Roofnest Sparrow Adventure Elevates Campers’ Outdoor Adventures

Sparrow Adventure’s segment-exclusive crossbars allow campers to carry up to 100 pounds of gear on top of their rooftop tent.

BOULDER — Roofnest revealed the first-ever Sparrow Adventure and Sparrow Adventure XL hard-shell rooftop tents, the only rooftop tent on the market with built-in crossbars. The segment-exclusive integrated crossbars allow campers to carry up to 100 pounds extra gear on top of their Sparrow Adventure rooftop tent.

“Campers no longer have to choose between mounting either their tent or toys to the roof of their vehicle; now they can do both. From bikes, kayaks, paddle boards, fly-fishing rods, and more, Sparrow Adventure can accommodate campers’ favorite outdoor gear,” said Roofnest founder and CEO Tim Nickles. “Sparrow Adventure makes camping easier, too. Bedding can be stored inside the tent for quick setup and wet and dirty gear can be stored on top of the crossbars, keeping your car clean and organized.”

Sparrow Adventure comes in two sizes. Sparrow Adventure measures 84 inches long and 50 inches wide and sleeps two adults. Sparrow Adventure XL is 84 inches long and 56 inches wide and sleeps two to three adults. Both close down to a mere 12 inches tall, leaving enough room for campers to store their bedding inside the tent when it’s closed.

Campers can attach up to 100 pounds of gear to the top of Sparrow Adventure. The internally mounted, fast-deploying marine-grade struts are strong enough to support up to 40 pounds of gear (more than the average kayak) even while the tent is open. That means campers don’t need to fully unpack before going to sleep.

ONCRUX Releases Sanitizing Liquid Chalk, Less Greasy Scented Salve, and Loose Chalks

The sports chalk and hand care company ONCRUX recently launched two lines of products – CRUXGRIP and CRUXCARE. CRUXGRIP was developed to handle all your chalk needs while CRUXCARE is the after-climb ritual your skin craves.

ONCRUX is dedicated to creating high quality products using the best ingredients to bring you more effective and cleaner products than what is currently on the market. ONCRUX currently offers four different products across two lines – CRUXGRIP Liquid Chalk, CRUXGRIP Powder Chalk, CRUXGRIP Crumble Chalk, and CRUXCARE Salve.

CRUXGRIP liquid chalk was formulated to sanitize and stay on your hands longer, without causing over-drying and irritation to hands.  That means less chalking up and cleaning up. CRUXGRIP stays on your hands without transferring to other surfaces, allowing you to touch your gym bag and smartphone without creating a mess. CRUXGRIP is offered in a 2 fl oz. bottle with a carabiner, a 6.5 fl oz. bottle, and a 16 fl oz. bottle with a pump.

CRUXGRIP loose chalk is available in two forms: crumble and powder. No additives, just high quality chalk. CRUXGRIP powder chalk comes in a fine powder form while the crumble contains small chunks of chalk.  This gives athletes the choice to pick what feels right for them. CRUXGRIP powder is offered in a 14 oz. bag while CRUXGRIP crumble will be offered in a 11 oz bag.

CRUXCARE salve is your skin’s new best friend.  Made from the highest quality natural ingredients  including shea butter, jojoba oil, lavender essential oil, rosemary essential oil, geranium essential oil and candelilla wax, CRUXCARE leaves your hands smelling fresh and herbaceous. Thanks to the blend of essential oils and ingredients sourced from plants CRUXCARE salve is effective at repairing skin flappers, ripped tips, scrapes, and cuts. Unlike other salves on the market, CRUXCARE salve moisturizes and absorbs quickly into the skin leaving a silky smooth after feel.  The specially crafted formula used for CRUXCARE salve is less greasy and absorbs quickly into skin, allowing you to apply anytime throughout the day.  Just like our CRUXGRIP liquid chalk, CRUXCARE salve stays where it is meant to be – on your skin.  Feel free to use it on hands, feet, elbows, knees, or anywhere else your skin might need some extra care.  CRUXCARE salve is currently offered in a 1.7 oz container.

AMU’s Roe, Sherry Lead 2021 National Matches Smallbore Events

CAMP PERRY, Ohio – SPC Ivan Roe, 25, of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) was the leading scorer of the Three-Position Aggregate Smallbore competition, held during the annual National Matches at Camp Perry. The event was facilitated by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), which began its smallbore match series back in 2018.

Though a recent addition to the CMP National Matches schedule, smallbore has been a staple at Camp Perry for decades – welcoming thousands of competitors over the years. For Roe, 2021 marked his very first experience competing in smallbore on the historical National Guard base.

Bremen Butler led the Junior Three-Position Aggregate at the National Matches.

“I really had no expectations,” he said of his first trip to Camp Perry. “Every day I got down, it was, ‘What’s going to happen today?’ It’s been a learning experience the entire time.”

Known for its inconsistent (to put it gently) conditions, Camp Perry challenged Roe in ways he didn’t anticipate.

In 2021, the Smallbore Small Arms Firing School appeared at Camp Perry for the second time and was led by SSF Gray (pictured) and other members of the AMU.

“I was told to prepare for it to be unbelievably windy,” he explained. “The first day was nuts – I’ve never been blown around in prone before. That was something completely new. They told me it was going to be windy but I wasn’t ready for how windy, exactly – but, I made it work.”

How to Protect Yourself from Mosquitoes

Did you know that there are over 3000 different kinds of mosquitoes in the world today?

The mosquito is one of the deadliest creatures in the world.  The mosquito itself is not a killer, but they are a vector or carrier for a number of deadly diseases for humans.  Mosquito-borne diseases cause over a million deaths worldwide each year, with a vast majority of those diseases effecting the elderly and our youth.

The majority of mosquito-borne diseases that cause the most deaths worldwide are transferred from three individual species of mosquitoes.  The Anopheles mosquitoes are the only mosquito that carries malaria, and they are also known to carry filariasis (elephantiasis) and encephalitis.  The Culex mosquitoes carry encephalitis, filariasis, and the West Nile virus.  The Aedes mosquitoes, including the Asian Tiger mosquito, carry yellow fever, dengue fever and encephalitis.  These mosquitoes carry disease through parasites attached to their body or through virus coming into the mosquito and then being transferred back to a new host through the saliva of the mosquito.

We know that mosquitoes as a vector are a tremendous killer of humans through carrying and transferring these diseases.  There are trillions of these flying insects worldwide.  What most people don’t understand is that mosquitoes are a major source of food and a strategic part of the ecosystem.  Bats, birds, fish, animals, dragonflies, frogs and more eat mosquitoes and the bodies of mosquitoes in the dirt and waters of our world create nutrients for many species.  Looking at current numbers, scientists are telling us that mosquitoes are increasing with higher global temperatures.

Mosquitoes have a life cycle of eggs, larva, pupa and adult.  The eggs are laid on the water surface and then descend into the water, feeding on algae and organic material.  They then rise as a pupa and then into adult flying insects.  It is the females that bite the skin and feed on the blood of animals and humans.  Horses, cattle and wildlife are the primary sources of blood for mosquitoes, although some hunters would swear they are the primary target of these biting insects.  The female mosquito transfers saliva into the host during the bite which causes a rash and transmits pathogens to these new hosts.

Summer Muskies Love Bucktails

Dr. Jason Halfen

Summer is the perfect time to churn the water with bucktails. Water temperatures are approaching their annual peaks, and muskies are on the chew, ready to chase down fast-moving presentations. Your hunt for summer muskies will begin with weeds, and it’s likely that you won’t need to look further than your lake’s dense beds of cabbage and coontail to garner all of the summer musky action you’ll ever need. Let’s examine the connection between weeds, in-line spinners, and summer muskies, so you can put more of these apex predators in the boat this season.

Of all the possible weed types found in musky waters, cabbage weeds and coontail will attract and hold the most fish. Cabbage grows with stout vertical stems, interrupted regularly by long, broad leaves. Coontail is somewhat less robust but grows in beds that are more dense than cabbage, and the overall cylindrical shape of a coontail stalk provides many of the same musky-attracting characteristics as cabbage. Indeed, both weeds cast shade within the water column, reducing local water temperature and providing respite from the bright midday sun. Dense stands of cabbage and coontail provide ample cover for baitfish and small panfish, guaranteeing that resident musky and pike have an abundant food supply.

Well-honed sonar interpretation skills will help an angler to identify the best weeds for summer musky fishing. Indeed, cabbage and coontail reveal themselves in excellent detail in Humminbird’s MEGA Side Imaging: cabbage weeds frequently have bright returns in Side Imaging, as their large, waxy leaves are excellent reflectors of sonar energy. Moreover, mature cabbage and coontail can both be quite tall, and as a result, cast characteristic, long sonar shadows in Side Imaging. So, if you’ve found a dense stand of weeds with bright Side Imaging sonar returns as well as long, dark sonar shadows, chances are that you’ve located a bed of cabbage or coontail that may hold summer muskies.

If you haven’t yet added Side Imaging to your bag of fish-finding tricks, consider using an underwater camera to confirm weed identifications and focus your musky fishing. The Aqua-Vu Micro Revolution Pro 5.0 camera is a compact underwater camera system that fits into any musky angler’s boat – and budget. The camera’s optics provide a crisp underwater video feed in clear to moderately clear waters and do an excellent job of identifying both structure and fish. The Aqua-Vu Micro Revolution features a long-lasting lithium Ion battery system to power many musky hunting trips and includes an integrated cable management system that makes deploying and stowing the optics quick and easy. For an ultra-clear, HD-quality video feed, consider the larger Aqua-Vu HD10i Pro Gen 2camera system, which will also function better in deep water and in those musky haunts with more noticeable stain – places like Minnesota’s Lake of the Woods, or tannin-stained waters of Wisconsin’s famous Chippewa Flowage.

Planning to Go on a Hunting Trip? Here’s How to Prepare

A hunting trip is an activity that takes a lot of careful planning. The better prepared you are, the more bountiful the trip is going to be. Whether you’re an experienced hunter or a newcomer to the hobby, you might want to read on and check what you should bring on your next hunting trip.

Ready Your Permits

In most states, hunters are required to get permits before they can begin hunting. It’s very important that you have your permits ready. Hunting without the proper documents is punishable by law. Coordinate with your local government agency with regards to the guidelines for legal hunting.

Study The Hunting Area And The Weather

Not studying the hunting area before the day of the hunt is a bad idea. Aside from getting into all sorts of trouble, you also risk yourself of encountering creatures you can’t handle. Ideally, you’d want to study the lay of the land as well as which animals inhabit the area too.

It’s also very important that you try to see what the weather will be like on the day of the trip. This really matters as it will help you wear the right clothing for the trip. Being properly dressed does wonders for any hunting trip as it allows you to hunt as comfortably as possible.

While you’re at it, determine what type of creatures you can hunt as well. Keep in mind that you’re not allowed to hunt any creature you see in a hunting ground. Rare and endangered species should definitely not be within your crosshairs.
