New “Agility” Gunstock Shape For Better Fit & Accuracy, from Boyds

MITCHELL, S.D. – Boyds announces the release of their newest gunstock design, the Agility.  The new Agility stock shape is the answer to many shooters’ prayers.  The Agility is a modern version of a traditional gunstock; in other words, the Agility is on steroids.  The Agility gives your gun the performance features you need along with the traditional look and traits you love in a gunstock.

The Agility buttstock incorporates Boyds’ now-famous adjustable butt pad from the very popular At-One stock design, giving this stock the ability to fit anyone and in any shooting situation.  The adjustable butt pad quickly adjusts the length of pull to fit your body perfectly with just the push of a button, from 12 ½ to 14 inches.

The Agility sports a Monte Carlo comb and ambidextrous cheek piece to give you the proper cheek weld.  An optional adjustable comb is available with certain gun models, helping to make the Agility even more optics-friendly.

The Agility is designed with a Hybrid Grip that is more vertical than the traditional gunstock grip, but not as vertical as the professional shooters’ grip.  It’s a perfect blend of performance with traditional to give you a comfortable grip for offhand and prone shooting positions.

The forearm employs a sleek but comfortable semi-beavertail shape that fits your hand really well and gives you a solid, comfortable hold for steady shots.  There are two sling swivels; one on the forearm, the other on the butt stock.

HERO Specialty Coffee – A Heroic Cause for our American Heroes

What is a hero? Merriam-Webster defines a hero as “a person admired for achievements and noble qualities; one who shows great courage.”

There are certainly days when I feel like a hero: as a middle school teacher in a city school, it takes great courage to return day after day to a classroom full of 11 and 12 year old students. And, truly, it doesn’t take much to boost me up, to give me the strength and courage to come back the next day. Simply acknowledging the achievements and qualities of a hero is all that is needed most days.

HERO Beverage Company aims to do just that with their line of specialty coffee. HERO offers several light, medium, and dark roast coffees, each product honoring an American Hero: Schoolhouse Blend, 911 Dispatcher Blend, Hero Shield Blend, Never Forget Blend, and Farmer Organic Blend are a few of the blends aimed at American Heroes who keep our country safe and running.

HERO (Help Everyone Remain Operational) Beverage Company is owned and operated by first responders and serves those who love supporting American Heroes. Our Firefighters, Special Agents, Police, Military Personnel – these are some of the Heroes that HERO works to support. And beyond just slapping an image of a soldier and a the word “Hero” on the packaging, HERO directly support these heroes with every purchase.

So the next time you wish to recognize or support a hero in your life, order some coffee beans, pods, or steeped bags of coffee from HERO Beverage Company. HERO Specialty Coffee: Recognizing everyday American Heroes while supporting American Heroes at the same time.

Grim Reaper: Here To Stay

By Brian Kightlinger

At a young age my Uncle Russ introduced me to archery. Uncle Russ owned a store in our home town and he made a place in the back of his store where my cousin and I could shoot our recurve bows. My cousin and I spent many hours making our targets out of cardboard boxes and shooting them. I loved shooting bows from the very start.

After many years of struggling to get better with my recurve I finally realized I was left eye dominant and needed to start shooting left handed. It was hard to find a left handed bow so I would just shoot a right handed bow, left handed. I continued to do this until my early 20’s when I found a steal of a deal on a left handed Bear compound bow. When I first got that Bear bow I shot fingers and had to practice every day to gain confidence in my ability to shoot at a small target.

By the fall of 1997, I was confident in my ability to consistently shoot at a target under 20 yards. I hunted a few years with that set up but never had the opportunity to harvest a deer. So in 1999, I purchased a left handed Jennings Buckmaster compound bow and a new release. Right away I noticed the difference on how well I could shoot and how much more accurate I was out to 40 yards. With my confidence at a new high I looked forward to the opening of archery season.

Turkey Hunters: Lets Get Ready

Bowhunting Wild Turkeys 2022 | Scouting Deer | Videos |

Wild Turkeys offer a unique hunt that gives you a challenge no other wild game can match.

A wild turkey’s main defenses are its eyesight and their knowledge of the area where they live. So hunting them from the ground with a bow requires you to get really close to them — which begins with finding where they spend their time during the daylight.

Scouting For Gobblers

Researching, planning and pre-hunt scouting are number #1 on your Turkey Hunting To-Do List. Learning what wild turkey gobblers and hens are doing during your State’s Spring Turkey Season is essential, because that’s what helps you find locations where you can position yourself to intercept gobblers.

A bowhunter must find the wild turkeys exact travel routes, and then pick areas that offer concealment, and enough room to draw their bow. That means scouting as much as you can before the season. You want to learn how the wild turkeys in your area move around in your landscape.

Using Game-Cameras can support and supplement your scouting as well as verifying that wild turkeys are in the area. Choose spots with good cover, and plan how you can execute your hunts. Beginning with hunting roost areas in the morning, locating daytime activity areas and lastly finding night time roosts. And always ask yourself how you’ll reach a promising area without spooking turkeys.

REI SOHO WORKERS VOTE OVERWHELMINGLY TO JOIN THE RETAIL, WHOLESALE AND DEPARTMENT STORE UNION

Workers Officially Form the First Union at Any REI Store

(NEW YORK, NY) – Today, the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU), announced that by an overwhelming majority vote of 86 percent, workers at the REI Co-Op in Manhattan, New York have voted to join the RWDSU, making REI SoHo the first unionized REI store in the nation. Despite enduring a union busting campaign that included captive audience meetings, a halt on promotional opportunities, and even a 25-minute union busting podcast, workers have stood together to make REI the inclusive, progressive workplace it claims to be through their union.

“I am proud to be here in this moment with my coworkers at REI SoHo as a part of this new wave of unionization efforts that is sweeping the nation. As members of the RWDSU, we know we will be able to harness our collective strength to advocate for a more equitable, safe, and enriching work environment. A union is necessary for many of us to achieve more stability and security in our lives which could allow for us to explore and play more outside of work! As green vests, we believe ‘a life outdoors is a life well lived’ and in order for that to be viable and accessible to us, we need to be at the bargaining table alongside REI leadership to work out a collective bargaining agreement that works for us. Hence, we’re hopeful that REI meets us in good faith during negotiations for our first contract, while keeping our co-op values in mind and applying them to workers, so we can all demonstrate that we really do go further…together!” said Claire Chang, Member of the REI SoHo Organizing Committee and Retail Sales Specialist-Visual at REI SoHo.

“History was made today! We’re excited to welcome the workers of REI SoHo into the RWDSU, marking the first-ever unionized REI store in the whole country. These workers have vast expertise in their field and have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to serve the outdoor community. They have stuck together through a horrendous union-busting campaign and have come out the other side stronger. The workers of REI SoHo are ready to negotiate a strong contract that will allow them to uphold the co-op’s progressive values while providing the top-notch service REI customers have come to expect. With a seat at the table, workers can make working at REI safe and sustainable for years to come,” said Stuart Appelbaum, President, Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU).

The vote to unionize REI SoHo was conducted by an in-person vote in the REI SoHo breakroom on March 2, 2022, by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). The RWDSU will represent approximately 116 workers at the outdoor sports equipment company in contract negotiations, which will commence this year. The workers in the bargaining unit include all full- and part-time sales specialists, technical specialists, visual presentation specialists, shipping and receiving specialists, certified technicians, operations leads, sales leads, and shipping and receiving leads.

NRA Prevails Over NYAG: Court Rules Association Cannot be Dissolved

FAIRFAX, Va. – The National Rifle Association of America (NRA) scored a major legal victory today, as a New York court struck down attempts by the New York Attorney General to dissolve the 150-year-old organization. Following a two-hour hearing on December 10, 2021, the Hon. Joel M. Cohen of the New York State Supreme Court issued an opinion today that vindicates the NRA’s position: the NYAG’s effort to shut down the Association ran afoul of common sense, New York law, and the First Amendment.

“This is a resounding win for the NRA, its 5 million members, and all who believe in this organization,” says NRA President Charles Cotton. “The message is loud and clear:  the NRA is strong and secure in its mission to protect constitutional freedom.”

The NRA will defend against the surviving claims in the lawsuit – but today’s ruling declares that the NYAG cannot shut down the Association or seize its assets.

“We applaud the court’s recognition that dissolution is neither appropriate nor justified,” says William A. Brewer III, partner at Brewer, Attorneys & Counselors and counsel to the NRA. “We look forward to continuing the defense of the NRA – and proving that it acts in the best interests of its members and the Second Amendment freedoms in which they believe.”

Emphasizing that the NRA is “a prominent advocacy organization that represents the interests of millions of members,” the court said the NYAG failed to meet the “rigorous” standard for state-sponsored dissolution of such a group – and her attempt raised free speech concerns.

ATN Corp. Supports Ukrainian Efforts Against Putin

ATN demonstrates solidarity with the Ukrainian people with generous donations. ATN efforts on the ground in Bulgaria are now moving much-needed shipments of humanitarian and defensive supplies through Ukraine’s border into fighting zones.

ATN, Corp., an industry leader of innovative optics for civilian, law enforcement, and the military, announce it has opened a site on the ATN website for direct donations to help the Ukrainian people receive humanitarian supplies and equipment for their fighting forces against the unjust actions of the Russian tyrant, Putin, and his forces.

Marc Vayn, founder of ATN, was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, and grew up in the United States where he started the optics company in 1995. ATN has offices across the United States, as well as in Odessa and Kiev, Ukraine. Before the outbreak of the war, the ATN team worked tirelessly to move Ukrainian staff members and their families to offices in Bulgaria or a safe place within their home country. Several ATN staff members refused to be moved and have taken up the fight against the Russian aggressor.

“I am an American citizen first, but of Ukrainian blood and spirit,” Vayn said. “It is imperative that as a united front, the democratic peoples of the world push back against this despot, Putin, and all he represents.”

James Munn, co-founder of the American-based ATN, Corp. and CEO added, “As a US Army veteran, I know how critical, time-wise, it is to get the necessary supplies to the front lines in order to repel the enemy. That is why we set up a donation site directly on our page. Your donation happens immediately, goes to the source immediately, and will end up helping Ukrainian forces immediately. Not next week, not next month. Now.”

Best Turkey Mouth Calls

Best Turkey Mouth Calls from Raised Hunting

When it comes to options for the best turkey mouth call on the market it can be easy to become overwhelmed. Manufacturers give hunters dozens and dozens of options with different reed and cut designs to create every different sound and tones one hunter could muster up short of being a live hen. When it comes to finding the best turkey mouth call the toughest part is not finding one, it is finding what is best for you at your skill level. Whether you are just starting or are a veteran of turkey diaphragms, practice creates confidence and is one of those skills that allows you to graduate into better calls as your skills increase.

Primos Hunting, Curved Hooks, Hook Series

The Primos Hunting name is one that is synonymous with success in the turkey woods. The Primos Hunting Hook Series is a fantastic line of calls  featuring a wide range of latex cut designs to produce phenomenal raspy and other authentic hen sounds. The Curved Hooks mouth call is one of the best turkey mouth calls on the market because of the unique crew cut design. It is a triple reed with premium latex at an affordable price. It’s not terribly difficult to control as a triple reed design but gives you all the benefits of the raspy and volume of a triple reed.

Woodhaven Yellow Jacket

Woodhaven Calls Is quickly becoming a common name amongst turkey hunters. The Yellow Jacket is a great turkey mouth call because of the easier to use double reed design. The top reed of the diaphragm features boss hen cuts on each side. These features make the Yellow Jacket one of the best turkey mouth calls. Because of the latex design, this call is excellent for making Kee-Kee and deep, consistent yelp sounds.

H.S. Strut

H.S.Strut has some of the best turkey mouth calls and have been trusted by turkey hunters for the past several decades. One of the best in the line this year is a collaboration between Hunters Specialties, and Drury Outdoors called the Ghost Tongue. By tightening up the reed spacing and leaving a flat tongue instead of a pointed tongue, hunters get more performance out of this new series of mouth calls. The Ghost Tongue is a ghost cut design with 3 reeds measuring  .003 in thickness. 006 that is often standard in turkey mouth calls making the Ghost tongue easier to handle. The Drury line of mouth calls is hand-stretched on precision presses and are extremely affordable.

Quaker Boy

Some of the best turkey mouth calls come from Quaker Boy. Their mouth call line has incredible quality and design. Made in the USA, the quality of latex is unmatched for season-long use.  Screamin’ Green Nasty Old Hen is one mouth call you’ll not want to overlook.  The Screaming Green latex is actually thinner than the traditional white latex at .003 thickness. Thinner latex means it’s easier to get that deep rasp from the triple reed design.

A Tactical Knife with Big Possibilities and a Great Price from True Knives

Introducing a Tactical Knife from True® Knives – a well-rounded knife designed for a plethora of tasks. The Tactical Knife is the quintessential everyday carry tool that fills a multitude of various roles with ease. Tactical carry is not only about self-defense but just easy deployment. Being able to carry and deploy a knife quickly is efficient, no matter if you are defending yourself or trying to open a box. Luckily, True Knives has this covered.

The True Tactical features a 3.25” drop point, partially serrated, 8Cr13MoV stainless steel blade finished in black oxide. The 8Cr13MoV stainless steel is remarkably similar to AUS-8, with a marginally higher carbon composition and a great steel option for a wallet-friendly knife. It is effortless to maintain, resists corrosion well, and is very easy to sharpen.

At the opposing end is a glass breaker sandwiched between a titanium-coated stainless-steel skeletonized frame. A standout feature is the titanium-coated stainless-steel handle. The skeletonized design reduces weight and offers a textured area for increased grip. This grip style also minimizes the potential for various items to get stuck or adhere to the handle. Within the handle is seated the frame lock mechanism and on the outside is a two-position pocket clip mount. There are screw placements for both a tip up and a tip down carry. The tip up placement does not provide a full deep pocket carry but is the best option for an always ready and easy-to-deploy knife with little effort.

This is longer than many other knives in the True Knives lineup and measures at 8” total when open and 4.75” when closed. The thickness is 0.75” and a top to bottom height of 1.375”. For those seeking a tactical EDC knife that can keep with the competition and fits the budget-minded consumer, True Knives Tactical Knife is a pack leader.

NRA Asks Supreme Court to Strike California’s Magazine Ban

Fairfax, Va. – The National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) partnered with the California Rifle & Pistol Association (CRPA) yesterday to petition the Supreme Court to hear a challenge to California’s ban on magazines capable of holding more than ten rounds.

“California’s ban violates the Second Amendment, the Takings Clause, and the fundamental right of self-defense,” said Jason Ouimet, executive director of NRA-ILA. “The reason Americans choose these commonly owned magazines is the same reason law enforcement does – to better defend themselves, their loved ones, and their communities from violent attack.”

The case, Duncan v. Bonta, challenges California Penal Code § 32310, which bans magazines capable of holding more than ten rounds. The NRA filed suit against California in 2017, and won a favorable decision at the district court in 2019. California appealed to the Ninth Circuit, and in August of 2020, a three-judge panel ruled that the statute was unconstitutional. In November of 2021, however, the full Ninth Circuit ignored Supreme Court precedents and upheld the ban. This marked at least the fiftieth time since the landmark NRA-backed DC v. Heller decision that the Ninth Circuit has rejected a Second Amendment challenge.

This case is captioned Duncan v. Bonta. It was previously titled Duncan v. Becerra, but the caption was changed when the Attorney General of California was replaced. This is the second magazine restriction NRA-ILA has brought before the Supreme Court in as many years. Last year, in a similar case, NRA-ILA challenged New Jersey’s magazine statute in a case still pending before the Supreme Court.

“For too long the courts have treated the Second Amendment as a second class right. The Court now has the opportunity to set the record straight and ensure the rights of all law-abiding gun owners will no longer be infringed,” Ouimet concluded.
