New Gamakatsu® Fillet Knives

Custom-designed Gamakatsu® fillet knives are the newest edition to the stellar Gamakatsu line of fishing and outdoor products. Four different-sized fillet knives are designed in the USA with attention to detail. Gamakatsu hits all the points on what goes into a practical, purpose-driven set of fillet knives for the novice or professional.

The new Gamakatsu fillet knives are loaded with features that anglers will love. The flexible blade is supposed to “give” a little, allowing it to cut through fish easily. This flexibility allows for the more precise cuts required for delicate meats. This style of blade makes it easy to quickly transform a whole fish into a set of precisely cut fillets.

Since they’re designed for preparing fish, fillet knives often have to work in wet environments. Corrosion-resistant steel that is easy to clean is a must-have. Gamakatsu’s line of Fillet Knives also features 420J2 Stainless Steel blades with a DLC coating (Diamond-Like Carbon).

Anglers have the option to choose from four-different knives based on their needs. The GMKT6F has a 6-inch long blade and is ideal for small to medium sized fish. The 7-inch GMKT7FS features a spoon at the end of the handle for a quick and easy way to open and clean entrails or remove bloodlines. The two larger knives are the GMKT7.5F with a 7.5-inch long blade and the GMKT9F featuring the longest blade at 9-inches long.

These custom-designed Gamakatsu fillet knives feature a blue and gray G-Grip handle: glass-filled nylon and rubber overmold for a secure grip. A simple blade protector style sheath keeps the knives safe to handle, clean, and ready for service. Regardless of which you choose, rest assured that the custom-designed Gamakatsu fillet knives will serve you well for years to come!

TSS Tungsten Putty Debuts in ICAST New Product Showcase

Innovative, Eco-Friendly Weighting System Makes a Splash at ICAST 2022

Versatility is the key to success. Why jig for largemouth along the bottom if they are chasing baitfish near the surface, or swing unweighted streamers to rainbows that are sampling nymphs in deep runs? To capture fish with consistency, anglers must present the right lure at the right depth – which generally means, assisted by exactly the right amount of weight.

TSS Fish Tungsten Putty is the perfect solution for anglers that demand maximum versatility to optimize their catch rate. A unique, moldable weighting option that excels across the entire spectrum of fishing situations, TSS Fish Tungsten Putty is a forward-looking, eco-friendly system that enables anglers to master the conditions and bring fish to hand. Mold a noodle of TSS Fish Tungsten Putty along a segment of tippet to add weight without adding water resistance. Wrap a thin ribbon around a Wooly Bugger to instantly swing it deeper into dark, trout-laden holes. TSS Fish Tungsten Putty belongs in every fly angler’s vest – and you can see it for the first time in the Fly Fishing Accessory category of the ICAST 2022 New Product Showcase.

“The future of fishing weights – whether for conventional or fly fishing applications – is Tungsten,” notes Dr. Jason Halfen, a Ph.D. chemist and owner of The Technological Angler. “Tungsten, of course, is a nontoxic metal, and using Tungsten as a lead alternative makes perfect sense from a biological and environmental standpoint. A number of States have already implemented laws to regulate – and in some cases ban –certain types of lead-based tackle, and similar regulatory efforts are ongoing in other States. The sooner that anglers embrace Tungsten as the future of fishing weights, the better.”

“Tungsten Putty from TSS Fish is an incredibly versatile product that harnesses the positive attributes of Tungsten – especially its high density relative to lead – and places them into a unique material that can be molded into any size or shape an angler desires,” continues Dr. Halfen. “Keeping a tin of TSS Tungsten Putty in your pocket warms the material and makes it quite pliable, so you can remove a portion and mold it using your fingers into the desired size and shape. The putty remains workable as long as it is warm – but as soon as it contacts cool water, the putty stiffens and hardens into a custom Tungsten weight, perfectly suited to your needs. TSS Fish Tungsten Putty replaces every lead split shot and lead wire that fly anglers use to pull their presentations into deeper water.”

Attention to Detail: The Key to Finishing AG Composites Best-in-Class Rifle Stocks

The most successful college basketball coach of all time, UCLA’s John Wooden, once said, “It’s the little details that are vital. Little things make big things happen.” Such is the philosophy of AG Composites’ highly skilled Stock Finisher, Blake Williams. An extremely difficult job that requires painstaking attention to detail, former U.S. Marine Williams has taken the position to a whole new level.

“My job as the Finish Technician makes me responsible for preparing rifle stocks to be painted and/or camouflaged,” Williams said. “It’s a job that requires a high level of attention to detail. By using a variety of hand tools and approved filler materials, I first look at each stock we produce to identify any blemishes or cosmetic defects. My goal is to repair the defect in a way that it will not be visible and cannot be felt when the stock is completed. The finished stock is then inspected by the quality control team, who will either pass or fail it. Should it fail, the technician and I will address the issues, fix them and turn it back in to be inspected again.”

Williams has been with AG Composites for four years. “I love working here,” Williams said. “We have a great team that is dedicated to making the best quality stocks in the business. The owners take great care of the employees and the company itself.”

Williams has been a shooter since early childhood when he got his first .22. and became a much more avid firearm enthusiast while in the Marines. He became familiar with AG Composites through a fellow Marine when he was working for a local moving company and doing some firearm refinishing and custom work on the side.

“I have always believed in hiring great people then giving them the freedom to do their job without micromanaging them,” said AG Composites owner Matt Tandy. “Blake is a huge asset to  AG Composites. He is dedicated to his work, takes time during his day to teach employees, and is always thinking of ways to improve our product and process. While doing all this, he has fun and is a source of motivation. We are truly glad he is part of the AG team.”

New G. Loomis Euro Nymphing Rod Debuts in ICAST New Product Showcase

Purpose-Driven Fly Rod Joins the IMX-PROe lineup

G. Loomis rods enable success by boosting anglers’ natural ability in any setting where a fly is cast. True disciples of modern euro nymphing require specialized tools with innovative actions and components configured to satisfy a set of unique tactical demands – like the G. Loomis IMX-PROe. At ICAST 2022, G. Loomis will introduce the newest member of the IMX-PROe family – a 10’, 3-weight rod – designed for euro nymphing anglers stalking fish in small creeks.

G. Loomis handcrafts all IMX-PROe rods using high-modulus, high-strength graphite fibers and advanced GL7 nanotechnology resin to yield a light, sensitive, and durable blank. Exclusive Conduit Core Technology creates a thinner blank to reduce its overall weight while providing additional reinforcement with strategic scrim placement to yield precise tapers and technique-specific flex. Each IMX-PROe rod incorporates proprietary Multi-Taper Design to enhance durability while further decreasing the blank’s weight. A series of “micro tapers” within the overall taper of the rod, G. Loomis’ innovative Multi-Taper Design process enables rod engineers to use more material on potential stress points and less material everywhere else. The result is a library of precisely defined rod lengths, powers, and actions that strike the perfect balance between durability and performance.

Additional refinements continue along the length of each IMX-PROe: The cork handle is slender and provides a comfortable grip for anglers that hold the rod close to the reel. The hook keeper is relocated forward on the rod to allow anglers to cradle the blank with their forefinger for increased feel and sensitivity. Thoughtfully designed guide placement, starting at the stripper guide, eliminates line droops and sags and ensures full contact between the line and the guides.

The new 10’, 3-weight rod keeps as much line off the water as possible as the angler guides the fly down current, watching for a strike. Then, the sensitive tip and moderate power midsection provide a positive hookset, absorb the fight, and land fish in tight quarters. Indeed, the benefits of Multi-Taper Design are on full display in the IMX-PROe, creating a flexible and forgiving tip section, second and third sections with more lifting power, and a butt section that draws fish the angler’s hand.

All crappie anglers share the same needs: keep live bait frisky to help fill the livewell, and keep the catch of the day fresh and cold on its way to the cleaning table. At ICAST 2022, Smith’s Consumer Products – the Edge Experts since 1886 – will introduce a unique solution that addresses both of these needs: the Mr. Crappie Chiller Insulated 30-Inch Bait and Fish Bag.

Designed with input and insights from Wally Marshall, Smith’s Mr. Crappie Chiller Insulated 30-inch Bait and Fish Bag is the premier choice for keeping fish destined for the table cold and fresh, doubling as a bait bag for keeping live shiners and minnows lively and ready for action. Constructed from heavy-duty, washable, marine-grade tarpaulin both inside and out, Smiths Insulated Fish Bag has a capacity of approximately 35 quarts. TSS Partners with King Eider Communications

Tungsten Super Slam, a leader in the hunting industry, is bringing its expertise and experience to the fishing world in the form of a new weighted putty that can be instantly applied to lines, lures, and nets. In order to get the word out, they have partnered with King Eider Communications. “At TSS we were already using environmentally-friendly tungsten in our shotgun shells for the hunting industry,” shares Blake Rice, CEO of TSS Super Slam and TSS Fish. “On a trip overseas to visit our manufacturer, we realized the ability to have tungsten products made to our specifications.

“This led us to consider the fishing industry. We came back to the States, reached out to Mustad to partner with them on a far superior hook. From there, TSS Fish was formed.”

While the value of tungsten has long been recognized, it is primarily offered only in traditional, prefabricated shapes that must be added prior to rigging a hook or lure.

“After extensive research, we found that there was a need for tungsten putty and decided to add it to our tungsten line up.”

Because it is 1.7 times as dense as lead, tungsten is more sensitive and more streamlined, allowing easier access to tight spots where fish often hide. In addition to its smaller size at a given weight, nontoxic tungsten also leaves a smaller environmental footprint on our fisheries.  The pliability of putty permits anglers to immediately add just the right amount of weight to their offerings. The applications are numerous for fly fishing, ice fishing, saltwater and fresh, cast nets – anywhere a little extra weight is needed in a pinch.

The Next Phase of Finesse

Z-Man® Micro Finesse™ System conveys unmatched action, durability and fish-catching performance

“When you build baits with ElaZtech,” suggests Jolee Myers, Operations Manager for Z-Man Fishing, “it unlocks a whole other horizon of bait shapes, sizes and performance. That’s just some of the sorcery behind Z-Man’s Micro Finesse system—an emerging series of super soft, vibrant, fish catching baits created with 10X Tough ElaZtech®.”

Beginning three years ago, Z-Man undertook the challenge of crafting five micro-sized bait profiles, each tailored to fish seamlessly with a namesake Micro Finesse ShroomZ™ jighead.

“This spring, we tied on a single Micro Finesse bait prototype and proceeded to catch over 100 fish and at least 10 different species,” notes Myers. “That same bait is still tied up and going strong today.”

Pioneering the development and formulation of thermoplastic softbaits, Z-Man’s ElaZtech remains the only ‘superplastic’ fishing lures manufactured in the USA. “By maintaining our US based operations, we’re able to control and perfect every aspect of bait making. Without our on-site, hands-on attention to details, we couldn’t create such specific, tiny bait profiles, including fine-tuned anatomy and swimming actions. Micro Finesse is going to make a lot of anglers happy.”

King Eider Signs Trophy Graph Systems

“Put your money where your mount is.”

More than a slogan, that’s the guiding principle at Trophy Graph Systems, innovative fabricator of ultra-sturdy, ergonomic mounts for today’s modern marine electronics and the harsh environs they visit.

While anglers line up to shell out thousands of dollars on multiple graphs and screens for their boats, they seldom think about what’s supporting that investment.

“Sturdy as can be,” says Johnny Christy of his company’s offerings. “The mounts are made of quarter inch aluminum, which is obviously strong, but if you have to move a hole or make it a little bigger, it’s easy drilling. It’s all powder coated so it won’t oxidize.”

Trophy Graph Systems are user-friendly as they are strong. “Simplicity is the key,” notes Christy. “Easy install and you’re done. We want to keep it simple. You don’t have to mount two or three things. It’s all assembled.”

Introducing SPRO® Outsider Crankbaits – A New Concept in Crankbait Design

The aim for creating the new SPRO® Outsider Crankbaits was simple. Design a bait that is easier to cast and has a more responsive action. Three designers put their heads together and achieved this goal, creating Outsider Crankbaits—one with its weight on the outside. The new family of Outsiders covers shallow to deep water and everything in between.

John Crews, Chris Johnston and Cory Johnston were the innovators behind this new concept. They asked themselves, “What happens if we move the bait’s weight to the outside? Does it change how it performs?” The three anglers/designers found out it greatly impacted how the crankbait’s action responded in the water, and as a bonus, it was much easier to cast!

SPRO’s Outsider Crankbaits are a new concept in diving crankbaits. By shifting the weight to the outside, the Outsider is easier to cast with more responsive action in the water – design traits that allow anglers to cover more water and catch more fish.

The Outsider is available in three sizes covering different water depths and targeting fish no matter where they lurk. The SR 55 is a ⅜ oz., square-bill, shallow running bait for 3 to 4 feet of water. The MR 60 is slightly bigger (60 mm) and heavier (5/8 oz.) for medium running from 7 to 9 feet. The DD 80 is the biggest Outsider tuned for fishing in 19 to 21 feet. The DD 80’s 1.25 oz. weight and larger size allow the crankbait to dive quickly and easily cruise the depths. Outsider Crankbaits also include premium Gamakatsu hooks for ready-to-fish convenience right out of the package.
