2021 Wisconsin Ring-Necked Pheasant SeasonOpens Oct. 16

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) wishes hunters luck and safety during the upcoming 2021 pheasant hunting season. The season opens statewide at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16 and runs through Jan. 9, 2022.

Several other seasons also open Oct. 16, including bobwhite quail and Hungarian partridge statewide, and ruffed grouse in Zone B. Like pheasant, the bobwhite quail and Hungarian partridge seasons open at 9 a.m. on the first day of the season. The ruffed grouse season opens with the start of legal shooting hours.

“Pheasant hunting offers a fantastic means to work your hunting dog while also experiencing the unique grassland habitats spread across the southern part of the state,” said Alaina Gerrits, DNR Wildlife Biologist.

Pheasants are one of the most sought-after gamebirds in North America, and populations do best in the agricultural landscape of southern and western Wisconsin, provided there is grassland habitat present in sufficient quantities to meet their food and cover needs throughout the year.

The department continues to prioritize grassland habitat management and creation, especially in the southern half of the state where pheasants were historically abundant.

Adept Armor President Publishes “Body Armor: and Light Ballistic Armor Materials and Systems” Book

Jake Ganor, president of Adept Armor publishes a book providing a comprehensive understanding of how armor plates are designed, the materials used, performance characteristics, ballistic testing protocols, and what’s in the near future for body armor.

Adept Armor president, Jake Ganor, has just published an Amazon Kindle Edition book and Amazon paperback book rated number 1 new release in Military Technology for the body armor end-user, titled: “Body Armor: and Light Ballistic Armor Materials and Systems.

The book helps the end-user, whether military, law enforcement, security, or private citizen, better understand the materials and science behind ballistic body armor systems. It gives a general overview of today’s offerings, as well as, providing a history of body armor in the modern era.

“My approach has been to simply provide information in as straightforward and readable manner as possible.” Jake Ganor wrote in the preface. He further notes that “There are several technical books available on the subject of modern ballistic armor, but those books focus on much heavier vehicular armor systems, and the materials and methods involved are very different. This is the first book available on the material construction of body armor.”

The book is divided into four sections. The initial chapters review the main types of body armor offered today. Subsequent chapters dive deeper into body armor materials, properties, histories, uses, and what the future holds. The third section reviews the combat helmet and its history. The final section includes appendices providing the reader with supplemental statistical, technical, and terminological information, including a comprehensive glossary.

Small Seeds Are Not an Issue With Firminator’s Accurate Seeding System

Among the many features that make Ranew’s Outdoor Equipment Firminator an all-in-one food plot implement the most versatile piece of equipment in the industry is the Accurate Seeding System. It allows the Firminator to handle any seed sizes from large corn, soybeans, peas and sunflowers down to the tiniest clovers, without seed waste or need to change seed hoppers.

Planting seed blends are often a better option. It provides a greater variety of plants to widen the window of your food plots’ attractiveness and a hedge against environmental fluctuations like early or late frosts or varying amounts of rainfall. However, different plants sometimes have very different sizes of seeds and accommodating a range of seed sizes can be problematic for conventional food plotting equipment. This is especially true when using smaller seed-like clover, which is often part of the more popular wildlife food plot blends.

The Firminator’s Accurate Seeding Seed System ensures that won’t be the case. Once you fill the seed hopper, you can adjust the metering openings in one-sixteenth-inch graduations until you find the proper selection for the largest seed. Then let the Accurate Seeding System do the rest. As you move forward, a seed is dropped into a specially designed baffle that thoroughly distributes it in front of the culti-packer, which then rolls over the seed and compacts soil, enhancing seed-to-soil contact for better germination rates and protection from wind deflection.

Because the system is ground-driven, the seed is metered out relative to the speed you travel so you can control the seeding rate, another plus when using smaller seeds. When you stop, the seed stops falling, so you won’t have to worry about wasting smaller seed-like clover that may continue to spill out of other hoppers.

With the optional seed hopper agitator, you can even spread blends with extreme size differences in a single pass. The agitator helps keep seed thoroughly mixed and prevents smaller seeds from sifting through too quickly.

Yamaha Funds Six All Kids Bike Programs in Georgia and California

National Movement Supports Future of Outdoor Recreation and Health Habits for Youth

Yamaha Motor Corp., USA, announces $30,000 in funding to All Kids Bike, covering the cost for six programs teaching kids in Georgia and  California public schools’ kindergarten Physical Education (PE)  classes how to ride bikes. With the grant provided through the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative (OAI), Yamaha joins the national  movement helping kids transition from digital screens to going outside and  learning important life skills, along with building  confidence and coordination that feeds into lifelong enthusiasm for outdoor recreation.

“With kids in the U.S. spending an average of seven hours a day on a digital screen, it’s never been more important for companies like Yamaha to invest in the future of outdoor recreation by getting our youth off of the devices, and participating in healthy and fun activities to increase their confidence, instill valuable life lessons, and simply enjoy all the outdoors has to offer,” said Steve Nessl, Yamaha’s  Motorsports Marketing Manager.

“Research shows approximately seventy-five percent of kids won’t even ride a bicycle one time this year,” said Ryan McFarland, All Kids Bike founder, who helped Yamaha employees deliver bikes to Morris Elementary in Cypress last month. “We believe it’s critical for the future of our kids and our communities to change that stat, so All Kids Bike is on a mission to teach every kid in America how to ride a bike in kindergarten PE class. We share a common goal with the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative of getting people outside and enjoying nature. This is a big win for our program, but mostly for the kids at these schools.”

Yamaha Motor Corp., USA, (YMUS) employees from the Marietta, Georgia, and Cypress, California corporate offices, and Yamaha Motor Manufacturing Corporation of America (YMMC) personnel, in Newnan, Georgia, recently volunteered their time to build and deliver bikes and helmets to local schools. Full All Kids Bike programs, including 24 balance bikes, pedal conversion kits, helmets, and a teacher’s bike, were delivered to Elm Street Elementary in Newnan, Georgia, A.L. Burruss Elementary School in Marietta, Georgia, and Juliet Morris Elementary School in Cypress, California. Three more schools in Newnan, Marietta, and Cypress are also guaranteed funding through the Yamaha grant and will receive the same program support this year.

Badass Tents Company Backgrounder – Bringing Powersports Expertise and 56 years of Plastics Manufacturing Expertise to the Rooftop Tent Market

Badass Tents® engineers and manufacturers Made-in-USA high-performance rooftop tents for discerning outdoor enthusiasts who live the “go-big or go-home” life. With over 20 years’ experience in the demanding powersports industry, and 56+ years in the plastics and composites industries, Badass Tents (also known as BA Tents) used this yardstick to develop next-level modern tents that exceed all current market expectations, performance that enhance consumer enjoyment and reduce carbon footprint.

Roger Davis founded Badass Tents in 2020. He rallied his engineering & manufacturing teams to use their knowledge of powersport aerodynamics and durable plastics, used in commercial, automotive and medical products, to develop best-in-class rooftop tents that someone like him would be proud to install on their vehicles. Being an avid off-roader and camper, he saw an opportunity to develop rooftop tents that fit in your garage, don’t add wind noise or reduce gas milage and offer a better aesthetic through a streamlined design that integrates with vehicles and most importantly, look Badass. Some of the patented features like the moonroof and 360-degree views utilized in BA Tents were inspired by his love of bringing the outside in and watching the spectacular desert night skies and surroundings. The modular design makes BA Tents easy to ship in a flatpack to consumers, and dealers, for an easy assembly and installation.

When Davis conceptualized the company, he wanted to name it after his beautiful wife Danielle, who shares his passion for the outdoors with their family. When discussing this with her, she raised an eyebrow and said, “I don’t know about that idea, the only thing I can think of is my nickname, Badass.” The light turned on and Roger imagined that you would never forget a name like Badass Tents. The couple enjoys taking their two young children and Goldendoodle on their adventures and showing them the wonders of the world.

“Badass Tents are for people who live for the next adventure,” explained Badass Tents Founder Roger Davis. “They demand the best from themselves and the products they choose. They want something that not only performs, but looks great doing so – period.”

55 Hunt Fish 30×30 Members, Led by CSF, Submit Formal Recommendations to the Biden Administration Concerning the “America the Beautiful” Initiative

Earlier today, 55 members of the Hunt Fish 30×30 Coalition, led by the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF), submitted a set of formal recommendations for the Biden Administration’s “America the Beautiful” initiative, also referred to as “Thirty by Thirty.” The recommendations highlight several priorities of the sporting-conservation community as they relate to the development of the Administration’s forthcoming American Conservation and Stewardship Atlas which will serve as a measure of conservation and restoration progress to date.

The recommendations submitted to President Biden’s interagency working group reflect the priorities first outlined in the Hunt Fish 30×30 Coalition’s “Hunting and Fishing Community Statement on the 30×30 Initiative” that was developed in response to “Thirty by Thirty” legislation introduced at the state level in 2020. The statement, which has currently been signed by sixty-six sporting-conservation organizations, highlights the important role that sportsmen and women have played in the conservation of fish, wildlife, and natural ecosystems in the United States. Recognizing this history of conservation successes, the current recommendations present an opportunity to advance pragmatic, successful conservation efforts while recognizing many existing efforts that have, to date, been largely overlooked relative to this initiative.

“The release of the America the Beautiful report in May marked a step in the right direction that, if defined and implemented properly, could continue to build upon our past successes and maintain the United States’ position as the world leader in natural resource conservation,” said Jeff Crane, CSF’s President and CEO. “These recommendations provide the administration with a clear roadmap that highlights the role of America’s 55 million sportsmen and women, as the nation’s leading conservationists, in moving the needle on biodiversity conservation for generations.”

These recommendations were designed to provide an initial framework as the Administration’s interagency working group begins developing the American Conservation and Stewardship Atlas.

Key priorities of the recommendations include:

DU Conserve Films: Lowcountry Treasure

Ducks Unlimited’s (DU) latest Conserve Films release showcases South Carolina’s Ashepoo Combahee Edisto (ACE) Basin.

This area remains untouched by development thanks to group conservation efforts that enhance and protect not only lands that benefit waterfowl, but countless other wildlife and bird species.

ACE Basin Task Force President and DU supporter Charles Lane grew up nearby and has helped protect the area since the early 1990s.

“The ACE Basin is a partnership of nonprofits, state and federal agencies and private landowners,” Lane said. “When we started, we had the goal of protecting 90,000 acres of land here. That was a very lofty goal and we all wondered if that could be achieved. But the idea works and so far, we have protected a little more than 305,000 acres with a new goal of conserving 400,000.”

The driving force behind ACE Basin conservation begins with 1975-76 DU President Gaylord Donnelly. He wasn’t from South Carolina, but he loved the landscape and worked to protect it. The Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelly Foundation continue to fund the protection of the ACE Basin today.

DU awarded $3.2 Million to lead USDA CRP study

DU and partners to study the climate mitigation potential of CRP wetlands

Ducks Unlimited (DU) will serve as the lead organization for a recently awarded research grant totaling $3.2 million from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). As North America’s premier science-based wetland habitat conservation organization, this grant will help scientists assess the climate change mitigation potential of wetland restoration in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). The new study will focus on climate benefits to restoring drained wetlands across 15 states in the Central U.S.

Wetlands account for up to 30% of global carbon storage and restored wetlands can sequester carbon five times faster than restored grasslands. However, wetlands also have complex greenhouse gas cycles and it has been difficult to comprehensively account for the role of wetlands in climate mitigation. Across the American Midwest, an estimated 40-90% of wetlands have been drained since 1780. As a result, more than 80% of wetlands restoration under CRP takes place in this region.

“We’ve long known wetlands offer many ecosystem services that have an outsized benefit for wildlife and people,” said Dr. Ellen Herbert, DU’s Ecosystem Services Scientist. “This study will help improve our understanding of the potential of CRP-restored wetlands to mitigate the effects of climate change, improve water quality and provide habitat. We believe the data gathered from this study will ultimately demonstrate the effectiveness and overall values offered by CRP. And we greatly appreciate USDA for selecting DU to partner in this project.”

CRP is a voluntary program that provides a secure income stream to farmers, ranchers and other landowners as an incentive to establish long-term, resource-conserving cover on their land.

Champion Continues Kids & Clays Partnership to Support Ronald McDonald Houses

Champion Traps & Targets, makers of interactive and challenging target systems and trusted eye and ear protection, is continuing its support of the Kids & Clays Foundation for the second year in the row to help raise funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities chapters.

Kids & Clays supports participating Ronald McDonald House Charities chapters through shooting sports to improve the lives of critically ill children and their families. As a national sponsor, Champion sent a team to participate in the 20th annual sporting clays tournament fundraiser held by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Iowa with 54 squads in all attending.

Two local Ronald McDonald Houses were the beneficiaries of the fundraiser, supporting their mission to provide a home away from home for families so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little or no cost. The sold-out event raised over $110,000 and provided thousands of room nights and other comforts to critically ill children and their families at a time when they need it the most.

“The program has made an incredibly meaningful impact over the years thanks in part to the strong support we have from partners like Champion,” said Doug Jeanneret, Kids & Clays executive director. “Champion’s commitment to positive change extends well beyond their passion for shooting sports – it has resulted in critically ill children and their families seeing more compassion in their lives.”

Senior Brand Marketing Manager for Shooting Accessories Eliza Graves was part of the Champion team at the tournament. “We’re honored to continue this tremendous partnership with Kids & Clays,” she said. “Not only was it a fun event, but it truly makes a difference in the lives of so many people.”

SilencerCo is excited to announce the newest addition to their product line, the Hybrid 46M: the world’s first modular large bore suppressor. It is the natural evolution of the original large bore suppressor, SilencerCo’s Hybrid 46, with the added benefit of being modular, giving shooters the option of using it in either a short or long configuration. The Hybrid 46M and all other SilencerCo products are available at SilencerCo Retailers

Effectively reducing the sound signature of everything from 9mm to 10mm and 5.56 NATO to .458 SOCOM, the Hybrid 46M takes it to the next level for those who want the versatility of the Hybrid 46 with added modularity. It is compatible with virtually every centerfire firearm platform due to its wide range of available attachment accessories.

Included in the MSRP of $1,117.00, the Hybrid 46M ships with a multi-tool, a spanner tool, an ASR mount, a .46 caliber front cap and a .30 caliber front cap — everything the shooter needs to get started.

Z-Man® Wins Multiple Tackle Warehouse Awards

Anglers elect Z baits most popular in annual Viewer’s Choice Program

The best fishing tip of all is often the one staring at you from across the tackleshop aisle. As in, pay close attention to the lures whose selections are picked over or just plain sold out. Or, look at it this way: it’s the everyday anglers that buy and actually fish the tackle who prove what’s popular and ultimately most attractive to fish.

And given this simple truth, Z-Man just received a major vote of confidence.

Fresh from polling stations and virtual shopping carts, thousands of anglers have spoken, casting votes for the 2021 Tackle Warehouse Viewer’s Choice Awards. Garnering the winning votes in almost every category for which it qualified, Z-Man Fishing Products amassed four awards for its newest ElaZtech® softbaits and radical jigs.

Tackle Warehouse named Z-Man’s Hella CrawZ the Best New Craw or Creature Bait.

Among the category winning products, Z-Man took top honors in Best New Jig or Bladed Jig, Best New Worm or Misc. Soft Plastic, Best New Craw or Creature Bait and Best New Fishing Hooks, Weights & Jig Heads. An annual program administered by fishing retailer extraordinaire Tackle Warehouse (TW), the Viewer’s Choice Awards recognizes the industry’s most popular bass fishing products. Two voter groups—consumers and the fishing industry, comprised of the staff at TW, Tactical Bassin’, Tackle Tour and Bass University—determined the top lures in various categories, as well as new rods, reels, electronics and other fishing products.

Colorado Union Electrical Worker Experiences His First Whitetail Hunt on Brotherhood Outdoors TV

Spring Hill, Tenn.—Union electrician Brian Bradley scores big on his first-ever whitetail hunt when the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance’s (USA) Brotherhood Outdoors airs on the Sportsman Channel this week.
