Hook Youngsters on Fishing by Using the Tieless Fishing Tackle Valley EZ Hook

Spring, a time of renewal, is fast approaching, when Mother Nature gives us longer, warmer days as she slips off the grips of winter. It’s also a time when bass, panfish, and other gamefish species move into the shallows to spawn, making it the perfect time to take youngsters out for their first fishing trips!

Of course, young anglers of all ages want to touch and do, not just be spectators, whatever the task at hand. When fishing, they want to learn how to rig their own tackle, but often find that tying on their own hooks can be frustrating. Not so when using the patented Tieless Fishing Tackle Valley EZ Hook in universal size 6. This ingenious design allows anyone to securely attach this high-quality hook to their 8-10 lb. diameter braided line without the need of tying a complex fishing knot. With it, even young anglers will be rigging their own hooks in no time.

Here’s how it works. Tie a simple knot on the end of your line, loop it one time around the hook, bait the hook as you normally would, then cast it into your favorite spot. That’s it! The Valley hook in size 6 was rigorously tested for two years; it successfully catches bass, bluegill, perch, crappie, northern pike, and catfish in fresh open water and through the ice. The size 6 hook measures approximately .4 inches wide x .98 inches long, has an average tested pull strength of 7 lbs., and works best with 8 to 10lb dia. braided line.

When those young anglers start watching the bobber go down and they’re soon reeling in a feisty bass or panfish on gear they’ve helped rig themselves, they’ll soon be hooked on fishing, and be asking to go fishing time and time again. With Tieless Fishing Tackle EZ Hooks lifelong anglers are created every day. Start one today.

MSRP for a package of 5 hooks is $3.29. They’re available directly at https://thetielesshook.com/, where you can also learn how easy it is to use this simple, yet highly effective, fishing hook.

ONTARIO KNIFE COMPANY® RAT-1 RED KNIFE SELECTED INNOVATIVE KNIFE AT SHOT SHOW

Police1 Puts Latest Version of The Legendary EDC Knife on
List of Top Three of 2023

Ontario Knife Company® (OKC®), the award-winning cutlery maker with more than 130 years of experience designing and creating blades for every need, is proud to announce that the editors of Police1, a gear, news and techniques website for law enforcement, has the latest version of OKC’s legendary RAT-1 folding EDC knives – the RAT-1 Red – on their list of top three knife innovations for SHOT Show 2023. Read full article here.

“The RAT-1 Red is true to the original design, except it comes in S35VN steel and red G-10 scales,” said Lindsey Bertomen, Police Products Editor in the article. “These are both improvements on an already proven design. The RAT-1 Red was designed for EDC, and the simple design is perfect for patrol and even better for fieldcraft. I’m already shopping around to see if I can find one.”

The RAT-1 Red has a 3.5-inch long, 0.115-inch-thick blade made from S35VN steel with a 58-60 HRC hardness-rating that has a full flat-taper grind. As pointed out in the article, the Red has upgraded S35VN steel that is extremely tough and high quality, providing superior resistance to wear and chipping with excellent, long-lasting edge retention. Other features are a closed length of 5 inches, which helps make this such a popular EDC knife, and an open length of 8.5 inches. It is compact enough to slip in your pocket, yet big enough to comfortably complete tasks with ease. The new red, G10 scale handle was inspired by OKC branding. OKC added some history with their 1889 maker’s mark on the clip and the original Randall Adventure Training logo marking on the blade. The red handle and additional marking add a bit of nostalgia to the legendary EDC knife from a company with many decades of history behind it.

Founded in 1889, the Ontario Knife Company® is an award-winning knife, cutlery, and tool manufacturer operating out of Upstate New York for over 125 years. OKC® produces a wide range of tools, including cutlery and kitchenware, hunting and fishing knives, machetes, survival and rescue equipment, science and medical tools, and tactical knives. OKC has a long tradition of building knives and tools for the U.S. military, producing high quality equipment that has seen continuous service since WWII. In addition to being a major supplier to the U.S. Armed Forces, OKC leverages a network of distributors, dealers, and major commercial retailers to sell its products nationwide and internationally to over 35 countries. OKC’s custom manufacturing division Jericho® Tool, advances capabilities including a broad-spectrum of tool and die, and machining operations to provide white label and OEM manufacturing services for consumer and industrial goods. Collectively OKC’s product lines and manufacturing services reach the housewares, sporting goods, tactical, security, law enforcement & first responders and education industries.

The True Cost of RV Towing Service

RVing requires more forethought than a typical trip by car because more components are involved, and you have more to plan for, especially in the case of roadside recovery. Factors like RV size, terrain, distance, type of towing vehicle, and type of towable can each make a mechanical problem more difficult to address and more expensive. That’s especially true in the case of towing.

As RVers, we’re used to self-reliance, and RV ownership means we tackle many problems on our own. But when it comes to getting towed, the best way you prepare for a trip is by being informed:

What is the cost of RV towing? What influences the price of a tow? What are cost-saving services I can invest in?What is the best roadside assistance? What affects the price of towing?

Not only does RVing require more forethought than a typical car trip, but the costs of certain services often come at a heftier price tag, like roadside towing. While the typical towing incident for an automobile averages about $109 total, RV towing by a professional service provider can cost between $135-$150 an hour. And the more complications, the higher the price tag.

Knowing what to expect makes a difference, and if you choose to travel without a roadside service plan, better to know the risk than be surprised by the cost of your particular setup. Here we break down a couple of the factors that could increase the price tag of a roadside breakdown tow.

SUUNTO Compass Review

We stopped by the SUUNTO booth this past month at SHOT SHOW and most folks are super interested in getting to see the amazing GPS and fitness watches from SUUNTO.  Those watches are without question some of the best in the world, but first we had to geek out over the compasses.  As a hunter who likes to get off the grid, one of the most important parts of our kit is an actual map of the area where we are hunting and a proper baseplate compass.  If you spend a little bit of time and learn to use a proper baseplate compass you can get yourself out of any location quickly and easily and to the exact location you are looking to go.

We asked for the opportunity to test the SUUNTO M-3 Baseplate Compass as well as the SUUNTO M-9 sighting compass for your wrist.  One compass for reading maps and one for consistent use on the wrist to keep you moving in the right direction.  Understanding how to use these compasses can keep you alive.

SUUNTO M-3 NH Baseplate Compass

The Suunto M-3 Compass has a declination adjustment for easy and accurate compass readings. It also has a luminous bezel ring for easy and precise navigation in low light conditions, and a balanced magnetic needle for a faster and more precise reading.  Utilizing the compass with a map allows you to orient your way from one location to another quickly and no matter what you throw at this compass it is going to handle it because it waterproof, shockproof and weatherproof.

With a Baseplate compass, you can orient your map by lining up the north arrow on your compass with the north direction on your map. This will help you identify landmarks on the map and understand which direction you are facing and the direction you are going. Knowing the angle between true north and magnetic north (magnetic declination) is also important to ensure that you adjust your compass readings correctly.

The M-3 comes with a comprehensive user manual providing all of the information you need to learn how to use your compass.  Reliable readings, a durable solid construction and a five-year warranty makes this a great choice.

Your Comprehensive Guide to Finding the Right Campground

So you’re looking to go camping, and for good reason considering that 8.3 million people had the same idea last year. Taking in the beauty that our country has to offer and cultivating community on the road are just a few of the many upsides the outdoor lifestyle brings.

But if you’re a first-time camper, knowing where to start can feel a little daunting. Where should you camp? What kind of campground is the best fit for you and your crew? How much should you expect to pay, and what should you expect to bring?

To eliminate any guesswork and to improve your odds of finding a spot you loves, here’s a comprehensive guide to finding the right campground, along with some helpful resources.

Plan your trip

Collect notes and zero in on the right campground. There’s no need to go into your trip blindly, especially when the odds are that there’s been plenty of ink spilled on whatever campground you’re looking into.

Know what experience you’re looking for

Knowing the type of experience you’re looking for is the key to finding the right campground. Do you want something a little more remote and scenic? Do you want to stay at a park that will keep your kids (mostly) occupied? Something more friendly for dogs?  These preferences will help narrow your search. Rank what’s important to help you create a starting point.

Rare Ecosystem Restoration Underway

Hunter-driven grant provides critical funding for pine-barren restoration in NWTF’s Huron-Manistee Focal Landscape.

Pine barrens and pine-oak barrens occur throughout the East and Midwest and are what they sound like, landscapes filled with pine and oak species that are barren for agricultural production. They are characterized by their sandy, acidic soils that hardly retain moisture – terrible for growing most food crops but a haven for wildlife, including wild turkeys, and are one of the rarest ecosystems in Michigan’s Great Lakes Regions.

With their low-growing grassy species, interspersed with mature mast-producing species such as oak, barren ecosystems provide a diversity of habitat for wild turkeys, white-tailed deer and even non-game species like Kirtlands’s warbler, a recently delisted endangered species that relies heavily upon pine barren ecosystems. However, the presence of these rare communities on the landscape is not what it used to be.

“Due to increases in human development, suppression of naturally occurring wildfire and fragmentation of the landscape, we have seen a decline in the abundance and quality of these habitats,” said Ryan Boyer, NWTF district biologist for Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. “We are also losing many of the forested wildlife openings once found within Michigan’s northern forests due to changes with succession tied to a lack of disturbance, as well as an influx of invasive species which out-compete native plants. Ultimately, these factors reduce the quality of these habitat types for many wildlife species.”

While these essential landscapes are increasingly rare, the NWTF is currently working to revitalize oak and pine barren ecosystems back to their former glory throughout Michigan, thanks to a generous $277,000 grant from the MDNR via its Wildlife Habitat Grant Program.

The AR500 rifle is an AR rifle like no other. Chambered in 500 Auto Max, BHA’s groundbreaking AR500 Rifle is the most powerful AR firearm available. Yamaha Fulfills $500,000 Pledge in Outdoor Access Initiative Grants

Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative’s 2022 Q4 Grants Fund Large-Scale Riding Area Clean Up and Essential Trail Maintenance Projects Protecting Access to Land for Motorized Recreation

Yamaha Motor Corp., USA, today announces the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative (OAI) contributed more than $500,000 in grant awards for 2022, satisfying a commitment made in honor of National Public Lands Day. The final funding cycle for 2022 in the fourth quarter provided meaningful support to a wide variety of projects – from California desert cleanup and state-wide riding trail maintenance in Washington to multiuse bridges and trail resurfacing – making public lands sustainably accessible for motorized and outdoor recreation.

“The response from the outdoor community to our call for quality projects the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative can fund is the reason we were able to fulfill our 2022 pledge. While half a million dollars will make a significant impact, we know there are more opportunities out there in need of support,” said Steve Nessl, Yamaha’s motorsports marketing manager. “In 2023, our commitment is unchanged as we continue to invite and welcome partnerships with land managers, riders, land stewards, and anyone who relies on public land for outdoor recreation. Together we will work to protect, defend, and improve access everyone can enjoy for years to come.”

The application deadline for consideration in the first funding cycle of 2023 is March 31. Visit YamahaOAI.com to learn how to apply for a grant and review the submission guidelines. There, you also will find the Yamaha OAI grant application form, as well as the informative blog, which includes recaps of typical projects for inspiration.
