Kris Rockwell of Pennsylvania is an entrepreneur in the learning and development industry. He founded Hybrid Learning Systems as well as the Additive Project, an online 3D printing curriculum for underserved communities. In 2016 Kris joined the S. Kent Rockwell Foundation and began to focus on conservation, education, and entrepreneurship through supporting organizations that work in these fields. In 2023 Kris joined Piper, a company that builds STEM computer kits for middle school programs. He also serves on the boards of The Kiski School, For Good PGH, Trout Unlimited Headwaters and as Chairman of the Board for the Minority Outdoor Alliance.

Chuck Sykes is the Director of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries at the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Chuck earned a degree in wildlife biology in 1992 from Auburn University. In 2001, he created “The Management Advantage” television program that aired on the Outdoor Channel for 11 years and is now producing an online video series. He is the current President of the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (AFWA) among numerous other posts and honors in wildlife conservation.

The results are in for the 2023-2024 JROTC Three-Position Postal Air Rifle Championship. The competition was facilitated by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), running from September to December.

The JROTC Postal Championship is a three-position competition where high school sporter and precision air rifle athletes from across the country fire upon official targets at their home ranges and return them to the CMP Headquarters for scoring. Teams and individuals are ranked against one another, with top competitors moving on to the JROTC Service Championships – set to be held in Utah, Alabama and Ohio in February 2024.

A total of 5,875 junior athletes competed in the Postal event. Finishing as the overall sporter competitor in the JROTC Postals was Celeste Guerrero, 17, of Buda, Texas, with a score of 285-14X. Kameron Wells, 18, of Granbury, Texas, was the leading precision individual with a score of 298-25X.

The records department of the Boone and Crockett Club recently received a musk ox entry, and if confirmed by a judges panel, it will be crowned the new world’s record. 

The recent entry was killed by Aron F. Wark on August 1, 2023, near Contwoyto Lake in the Canadian Territory of Nunavut. With a preliminary score of 131 4/8 points, Wark’s musk ox beats the old record of 130 4/8 points taken by Alex Therrien in 2020. 

“I had the best time of my life, even without shooting a musk ox,” Wark says. The 57-year-old is quick to credit his guide, Sam Kapolak, with filling the hunt with good laughs and plenty of exercise. “A lot of people think this is an easy hunt, but it’s not,” notes Warks. “We covered 20 miles in a day, and it’s not flat. The walking sucks. I want to get these hard hunts out of the way before I get old.” 

The Boone and Crockett Club has been measuring North American big game since 1895. As a way to measure conservation efforts, the Club began keeping records in the 1920s and released the first record book in 1932. 

According to Kyle Lehr, the Club’s director of big game records, “Keeping a record of the largest representations of North American big game isn’t a competition between hunters, it’s a tool for hunters and resource managers to help them understand how wildlife management is or isn’t working in a given area.” 

BELLEVUE, WA – The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has reversed an earlier order which put a hold on a lower court ruling that blocked California’s new law prohibiting concealed carry in most public places, handing a significant victory to gun rights groups including the Second Amendment Foundation.

The law had been blocked by U.S. District Court Judge Cormac J. Carney, who declared the statute “repugnant to the Second Amendment, and openly defiant of the Supreme Court.” The case is known as May v. Bonta.

“This is a major win for California gun owners and the Second Amendment,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “It is a definite wake-up call to anti-gun Gov. Gavin Newsom and his Democrat colleagues in the California legislature who pushed through the ‘sensitive places’ law as a way of thumbing their nose at the Supreme Court, as well as the Constitution.”
