Schachle Adds Two Event Records During 2023 Eastern CMP Games

CAMP BUTNER, N.C. – Keith Schachle, 64, of Jasper, GA, made his mark at the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) Eastern Games, Pistol and Highpower Rifle Matches, held April 28 to May 7, by finding not just one but two new event records through his performances.

Schachle achieved a score of 296-10X in the Modern Military Rifle Match to reach a new record by one x-count in the competition, leading over second place competitor Brian Williams, 49, of Granby, MA, who previously set the record back in 2019. Schachle went on to best Williams again in the Four Gun Rifle Aggregate with a score of 1155-28X while also taking over another of his records by x-count.

Nearly adding another record to his 2023 successes, Schachle claimed the overall win in the Vintage Military Match with a score of 292-6X – one point away from the current event record score, which he set himself at last year’s Eastern Games.

Also demonstrating notable showings was Kyle Kirschenmann, 58, of Tellico Plains, TN, who attained a score of 293-11X to overtake the Springfield Match (just two points shy of the current record), as the Vintage Sniper Match Semi-Auto team Hard Leg #6 (Terrence McCoy, Joseph McDonald) tallied a score of 398-21X (only one point behind the current record).

Pistol events offered in North Carolina include Service EIC matches along with .22, .45 and Center Fire Aggregates.

In pistol, Hiem Trang, 64, of Germantown, MD, fired a score of 354-4X to claim the win in the new Service Revolver EIC event. Likewise, a Mid-Range 3×600 Rifle match was added to the CMP’s Highpower (HP) series, with Thomas Morley, 62, of Washington, PA, reaching the top spot in the Match Rifle division with a score of 590-29X. The Mid-Range event also featured Service Rifle, F-Open, F T/R and AR Tactical categories.

James Fox (right) was the overall winner of the Rifle EIC Match and the Rifle 2400 Aggregate.

Additionally, Emily Gobble, 16, of Lexington, NC, cleared a score of 581-20X in the Rimfire Sporter Rifle T-Class match to lead the field of 45 adult and junior competitors.

The CMP Eastern Games, Pistol and Highpower Rifle Matches welcomes competitors of all experience levels to take part in competition and educational experiences.
