marketing. “Timely mental health treatment is the key to ending this tragedy, and we encourage anyone who might need help to take advantage of this free screening.”

For every mental health screening taken through the Easterseals Michigan website through November 11th, EOTECH will generously donate $1 to help the organization reach and surpass its goal of 5,000 people screened.

“Behavioral health is a key part of your overall well-being. Brief screenings are the quickest way to determine if you or someone you care about should connect with a behavioral health professional,” says Easterseals Michigan. “This program is completely anonymous and confidential, and immediately following the brief questionnaire, the results, recommendations, and key resources will be available.”

For more information on Easterseals Michigan and to join the Mental Health Matters Movement visit  www.easterseals.com/michigan/.

Z-Man® Wins Multiple Tackle Warehouse Awards

Anglers elect Z baits most popular in annual Viewer’s Choice Program

The best fishing tip of all is often the one staring at you from across the tackleshop aisle. As in, pay close attention to the lures whose selections are picked over or just plain sold out. Or, look at it this way: it’s the everyday anglers that buy and actually fish the tackle who prove what’s popular and ultimately most attractive to fish.

And given this simple truth, Z-Man just received a major vote of confidence.

Fresh from polling stations and virtual shopping carts, thousands of anglers have spoken, casting votes for the 2021 Tackle Warehouse Viewer’s Choice Awards. Garnering the winning votes in almost every category for which it qualified, Z-Man Fishing Products amassed four awards for its newest ElaZtech® softbaits and radical jigs.

Tackle Warehouse named Z-Man’s Hella CrawZ the Best New Craw or Creature Bait.

Among the category winning products, Z-Man took top honors in Best New Jig or Bladed Jig, Best New Worm or Misc. Soft Plastic, Best New Craw or Creature Bait and Best New Fishing Hooks, Weights & Jig Heads. An annual program administered by fishing retailer extraordinaire Tackle Warehouse (TW), the Viewer’s Choice Awards recognizes the industry’s most popular bass fishing products. Two voter groups—consumers and the fishing industry, comprised of the staff at TW, Tactical Bassin’, Tackle Tour and Bass University—determined the top lures in various categories, as well as new rods, reels, electronics and other fishing products.

A business manager for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 113 and a Colorado Springs native, Bradley is accustomed to hunting mule deer in the Colorado mountains.

This adventure took him to northeast Wyoming in search of a big whitetail buck among the irrigated fields and grass- and scrub-covered terrain of the Bighorn Mountain foothills.

Union Electrical Worker Brian Bradley scores big on his first whitetail hunt on an episode of the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance’s Brotherhood Outdoors TV series.

Hunting during the first stages of the rut, Bradley and his guide Mike Miller glassed, rattled, and grunted before an ideal buck presented itself. Then it was a matter of waiting for the perfect shot.

While following along on Bradley’s hunt, viewers also get a glimpse into his role as a union business manager. Senator Fischer Supports Historic, Bipartisan Wildlife Bill

Senator Deb Fischer is supporting a bipartisan wildlife conservation bill, the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act, that will dedicate $1.4 billion annually to locally-led efforts to help at-risk wildlife species in Nebraska and nationwide.

“This funding is vitally important to conserving fish and wildlife on private working lands throughout the state,” said George Cunningham of the Nebraska Wildlife Federation. “We thank Senator Fischer for recognizing the need to conserve at-risk species by co-sponsoring this legislation.”

The bill will send $17.2 million to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, which the agency will use to implement its wildlife action plan. Roughly 770 local species would benefit – including long-billed curlews, swift fox and blanding’s turtles. The funds can be used for collaborative efforts on private lands to maintain ecosystems such as the Nebraska Sandhills and other native grasslands.

“Saving the thousands of at-risk wildlife species will require bold, bipartisan leadership and unprecedented collaboration,” said Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation. “We are so grateful to Senator Fischer for leading the way on the historic Recovering America’s Wildlife Act that will have an immediate impact – saving species and creating jobs in Nebraska and all across the country.”

Representative Jeff Fortenberry (R-Lincoln) has led efforts in the House on behalf of the bill in partnership with Michigan Democrat Debbie Dingell for the past three legislative sessions. He and Representative Don Bacon (R-Omaha) are among the more than 125 bipartisan supporters of the current House bill

A WHOLE LOTTA TARGET FOR 1/3 THE SIZE AND PRICE

Rinehart Targets® Offers Three Big Game Target Options in its Woodland 1/3 Scale Series for Affordable, Realistic Practice Sessions this Season

Janesville, WI —Since the introduction of the first Rinehart 1/3 Scale Woodland Series Target, fans of the Rinehart Targets® brand just can’t get enough of these miniature big game 3D targets. Not only has Rinehart made it more affordable to take aim at an elk, caribou, or moose in your own backyard; thanks to the company’s innovative designs, when placed at 60-yards, all three simulate a 20-yard shot of the full-sized animal making your practice sessions both effective and fun.

“Our Woodland 1/3 Scale Series targets give shooters the quality and details of a full-sized Rinehart big game animal at a 1/3-scale size and price – offering a more affordable solution for realistic practice sessions for your big game hunts without having to invest in a full-sized animal,” said James McGovern, President of Rinehart Targets.

All three 1/3-Scale Woodland Series targets incorporate lifelike sculpted features and painted details for an incredibly realistic resemblance to the real animal. Each target is strategically shrunk down in size to an exact 1/3-scale replica of the live animal. The 1/3 Scale Elk target measures 38-inches tall, and 44-inches long. The 1/3 Scale Caribou measures 42-inches tall and 45-inches long. The 1/3 Scale Moose (Rinehart’s newest member of the pack) measures 36-inches tall and 31-inches long. Whichever animal you choose, its petite size will help you perfect your long-range shot, plus make transporting from the truck to camp and back again easy. And with suggested retail pricing just around $225 for each, even more shooters can practice taking on their dream trophy.

Like all Rinehart Woodland Series targets, all three 1/3 scale animals are constructed with the company’s solid FX Woodland Foam with a replaceable core made from Rinehart’s Signature Series foam. This means the target can take hits from the fastest arrows, and thanks to its self-healing foam core, arrow removal is also a snap. This unique foam construction also ensures the target is resistant to UV rays and harsh winter weather, making them ideal for year-round practice in the backyard or in the field. Plus, should countless seasons of shooting sessions finally take its toll, replacing the target core is fast and simple with Rinehart’s exclusive patented, locking insert system (sold separately).

BHA Responds to Administration Decision to Reestablish National Monuments, Restore Integrity to Antiquities Act

Presidential proclamation restores protections to millions of acres of public lands and waters

MISSOULA, Mont. – Backcountry Hunters & Anglers today commended a decision by the Biden administration to reinstate protections to three national monuments whose boundaries were reduced by the previous administration, restoring the integrity of the federal Antiquities Act and heeding the calls of hunters and anglers, conservationists, Tribal Nations and others.

BHA, together with a broad coalition of hunting and fishing groups and businesses, has consistently supported America’s national monuments system and the judicious use of the Antiquities Act as a means to permanently conserve important large landscapes. The presidential proclamation reestablishes the boundaries of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments and restores management conditions to the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument.

“The Antiquities Act is one of our nation’s most powerful tools to conserve large landscapes, secure important fish and wildlife habitat and safeguard traditional hunting and angling opportunities on our public lands and waters,” said BHA President and CEO Land Tawney. “Signed into law by Theodore Roosevelt, it’s been used by 16 presidents – eight Republicans and eight Democrats – to permanently sustain great places to hunt and fish. We’re glad to see the Biden administration restoring integrity to this bedrock conservation law.”

“Millions of Americans, including hunters and anglers, have raised our voices in support of our national monuments, sending a clear and uncompromising message about the role they play in our outdoor opportunities, local communities and economic health,” Tawney continued. “Now that this necessary action has been completed, we look forward to continuing to work with the administration to invest in future conservation efforts like the America the Beautiful initiative, assuring its implementation is executed through collaboration with hunters, anglers, private landowners, tribes and other diverse stakeholders.

Sen. Fischer supports bipartisan bill to benefit wildlife

LINCOLN, Nebraska — Sen. Deb Fischer has signed onto a bipartisan wildlife conservation bill, the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act, which will dedicate $1.4 billion annually to locally-led efforts to help at-risk wildlife species in Nebraska and nationwide.

Approximately $17 million would go to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and be used to implement its wildlife action plan, a cooperation with organizations and landowners interested in financial and technical assistance to address conservation concerns and improve fish and wildlife habitat. Private lands could receive funds for efforts that focus on Nebraska’s species of greatest conservation need and maintain diverse ecosystems, such as the Sandhills and other important grasslands.

Roughly 770 local at-risk species would benefit – including long-billed curlews, swift fox and Blanding’s turtles.

Several wildlife conservation organizations expressed their gratitude for Fischer’s support of the bill, a historic effort bringing together fish and wildlife agencies, businesses, organizations and landowners for common goals.

“We thank Sen. Fischer for co-sponsoring this landmark bipartisan effort,” said Nebraska Game and Parks Director Jim Douglas. “This bill provides needed funding for the conservation and care of all of Nebraska’s fish and wildlife through collaborative, voluntary efforts among private landowners and our many partners. This funding source will help recover at-risk species and ensure future generations can enjoy thriving fish and wildlife populations.”

Inside the Traditions Issue of Outdoor Life

The Traditions Issue of Outdoor Life is available now

“Let’s, for a moment, consider some things that have not changed. Or at least not substantially. I’m talking about our traditions of hunting and fishing, of course. When you get down to it, our hunting tradition is made up of genuine people who love being outdoors, harvesting their own food or pelts, and sharing their stories. This is how it’s always been, and this is how it still is today—even if the methods, tech, and aesthetics have all changed.”
—Alex Robinson, Editor-in-Chief

BLOODLINES

After years of hunting deer from treestands with her compound bow, Outdoor Life contributor Beka Garris was ready for a new challenge. She decided to teach herself how to properly shoot, and hunt, with a traditional bow. an old-school recurve. Her success inspired her dad to pick up his own recurve again, and Garris has been bringing her own daughter on hunts since she was six months old. The cover story gives readers a firsthand account of how swapping a compound for a recurve bow can shape the way three generations hunt.

CHOIR IN THE PINES

Outdoor Life contributor Durrell Smith takes readers inside a momentous day with the Ga-Fla Shooting Dog Handlers Club, where he writes about the deep history of Black dog-men in the South, and what a new generation can learn from them. “At sunrise, bobwhite quail sing in the morning to open up Sunday service, and dogmen are the tenors of the Red Hills choir. My own dogs bark wildly, incessantly, their barks mixing in with our laughter as Joe Fryson’s voice rumbles through the woods at the beginning of each brace…While you’ll see some truly incredible dog work (and some fine horse work too) at this field trial, it’s much more than a competition. It’s among these longleaf pines that we find a particular kind of sanctuary that nurtures the spirit of great bird dogs and the centuries-old traditions that the clubs seek to uphold.”

BIRDS OF A FEATHER

“A dad like mine is embarrassing when you’re 13. By the time I graduated high school, I thought he was hilarious. At 29, I’m torn between admiration and exasperation. My hunting buddy is a control freak reveling in the lawlessness of old age,” writes Natalie Krebs, Senior Deputy Editor. Anyone hunter can tell you that, hunting with family is filled with highs and lows; Krebs experienced all of them on a recent turkey hunt with her dad.

Essential Things That You Need To Bring On Every Hunting Trip

If you’re going on a hunting trip, then there are some things that you need to bring with you. If you don’t properly prepare, then your trip could be cut short. You don’t want to get deep into the woods, only to find out that you’ve missed something important and you have to turn back. In this article, we are going to explain what some essential things you need to bring on your next hunt are:

First Aid Kit

When you’re going hunting, there’s always a chance that you could get injured. Even the most experienced hunters can get hurt from time to time. You should always keep your first aid kit well-stocked so that you can deal with any injuries that occur. You need to make sure that you keep your first aid kit in a dry place, inside your rucksack. You can buy first aid kits from pharmacies, health stores, and even supermarkets.

Tree Stand

A tree stand is also something that you’ll want to bring with you when you go hunting. According to the hunting specialists from https://www.deerhuntingguide.net/best-climbing-tree-stand.html, tree stands make climbing trees more comfortable. If you’re trying to lug heavy hunting gear up a tree without a stand, then there’s a chance that you could hurt yourself or damage your equipment. Tree stands are affordable and easy to find. They’re a piece of equipment that you should always bring with you when you’re hunting in the woods.

Rain Gear

You can’t always accurately predict the weather. If it starts raining when you’re out hunting, your trip could be cut short. It could also be dangerous if you’re far out in the woods and don’t have appropriate clothing or equipment. Carrying rain gear is always useful. At the very least, you should try to wear waterproof clothes. Make sure you always check the forecast before you go out so that you don’t get taken by surprise.

Food And Water

If you’re going out on a long hunting trip, then you need to make sure that you bring food and water along with you. A lot of hunters don’t plan ahead and find themselves cutting their trips short because they’re hungry and thirsty. Not bringing food and water can also be dangerous if you’re going out for extended periods of time in warm weather.
