Foil Packet Potatoes

Foil packet potatoes are a simple and delicious campfire recipe. Here's a basic recipe to get you started:

Ingredients:

  • Sliced potatoes (2-3 potatoes per packet)
  • Sliced onions (optional)
  • Garlic cloves (optional)
  • Butter or olive oil
  • Seasonings (salt, pepper, paprika, herbs)
  • Aluminum foil

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Foil Packets:
    • Tear off a large piece of aluminum foil (about 18 inches in length) for each packet.
    • Place the sliced potatoes in the center of the foil.
  2. Add Flavor:
    • Add sliced onions and garlic cloves if you like. These will add extra flavor to the potatoes.
    • Drizzle melted butter or olive oil over the potatoes. This will help them cook and become tender.
    • Sprinkle your choice of seasonings, such as salt, pepper, paprika, and herbs, over the potatoes. Customize the seasonings to your taste.
  3. Wrap the Foil Packets:
    • Fold the foil over the potatoes to create a packet.
    • Seal the packet tightly by folding the edges together. Make sure there are no openings for the steam to escape.
  4. Cook Over the Campfire:
    • Place the foil packets directly on the campfire grate, ideally over medium heat or indirect heat if possible.
    • Cook for about 15-20 minutes, flipping the packets occasionally to ensure even cooking. The cooking time may vary depending on the heat of your campfire and the thickness of your potato slices.
  5. Check for Doneness:
    • Carefully open one of the packets and test the potatoes with a fork. They should be tender and easy to pierce when done.
  6. Serve:
    • Carefully open the packets (they will release hot steam) and transfer the cooked potatoes to a plate.
    • Serve hot as a side dish alongside your favorite campfire meal.

These foil packet potatoes are versatile, and you can customize them with various seasonings and add-ins like cheese, bacon, or herbs to suit your taste. They make a great addition to any campfire cookout. Enjoy your outdoor meal!
