Ledgering Fishing: Bottom Fishing Technique for Catching Fish
- Rigging: The ledgering rig consists of a fishing rod, reel, mainline, weight (ledger or sinker), and hook. The weight is attached at the end of the mainline, followed by a swivel to prevent line twist. A hook or bait clip is attached to the other end of the swivel.
- Bait and Presentation: Ledgering fishing involves using a variety of baits such as worms, maggots, boilies, pellets, or artificial lures. The bait is placed on the hook or bait clip and presented close to the bottom to attract fish feeding near the lake or riverbed.
- Casting and Positioning: Anglers cast their rig into the desired fishing spot, allowing it to sink to the bottom. The line is tightened to eliminate slack and maintain contact with the bait. The fishing rod is placed in a rod rest or held securely while waiting for a bite.
- Patience and Observation: Ledgering fishing requires patience as anglers wait for fish to take the bait. The fishing rod tip is observed for any signs of movement or bites, such as twitches, dips, or sudden pulls.
- Strike and Hooking: When a fish bites, the angler strikes or sets the hook by swiftly raising the rod tip to ensure the hook penetrates the fish's mouth. Timing and a quick response are crucial to increase the chances of successfully hooking the fish.
- Reeling and Landing: Once a fish is hooked, the angler starts reeling in the line while maintaining steady pressure on the fish. Care must be taken to avoid sudden jerks or excessive force that could cause the fish to break free. With patience and skill, the fish is eventually landed and safely brought to shore.
