Ground Venison

Here's a simple and versatile recipe for cooking ground venison. This flavorful and easy-to-make dish can be used as a base for various meals, such as tacos, pasta dishes, or casseroles.

Ingredients:
  • 1 pound ground venison
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced (optional)
  • 1 can (14 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese, chopped green onions, sour cream
Instructions:
  1. Prepare Ingredients:
    • Finely chop the onion, mince the garlic, and dice the bell pepper (if using).
  2. Cook Ground Venison:
    • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground venison and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks.
  3. Add Aromatics:
    • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant.
  4. Add Bell Pepper (Optional):
    • If using bell pepper, add it to the skillet and sauté for a few minutes until it starts to soften.
  5. Season the Mixture:
    • Stir in the diced tomatoes (with their juice) and tomato sauce. Add dried oregano, basil, thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
  6. Simmer:
    • Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer for 15-20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.
  7. Adjust Seasoning:
    • Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed. Add more salt, pepper, or herbs according to your preference.
  8. Serve:
    • Serve the ground venison mixture over cooked rice, pasta, or as a filling for tacos or burritos.
  9. Optional Toppings:
    • Garnish with shredded cheese, chopped green onions, or a dollop of sour cream if desired.

Feel free to customize this recipe based on your taste preferences. You can add additional vegetables, such as diced tomatoes or corn, to enhance the dish. This versatile ground venison mixture can be used in various recipes, making it a convenient and delicious option for home-cooked meals.
