CMP Hosts GSMM Rifle, Air Gun Matches in Ohio and Alabama in September

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) stayed busy on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022, as it hosted three special events between its facilities at Camp Perry, Ohio, and Anniston, Ala.

The first was a Garand, Springfield, Vintage and Modern Military (GSMM) rifle match on Camp Perry’s outdoor electronic target line at Petrarca Range. The event was open to adults and juniors – reaching nearly 50 entries throughout the day.

Leading the Garand Match only by x-count was Jeffrey Beierke, 58, of Fort Wayne, Ind., with a score of 265-5X. Doug Staaf, 65, of Wattsburg, Pa., claimed the win in the Springfield Match with 263-3X, as Dean Davenport, 37, of Scio, N.Y., overtook the Vintage Military course with 264-2X. Zachary Coffey, 31, of Manchester, Mich., led the Modern Military event by more than 10 points with 289-5X. The Monthly Air Gun Matches feature 3×20 air rifle and international-style air rifle and air pistol matches for adults and juniors.

Also held the same day was CMP’s latest round of Monthly Matches, fired at each indoor air gun range location in Ohio and Alabama. The event featured three-position air rifle and ISSF (International Shooting Sports Federation) air rifle and air pistol competitions for adult and junior athletes.

SP4 Sagen Maddalena led the ISSF Rifle event in Alabama.

In Anniston, Olympians SP4 Sagen Maddalena, 29, and SSG Sandra Uptagrafft, 51, nabbed wins in the ISSF Air Rifle and Air Pistol events, respectfully. Achieving the overall spot in precision was Riley Dunn, 16, who landed 0.6 points above Katrina Demerle, 17, for the win. In sporter, Brianna Benedetto, 15, led Santiago Camacho, 16, by just 0.4 points to earn first.
