Escort Shotgun’s Hard-Hitting SDX

The Escort SD-X is part of Hatsan’s Versatile Tactical Shotgun series. Available in either 12 ga or .410 cal, this modern sporting shotgun is offered in all black or FDE Cerakote. A new gas piston design is mounted around the barrel itself, eliminating the secondary tube that is typically mounted below the barrel of a semi-automatic shotgun. This reduces the weight and bulk of the gun while minimizing felt recoil and muzzle rise. The synthetic polymer lower receiver features an alloy magazine well that ensures a smooth, durable product designed to last. Hatsan’s patented ThermoDefend forend absorbs and dissipates heat from the barrel while offering a comfortable, controlled grip on the weapon.

An active buffer tube absorbs recoil and sports a removable buttstock with elevation-adjustable cheek rest. The soft rubber ergonomic pistol grip is also removable and can be replaced with a wide variety of already available aftermarket options. The cocking bolt is reversible to suit a wide variety of shooter preferences. A carry-handle rear sight and fixed front sight come equipped on each gun, but the included flip-up sights can be installed for use with mounted optics. The forend also features 4 Picatinny rail locations to accommodate multiple accessory mounting options.

The 12-gauge models feature an 18″ barrel with removable chokes, including an extended cylinder bore choke brake that helps tame recoil with heavy shot or slugs. Standard Full and Improved Cylinder chokes are also included, with other options available from HatsanUSA. Each gun ships with two 5-round magazines, and a 2-round magazine that can be stored in the buttstock. The gun is chambered to accept both 2 ¾” and 3″ shells and will cycle them interchangeably with no external adjustments required by the shooter.

The .410 models feature a 20″ barrel with an integrated choke suitable for both shot and slugs. Offering the same recoil-absorbing characteristics as the larger caliber models, this shotgun is extremely smooth. Also shipping with two 5-round magazines, this gun features a spare 3-round magazine stored in the buttstock. The gas piston operates in the same manner, cycling both standard and magnum loads reliably.

As with all Escort shotguns, the barrels are proof tested at the factory to ensure quality and durability. The hard chrome and/or Cerakote coatings are built to withstand the harshest conditions and look good while doing it. HatsanUSA offers a 5-year limited warranty with all Escort firearms.

Big Horn Armory (BHA) Teams Up Again with the Wyoming Wildlife Federation (WWF) for Pay it Forward Campaign in November

From Nov. 1 – 30, 2021, five percent of all net proceeds of purchases made from BHA’s website will be donated to the WWF’s Hunters for the Hungry Program to help feed food-insecure families during this holiday season.

Big Horn Armory (BHA), makers of big-bore firearms, is pleased to announce it has partnered with the Wyoming Wildlife Federation (WWF) for the second year in a row for the Pay it Forward campaign to help support WWF’s Hunters for the Hungry Program (H4H). From Nov. 1 – 30, 2021, five percent of all net proceeds from any sale made from the BHA website will be donated to WWF’s H4H program. This donation will help to offset the costs of processing donated game meat, which will then be distributed to local food banks, pantries, and other food services within Wyoming.

“Last year we were able to donate $3,000 that was used to process meals for donation to food-insecure families within Wyoming, and this year our goal is higher. We are excited to work with the WWF’s Hunters for the Hungry Program again to help ensure that even more Wyoming residents will get healthy meals,” commented Greg Buchel, president of Big Horn Armory.

WWF’s H4H Program began in the fall of 2018. It has grown from supporting two to four counties in 2020. The counties include Sheridan, Johnson, Teton, and Fremont and H4H is looking to deepen the hunter donations to those incredible partnering processors in the coming years. During the last three years, over 4,700 meals have been donated through the program to food-insecure families in these counties and the Wind River Reservation.

“This is the second year we have partnered with Big Horn Armory to help bring healthy wild game to families in need. It is great to see a Wyoming company supporting this crucial program and those in need,” commented Dwayne Meadows, executive director of WWF.

CMC Triggers Announce it is Enhancing its Business Model to Better Serve Distribution and Customers

CMC Triggers made significant changes to staffing and sales to serve customers faster, smarter, and better.

CMC Triggers Corp., a Texas-based, family-owned and operated company designing and producing quality aftermarket gun parts and accessories, is revamping areas of the business to become a more agile and proficient supplier of their products to retailers, distributors, and end-users.

During the pandemic, shoppers across the board relied more on the online shopping experience for everything from food products to firearms accessories. CMC Triggers President, Jack Biegel, quickly identified his customers’ changing purchasing habits, and responded with meaningful changes within the corporate structure.

CMC Triggers reduced its internal sales staff and is in the process of streamlining online ordering for retailers. As part of their new corporate strategy, CMC Triggers ensures all customers, including retailers and distributors, that the same high-quality aftermarket gun parts will continue to be available through a faster, better, and smarter system. CMC Triggers’ outstanding customer service will also continue to surpass customer expectations.

“In our highly competitive market, it is important for a company to respond aggressively, without sacrificing the quality of product and customer service,” Biegel stated. “We want to eliminate layers within our business to become nimbler and give our customers the best American-made products and service in a streamlined approach. There is one thing, though, that CMC Triggers will not sacrifice, and that is the amount of research and development, testing, and quality control that goes into each product designed at our facility. When we announce a new model or product, our customers can rest assured it meets our rigorous standard and can stand up in any environment from the range to the battlefield.”

Participate in Deer Exchange to donate or receive venison

LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraskans who want to donate or receive harvested deer can participate in the Deer Exchange.

This program is designed to accommodate the additional harvest of deer. It brings together hunters who have a surplus of deer with recipients willing to accept the deer meat.

The Deer Exchange, which is available annually from Sept. 1 through March 1, allows hunters and potential venison recipients to join a database and search for other participating parties in their area. Parties will work out the details of the transfer. While the venison cannot be sold, recipients may pay for the processing or butchering of the meat. Donors and recipients can register online for free.

Recipients will have the choice of accepting whole field dressed deer, skinned and boned deer, wrapped and frozen deer or processed meat. Donors are responsible for properly field dressing and checking deer at a check station before transfer.

When transferring game animals, the hunter must provide the following information on a transfer tag: name, phone number, permit number or seal number, estimated weight of meat (in pounds), species of animal, date taken, signature of donor and name of recipient. A transfer tag is available on page 36 of the 2021 Big Game Guide. Go to OutdoorNebraska.gov/guides.

Follow these tips in park areas during hunting season

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission reminds hunters and parkgoers of safety tips as limited managed hunting begins Nov. 1 in some state park areas.

For more than 15 years, limited managed hunting has been offered at state park and state historical parks as part of wildlife management for healthy and sustainable wildlife populations.

Standard hunting regulations apply, and parks with managed hunting have several safety requirements in place, including distancing requirements from campgrounds, parking lots and other areas, hunter check-ins and signs posted at designated hunting areas.

Park guests are encouraged to use the following safety guidelines:

Know hunting season dates. Applicable hunting dates, species allowed and methods of take are specific to designated park areas.Know which areas allow hunting. Only limited state park areas and state historical parks allow hunting at specific times. In 2021, they include: Niobrara SP, Indian Cave SP, Platte River SP, Chadron SP, Ponca SP, Eugene T. Mahoney SP, Fort Atkinson SHP, Ash Hollow SHP, and Rock Creek Station SHP.State recreation areas and wildlife management areas often are open to hunting for the full season but are subject to their own restrictions. Learn more at OutdoorNebraska.org/StateParkHunting.Pay attention to signage. Parks and wildlife management areas post signs indicating any additional safety measures parkgoers should be aware of.Wear bright clothing. While hunter orange is best for visibility, any bright color will stand out. Avoid muted or earthy tones.Stay on designated trails. Hunters typically avoid well-worn paths; sticking to trails increases one’s visibility.Use extra caution at dawn or dusk. Deer are most active during these times, and low light can make it more difficult for hunters to make out colors or shapes.Make yourself known. If you hear shooting, use your voice to let hunters know you are in the area. Once he or she is aware of you, be courteous and don’t make additional unnecessary noise that disturbs wildlife.

Hunters should be sure to follow the same safety guidelines recommended for any hunting season, such as following all firearm safety rules, including being sure of one’s target and what is beyond it. Find additional recommendations at  OutdoorNebraska.org/HuntSafe.

Breast Cancer Awareness: CMP’s Jackie Slosnerick Tells Her Story

As many know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – a very important time to remember those who are battling or have been lost to the disease. It’s also a time to remind everyone of the importance of regular screenings. Early detection can save lives – just as it did for the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s very own Jackie Slosnerick.

“I do have to say that compared to others, I got off easy,” Jackie confessed.

Those who know Jackie know that she is prepared for anything. Everywhere she goes, she carries what she considers a bag of “essentials” – basically covering any possible thing someone might need – like, ever. Super glue, a thumb drive, a sewing kit, a soldering iron, a barrel of monkeys (no, seriously…) – if you need it, Jackie probably has it.

Jackie is a regular in the air gun range as both Range Officer and competitor.

For her, it’s better to stay ahead of the problem, no matter what may come her way. She follows that same philosophy when it comes to her health, remaining vigilant to a genetic trend that she knew would one day find her.

“Due to my family history, my attitude has been not a matter of ‘if’ I would get cancer, but ‘when,’” she said.

Florida Sportsman Leads Effort to Restore Mahi Fishery

Florida Sportsman magazine publisher Blair Wickstrom succinctly sums up the conservation message his magazine and readers are espousing: “We demand that the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council institute new conservation measures for dolphin (mahi) NOW.”

Wickstrom and Florida Sportsman magazine are spearheading an awareness campaign that includes a petition, an op-ed column  and another story in upcoming issues, as well as online features and a social media campaign supporting conservation efforts to aid one of Florida’s most popular recreational fish. Wickstrom goes on to report the issues facing mahi are widely recognized among many staff, Advisory Panel members and Council members within the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council, yet the only change on the horizon for dolphin is reducing the boat limit from 60 to 54. A reduction of six fish.

“It’s time for action,” Wickstrom exclaims. “We, the recreational angler, need to be heard if we want to – expect to – catch a dolphin [mahi] on future offshore trips.”

Anglers are advocating and demanding a cut back in vessel limits immediately. They’re also asking the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council, and the state of Florida, to reduce the number of fish they’re allowed to catch. Currently, commercial fishing boats are allowed unlimited quantities.

For nearly 20 years, efforts by recreational anglers, and even the Council have tried, unsuccessfully, to put daily commercial trip limits in place. In 2004, the Council passed a 3,000-pound trip limit, only to have the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) throw out the limit based on the assertion that dolphins were only a bycatch. The Council tried again in 2016 and 2020 to no avail.

HEVI-Shot Introduces New HEVI-Hammer Bismuth-Steel Upland Loads

HEVI-Shot is proud to announce new HEVI-Hammer Upland loads. New for 2021, HEVI-Shot is offering 12- and 20- gauge options in shot size No. 5, or 7 shot to cover all the needs of hunters targeting large and medium upland game. HEVI-Hammer loads are manufactured using 15-percent high density bismuth (9.64 g/cc) and 85-percent precision steel. That small but mighty leading layer of bismuth over steel delivers nearly 50-percent more down range energy than pellets consisting of all steel at 40 yards.

“We know HEVI-Hammer Upland will help hunters achieve more success in the field,” said Scott Turner, HEVI-Shot’s Product Line Manager. “Upland game is such a beloved and traditional sport. The camaraderie of the hunting with others, watching sporting dogs do what they do best, and to enjoy hiking around, not having to sit in silence are all things upland hunters love about their sport. And we at HEVI-Shot love it too.”

Because HEVI-Hammer pellets feature a layer of 9.6 g/cc Bismuth, hunters can generally shoot one shot size smaller than steel for the same lethality, but with a much higher pellet count for increased probability of contact. New HEVI-Hammer loads are superior nontoxic shotshells for areas where lead is prohibited or for the environmentally conscious hunter. The bismuth-enhanced steel loads provided hunters with an option that had more velocity and more power than just standard steel shot yet is the same size as steel respectively.

“At HEVI-Shot, density is the secret sauce. We have always been about innovation and density, both of which lead to tighter patterns, higher speeds, and more downrange devastation,” said Turner. “Our customers spoke up and we listened. They wanted a highly effective product that was non-toxic to use in areas that restrict the use of lead. We are proud to now introduce our HEVI-Hammer Upland to our product lineup.”

HEVI-Hammer Upland is available in two 3-inch, 12-gauge options with charge weights of 1-3/8 ounces (shot size No. 3) or 1-1/8 ounces (shot size No. 5) with velocity of 1,350 feet-per-second. Plus, two 20-gauge options with charge weights of 1 ounce (shot size No. 3) or 7/8 ounce (shot size No. 5) with velocity of 1,325 feet-per-second.

The New CZ SP-01 Competition Red & Blue Pistols – Stunning Looks, Legendary Performance

The new CZ SP-01 Competition Red & Blue Pistols builds on its proven lineage, adding match-ready upgrades and race-gun features competition shooters will be excited about. This new CZ-USA high-performance pistol excels on the range and at home.

The new competition model inherits its build quality from its parent model, the SP-01, so the fit and finish of the steel frame and slide are impeccable. The pistol includes a competition hammer giving it an exceptionally crisp, light trigger pull. Thanks to the lightened hammer spring, the pistol feels lively and remarkably responsive in the hand. Additionally, the SP-01 Competition Red & Blue uses a lighter recoil spring for running target loads.

The new SP-01 Competition Red & Blue pistols feature a 4.6-inch cold hammer-forged barrel for enhanced accuracy and performance. Inside, a steel guide rod adds shot-after-shot reliability and performance. On top of the slide, a fiber optic front sight and serrated rear sight provide precise aiming in a wide variety of lighting conditions. Milled grooves on the forward and rear of the slide enhance the shooter’s grip while racking.

Vibrant custom aluminum grips accentuate the pistol’s appearance, making it a real head-turner on the range. Available in metallic red- or blue, adding a sporty look to the pistol’s classic design while checkering improves its control during the heat of the match. At the same time, matching +4 mag bases add extra ammo capacity to the SP-01 Competition Red & Blue. A total ammo capacity of 21+1 rounds equals fewer reloads and faster stage times.

Both left- and right-hand shooters love the SP-01’s ergonomic design. The grips fit equally well in either hand, and the pistol’s ambidextrous safety is comfortably positioned at the rear of the frame directly above the grip. An under-barrel rail accepts an array of accessories from lights to lasers, all of which enhance the pistol’s utility and give it a one-of-a-kind look.

SalmonState: After court ruling, it’s even more clear EPA must stop Pebble Mine now

ANCHORAGE—Today, a U.S. District Court ruling paves the way for the Environmental Protection Agency to complete its Clean Water Act process aimed at protecting Bristol Bay from the massive, open pit Pebble Mine and associated industrial development. In essence, the court has made clear that the EPA has the ability to issue 404(c) protections under the Clean Water Act. For the past two decades, Tribes, fishermen, Alaskans and Americans across the country have been fighting the threat of the proposed Pebble Mine: a massive open pit gold, copper and molybdenum mine proposed for Bristol Bay’s headwaters.

“The specter of a massive open-pit mine and waste dump has been looming over the biggest, wildest, most productive sockeye salmon run on the planet for long enough. Pebble threatens livelihoods. It threatens salmon. And it threatens people,” said SalmonState Executive Director Tim Bristol. “Now that the courts have put the ball back in the EPA’s court, it’s up to the EPA to listen to its scientists and to Alaskans, to finish the job, and to end the threat of the proposed Pebble Mine before the salmon return.”

SalmonState works to keep Alaska a place wild salmon and the people who depend on them thrive.

Trout Unlimited is victorious in lawsuit to reinstate proposed protections for headwaters of Bristol Bay

Court vacates the 2019 decision to withdraw the Bristol Bay 404(c) Proposed Determination

ANCHORAGE, Alaska—Today, the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska vacated the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) 2019 decision to withdraw the Bristol Bay 404(c) Proposed Determination, reinstating important proposed protections for the headwaters of Bristol Bay. These proposed protections would limit the amount of mine waste that could be released into streams, rivers and wetlands at the headwaters of Bristol Bay. This victory concludes a two-year-long lawsuit by Trout Unlimited (TU) and comes in the wake of a recent ruling in favor of TU by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

“Today’s decision gets us back on track to finalizing protections for Bristol Bay’s headwaters and its world-class fisheries,” said Austin Williams, Alaska legal and policy director for Trout Unlimited. “As the science has shown time and time again, large-scale mining in the Bristol Bay headwaters would be catastrophic to the region’s fisheries, its economy, and its vibrant cultures. We look forward to working with the EPA to finalize these protections that are so critical to so many people.”

“Today’s court decision is fantastic news for the families, businesses and fisheries of southwest Alaska.  Stopping massive amounts of mine waste from being stored in Bristol Bay’s headwater rivers is common sense—a no brainer—we are thrilled by today’s court ruling. It’s a solid next step to putting the Pebble Mine debacle behind us for good.” said Nanci Morris Lyon, King Salmon resident and owner of Bear Trail Lodge.

In 2019, the EPA under the previous administration sought to withdraw the 2014 Proposed Determination for Bristol Bay—a sudden decision based on politics that ignored the robust scientific record demonstrating the potential for unacceptable adverse effects. Trout Unlimited sued, challenging the EPA’s decision as arbitrary and capricious and contrary to the Clean Water Act’s governing standard. In July, 2021, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of TU, finding that the EPA could withdraw a proposed determination only if the discharge of materials would be unlikely to have an “unacceptable adverse effect.” Today’s decision vacates the 2019 withdrawal and reinstates the 2014 Proposed Determination.  TU looks forward to vigorous engagement in the 404(c) process to ensure that strong and lasting protections are established for Bristol Bay.

Check boats, lifts, and docks for invasive aquatic hitchhikers as weather cools

LINCOLN, Neb. –Nebraskans are urged to check boats, boat lifts and docks for invasive species when removing them from water bodies for the winter.

Aquatic hitchhikers like zebra mussels can live up to two weeks out of water, and several lakes across the Midwest are first noticed to be infested by people removing boats, lifts and docks for the winter.

Young zebra mussels – or veligers – are invisible to the naked eye and can be spread through drops of water left undrained. All boat lifts and docks should remain out of the water and dried for 21 days before placing them into another water body.

A zebra mussel is a highly invasive aquatic species that looks like a D-shaped clam, with alternating light and dark bands. Most zebra mussels are less than an inch long. They form dense colonies and filter large quantities of plankton from water, decreasing the food supply for native species. In addition, these mussels pollute swimming areas with sharp shells and clog water intake pipes.

The Missouri River has an existing zebra mussel population along its entire length downstream of Gavins Point Dam. Lewis and Clark Lake, Lake Yankton and the Offutt Base Lake are the only other confirmed Nebraska waters that have established zebra mussel populations.

AT host, Justin Dugan leaves no stone unturned as he conducts a full walk around and review, including a dyno and drive test of the new rig.The video aims to help viewers with honest feedback on a truck pack age that claims to do it all.

Justin begins his review at the front end of the truck, discussing its recent refresh, the traditional super duty badging, and unique grille. Next, he moves onto the side, underside, and engine offering his thoughts on what Ford got right and what they did not. The Tremor package kicks in a high-capacity tow package allowing it to pull about 15,000 pounds with the bumper, and 18,000+ pounds when using the fifth-wheel or goose neck hitch. Justin runs through the result of the dyno then jumps in the truck for a chat about the interior and ride quality.“There’s no denying that Ford’s diesel F-250 with the Tremor package is still going to be a work truck first, off-road toy second…” says Justin
