Huk’s BassCAR to Race in the Federated Auto 400

The No. 3 Huk RCR Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 heads into the Federated Auto 400 on August 14. 2018 DAYTONA 500 Champion Austin Dillon will pilot the famed No. 3 car around the Richmond short track on August 14, showcasing the all-new “BassCar” paint scheme.

Sporting an entirely new look, the Camaro will feature a Huk exclusive pattern and largemouth bass styling by artist KC Scott. This car is sure to stand out from the crowd on race day. The paint scheme was nicknamed “The BassCAR” by the Richard Childress racing crew.

“I got a sneak peek of the BassCAR on the shop floor this week, and it made me even more excited to get to Richmond Raceway because it’s going to be one of the best-looking cars at the track,” said Dillon. “It’s a unique paint scheme, and I appreciate all of the attention to detail that went into designing the BassCar. It’s just as stylish as the Huk apparel that I wear.

“My team has put a ton of effort into getting the BassCar ready for Richmond, and I’ve been spending a lot of time preparing for the race in our simulator, watching race footage, and strategizing with my team. We’re at a key point in our season, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to go out and try and get a win for everyone at Huk.”

Dillon, who is in his ninth season driving the No. 3 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, has 16 previous starts at Richmond Raceway, with his best finish of sixth in 2018 and 2019.

Why are Packing Cubes Important to Hunters?

Success in the field depends on actually getting into the field, and the fastest way to do that is through planning, preparations and extensive organization. I was introduced to packing cubes while planning working photography trip to Hungary. I had to pack clothes for everything from hunting to the opera. I was traveling with camera gear, computers, cables, and batteries and I also had to look nice in the evenings. That trip was a working lesson on planning and preparation because once on the ground it was basically impossible to replace gear. If I did not have something with me, I did not get the photography I needed. Hunting is really no different.

That first trip, I used stuff sacks in different colors for different things. Orange was camera batteries, blue was cables, etc. While I no longer film hunting trips, the trips for my own hunting and guiding still requires the same level of organization. I have one stuff sack for my Woobie, one for knives, one for rope and ones for meat bags and other items we want to keep together and easily accessible in our go box.

This summer on a quick trip through the South, I tested out the Sea to Summit Garment Mesh Bags for my clothes so I would have shirts, underwear, socks, shorts and pants organized and ready to go. It made our 17 days on the road so easy. I liked being able to see through the mesh on these bags to know what was in each one. I just placed an additional order for more small bags that I plan to use for gear like electronics and one for my binocular case, extra lens cleaners and cleaning rags so it will be easy to just grab and go on my next trip.

The more time you spend organizing up front, the less time you will scramble to find the gear you need when the timing is critical. The Ultra-Sil fabric on these keeps these garment bags super light and easy to store up when empty. The small one is 10 x 7 by 4 in, the medium is 14 x 10 x 4 in, and the large is 16 by 12 by 4 in. The small is my absolute favorite; it holds four to five rolled shirts, a bunch of socks and underwear, or a small amount of gear. Look for these at Seatosummit.com.

How To Find Quality Gear for Your Outdoor Recreational Activities

Opting for good-quality equipment will help you make the best of your journey. This will depend on the nature of your recreational activities as well as the environment you’ll be exploring. Here are some useful tips to help you pack for your trip in the best possible way.

Getting Ready

No matter what you’ve set out to do in the wild, you’ll need to prepare well for it. It’s amazing how easy it is to forget essential stuff simply because we take it for granted in our everyday life. Before going on your adventure, it’s important to plan things well in advance, especially if it’s a new type of adventure. You’ll probably have to hit some stores, both physical and online, which can take some time.

Preparing Your Body

Recreational activities often involve a lot of physical movement. Whether you’re hiking, camping, mountain climbing, fishing, hunting, cycling, rafting, taking pictures, or just looking for cool locations for your next film, you’ll want to have the stamina for it.

Making a little time for some exercising in the days preceding your journey is definitely worthwhile. With the proper body conditioning, you can avoid cramps, muscle pain, and injuries. This is particularly important if you’ll be doing some strenuous physical activity throughout your trip.

Investing in Quality Gear

Your survival, safety, and comfort will mostly come down to the equipment you’ll prepare. For starters, you need to make a complete list of everything you might possibly need, which we’ll cover in the following section. Naturally, you’ll be limited to what you can safely carry in your backpack. A good backpack should be more than enough for the essential gear. Of course, this wouldn’t be as much of an issue if you’re taking a car or an RV.

Sea Falcon® Super Drain Jig is Ideal for Slow Currents

Versatility is essential when fishing in diverse situations, and the Sea Falcon® Super Drain offers an ideal option for deeper, slower-moving water. Once a well-kept secret among Japanese commercial anglers, the effectiveness of slow pitch jigging is now a fishing phenomenon among the worldwide saltwater angling community. But ocean anglers often encounter an array of circumstances as tides ebb and flow, and currents change along with water depths. You could be out of luck if you don’t have the right tools in your tackle box.

Fortunately, Sea Facon offers an array of slow-pitch jigs, each designed for different fishing conditions and species. Fast-action lures work well in fast, shallow, to moderate currents. Still, when you drift off the edge or intentionally move into deeper water or the current slows, you need a bigger jig that will still produce maximum action with minimum force and input from the angler. The Super Drain jig has a double drain structure to create an irregular movement that imitates a wounded and confused baitfish in deep water. Even in the absence of current, a perfect enticement for deepwater denizens like tilefish and amberjack.

Furthermore, the Super Drain comes in a range of sizes (130g, 200g, 300g, 400g), so you can switch up depending on what’s around or what you’re targeting. Each is also available in an array of enticing colors – including BGL Glow Pink, LTGGL Blue Pink, LTGGL Pink, LTGGL Silver and Sardine – so you can better match the baitfish that are sometimes focused on by finicky predators.

Hook eyes are part of the same one-piece wireframe to ensure superior strength and lure integrity and are designed to accommodate Gamakatsu® assist hooks. The rugged hand-painted finish will stand up to repeated attacks from the toothiest predators.

To ensure you can fine-tune your presentation to get the best performance from your jigs, Sea Falcon has developed a specification chart for each jig indicating the correct fall speed, weight balance, pause time, current, pulling resistance and slide width. The chart also maps them out on an easy-to-understand chart on their website: www.seafalconusa.com

SSG Amanda Elsenboss Becomes First Woman Ever to Win the National President’s Rifle Match

CAMP PERRY, Ohio – SSG Amanda Elsenboss, 33, of the Army National Guard, has made history – marking the first overall win by a female in the President’s Rifle Match, an event that’s been in existence since 1894.

Fired on Aug. 1 as part of the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) 2022 National Rifle Matches at Camp Perry, the President’s Rifle Match is one of the most popular and esteemed events of the year in the United States. The top 100 scoring competitors are dubbed the praiseworthy President’s Hundred, with the overall title regarded as an enormously honorable feat.

“This has been a longtime coming – everybody thinks of the President’s Hundred Match,” Elsenboss said, looking back on her own career.

SSG Elsenboss was featured on the cover of On The Mark as a junior with her teammate after they won the Whistler Boy Team Match.

She’s been a recognizable force on the firing line for years and, incidentally, a champion for female athletes. Having started in marksmanship at 13, Elsenboss had already made history in her career, as a junior, when she and Connecticut Palmer teammate Julie Coggshall became the first all-female winners of the Whistler Boy Junior Highpower Rifle Trophy at the 2006 National Matches.

She went on to join the Army in 2009 where she was assigned to the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU). There, she collected several remarkable titles, including national wins in service and long range rifle. At the 2021 National Matches, she set a new national record score and was the overall individual competitor of the National Trophy Team (NTT) event – netting a near unbeatable score of 500-34X.

Versatile Revolution Trolling Motors Unveiled at ICAST 2022

Anglers Leverage Unmatched Flexibility to Catch More Fish

The annual ICAST trade show provides a unique opportunity for innovative new products to launch into the fishing and marine marketplace. Revolution Trolling Motors from Pro Controll – which leverage a uniquely flexible design to give anglers the freedom to fish how they want – were one of this year’s most widely anticipated new releases, capturing the attention of media, distributors, and retailers alike.

“There is no better place than ICAST to launch and show off new products for a sportfishing manufacturer,” noted Mike Rhodes – President of RM Industries, the parent company of Pro Controll, “and we were excited to introduce the industry to our versatile Revolution trolling motors and thoughtfully-designed accessories.”

Revolution trolling motors are uniquely engineered to tackle two very different tasks: to push the boat from the stern to get anglers to the hot spots quickly, and then to provide precision boat positioning from the bow when it’s time to cast and catch. A single motor that can quickly and easily move from the stern to the bow and back again never existed before, so Pro Controll invented the Revolution: the only motors on the market to give anglers the freedom to fish how they want, when they want, at a price they can afford.

Each Revolution trolling motor features an exclusive mounting bracket that securely attaches to the gunwales of most Jon and utility boats at nearly any position – the transom, the bow, or even along the sides – making it easy for anglers to move the motor to wherever it’s needed at any given time. The control head of hand-controlled Revolution trolling motors easily rotates by 180 degrees, allowing the extendable tiller handle to be positioned perfectly relative to the propeller, whether pushing from the transom or positioning from the bow. In addition, each Revolution trolling motor is compatible with Pro Controll’s available Trolling Motor Battery Harness that allows anglers to quickly and easily move the motor around the boat while leaving heavy 12-volt batteries in one place. This is true fishing freedom made accessible to all anglers, provided only by Pro Controll’s Revolution trolling motors.

Keep Your Knives Sharp at Hunting Camp

Selecting a sharpening system for a hunting camp can be a tricky business. There are many choices available for keeping your steel keen, and even more knife manufacturers and blade style options.

What is a hunting knife exactly? After the hunt, a hunting knife prepares the game for food. This includes but is not limited to skinning and boning. Some hunting knives may have a blade with both a curved portion for skinning and a straight portion for cutting slices of meat. You’ll also find that some blades incorporate a Gut Hook.

A whetstone (water stone) is a rectangular stone with a gritty surface used to sharpen knives and other metal tools. Whetstones can be natural or synthetic. Natural whetstones can have a slower process than synthetic but produce a fantastic cutting edge without removing much steel. A whetstone requires a certain skill level to use successfully, can be heavy, bulky, and is one-dimensional at the end of the day.

A quick and convenient alternative to packing whetstones is the Warthog V-Sharp XE (Xtreme Edge) which features 4 Snap-in Angle Adjustments (17°, 20°, 25°, 30°) weighing in at 8 ounces of durable ABS plastic; the V-Sharp XE is waterproof. Skinning, fillet, and kitchen knives use 17°- 20° angles, making the V-Sharp XE the obvious choice. It comes standard with 325 Grit Natural Diamond Rods (Finishing Steels included) and 600/1000 Grit (optional). Simply drawing the blade in a slicing motion entirely through and out of the sharpener, keeping the blade flat against the Blade Guide. This motion gives a consistent angle from the heel to the tip, regardless of the blade materials or brands. The V-Sharp XE sharpens the blade on both sides simultaneously, perfect for most other flat-blade knives. It’s ideal for hunting camps and base camps!

Gut Hook File- Gut Hook knives feature sharp, semi-circle “hooks” behind the knife’s tip. The gut hook serves more than one purpose. For hunters and anglers, it helps open up the gut cavity of a kill by first making a small incision on the underside. Then, the gut hook is put into the small opening and pulled down like a zipper. This makes it easier and potentially faster to field dress game and dramatically reduces the chance of puncturing an internal organ. A gut hook is a utility tool for slicing cordage/rope on the utility side. A significant drawback to a gut hook is how difficult it can be to sharpen. Still, many hunters consider the gut hook feature a must-have when field dressing game. The Warthog Gut Hook File features a 600 Grit Diamond Rod, a blue composition handle with an oversized lanyard hole, measuring 7 1/4″ overall, and a 3 7/8″ Diamond Rod ideal for gut hook blades and large serrations.

CZ Varmint Precision Trainer Gets a Boost in Accuracy

For anyone looking to get serious about rimfire competition shooting without the costs of a full-on custom rifle, a new day has dawned. CZ-USA has released its match-grade MTR chamber and the extremely tight tolerances that come with it in one of the gunmaker’s most popular 22 LR bolt guns—the 457 Varmint Precision Trainer (VPT).

The MTR chamber has already proven itself in its namesake, CZ 457 Varmint MTR rifle, and has garnered an excellent reputation for accuracy. The MTR variant of the VPT allows shooters to buy an affordable, match-chambered rifle that’s ready to compete right out of the box. This eliminates the perceived need to upgrade any major components, putting this rifle a step above the competition.

The Precision Trainer series was designed to provide the same look and feel as a full-size tactical rifle while allowing for more economical training. Though the golden days of cheap and plentiful 22 LR ammo may be behind us, the Precision Trainer has become more popular than we ever could have imagined.

The 457 VPT MTR merges the best of both models with the Manners carbon-fiber composite stock and the MTR chamber. This model utilizes a cold hammer-forged and lapped 16.2-inch barrel for superior accuracy. It is also threaded to allow easy installation of a suppressor or muzzle device.

New for 2022 the Manners carbon fiber stock now features an adjustable cheekpiece. The forend is recessed, drilled, and threaded for use with an Arca Rail. It still comes with the basic features that have set the 457 family of rifles apart; a fully adjustable trigger, a 5-round detachable magazine, and integrated 11mm dovetails for scope installation with an MSRP of $1,635.00.

Hunting-Ready Pickups Make the Outing Even Better

A pickup truck is an ideal vehicle for virtually any type of hunting trip. Whether you are heading out in a duck boat, going to your traditional deer camp, or going on a guided elk hunt, a pickup that can handle some light off-roading is an ideal form of hunting transportation.

You could have anything from a light pickup with a four-cylinder motor to a three-quarter ton or heavy-duty model with a beefy V8 and make it into the perfect hunting-ready pickup. But it all starts with what your hunting requires from your pickup.

Small Pickups Can Go Many Places

If you seldom go out with just one hunting buddy, a light pickup truck likely could suit your needs. A trip out with three or more likely would require a crew cab or an extended cabin with additional seating in the rear. A light pickup might be overmatched when you factor in your gear, supplies, and room for any game that you might bag along with an extended cabin.

You can find quality light-duty pickups in current production from Ford, Chevy, GMC, and many foreign truck makers. They can deliver good power and are not too big to negotiate tight mountain or desert turns. Small pickups also generally get better fuel economy than full-size pickups, and many have 4X4 drivetrains.

A good small pickup with four-wheel drive and a decent towing capacity and load rating could cover all of your hunting needs.

If your friend is an adventurer and you are confused about what to gift, go through the article to get the best gift ideas and pick the one to put a smile on his face.

1.                  Adult Electric Bikes

Cycling has long been a good way to travel independently, enjoy the fresh air, and keep fit while saving money on transportation expenditures. But cycling can be exhausting for many cyclists after 20 to 30 miles. Electric bicycles offer a solution to this issue.

Due to the way adult electric bikes are made, they are safer than standard bicycles. They replace the usual pedaling with an in-line electric motor powered by a battery. It makes them extremely safe to ride on the highway and eventually offers you even more control. It can be a great companion for your friend who loves to go outdoors every now and then.

2.                  Headlamp

We all have flashlights on our cellphones, but outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers need hands-free devices. A USB headlamp makes a wonderful gift for nature enthusiasts.
