Archery Goes to School

The National Archery in the Schools Program is one of the best school sports.  Unlike football, where you have to be large and nimble, or basketball, where height is a huge advantage, or track, where only the fastest survive, archery is an equal-opportunity sport.  A youngster can be tall or short, thin or not so, fast or wobbly; physical characteristics do not matter.  Most important is the self-discipline to listen to coaches, do homework (practice regularly), and perform under pressure.  Plus, equipment is inexpensive, and practice can be done in a backyard or basement.

Kaila Hess is the Shooting Sports Coordinator who works with the Pennsylvania Game Commission in Harrisburg, PA.  You can contact her at kailhess@pa.gov or visit the national website at NASPSchools.org
