Inside the Summer Issue of BHA’s Backcountry Journal
The newest issue of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers’ magazine is available today
MISSOULA, Mont. – The summer issue of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers’ quarterly magazine, Backcountry Journal, is arriving just in time to inspire summer adventures in the backcountry. Here are some highlights of an issue that pays tribute to our incredible BHA community and the wild places and creatures that unite us.
Fathers and Sons and Swampers: Jonathan Wilkins, founder of Black Duck Revival and a BHA Arkansas chapter board member, joins a father-son duo on a rabbit hunt on the Mississippi River Delta. Along the way he meditates on the significance of family traditions…and learns about the often overlooked Black-houndsmen culture in the South.
A Farewell to Fish: In the spirit of Hemingway, BHA member M. Robbins Church movingly reflects on what was lost with construction of the Snake River dams – and what might be restored with their removal.
10 months, 110 miles: Alaskans know adventure; they also know how to bring their children up in the outdoors. In this story by Rory O’Hanrahan and Barry Whitehill, three BHA members bring a 10-month-old on a 110-mile wilderness float trip, filled with plenty of trials and tribulations…and eventual triumph.
Privatizing Public Elk: BHA Montana chapter board member Thomas Baumeister examines the efforts by wealthy landowners in Montana to dismantle the Public Trust Doctrine and North American Model of Wildlife Conservation – and how Montana BHA is working diligently to make sure that doesn’t happen.
Grow Your Backcountry Skills: BHA member Jack Ballard provides valuable tips on how and why to stay hydrated, and BHA member Raven Aäe teaches us how to be fitter and more durable backcountry hunters in two absorbing instructional columns.
Backcountry Journal is distributed to BHA members, elected officials and land management agencies. It also is available in a digital flipbook edition, available to members on the BHA website. Join BHA today to get your copy.
