W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co. in Bradford, Pennsylvania purchased the Timberline knife brand from The Great American Tool Company. (Announced December 2016).

The TIMBERLINE Fellhoelter “ECS” (1820-Tanto, 1860-Drop Point) features the U.S.E.R.S. (Ultimate Secure Easy Release Sheath System) which holds the knife securely in the sheath until deployed.

Brian Fellhoelter designed the E.C.S. fixed blade and sheath system due to a general lack of functionality in knives for river guides. Inspired by his years as a whitewater rafting guide, Fellhoelter designed the ECS as a knife and sheath system built to withstand rough waters yet quickly deploy in an emergency situation. The mechanism on this knife is designed so that it is positively locked yet requires no thought as to how to deploy it. The simple act of grabbing it releases it from the sheath. Mr. Fellhoelter prefers a knife blade with a point although many knives marketed to guides have a blunt point. His point of view is as most rescues on the river entail cutting through the raft/float, the E.C.S. is specifically designed to slice through the thick Hypalon many boats are made from. The tongue and cheek name E.C.S. is an acronym for Emergency Condiment Spreader because the flat backside makes a nice Peanut Butter spreader, a common use of a guide knife.
