The U.S. Concealed Carry Association Hosts Online Discussion with Congresswoman Claudia Tenney on Recent U.S. Supreme Court Hearing, Preserving the Right to Self-Defense

West Bend, WI – U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) President and Founder Tim Schmidt hosted an online broadcast with U.S. Representative Claudia Tenney (NY-22) around the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen case that was recently heard by the U.S. Supreme Court.  This case is challenging an antiquated and unconstitutional New York state law that requires residents to demonstrate “proper cause” in order to receive concealed carry licenses.

Earlier this year, the USCCA along with several other leading Second Amendment organizations filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court in this case arguing that the right to carry outside one’s home goes to the heart of the right to “keep and bear arms” protected by the Second Amendment.

Today, at least seven other states have similar laws to the one being challenged in New York which prevent responsible Americans from protecting themselves.  As a result “there are millions of Americans right now who would love to be able to exercise their right to bear arms in self-defense but can’t because the state they live in refuses to recognize that right at all,” said Schmidt.

Congresswoman Claudia Tenney also led an amicus brief with more than 175 of her U.S. House colleagues defending the right to concealed carry under the Second Amendment. “We have rights at stake right now… The second most important right we have obviously is the right to bear arms.”  The Congresswoman goes on to say that “the fact that we even have a law that would put such restrictions on lawful carry especially outside the home is unbelievable. But thankfully the Supreme Court seems to be moving in a direction to give us all our rights back…”

According to a recent Quinnipiac poll, support for stricter gun laws is at its lowest level since 2005 and the number of voters who support stricter gun laws is down almost 10 points since a poll conducted in April.  Depending on the Supreme Court’s decision, the language used in the final opinion could have long-standing effects on the constitutionality of other state laws.  “The Supreme Court finding this New York law unconstitutional will also help lay the groundwork for our elected officials at the federal level in Washington to see that the antiquated patchwork of concealed carry laws in the US needs to change and that we need solutions like National Concealed Carry Reciprocity,” stated Schmidt.

Available Now – The CZ-USA Shadow 2 Orange Competition Pistol

Turning the Shadow 2 up a notch, CZ-USA released the CZ Shadow 2 Orange pistol, designed and manufactured for the competitive shooter who wants to win.

A variation of CZ-USA’s very popular CZ Shadow 2 pistol, currently in use in USPSA & IPSC Production Division events, in a nod to previous premium CZ-USA products the Shadow 2 Orange features new aluminum grip panels finished in snappy-looking orange. The improvements in this Shadow model go well beyond coloring.

The trigger, hammer, and sear of the CZ Shadow 2 Orange are hand-fitted for exacting precision, shot after shot. The barrel is polished and sports a new bushing to improve accuracy. The trigger is tuned for a smooth, crisp release and offers a short reset.

Also, the CZ Shadow 2 Orange is equipped with a competition hammer and an adjustable aluminum magazine release catch. The magazines have matching orange aluminum basepads and the gun features an extended safety. A set of flat safeties and a flat slide stop can be purchased separately.

Like the original Shadow 2, the CZ Shadow 2 Orange sports aggressive checking on the aluminum grips for a solid hold, even when the shooter’s hands are dirty and sweaty from running stages. The front and backstrap are nicely checkered, too.

TRUE Knives SmartKnife+ Puts Multi-Use in a Small and ‘Smart’ Package

A stand-alone knife is always better than a multi-tool. What about a stand-alone knife that has had some additions? When the primary purpose of a tool is for cutting, and it retains that foundation, adding some extras can carry a user far beyond standard capabilities. It may not entirely be a multi-tool, but it definitely comes in handy.

TRUE Knives releases their SmartKnife+. It’s a small pocket knife that has been augmented to add some additional uses. Whether a user actually employs these additions, doesn’t take away from the original function of being a knife. This knife houses a bottle opener, a .25” bit driver with a Phillips bit included in the magnetic bit storage, three flathead screwdrivers, 6mm-14mm wrenches, wire strippers, a pry bar, a 2” inch ruler, and a 5cm ruler. All of this is housed in the high-grade stainless-steel frame. This has a true multi-tool capability.

The 2.375” partially-serrated blade is 420 stainless steel with a black oxide coating, more than enough for daily tasks. This steel material is easy to sharpen and will offer some serious rust prevention. When folded, the flipper acts as a flathead screwdriver or small prying tool, while the opposite is a bottle opener. On the butt of the knife is a small pry bar and two additional flat head screwdrivers. Just above the pry bar is the .25” bit storage. The .25” bit driver is accessible at the top of the handle when the knife is closed. In the middle of the handle are a series of metric wrenches that can cover most tasks, and, on the sides, a 2” ruler, a 5cm ruler, and a file are featured.

This knife is, at its core, a knife with extra features. TRUE Knives has devoted itself to keeping the main use unadulterated, effectively retaining the full usability of the knife with extra features. This multi-use knife measures 4.375” long, 0.5” wide, and 1.625” tall. Throw it in your pocket and use the tip-down pocket clip for easy access. Anyone can near guarantee that is one right tool for the job.

“Shoot United” — A New Initiative Launching to Attract Newcomers to Enjoy the Shooting Sports

Target shooting is one of the most popular and fastest-growing high school sports in the United States. This is not something a person hears every day, nor is the fact that more than 60 million adults participate in the shooting sports each year, making it one of the most popular recreation activities in the country. Yet there are still millions of individuals (young and old) who have never joined family and friends to participate in the variety of challenging shooting sports.

We are introducing Shoot United — a dynamic initiative designed to promote all that’s wholesome and healthful about the shooting sports. It’s time spent outdoors with family and friends. It’s competition. It’s one of the most fun and safe recreational activities in the country as well as the fastest-growing sport at the high school level.

“More people than ever before participate in target shooting and hunting. These sports are fun and appealing,” said Brett Flaugher, president of Winchester Ammunition. “People need to hear the stories of how these activities have a positive impact on our lives and relationships. That’s what we plan to do — share these stories with an even broader audience and continue to nurture a diverse participation.”

Throughout 2022 and 2023, engaging content will be shared nationwide through mainstream media. Shoot United will also release content through its own digital and social platforms. The content is meant to entertain, inform and foster a healthy and transparent dialogue. In addition, grassroots events will be coordinated throughout the United States for people to join, with the mission to drive awareness and introduce new participants to the sport.

“Shoot United will be inclusive. We want to bring shooting and responsible firearm ownership to as wide of a variety of people as possible from all walks of life. We are committed to echoing these positive messages beyond our core audience and welcoming new people in,” said Flaugher. “Winchester is wholly committed to this initiative, and we have high expectations that it will bring new energy and excitement to the shooting sports.”

Go for Gold with Andro Corp’s AR15/M16 TiN Gold BCG

Back by popular demand, Andro Corp’s gold-polished titanium nitride hard-coated bolt carrier group.

Andro Corp., a Florida-based designer and manufacturer of quality AR platforms, uppers, lowers, and AR parts, announce the popular ACI gold polished titanium nitride hard coat BCG for AR15/M16’s is back in stock.

The gold polish adds more to the ACI BCG than just gun bling; it actually lengthens the life of the TiN nitride BCG by providing additional lubricity while combating friction. ACI’s full auto-profiled AR15/M16 TiN BCG is machined from 8620 alloy, heat-treated, and ultrasonically cleaned. The hard chrome bore is Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coated gold and polished. The PVD coating is a technique by which a solid material is converted into a vapor to coat the subject product. This PVD process condenses the material into a vapor and turns it into a very thin, solid coating covering the piece. The benefits of PVD coating include better resistance to environmental conditions such as corrosion and abrasion and will not wear off or fade out. ACI’s gold-polished BCG is meant to accept the punishment of continuous use in any environment while maintaining optimal performance.

Additionally, the 9310 alloy bolt, machined 4140 Tool steel alloy extractor, 4130 chromoly steel alloy gas key, and 4340 chromoly steel alloy camp pin are all PVD coated and polished for additional lubricity and corrosion resistance.

ACI’s AR15/M16 TiN Gold Polished BCG is HP proof tested without evidence of failure 100 percent by using a high-pressure M197 or SAAMI commercial equivalent. MPI testing occurs after the successful HP proof test, using the ASTM E1444 inspection standard five-turn magnetizing coil.

Best Black Rifles for Hunting

What are the best black rifles for hunting and why it’s hard to pick just one

It’s entirely possible to put together a nearly perfect Black rifle for hunting by finding the right AR upper receiver conversion for your existing gun. What’s a bit more nuanced, however, is finding a gun that can do it all. There is more to the equation for most people than just a single variable. When you want to find the best option for hunting with the AR-15 rifle platform, you need to factor in several variables.

That’s why it isn’t so easy to just name a brand, or a model from a well-known manufacturer, because a lot of what’s best for your hunts is how you need it to perform. What is certain though, is that the AR-15 has the potential to be a fantastic hunting rifle for a large swath of the intermediate and some of the bigger game in North America.

And it has proven results in the field on a lot of different game species already. So, what’s it going to take to get the best black rifle for hunting? That’s what we want to walk you through in this article.

Instead of trying to pick a few models that are particularly well built for the task, let’s discuss the variables, and how you can create or find the right fit for you, by segmenting some of those characteristics and itemizing your own list of “must-haves” to hopefully put you on the right track for finding the perfect hunting long gun in the AR platform.

What’s needed to get a fantastic Black Rifle for hunting?

It comes down to three main points in determining use cases and best fits, and then it moves on to personal preference for makers, brands, accessories, styling, and other features. The three core pillars in selecting the best black rifle for your hunting needs come down to the following:

What to Look for in Waterfowl Hunting Property

It is November and I am smack dab in the middle of the nation’s largest hunting show, The Whitetail Rut. When all the TV shows, webisodes, magazines, and social media are drilling you with pictures of heavy antlered bucks with their nose to the ground, why do I have a hard time pulling my mind out of the marsh?  I know while the “orange army” is posted 20 feet up stuck to the side of a tree, a lot of quality marshes are filling up with feathered friends from the north. Competition is less intense, ice isn’t as much of an obstacle, and fresh birds could pile in at any moment. So, let’s dive into some important tips about finding quality waterfowl hunting.

Tip #1: Location is key to finding quality hunting property

How do you go about locating quality waterfowl properties? Although waterfowl numbers are generally healthy, waterfowl hunting grounds are not as wide spread as the properties that will hold deer. As the old real estate saying goes, location, location, location!  The migration routes, carrying ducks, geese, and other birds like Sandhill Cranes from their summer ranges as far north as the Arctic to the wintering grounds in warmer climates, are broken down into four main flyways: Pacific, Central, Mississippi, and Atlantic. These ancient routes concentrate the millions of migrating species into areas sometime as narrow as just a few miles. As you can expect, if you are not in the path of one of these flyways, you will often be disappointed after your trips to the blind. A quick Google search will reveal migration routes for entire continents and for your specific state.  In Missouri, we are lucky enough to experience birds traveling along both the central and Mississippi flyways as well as going between the two. The Mississippi River funnels birds along the east edge of the state and the Missouri River bring everything from cranes, snow geese, and millions of ducks and geese from the plains across the middle of the state.

Once you have the general travel routes these birds will be traveling, the next step is naturally to find water.  Waterfowl will roost at night in the safety of open water and marshes then head to the agricultural fields to feed in the morning. This is when I pull up my electronic maps like MapRight to help find those major and minor waterways. Turn on the water feature and topographical functions to easily find where those waterways converge and meander in flat areas. If you see a lot of topo lines stacked close together, you know that the water in this areas is going to be moving fairly fast draining from the hillsides.  But if you find areas with wide spacing of the topo lines, that means this land is very flat and there is a good chance that water will create marshes. Another sign of potential wetlands is winding blue lines depicting meandering rivers and creeks. A straight creek is either quickly moving or channelized with minimal options for wetlands to develop. Convoluted waterways mean flat land and a good chance to find hidden ducks holes. When these winding creeks bend so far to cut off part of the river, they create oxbows, which are great places to find birds.

Tip #2: Find a property with basic needs like food and shelter

Once you have a few good areas located, the fun starts by looking at the other needs besides water that waterfowl (and all game animals) need: cover and food. Go back to your maps to look for crop fields adjacent or in close proximity to the potential waterfowl roosting spots. These birds will leave the safety of the marsh to gorge on corn and beans. Easy access to agricultural fields will make any potential wetland more valuable to birds and help hold them longer throughout the season. The same fields will also provide a drier field hunting opportunity. Besides food, ducks and geese can be pretty vulnerable to predators like coyotes, raccoons, hawks, and eagles as well as the cold weather patterns of the fall and winter seasons. A farm pond in the middle of cleanly harvested farm won’t be as attractive as a brushy marsh or flooded timber. The vegetation around these amazing wetland ecosystems hide birds from prey, insulate from cold winds, and also provide food in the way of seeds and aquatic invertebrates.

Tip #3: If you build it, they (the waterfowl) will come

By now, you should have a good idea of what areas are going to have a high potential for holding birds during the fall.  Now the question is, how do you hunt it?  Not all properties are created equal in their hunt-ability. Without getting too deep in the weeds with hunting techniques, an ideal property will have access to all areas of the property and lend itself well to hunting at different times of day and with different wind directions.

2022 Conservation Trailblazer Award: Casey Stemler

DSC has selected Casey Stemler as the winner of the 2022 Conservation Trailblazer Award. This award celebrates the immense contribution of wildlife professionals to the field of game and non-game wildlife conservation, including wildlife and habitat management, applied research and policy.

Stemler will be presented the award, plus a $10,000 contribution in his name toward the conservation project he selects, during the Thursday night banquet at the 40th Annual DSC Convention and Expo to be held January 6-9, 2022.

Stemler has worked for the federal government for 30 years. He began his career with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) as a biologist on a national wildlife refuge in Alaska. He later moved into other field biologist positions and has worked in both regional office and national headquarters in decision-making positions. He has played a vital role in migratory bird conservation, federal conservation policy and landscape conservation. Over the last three years, his work to lead the Department of the Interior’s Big Game Winter Range and Migration Corridors initiative (SO3362) has produced unprecedented collaboration and conservation successes that mark him as a true conservation trailblazer.

Stemler’s selection was supported by nominations from the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, the State of Nevada Department of Wildlife, the Boone and Crockett Club and the Mule Deer Foundation.

“Casey’s career epitomizes a Conservation Trailblazer and what can be accomplished for wildlife and wild places through dedication, collaboration and selfless work,” DSC CEO Corey Mason says. “His numerous roles with USFWS and DOI, work as a Legislative Fellow and time in Washington DC have truly shaped policy and wildlife habitat across North America.”
