Antlers by Klaus was founded by artist and whitetail enthusiast Klaus Lebrecht in northwestern Wisconsin almost 35 years ago. Klaus was a freelance artist and an aspiring taxidermist looking to hone his skills in the taxidermy trade and he turned to master taxidermist Joe Meder in Iowa for instruction. Hello fellow sportsmen and women!  This site is about everything outdoors, and me sharing my knowledge with you.  I love the outdoors, and I have a wealth of experience in outdoor activities which includes hunting, fishing, survival skills, camping, canoeing, and primitive living.  I have a passion for enjoying the outdoors around us, as well as the family aspects of the sporting life; my blog is all about this topic.  

My goal is to pass along my knowledge and thoughts to you, as well as our future generations.  My passion is to get young people interested and involved in outdoor activities, and to preserve the wild places that remain in our world.  I want our future generations  to have the opportunity to experience true wilderness experiences; the pristine Rocky Mountains untouched by man, the northern woods and lakes where a person can explore the wilderness for days by canoe, the preserved watersheds where a young hunter can shoot her first duck, the small trout stream where a boy catches his first fish.  

On a larger scale, we have to preserve the places where a hunt presents the life-and-death challenges that only true wilderness will provide, that is what adventure is all about.    This site is about developing you into the total outdoors man or woman, to be able to survive any situation, to know how to hunt and fish, to be aware of environmental issues that impact us all, and most importantly, to encourage you and everyone around you to get our next generations into the outdoors.  Check out my about page to learn more about me and why my opinion matters to you.  You can see some pictures of me experiencing the outdoors at the bottom of that page.

An OTF, out the front, is a pocket sized knife that automatically opens and retracts through the hole at the top of the handle.  By pressing the trigger forward, the knife springs out.  Pressing the trigger back will retract the knife into the handle.   Once fully deployed, the knife is securely locked in place.

We are now booking for the 2023 coho season at Becharof Lodge on the Egegik River. The 2022 season was a most memorable one, thanks to the many great people who fished with us. The number one compliment we received was how fun it was to spend time with so many special people (staff and guests) in this part of remote Alaska. The second most praise was for Goni’s incredible cooking, something which always surprises guests who arrive thinking that just because they’re fishing in remote Alaska that the quality of food will decline. It doesn’t.

The fishing was tough at times, as good as we’ve seen it at others. Much of Alaska received rain throughout most of the summer, and as a result many rivers throughout the state flowed at record high levels all summer, right through our coho fishing.

Coho fishing on the Egegik River was great with eggs, and beads did well, too. Combining a bit of cured salmon eggs with soft beads was our top producer. Jigs, be they twitched or fished beneath a float, also produced consistent bites. Later in the season the flyfishing was excellent, with coho salmon being caught on surface poppers and many other patterns. There were some high catch silver salmon days among accomplished fly anglers who were in camp!

Though the coho bite was consistent every morning, from mid-season, on, the salmon bite did slow by mid-day, on average. This was the case in rivers throughout Bristol Bay. In fact, we spoke with many guides and lodges in the region, and this was a common theme in the rivers they fished, too. Some of the lodges who have their own floatplanes claimed the Egegik River was the best, most consistent coho fishing in Bristol Bay.

Due to our remote location and the rising costs associated with fuel, bush plane services, food, shipping, and many other components associated with operating a remote salmon fishing lodge in remote Alaska, there’s a rise in pricing heading into the 2023 season.

Still, coho fishing spots are booking up quickly as the Egegik River continues to be one of Alaska’s top coho streams. So check out the 2023 dates below, see which group fits your timeline and let’s go fishing. Life’s not slowing down and prices won’t get any cheaper. The rich abundance of farmland is the perfect place for these bears to pack on the weight. With so many bears in the area we are really starting to see a lot of chocolate and cinnamon bears as well. Last but certainly not least is our amazing waterfowl hunts. With most of our set ups only 5-10 mins from the Big Spruce Lodge. We are located in some of the best Canada goose and mallard duck hunting areas around. There is nothing like a cool crisp fall morning with flock after flock of geese and ducks in the sky as you lay in the blinds waiting to "light em up boys".

Big Y Fly Co began in Maupin OR on the banks of the Deschutes River in 2004.  We began with just one fly supplier who has been with us now for 17 years.  Today we employ 12 people in our warehouse and fly shop in downtown Hood River; right next to the infamous Full Sail Ale Brewery and Pub. We ship orders and open our fly shop 10 hours a day seven days a week.

The idea for this brand came when I was camping alone at one of the many amazing singletrack trail riding areas in Colorado. It was the morning after riding with a couple of other two-stroke brethren. Strangers until we met. Brothers after fifty hard fought miles of enduro riding and sweat. Something about this morning called for a borrowed cigarette and some leftover two-day old sushi. It’s what we do when we’re out there riding. Getting dirty and loving every minute of it. Suit up for the battle and relax after you’ve tamed your soul. We’re the new cowboys.
